Is the iPhone still banned in America?

I am on vacation to America. Living in Houston Texas and enjoying my visit.
The only bad experience was on day one of my vacation when I got robbed by AT&T. I asked if was possible to buy a sim card for my unlocked iPhone. One that supplied data.
I was told yes and charged $50. The till receipt showed 90days credit and an internet package. The store put the sim card into my phone.
However i could not get any data or internet access. The APN screen is removed on the America AT&T network to cripple the unlocked phone OS. When I told the store this they said that my unlocked iPhone was banned in America and there would be no refund. The package I got was prepaid and to use it I need to buy a new phone from AT&T.
Basically they sold me something that they know will not work on the unlocked iPhone and offer no refund.
So I can only assume that Americans are not allowed to own iPhones. They just rent them from AT&T. Is this correct?

The manager will not give a refund. The best he can do is offer some money off another AT&T contract deal. Which I can't have anyway because I am only visiting America.
So with the exception of AT&T my trip to Texas has been great. I have also been to Toledo Bend in Louisiana. Tomorrow I am visiting Mammoth Caves National Park in Kentucky. So lets just say I am on the move a lot with my iPhone documenting the whole experience.
It appears that that unlocked iPhones really do work fine in every place but America. If I get really desperate there is always an O2 global roaming option I can switch on but it is expensive.

  • If my iPhone was stolen and i want to reactive an old phone using that same number for the time being while i waited to see if I could get my iPhone back, would the iPhone still work while i was using a re-activated old phone of mine?

If a new SIM is activated on the same account for the same number, any existing SIMs for that number are deactivated.
Why exactly would you care if the SIM in the missing device still works or not?

  • Can u buy the iphone 5S unlocked in america

Can u buy the iphone 5S unlocked in america?

Yes. Doing so with the intent of using it in a different country, however, is not wise.  The warranty is not valid outside of the U.S. and it will not work with LTE frequencies used outsided of North America.

  • I want to download an app, it keeps telling me my password is wrong, I changed it on my mac and it was accepted, but the iphone still says it's wrong

i want to download an app, it keeps telling me my password is wrong, I changed it on my mac and it was accepted, but the iphone still says it's wrong

This same thing happend to me,  you have to make a new account and you have to chose your birthday as if your under 18 or 16,  because if you dont own a credit card,  you shouldnt be over this age,  so basictly just make a new email and appleID and when you chose your birthday,  do it under 16 years of age (or your REAL birthday) and you should have an option of clicking "none" for credit card options,  but if you want to buy something,  you will have to do the credit card stuff,  or you can just buy an apple gift card at basictly any store,  So this is how i fixed my problum,  i hope it works for you,  write back your responce of how it worked out please!

  • Windows XP not recognizing the iphone still camera

I have been using successfully iphone (2G) with itunes and photoshop. For last 1 week when i updated the itunes to 8 and iphone to 2.0.2, windows does not recognize the digital still camera. Hence photoshop and picassa can't detect iphone and i can't sync photos from iphone to photoshop and vice versa.
It is working perfectly fine on other PCs. I know that there is something wrong with my windows or iphone drives but can't figure out what.
Itunes is able to detect the iphone and can sync seamlessly. Can anyone help whats going wrong.

    One thing that might help.
When the iphone is connected to the computer, click on start.
Then right click on My Computer and choose Manage.
In the computer management window, click device manager on the left hand side.
The to right, look to see if there are any items with exclimation marks or red x.
If one is the iphone or under imaging devices, try reloading the driver or delete is.
If you delete it, disconnect the iphone and reconnect.
    Hope this helps.

  • After cancelling the plan, can the iPhone still be a working iPod?

After de-activating the iPhone (cancel the plan), can it still be a working iPod?

