is there a swap out ac plug for australia?

There's the IdleTimeout parameter in the reports server's conf file. I believe that is defaulted at 15 minutes though, not 5 minutes.

  • Thinkpad Edge S430 - Swapping out optical drive for HDD?

    Hi There
I just ordered myself an S430 with a 128gb SSD HDD included. I didn't see an option to replace the optical drive with a secondary HDD (e.g. a 500gb) so have the optical drive in as standard. Now, I would have rather changed this out for a secondary HDD or for a Blu-Ray drive, thinking I could do this myself once bought...Looking at other posts it looks like you can swap out the optical drive for a Blu-Ray drive, although I would preferably get a secondary drive over the Blu-Ray, but I'm hesitant over a few things:
Is this possible to do myself (swapping out for either secondary HDD or blu-ray drive) without voiding the warranty? (I got it with 2 year warranty)
Is it actually possible to do at all? (swapping out for a secondary HDD)
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunately, I have found no hard drives that are compatible for your optical bay.  I do believe the reason you can change out your optical drive is to change to a blue-ray or CD, or DVD, maybe a player or burner. But like I said, I have found no hard drive that can fit in your optical drive.  You may be able to find what I could not but I have been looking all over the web.
I know how you feel, my computer at home can not have any hard drives in the optical bay as well.
    Best regards,
    Alex

  • Swapping out a WRT54G for a new WRT54G

    Swapping out
I have purchased a new WRT54G Router (V6.0) to replace an older WRT54G Router(V2.1) due to suspected intermediate problems.
Can I just physically replace the old one with the new one and then manually re-enter my current configuration changes, like ssid, mac addresses to permit, password, etc?  Or do I need to install using the CD?

If it were me I would just slap it in and then using your (with a direct connect to one of your switch ports) browser http to the IP 198.168.1.1. Login using the defaults and set it up that way. You should get a snapshot of your old linksys setting  before you pull it off. I installed my first linksys that way and it wasn't till ver 5 that I encountered the CD. For your basic install this should be just fine. I am sure there is a lot of good stuff on the CD, but just get it up and running that is the way I would go.
Oh by the way...Wanna buy a used linksys router? Lookie here in my trunk...gotta a couple extra hubs and switches...
    It's Labor Day...just kidding...hope you had a nice weekend.

  • Swap out 1.25DP for 1.42DP?

    Hello everyone,
Happy Columbus day holiday to everyone(for Monday). I have presently a Power Mac G4 MDD 1.25DP machine with 2GB memory. Is it possible to swap out the 1.25DP for the 1.42DP, and if so, what kind of speed/performance am I really going to see? First off, is it worth it? 2ndly, will I notice anything at all with the DP 1.42 in place of the 1.25DP? Bear in mind, I am not looking to go to another machine, as I just got this MDD machine and love it very much compared to the G4 Digital Audio machine I have.
I did some research and it appears that the dual processor 1.42 has the same bus speed as the 1.25DP MDD machine. Therefore, is it possible to swap out the 1.25DP and insert the 1.42DP? I also noticed that the bootROM is different on the 1.42DP machine: 4.6.0f2 versus 4.4.8f2 on my 1.25DP machine.
bottom line: from a DP 1.25, is it really worth it to go with the 1.42DP? What percentage of performance gain will I see, and if at all, can it be done? Money is not a problem for me, as I saw this processor and heatsink for less than 250 on ebay a few nights ago.
    Thanks,
    Nadav

    Hi Carl,
Thanks for the reply. 13.6% doesn't really seem a whole lot in performance/speed gain, does it? Anyway, I did call a technician from colorado and he told me about 10-15 percent is all I would notice, and that for each 100mhz up to 500mhz, the speed and performance is really really miniscule, so as of right now I am now concentrating my efforts on getting just the copper heat sink as it has a cooling pump which should aid in lowering my processors down a bit further. Although, as I type this temp monitor reports the cpus running at 92.8 degrees fahrenheit. Now, another thing thats bothering me is the internet speed. My roommate has comcast high speed wireless - doesn't seem to be high speed though it is. Problem: I periodically lose connection or it slows down and gets sluggish.
I am using an airport extreme PCI card(802.11g). Its a Belkin FD57000 card which is similar in speed and strength to the airport extreme card by apple.
Is there a way to boost the wireless performance of a PCI wireless card, or better yet, boosting the performance of wireless internet at all? That seems to be the only bottleneck I am experiencing. His computer which is in the other room not too far from me is a PC running windows 2000 professional and he has a white wireless router.
periodically, I have to turn it off and turn it back on just to get the thing to speed up, but is the problem associated with my card or my mac? I don't think it is, but I was wondering if there is a way to boost speed performance of wireless service. Personally, I prefer wired since really its better and more secure + it NEVER EVER(at least when I had it at one time) dropped service at all.
    Thanks Carl,
    Nadav

  • I have a macbook pro 15" can i swap out the screen for an anti glare one?

