Is there a SQL and PL/SQL build tool?

The 'C' programmers have 'make', 'Java' programmers have 'ant' and 'maven'. Does anyone know of a similar tool for SQL, a build tool that will maintain dependencies and do automatic builds (to the database)?

People have built Ant and Maven tasks for Oracle SQL and Pl/SQL. For instance, [url http://code.google.com/p/plsqlmaven/]plsqlmaven.

That would be database specific and normally (perhaps always) only something that the database vendor can provide.

If you go to service.sap.com/crm and then go through the documents available for CRM 4.0 or 5.0 you should be able to find the extension and development guide and also the ISA build tool documentation.

Using local android-sdk and android-sdk-platform-tools with phonegap

Hello,
I've installed android-sdk, android-sdk-platform-tools and android-sdk-build-tools packages from AUR and phonegap with npm command line utility of nodejs. When I try to build android app using the command:
$ phonegap run android
phonegap fails to detect locally installed android SDK environment and uses remote one:
[phonegap] detecting Android SDK environment...
[phonegap] using the remote environment
I tried adding paths /opt/android-sdk/tools/, /opt/android-sdk/platform-tools/ and /opt/android-sdk/build-tools to $PATH variable but still, no luck. How can I make phonegap use the local android SDK environment?

hi, you can try run `phonegap local run android`
if you see "ant: command not found" error, please install 'apache-ant'

There is an unclosed comment block in the SQL statement. Ensure that there are balanced "/*" and "*/" comment markers in the SQL statement.

I get this error - when I try a Multi-line comment entry - by using the /* and */

Even though I am entering both the /* and the */.
I tried it many way - in the same line, in different lines etc..
like
/* Select xxx from xxx */
or
Select xxx from xxx
or
/* Select xx from xx
Please help anyone..! ;=(

But When I do a Help/About I see that it is
the SSMSE's Help About screen says "SQL Server 2005"
However I downloaded and installed SQL Server 2014 last night and was entering queries..
Most Select Queries work fine..
the -- comment line works fine..then I stumbled on the /* - */ does not work.

Well, you have two different version of SQL Server installed on your machine. Please connect again from SSMS to the SQL Server 2014.

SSDT, SSDT-BI, and SQL Server Tooling in VS 2013

I am upgrading from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2014, and I'm a little confused as to the upgrade path for SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio (BIDS). I'd thought that SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) was replacing BIDS in subsequent versions of SQL
Server i.e., 2012 and 2014. However, when I go to install SQL Server 2014, I don't see an option for SSDT. Do I need to download and install SSDT seperately in the form of SSDT 2012, SQL Server Tooling in VS 2013, SSDT-BI for 2013?

In addition to Piotr’s post, you can install SSDT for 2014 via the following method:
In Visual Studio 2013, go to the Tools menu, select “Extensions and Updates”. On the left of the window there is a section named “Updates”, and under that is “Product Updates”, then look for the Microsoft SQL Server Update for database tooling and click update.

SSDT-BI is a distinct toolset from SSDT or the SQL Server database tooling in Visual Studio, it includes BI project authoring tools and project templates for SSIS/SSAS/SSRS. However, SSDT does not include the BI templates, it is used for building databases.

Is ther any SQL developer version for SunOS 5.10 (Unix). If it is available, please tell me from where it can be downloaded and how it can be installed?

You can use any of the downloads except the Mac or Linux ones.
We separated out the Windows downloads because that's the largest audience we have. So there are 2: one is the full install, and one which allows users to point SQL Developer to an existing, installed JDK. This means that you don't end up with duplicate or even multiple JDKs installed.You can download either of these. If you don't have the JDK installed, you might as well install the full build. The other thing about the full install is that it includes an early JDK release and many users prefer to use the latest JDK.
The entry for the "multiple platforms" is exactly the same build and code as the Windows without JDK. Both of these require you to download and install or already have a JDK installed.
I try to make this page clearer for each release. It seems I'm not there yet!
We certify on Windows, Linux and the Mac. There is a page detailing certification specifics see the home page of SQL Developer. We do not certify SunOS, but Unix platforms are supported. This means that you can use SQL Developer, but any issues you run into must be tested against a certified platform before we'll track the bugs.

Inconvenient on drag a table into SQL Builder

When I click on a non selected table to drag it into SQL Builder SQL Developer open it to edit the table instead of dragging it. Is there any way of configure SQL Developer not to act that way ?

