Is the podcast directory automated?

I've been reading this forum and a lot of the posts are to do with podcasts not updating in the directory or not appearing at all! I got the impression the process of submitting and updating a podcast was automated but it seems to not be. Does anyone know for sure if it is computer controlled or man controlled?
If it isn't computer controlled, Judging by the amount of waiting I and other people have to endure, it seems apple have underestimated the popularity of the podcast directory.
Does anyone else agree with me here?

An update - I've been using the Podcast app quite a bit and boy it's a bit clunky compared to the old way of using iTunes. I start the app and waite for a while for it to work. Then if it's been used and I come back to it say a few hours later - that is it has been used, then I get to work, stop the podcast then after a few hours get back in the car - plug in iPhone 4 into the audio jack  - the app is frozen!
This is not a good job by the Podcast app team at Apple - it's clunky, it doesn't auto resume after calls, it freezes, it's slow and it's fiddly to use.

  • Podcast are not in the podcast directory

    Hi,
I just reformat my hard disk, I re-install Itunes, the latest version, I have subscribe and downloaded my favorite podcast.
I sync my Ipod nano every thing went fine but my podcast are not in my podcast directory on my ipod, I have to artist...
What can I do to fix that problem?
    thanks

Feedburner ha done its usual trick of ramming a lot of extraneous code into the feed in order to be compatible with other rss readers, and for the most part it is this which is causing FeedValidator to report problems. The lack of line breaks makes the feed very difficult to read, but I would think that iTunes will simply ignore the tags which aren't aimed at it: the fact that it's been accepted suggested that you don't have a problem here.
However, searching just on the category is most unlikely to throw up your podcast. There are thousands of podcasts out there, and it would be quite impossible to display one one page the entire list for any category. What you see are 'featured' podcasts, chosen by Apple as being special; please see this Tech Note:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/whatson/podcasts/specs.html#getfeatured
Note that there is no way you can influence the selection other than making your podcast really special.

  • Rss feed of the podcast directory?

    Hey all,
Does anyone know if Apple publishes RSS feeds of the iTunes Store's Podcast directory? I would love to be able to use an rss feed based on keyword search or popularity and be able to write a small application where my site visitors can find relevant podcasts from iTunes and then click to subscribe.
    Thanks!

hey there fred. i am actually wondering the same thing you are, i got my rss feed from libsyn and submitted that into iTunes and my show is also in the iTunes Directory. well our show has been going so great that we are actually making our own website which will have the capabilitles to download our show driectly from our site. but i dont want our shows to stop being updated in the iTunes directory. we are going to make our own rss feed and use that i guess. but i dont want to have my show deleted from the directory for having 2 of the exact same thing.

  • ITunes 6.02 will not load Podcast directory

Hmmmm, latest iTunes and on both my iMac and PowerBook, I cannot get iTunes to show the PodCast directory.
Anyone else experiencing this or have any suggestions?

I am having this problem as well - If I click on Podcasts from the iTMS I get the usual "Accessing Music Store message plus progress bar - this goes to about 98% across the bar and then just stops.
If I select "Podcast Directory" from my subscribed podcasts list, I get the "Accessing Music Store.." but with the "hashed" progress bar and again it just sits there.
I only noticed this yesterday - I had just installed iLife '06 so don't know if this is related or not.

  • Can't access movies and television section of podcast directory

Very simply, as of this afternoon, every time I click on the Movies and Television category of the podcast directory, I get a message telling me that this feature is not available in the UK. All other sections work as normal. Any ideas?

I get the something similar when I try to access Technology -> Computers or Technology -> Information Technology. Only difference is that I get "not currently available in the US store".
It's been like that for over a week now. ;-(

  • I don't speak German, why is the Podcast page in Deutsch????

I am using ITunes 7.0.1. When selecting Podcasts in iTunes, I am sent directly to a German language page and can see no way to switch to English.
    Thanks for any help!!
    Chris

    Christina M.,
Since you don't have an account to sign in to, clicking on the iTunes Store link in the left hand column should show you a general iTunes Store start page.
Towards the bottom of the screen there will be a Pull down menu that probably says, "Deutchsland". Should be labeled, "Mein Store", if in the Germany store. A few others stores with Germanic languages may look like German, but have the pull down labeled differently. Click on that pull down ad choose "United States".
This pull down is the very bottom option on all of the iTunes Store Home pages within iTunes.
You should then be able to access the Podcast directory in English, or create an account for the U.S. store.
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Can't access podcast directory

    Hi There,
I installed the new itunes update (6.0.2) and now i can't get into the podcast directory! is anyone else having this problem??

Working Fine now, apple must have resolved whatever issues there were with the itunes upgrade!

  • Podcast directory no longer has my listing

Anyone else have this issue? My feed was submitted and approved, and I ven called it up to view it this morning and it was found in a search, but now it's not there anymore. Anyone have any ideas why? should I resubmit the feed address?