I have a mac book pro 15"  I need to use it outside.  Is it possible to purchase a new anti glare screen or is there an overlay that works?  I bought an anti-glare screen cover that is one you stick on and it didn't work at all.

Anything is doable, but I think it'd cost more to swap the screen out than it would to find a machine that has one and sell yours. If I remember right, the resolution is higher on the non-glare, so your video circuit would have to support that as well.
I have the non -glare version and love it, but it's still not a good outdoors machine.

  • W530 swap out the DVD for an SSD

I bought a new W530 in late 2012 with a DVD player, a 500 GB mechanical hard drive, a 16 GB SSD cache, and Windows 7. It's been great, but now I'm thinking about replacing the DVD player with a 1 TB SSD. I want the new SSD to be the boot drive (of course) and I want to retain the 500 GB mechanical HD for additional storage. This would be similar to the way my desktop computer is configured (except my destop computer does not have a 16 GB SSD cache). What do I need to do? Does the new SSD go where the existing mechanical HD is located? Does the mechanical HD then need to go where the DVD player is? Do I need to remove or disable the 16 GB SSD cache? What do I need in addition to the new SSD? Additional rails or any other hardware? Also, I would like to clone the existing HD data onto the new SSD. What software do you recommend for that? Thank you.

    Hello.
The best thing to do is to put the old mechanical drive in the HD UltraBay caddy, which then can be hotswapped out for the DVD drive should you require it. If you get a Samsung Evo drive, then the Samsung Migration Software is quite adequate to clone the drives if they are MBR (legacy) partitioned, but otherwise, both Clonezilla (linux based) and Macrium are other very useful cloning programs, both free. Clonezilla has the advantage of being bootable both from USB / CD, and it is very fast. Macrium you have to run within Windows.
When you got your SSD and the HD Ultrabay caddy, just drop the SSD into the caddy (or a USB docking station if you got one), and insert it into the machine, thus leaving your original platter drive in its place as 1st boot device, clone all the drive over to the SSD, all partitions and resize the OS partition to fill up the drive if your SSD is larger. (You can also create a new partition for the remaining space, it's all a matter of preference). Once done cloning your drive, turn off the machine, replace the HD with the SSD and boot your computer up. Only when you got it booting as it should, shoud you insert the old platter drive into the Ultrabay and format it, deleting all partitions so the old bootloader doesn't stay active.
    Clonezilla
    Macrium Reflect Free
You can safely remove your 16GB mSATA cache card, you won't need it when running your OS from SSD. There are rails on your platter drive now, but an SSD doesn't require them, so just move the rails with the platter drive over to the HD UltraBay caddy and you should be all set.
    Happy upgrading!

  • Swapping out optical drive for SSD

Early 2011, 15" Macbook Pro with Mavericks 9.1
So basically, I want to replace my optical drive with an SSD. Seen a few discussions on it, know basically how it works, am aware of the warranty voiding issue, and also aware of how people at apple who made my computer are 12034725801x smarter than me and I shouldn't do it. I'm gonna do it anyway.
What are the best brands for the superdrive slot to hold the second drive, and should I leave the HDD in the primary slot or move it to the secondary?
The first one is the main question. I've read that only the primary can boot, and if that's true, then it would have to be the SSD for sure. Confirmation would be nice.

Get the OWC DataDoubler bracket for your model. The SSD should replace the HDD. The HDD goes where the optical drive is located. What you need to do:
How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
      1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of
the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive
is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the
Partition tab in the DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from
the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended
(Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to
GUID  then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and
wait until the process has completed.
      4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the
drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main
          window.
      5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the
Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to
          return to the Erase window.
      6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several
hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
      1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.
If you wish to use your Home folder on the HDD instead of on the SSD:
How to use an SSD with your HDD
If you are going to use an SSD as a boot drive together with your existing HDD as the "data" drive, here's what you can do.
After installing the SSD you will need to partition and format the SSD using Disk Utility. Then, install OS X on the SSD. After OS X has been installed boot from the SSD. Use Startup Disk preferences to set the SSD as the startup volume.
Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and authenticate. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your user account listing in the sidebar and select Advanced Options from the context menu.
You will see a field labeled "Home dir:" At the right end you will see a Change button. Click on it. In the file dialog locate the Home folder now located on the HDD (HDD/Users/account_name/.) Select the folder, click on Open button. Restart the computer as directed.
When the computer boots up it will now be using the Home folder located on the HDD.
Another more technical method involving the Terminal and aliases is discussed in depth here: Using OS X with an SSD plus HDD setup - Matt Gemmell. This is my preferred approach because I can select which of the Home's folders I want on the HDD and which I don't want. For example, I like to keep the Documents and Library folders on the SSD because I access their content frequently.
Be sure you retain the fully bootable system on your HDD in case you ever need it.