As I recall, SQL Developer 3.0 and higher let you drag and drop into the Query Builder tab without opening the object browser. If you just drag and drop into a Worksheet, then very old versions may paste in the table's DDL, but in any modern version the DnD behavior should be controlled by
Tools > Preferences > Database > Drag and Drop
Just experiment with that. Remember to click, hold down the mouse button, then drag into the Worksheet.

Oracle Personal Edition and SQL dev. tool

I installed Oracle 10g Personal Edition on my laptop and want to use SQL Creator (SQL developer's tool/program - http://www.snefru.com/index.jsp) with it.
I'm trying to setup my SQL developers tool to connect to my local Oracle database and there is a connection wizard for the SQL program which prompts me:
1.) "Select a JDBC driver..."
2.) "Enter Host name for the server that the database is located on...."
3.) "Enter Port number that the database is listening on...."
4.) "Unique SID of the database instance..."
How can I find out 1.) - 4.) for my specific, local database?

When you run SQL*Plus, what is the version number displayed:

You woudl download the driver that matches with that release.
if you did the database install, chances are you already have the jdbc driver installed.
Do you have a directry ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib ?
Do you have files like classes*.jar in that directory?
if you do you already have the jdbc driver files.

Advanced SQL builder not working

Hi all, I'm a Network administrator put in charge of web
development at our small company, and i am working on what should
be a fairly simple application for management of a MSSQL database
using ASP/Jscript.
Using Dreamweaver CS3, i am for some reason unable to
successfully build a search function for the database using the
built in tools.
I have a page with 2 form entries, a list box with Column
names (SearchBy), and a text field for the search terms(SearchFor).
I've tired several different incarnations using my limited
knowledge of asp, and none will work right.
I know the connection is solid and working. If i use static
terms in the sql it brings everything up fine.
Here is a copy of the Dreamweaver generated code that was
built using the Advanced Recordset builder tool. Can anyone help
point out what's going wrong?

Are you passing the name of the column to be searched into
the query? I
am sorry to say, this feature was removed due to security
issues with
this method.

A drag and drop flowchart IS a tool, as in a complete program. Perhaps you can find an open source flowchart tool written in Java somewhere from which you can 'borrow' some internals, but I'd not get your hopes up. You are probably in for some programming to get something that matches your specific needs.
Another option is to turn it around - is it perhaps possible to build your own application on top of an existing platform, like Eclipse or Netbeans platform? Both of those have at least the frameworks/tools to make it easy to create a flowchart module, but you have a good chance that one exists already.

hi, i want to view some executed queries(2 months before) in oracle SQL Developer. if i press F8 it shows execution history for only last 30 days. is there any option(query) or something to view execution history for specific date ? i want to see some queries, which is executed before 2 months in my oracle SQL developer tool. Pls help me out.

Variable value not showing in sql developer tool

HI,
I am using sql developer tool. when i take mouse in variable name at debugging its not showing variable value and instead showing variable name data type and owner. but in past i have used sql developer tool where when i take mouse on variable at debugging mode it shows the varable value. please tell me is there any issue in sql develper tool currently i am using.

Sorry - but I doubt if you will get much help for that ANCIENT version of Sql Developer.
My best suggestion is to download the current version and see if you still have the problem. There have been HUNDREDS of bug fixes since that version you are using.

Take note that the current version REQUIRES a much higher JDK version than what you may be using. And do NOT try to install the new version on top of the old one.
Install the new version into a totally new folder. You will be ask if you want to import your settings from your current version.

SQL Developer tool question

Hi Folks
I am using SQL Developer tool. I have a procedure with compilation errors so i can see that procedure with red X mark in SQL Developer tool.
When am clicking on the procedure it is going to the editor there i can see "code"."grants","dependencies","references","details","profiles".
But i can't able to see "Errors" tab in the editor. And main thing is i didnt see any red lines in the editor for the invalid procedure
And when i recompiled that procedure it got recompiled successfully and that red x mark is vanished.
Here my question is the "Errors" tab is only appears when the procedure/function/package has errors and surprisingly i didnt see any red lines in the editor for invalid procedure (may be my proc has no errors).

maybe your procedure has been invalidated by some DDL, e.g. a new column has been added to a table that is referenced in your procedure. The status will be INVALID until you recompile it or until you call the procedure, then it will be recompiled automatically.
