Is there a neat way (or hardware solution) that will allow me to stream a DVD onto my new Retina display Macbook Pro?

am going to update my Macbook Pro for the new Retina model but the one thing I will miss is a DVD drive. I've ordered a Superdrive BUT my dilema is this...
Often my wife will be watching some dull reality show (Strictly Come Dancing or X Factor) and I would usually get my laptop, headphones and grab a DVD Box set (The Wire, Sopranos etc).
I could sit and watch happily (and eisily go back to wherever point I last stopped watching)
With the new Macbook I'm looking for the same easy solution. I don't want to sit with the superdrive on my lap, guess I can spend some time with Handbrake and rip all the DVD's to my new laptop (or a wireless storage device like this:http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/portable-hard-drives/wireless/seagat e-satellite/
But this would be timeconsuming and I'm not sure if the ease of playback would be as good.
What I would really like is a DVD player that can just stream my DVD wirelessly to the laptop and I can control with the DVD player controls.
Does such a thing exist or can somebody suggest any alternative ideas?
Just to add, the main reason I chose this is that I often travel and the lighter, thinner design really appealed to me. I had considered a Mac Air in the past but it didn't have enough capacity or screen size for me when it was originally released.
I guess I will still have to transfer some DVD's anyway to be able to watch whilst travelling.

there is one actually use application called air playit, this is application has two parts the first one is the server part to install on any machine its available on Mac and windows you can configure it to stream from anything on the machine, the second part is the client you can install it on any IOS or android, the good thing about this application is you can use local network connection or Internet connection even you are outside still you can stream it

  • Is there a MagSafe 2 compatible portable external power source for the retina display MacBook Pro?

I’m using a retina display MacBook Pro with the MagSafe 2 connection.   I would like to have a portable external power source to extend the use of my laptop on long field trips where I am away from power sources. Swapping batteries is not an option for this generation of MacBook Pros.  There seem to be many options for PC’s and even iPhones/iPads/iPods but the MagSafe 2 connection seems to be the issue.  I saw one link that suggested buying an Apple MagSafe 2 power adapter and performing surgery on the power cord (using components provided by the vendor) so that the adapter would run on their back up battery.  I was hoping for a more esthetically pleasing solution. Any suggestions?  Does this product exist and I just missed it? Clearly, if a MagSafe(1) compatible external battery existed I could adapt that using the MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter.

    Sparon,
I wouldn’t recommend using an underpowered AC adapter with your MacBook Pro. It sounds as though the best solution would be to get a different laptop bag with a sufficiently large side pocket.

Is there an adaptor or interface that will allow me to connect a thunderbolt device to my late 2011 Mac Pro Firewire 800 port?

    lllaass is correct.
To use ThunderBolt devices, a computer must have left the factory with a ThunderBolt port.
There are no known work-arounds, and there are not likely to be any because Intel controls the chips and is not interested in anything less than the full [including Video features] implementation.

  • Is there a video editing app for ipad that will allow the adjustment of the speed of a clip?

I'm trying to speed up/slow down clips in a project on iPad, which, I have found, iMovie does not allow you to do. Is there another app that will allow me to do so?

You can't do anything in the background of iOS. Apps are still one at a time (with a few exceptions like Music), and suspend when the app is closed. It's also against the App Store guidelines to sell apps that would allow such actions.
Though, maybe you could get your Voice Memos saved to MP3's, which can play in the background of other apps.

  • Is there an app i can down load that will allow me to transfer my pictures in iTunes to an Android smartphone?

Is there an app that I can download that will allow me to transfer pictures from iTunes to my Android smartphone?

Well if your talking about common format jpeg, jpg, png and so forth then all you have to do is export it out of iTunes to the desktop or a folder and import it into the software that manages the Android phone.
It's the file format that's universal and can be transfered to any computer or device that can accept the format.
Like mpg's are universal format for music.

  • Is there an easy way to find apps that will run on an ipod touch gen 2 with iOS 4.2.1?

My grandson's ipod touch gen 4 was stolen so I picked up a used ipod touch gen 2 only to find out I can't upgrade beyond 4.2.1 iOS, so I am trying to find apps that run on that iOS. Enter an unfriendly App Store for those of us not used to using it!
Can someone please tell me an easy way to find apps for him to run on this older system?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Is there an app or an email server that will allow me to attach Office documents to emails I send from my iPad? Thanks. me to

I thought I could do it through Gmail, but I can't attach files to an email when using my iPad2. Thanks.

QuickOffice can definitely send emails with its documents as attachments. (Or at least QuickOffice Connect can, which is the version I was testing on) just tap the email icon at the bottom of the page and select the documents you want to send.
In case this helps anyone: note that QuickOffice is one of the few apps we know of that cannot send emails to email groups created using our "MailShot" app. To use it with MailShot you need to use a workaround- send a mail to yourself and then forward it to your MailShot group from Mail, the attachments will all be preserved.

  • Are there any specific codecs or import libraries that will make Premiere 6 use more file types?

Are there any specific codecs or import libraries that will allow Premiere 6 to import more file types?  I'm using Premiere 6 on Windows 7.
It seems that the only kind of file that can be imported in to this version of Premiere are certain types of AVI files... even some types of AVIs will import but then will not appear when placed in the timeline... no MPGs, MP4s, WMVs, or anything else will import at all.
Virtually every file that I need to bring in to Premiere 6 has to be converted to AVI with the H.264 codec first.
    Any help would be helpful.