Will apple swap out my ipod for free bc I was putting it in my wristlet and it slipped out of my hand and fell on cement. It still works and there is no prices out Iliad the screen. It's only a week old.

As lllaass said, you'll have to go to the Apple Store and ask. Apple is not obligated to replace your iPod, since user-caused damage is not covered by warranty, but in some cases in the past a technician has made exceptions. Such exceptions, though, are reportedly becoming much harder to grant. But you can ask.

  • If I have a bootable copy of a disk running 10.4.11, is there any reason I can't swap out the internal drive of a newly purchased Mac Pro and have it boot from the tiger disk? Thanks very much for any insight.

or is there some sort of built in protection against this.

In addition, if you are talking about an older machine like a G4 or earlier with PATA drives, the Mac Pro uses SATA drives, so this is not a simple swap out, but if there's room an adapter like this might work in that situation:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%20Technology/TPASA/
so that you could use the drive in the new computer to copy the data files, not for booting the OS.
If you need to transfer files from one machine to the other, you could do this over a network, or use FW target drive mode, or get a universal bare drive cable adapter.

How long will my iPod service take?
If you choose to use the Online Service Assistant, or service via Apple Technical Support: If your iPod is not personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately one week from the time you send your iPod to Apple. If your iPod is personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately ten calendar days from the time you send your iPod to Apple.
Attention iPod shuffle customers: Service for iPod shuffle is performed by means of an express replacement program, via Online Service Assistant or Apple Technical Support. For more details, please review the Express Replacement Service tab on the left.

If it is caused by a hardware problem there is nothing you can do to prevent it from recurring unless it was caused by abuse like from dropping the iPod.
Otherwise make sure you ask apple how they fixed. it.

I have a feeling my rechargeable battery pack was secretly swapped out by another user (whose battery had died) - left for vacation working computer, returned from vacation battery not charging.  Is there any way to check (serial number, etc.) what battery came with the purchased computer?  Any help would be appreciated.

No, but you could check to see if the battery installed has about the same amount of charge cycles if you were paying attention to that number.

I know of no plug-ins for FCP-X that will do this.  Surely there's one out there.

  • Swapped out AE for TC and now can't connect to Internet!

    Hello all.
I just swapped out an Airport Express base station (the square one, not the old spaceship-shaped one) for a shiny new 1-TB Time Capsule. I figured that since 500 GB external hard drive for Time Machine backups is running out of space, so why not just get a TC so I don't have to worry about (a) hard drive space or (b) plugging in external drives again.
I unplugged the AE and plugged in the TC. Everything else is the same: The TC is plugged into a Verizon DSL modem, and we have two MacBooks in our house. I configured the TC using the Airport Utility. Everything appears to be OK, except that I can't connect to the Internet any more.
I have tried some of the tricks that have worked for other people on this discussion board -- namely, unplugging the DSL modem and the TC and restarting them. They don't appear to work. When I put the old AE back, everything works like a charm.
Has anyone run into this problem before? I'd be grateful for advice and ideas. I don't want to use the TC as a secondary wireless network device, like a range extender. It's a pricey piece of equipment and it should do what it says on the box. I'm pretty sure that the fault lies somewhere between the DSL modem and the TC, but I'm not clever enough with these things to figure it out on my own.

Same problem....3 calls to tech support and almost another one yesterday UNTIL I discovered that re-setting the TC (with the paperclip tool!) worked. The Airport Network, via TC, recognizes my Network and TC pops up into the airport Utility. i kept "losing TC in the Airport Utility page....it only showed AE/Base Station...not waht I wanted.
I unplugged the Express (previous model, one that was prior to "X" capability, ie b/g) and left it unplugged.....this must be an issue) My ONE TO ONE instructors have offered to have a look at it, the AE,at my next appointment.
I, too, have a DSL modem (Qwest) that I have unplugged without success (connections) Unplugging the units seems to work for some things but not this particular problem.
    Hope this helps.