In that case you would be better off returning the iPhone, eat the 10% restocking fee and buying either:
    1) 8GB Nano - save $290 (if you bought the 8GB iPhone)
    2) 30GB iPod - save $290 (if you bought the 8GB iPhone)

  • Comparing the iPhone 3G with my current Japanese iPhone (trying to decide)

I'm trying to decide whether or not to switch to an iPhone 3G now that it has been released here in Japan. I currently use an AU cell phone by Casio. I would have to switch to Softbank, but you can keep your old phone number now, so that's no problem.
The iPhone certainly has it's attractions. It also has it's drawbacks compared to phones here. I think it adds up differently for different people depending on which features they think are important. Here is how I have been currently thinking about it. Please tell me if I got any of the iPhone features wrong!
iPhone = how I rank the iPhone feature on a 0-10 scale
current = how I rank my current Japanese cell phone on a 0-10 scale
weight = how important I think the feature is on a 0-10 scale
    (1) Web Surfing - iPhone 10 / current 3 / weight 10
The iPhone's browser is clearly the best cell phone web browser anywhere.
    (2) Camera Still - iPhone 3 / current 5 / weight 8
My current cell phone's quality has never been pleasing, and is the same 2 megapixel resolution of the iPhone. But it does have a flash and an image stabilizer, neither of which the iPhone has.
    (3) Camera Video - iPhone 0 / current 6 / weight 8
It really is convenient to be able to shoot videos with your cell phone these days. The iPhone may be the ONLY cell phone in the world these days without that feature, which is very inexplicable. This might be the show-stopper for me. True, I usually shoot videos with my regular camera. In fact, I usually shoot still photos with my regular camera. Still, it is a very useful feature to have.
    (4) Electronic Wallet - iPhone 0 / current 10 / weight 5
It really is convenient to just wave your cell phone at the train wicket, or at the convenience store, or vending machine and not fuss with cash. But the fact of the matter is there is also a card version of the e-money which I also have, so I can do the same thing by waving my unopened wallet at the same devices. So I could live without this feature. Recharging the e-money by cell phone is convenient though.
    (5) Cut and Paste - iPhone 0 / current phone 5 / weight 3
I don't often use the feature, but it is relatively easy on my current phone to mark the begin and end of a section of text and then use copy/cut/paste. I can't believe the iPhone still doesn't have something as basic as that. It probably isn't a show stopper, but it does give me pause.
    (6) Digital TV receiver - iPhone 0 / current phone 9 / weight 1
My Japanese friend really wants a new phone with a digital TV receiver so he can watch it on the trains to and from work. On the other hand, this isn't a show-stopper for me because I very rarely use the TV feature.
    (7) Replaceable battery pack - iPhone 0 / current phone 10 / weight 2
Most Japanese seem to be very taken aback that you can't remove and change the battery pack yourself and switch to a spare when out for a long day. That sort of bothers me too, but the fact of the matter is I've never done that with any of my previous phones, so don't think I would worry about it. I am guessing there are portable rechargers available that run on batteries, right? I've used those before.
    (8) Applications - iPhone 10 / current phone 2 / weight 10
The iPhone clearly has all the other cell phones beat in terms of applications. I've always been very disappointed with the lack of interesting apps available for my Japanese cell phones. I am assuming there is a PDF viewer available?
    (9) Email - iPhone 7 / current phone 7 / weight 10
I haven't used the iPhone email app so I am just guessing. I assume you can have file attachments, right? Like send photos via email? Can you have multiple attachments in one email? iPhone email isn't "push" yet, right? You have to poll for new messages. My current phone uses push technology, like a Blackberry does, so it receives email automatically as soon as it is sent.
    (10) Keyboard - iPhone ? / current phone ? / weight 10
I still can't figure out which is easier to use. My current cell phone is easy to input in Japanese, but hard to input in English! I suspect that the iPhone is the opposite - probably easier to input in English because of the full kb, but more difficult in Japanese. Also the lack of there being buttons or tactile feedback might make it harder to user.
    (11) Display - iPhone 8 / current phone 6 / weight 10
The iPhone's display is larger and brighter. On the other hand, my current phone's display has a higher resolution.
    (12) Music features - iPhone 10 / current phone 2 / weight 7
Having a built-in iPod is very nice. My current phone has the AU music system built in but it doesn't work well with Macs. A Windows person might find it more useful.
I also read about a "yellow-ish tint" problem with the new iPhones. That's something I wouldn't want to get into. Another headache with Apple over some quality problem, like I had with my iPod nano 3G that I ended up getting a refund for. I don't think I could take that right now. Has that issue been resolved?
    Thanks!
    doug