    Hi Bill and John,
    Thanks for your replies.
My inquiry isn't as much to do with the AVIs that won't import as it is to do with figuring out the way that I can make MPGs, MP4s, MOVs and WMVs import in to Premiere 6.
The AVIs that do import were converted or created using the H.264 codec.  I do know a little about codecs, but I don't hold the PhD in codecs that is apparently required to completely understand them.
Below is the chart from the Premiere Elements 4 page at this link... http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402540.html
So, if I understand correctly, Bill is saying the Premeire Elements 4 is actually newer than Premiere 6 and that the Pr Elements apps will actually import more movie file formats than the regular versions of Premiere and Premiere Pro?... for someone trying to learn about these apps, one must admit that this seems to be reverse logic... this would be saying that Adobe gave the cheaper "consumer" versions of Premiere the ability to work with 3 or 4 more movie file formats than the more expensive "pro-sumer" version of Premiere.

The built-in web browser instruction manual in Premiere 6 shows this statement on the "Importing Clips" page, as shown in my screenshot linked above...
"File format support is provided by plug-in software  modules. Over time, additional or updated file formats may be available  from Adobe or other manufacturers, such as QuickTime."
This indicates that additional file format support can be added to Premiere 6 by "plug-in software modules", and that "over time, additional or updated file formats" were predicted to become available that would be supported by the file format manufacturers, such as Adobe themselves and other manufacturers such as QuickTime.
Since that was written ten years ago or more, there has certainly been the chance for these additional "plug-in software modules" to be developed "over time"... so I'm asking, "Where are they available?"
What I'm saying is, I will do my homework to earn at least my Bachelor's degree in codecs, but more than an education in codecs, I need to find these mysterious, "plug-in software modules" for Premiere 6 that Adobe wrote about and referred to over ten years ago.
Thanks for any clues as to where to locate these "plug-in software modules".

  • Is there a plug-in yet that will allow pdf forms to be opened in the browser and submitted?

Is there a plug-in yet for Firefox that will allow pdf forms to be opened in the browser (instead of downloaded), and then submitted to an e-mail address using the submit button on the form? I finally installed the plug-in that allows a pdf to open in Firefox and not downloaded, but the Submit button doesn't work.

    Help. Same issue.

  • Is there a plug-in that will allow me to view CR2 (raw) files from a Cannon 5D Mark III to PSE 9 ?

is there a plug-in that will allow me to view CR2 (raw) files from a Cannon 5D Mark III to PSE 9 ?

The 5D.3 was first supported in ACR 6.7 which you need PSE 10 to use, so there is no plug-in for PSE9 that will allow opening the files from a camera newer than when PSE9 became obsolete.
Besides getting PSE12, assuming it is supported on your current computer—check the specs, you can use the free DNG Converter available from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
to convert your CR2 files to DNG files that are compatible with older versions of ACR.  Be sure to set your DNGC compatibility settings to a version old enough to be openable with PSE 10’s ACR.
As far as whether the OP is serious, it doesn’t hurt to ask the question before spending money on something you didn’t need.

  • HT4108 Does anyone know if there is a blue tooth keyboard for an ipad air that will allow for a slideshow presentation to pair with a monitor.

Looking for a blue tooth keyboard that is compatible with the iPad air that has slideshow functionality for pairing with a monitor.  I thought Zagg had one but they do not with the new operating system.

Is there a text box generator in InDesign that will allow you to create a text box with XXX amount of words in it? I work for a newspaper pagination desk and we always get asked to keep a hole for a story that may have 500 words in it. If there is such a thing this would be greatly helpful for people in my position to use this and implement it in the whole office so that we could plug in a space and keep a rough idea as to how much space we need.

Use Type > Fill with Placeholder Text to generate lots of text. Select some text, then use Window > Info to display the number of selected words. Expand or contract the selection by holding Shift, or Shift+Cmd/Ctrl, and pressing arrow keys. When you have the number of words you want, copy, press Escape, click an empty spot on a page, then paste; the copied text appears in is own text frame. Select the frame and use Object > Fitting > Fit Frame to Content contain all the text within the frame.
Search Google for terms like "InDesign placeholder text" without quotes for info on changing the actual placeholder text, and also info on a text generator.

My MacBook Pro is running very hot after lion install.  Are there any hardware changes that will help? What can I do to get it back to normal?

I get the impression that most of the users on older hardware experiences similar temperature issues on Lion for a long time now. Awaiting for confirmation from the original poster.
In the meantime I'm just cautious with regards to pushing the machine to such extreme temps, since something tells me such behaviour which includes monitor flickering and the likes is nothing but abnormal for any type of use...
Any clues if 10.7.5 does anything on this? If not I'm afraid i see myself going back to SL for good...

Need to know your Mac model. If it's a PowerPC, the max OS is Leopard 10.5.x. If it's an Intel procesor, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (for $29) & later to Lion.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I am financially impaired (nice way of saying "poor"), and cannot afford to purchase any more upgrades for my system or another version of InDesign.
I am sure there must be settings that will allow me to install the program, possibly with limited functionality due to this issue.  I am disabled and cannot work outside of my home. I was hoping to make a small income freelancing with this package, and InDesign is a crucial part of the package.