I've had the same problem with a dropped Podcast two times. I did manage to get in touch with the Apple Store via email. The email is [email protected].
Here is the only helpful email I received from them: Thank you for your interest in podcasting. We're sorry iTunes returned an error when you tried to publish a podcast to the iTunes Music Store.
You might have received this error if the podcast was already submitted via the Publish a Podcast page in iTunes. The iTunes team reviews each podcast submission. Depending on demand, it may take a week or two before the podcast is published.
There are several less-common reasons iTunes might have displayed this error:
    * The podcast's RSS feed was not available.
    * The podcast's RSS feed timed out.
    * The podcast's RSS feed could not be validated.
If you are the podcaster, make sure your podcast is available on the Internet. Your podcast's RSS feed also should conform to the iTunes extended podcast RSS specification. You may download the iTunes extended podcast RSS specification in PDF format from the following link:
    http://phobos.apple.com/static/iTunesRSS.html.
I did check with my server (audioblog.com) and the RSS feed is correct. So it is iTunes that is the source of the problem. On iTunes I can go to the menu and go to Advanced>Subscribe to Podcast and enter my RSS, and my entire Podcast will show up in my Podcast library and the audios will download. But when I go to the Podcast Directory to do a search on my Podcast, neither my name nor my show name will appear. So I went back to the server (audioblog), totally deleted the podcast, renamed it, created a new RSS feed and now await iTunes to approve it and post it. Then I will see if it shows up in the directory. If not, I don't know where else to go but to email my subscribers and send them the RSS feed and tell them to subscribe through the Advanced>Subscribe to Podcast feature on iTunes. I'm a total Apple/Mac nut and I have been through quite a lot with them through the years and they have always come through (well not always). I expect an update on iTunes soon to fix this nagging issue.
    Hope this helps.
    Louis

  • Podcast imports into iTunes & Podcast Directory

I have a 30GB iPod and have no trouble with podcasts from the iTunes Store (7.0.2.16). With podcasts downloaded from places other than the iTunes Store is where the problem comes in. I can get these MP3 podcasts into the music directory in iTunes, and the music directory on the iPod, without a problem but I have been totally unable to get these non-iTunes Store podcasts into the Podcast directory on either iTunes or the iPod.
Can I import non-iTunes Store podcasts into the Podcast directory in iTunes and the iPod? I am set to manually manage music and podcasts with selective update for the podcasts subscriptions.

    Hope this helps!
Well I have had this problem once myself and i figured out that you have to convert the podcast to a certain form compatible with your ipod/itunes. All you have to do is right click on it and choose convert selection to ipod. Sometimes it will manually do it though when you click and drag your podcast onto your library. I have had podcast before though that will absoulutly not convert therefore you can not use them on your ipod. Like I said I hope this helps, good luck!

  • Directed to website instead of Podcast Directory

Hi, When I click on the arrow beside some podcast titles I'm taken to the podcast directory and can then download any recent episodes that I might want. But in most cases a new window opens and I'm directed to the website of the podcast provider.
I've recently updated to a new version of itunes, and the previous version always directed to the podcast directory which is much more convenient. Anybody have any ideas how to solve this?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • XML feed loads in iTunes, but rejected by iTunes Podcast Directory

I'd like my podcast to appear in iTunes.
    http://ans08.midphase.com/~socisin6/socialworkpodcast.xml
When I manually subscribe using Advanced: Subscribe to Podcast, the podcast loads. However, when I submit to the Podcast Directory I get the following error: "error parsing feed: Invalid XML.
Feed validator identified some problems, but none that were different than other xml feeds I've seen for podcasts listed on iTunes.
This is my first podcast. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I realized my XML file was incorrect: I had the wrong day of the week associated with a date in the <lastBuildDate> tag. I corrected it.

  • ITunes Crashes accessing Podcast directory

For the past 3-5 months in 10.4.x and 10.5.x accessing the podcast directory of my iTunes library results in an instant crash of iTunes. This really ***** as I was hoping the 10.5 upgrade would fix things. I was a podcast junkie and I've since gone cold turkey as a result of these technical problems.
Is there a fix to this? I'm currently using iTunes 7.6.2. I've even attempted to reinstall 7.6.2 with no luck.

  • Podcast removed from the iTunes directory as a result of technical problem

I received an email from iTunes informing me that my feed:
    http://www.mevio.com/feeds/d4emixtape.xml
Had been removed from the iTunes directory because the feed had some sort of technical issue. I've checked the feed a couple of ways including using Feed Validator and all seems to be working ok.
I tried to resubmit the feed, but I get an 'It appears the feed had already been submitted' error.
There is a duplicate feed that was being used from a different server (Odeo), but I stopped using that about four years ago. I have requested that feed to be removed.
I've contacted Apple Support to get the current feed back on iTunes, but that hasn't been any help.
Any advice on what I can do to get the my podcast feed back in iTunes?

Your feed appears to be technically OK. When the iTunes removes a podcast it usually says 'technical reasons', whatever the actual reason may be. One possible reason for removal is suspected copyright violations, and it's possible (I'm not saying this actually is the case) that they are concerned that your 'mixes' contain copyright material for which you don't have either the written permission of the copyright owner or a podcast licence from a recognized authority. As I say, I just mention that as a possibility to consider.
As to resubmitting: the title of your feed is 'D4E Hip Hop Mixtape' and there is already a podcast of that name showing in the Store (though it's looking for the feed which you have removed). Even if that one gets removed, you are still likely to get the same error - there appears to be a minor bug in the Store software which claims that a podcasts has already been submitted even if either the podcast hasn't been accepted previously or if one of the same name has been removed.
To get round this you need to make a small change in the title - a single character would probably do - and resubmit. You can always change the title back once it's been accepted.
As to removing the old podcast, did you follow the procedure outlined here?
