Is the iPhone release simple by design??

Is iPhone Intentionally simple to start with?
I was thinking about this a lot lately. There are so many things, simple things, obvious things, missing from iPhone on its release that I cant help thinking its more of a strategy then lack of foresight or users needs.
Apple and AT&T both knew that this release was going to be huge, possibly adding 1/2 million new (or changing) users to AT&T's infrastructure and immediately putting a strain on its system, support technicians, help desk, etc. Apple knew it would be handling calls from confused users, those needing help, etc etc.
So perhaps they simplified things by putting out the most basic elements possible on the iPhone. If you think about it, if they had put MMS on the iPhone, there would be a huge increase in data transmission over the Edge network of everyone sending pictures from their new iPhones. That could be a huge strain on the network. Also the more the iPhone does, the more people will be calling with questions, problems, or complaints, flooding Apple and AT&T's call centers with tons more seemingly unneessicary calls. Leaving a lot of things out on the release probably prevented tons of calls to the helpdesks so the teams can focus on the release and any problems related to it. Maybe the idea was make it simple, and then once the storm calms down, add more things out little by little until the iPhone reaches its full capabilities.
I sincerely hope this is the case! While I love my iPhone and most likely wont return it (that thought is still on the table though) it is obviously severely lacking in many of the more basic and wanted things.
I just hope we dont have to wait months for an update. A week into owning the iPhone and I have found that I am getting bored with it's current abilities. Definitely better then my blackberry was, but the Nokia 7125 I had for a while, while it didnt have the cool gui the iPhone does, was quite a bit more useful, not to mention fun, in terms of its abilities.

If there is one thing that is very obvious here, it has to be that Steve Jobs loves to introduce new functionality on-stage. It is one of his biggest passions in life, to stand on a stage and talk about a new product or new functionality. Just watch one of the videos on this website. You will see it. Anyway, this gives him tons of future opportunity to introduce a new function to the iPhone. I think the ability to choose something from the iPhones music library as a ringtone, will be one of his biggest announcments in the future, and he will surely bask in that applause he gets from it. He loves that almost as much as he loves life itself. So don't worry, our phones are headed for better days,... after all, they have the ability to receive software updates from Apple. So you know that means added functinality. Be sure to leave feedback in the appropriate section on this website, listing all of your iPhone upgrade wishes. The more they get, the better the chance it gets updated quicker.

I understand that the OP failed to do research. But then, I wasn't replying to the OP. I was replying to Chris. I have Verizon. I can talk and use data at the same time with my Droid Maxx. Therefore, the problem is not just with the network. It would be technically possible for an iPhone to do that on Verizon/Sprint if Apple had chosen to use a different chip, such as the kind other phone manufacturers have elected to use.
Of course, this is probably all irrelevant to the OP's issue. It was merely a point of clarification, especially for those people who are used to being able to use both voice and data at the same time on Verizon. When they switch to an iPhone, they are often surprized at the limitation.

Yeah got onto that but it won't load up anything readable. It just produces a little annimation of 35mm film strip and when you click on it - nothing. All you end up doing is clicking on the X in the top right hand corner of the annimation and deleting it. Really frustrating because uploading from the iPhone is simple, but I've deleted it off that and can't get it back from the Mac to the iPone either. Seem to be trapped no matter what i do.

I need to purchase a new case for my iPhone 6, i was going to purchase the black silicone case, however the reviews say the case starts peeling after a few months.

I exactly measured the weight on a kitchen scale. It weighs 17 grams. The iPhone 6 (64GB Black T-Mobile) weighs 126 grams on my scale. So it does add 13.5% weight to the iPhone. It also adds 2mm to the thickness (6.9mm to 8.9mm). But the protection is actually very good for this amount of small bulk (search youtube for the 10 feet drop test video, where almost zero damage happens to both the iPhone and the case). The case has a premium soft-touch feel in hand, much better than the cheap plastic feel of third-party case in my view. The case can be easily cleaned by a damp cloth and shows zero wear after a month use.

iPods, iPhones, and iPads aren't tied to one particular iTunes accout/Apple ID. So there are no special instructions to follow to allow you to sync it with your newer account. Simply sync it as you would your iPhone 4.

it is compatible with most iOS 6 things, the main difference is just the fact that it doesn't have 3G or 4G, which limits how much it can use Siri or Maps.
it does have panorama, and a 5 MP iSight camera. the design is different. it is a lot thinner, it has curved edges, and at no part of the side is it flat, same for the top and bottom. that is NOT the case for iPhone. also the iPod doesn't have a mic. on the front.

just remember this for iOS 6: pretty much everything that doesn't always require internet the iPod can do. if it is something liketurn by turn direction, unless you have wi-fi in car, it wont work.
if you need siri for anything outside of wifi, unless it's something on the hard drive itslef, i.e. setting up reminders, it wont work for thing such as facebook posts, looking for restaurants, etc.

If your iPhone is truly unlocked - purchased as unlocked through Apple
or through wireless provider that sells unlocked iPhones or unlocked
by a wireless provider, then the update should not mess up your iPhone.
If your iPhone was jailbroken or hacked to change wireless providers,
then the update will relock it to the original wireless provider if you are lucky
or turn it into a useless brick if unlucky.
Back up first to protect against glitches or other problems.

Pay no attention to iinami, the amount of replies to people saying their handsets must have been jailbroken everytime iTunes throws out an error is tremendous. (Clearly you don't need to have any real knowledge to get to level 3 on these forums, let's hope apple's geniuses know a lot more than some of their customers.)

So my questions was is it possible to be on the online apple store the 24th of October and just wait till the clock ticks to 0:00 and then immediatly buy is that possible? It is not the pre order I'm after it's the actual release. Not the day of release but the day before that would be the 24th of october. Kappy, I don't know where you get the idea that AT&T stores are selling unlocked phones. I've heard no such thing.
I have heard that if one purchases a no commitment AT&T iPhone 5 and plugs it in and restores it in iTunes before activating it, that it will be unlocked. I don't know that this is actually official policy on AT&T's part, but it has been documented to happen. Whether it continues or not...
I also know that Verizon is legally prohbited from selling the iPhone 5 completely locked down due to conditions imposed on them when the won a recent auction for radio spectrum.
Not to speculate on what they will do, but I for one, don't see much point in selling an unlocked version of the iPhone 5 in the U.S. There is only one GSM carrier in the U.S., AT&T. The US GSM iPhone 5 will not work on any LTE networks outside of the US, so logically, why bother?
A huge percentage of Americans never leave the country over the course of their lives... It's not like other parts of the world where one can cover multiple countries in a days drive...
Heck,many Americans never even leave the State they were born in.