    (3) Apple didn`t include video support because of the quality of the 2 MP camera, they are known as being the best in video and photography, so enabling video would result in a poor quality, Apple`s approach on this was all or nothing.
    (9) It supports loads of attachments such as PDF, DOC, images, that can be saved to the phone, or attached right after making them from the Camera Roll, and actually it supports push email, via the "Mobile Me" service from Apple (.Mac). This requires a anual payment, but it`s not that expensive, considering that you can use it with PC`s, Macs, and your phone.
    (10) The iPhones keyboard is the best I`ve ever used, i takes about a week to write fast, and about 2 to be a pro, and I mean really fast :))
PS: What`s your current phone ?

  • Sync ends in iTunes with certain apps, but iPhone still says syncing

[I'm using the 3.0 version of the software, haven't yet upgraded to 3.1]
The other day, while traveling, I hooked my iPhone up to my laptop computer for the first time. (I normally use my home "desktop" PC.) It did a sync which caused about 2/3 of my applications to disappear.
When I got home, I reconnected the iPhone to my main PC, and iTunes said the PC was not authorized, so I authorized it for the second time (and now it says I have authorized 4 computers when I've only authorized 3.)
When trying to sync back the applications I've had in the past to the phone, there are certain applications (including Google Earth, Finger Piano Lite, ETrade Mobile Pro, and a couple of others) which cause the sync to end part way through the installation (and the app does not show up on the phone) and cause the iPhone to no longer be recognized by the iTunes software (the iPhone icon disappears from the column) until I disconnect and reconnect the phone. When the sync ends in iTunes, the iPhone still says "Sync in Progress" even though it's not syncing.
At one point, many of my icons also got a white blank stripe across about the top 1/4 of the icons. I deleted them from the iPhone and resynced and it seemed to get rid of that problem.
When I right-click on the iPhone icon in iTunes and run diagnostics, iTunes crashes completely.
I have tried resetting the iPhone by holding down the two buttons at the same time, but the problem persists even after restarting after that reset.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • The iphone could not be restored error 23

**Hello to all I have a iPhone 3gs 3.1.3 Suddenly went Network and i Switched off the devices and turn it on again prepared But not open network and mark appears cable & iTunes And worked restor but an error message appears the iphone could not be restored 23 .**
**The iPhone still does not function with the flag whenever two devices the same problem .**
    **Please help**
    *thankss*

Error 23 is generally a hardware failure. If under warranty, make an appointment at an Apple store or contact whoever handles warranty & support where you live. If out of warranty, google third party repair shops in your area. You will not be able to restore with a hardware failure. To confirm, try restoring on a known good computer, if you get the same error message, you have a hardware failure.

  • The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)

I have a problem with updating my iPhone 5 to IOS7. Everytime I go to update the iPhone to IOS7, I get this "The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)" error. It stays stuck at "waiting for iphone" then the 4005 error pops up after like 10-15 minutes of "waiting for iphone".
Also it leaves my iPhone in the "connect to itunes" screen after the error pops up. And when I try turning the iphone on and off and restarting it, the iphone still stays stuck at the "connect to itunes" screen and I have to use software to unlock the phone so I can actually use my phone.
The screenshot of this problem is below. Someone help, my itunes is updated to the latest version as well.

I've got a similar problem only mine says unknown error (2001). During the initial installation of this months update a USB cord plugging in the iTunes icon showed up on the screen. It stayed there for about 2 minutes and then the iPhone rebooted. It repeated this cycle more times then I can count. I'm happy to say that it is now working. But non the less I've been pretty frustrated with the iPhone and Leopard sometimes.
In response to a comment that it seems that every iTunes related software update seems buggy I would have to say that I agree. I've been using Macs since 1987 and I have to say that in past 3-4 years Apple has changed a lot. It's more popular then ever before. It's products are even more stylish and innovative then ever before. But the rising demand for Macs has forced Apple to cut corners it seems. In some ways Apple products aren't what they used to be.
