Is there a way to import a indd CS4 file with its Data Fields names and properties into CC?

I have to convert numerous files from CS4 to CC. The CS4 files are using external data from a CSV file. When I open the file in CS4 I can enable the preview and see the data from the CSV file. But when I save the file as indd or idml and try to open it in InDesignCC then I can't see the data as preview. I can see the Data fields (text).I think it's because it doesn't recognize the data fields from the CS4 file. If I delete a data field and remap it I will be able to see the preview for the field I just mapped. the other fields remain the unchanged, like they were just text.
Any help with this topic will be very appreciated. I have about 70 data fields per document and about 100 documents to go through.
Update: The symbol for a data field, ex: «fullname_2» change size when I delete and remap it. Explanation: When I open the CS4 file in IndesignCC I can't view a preview of the Data field(s) (almost positive because it's plain text). The data fields show like this «fullname_2». But when I delete that and drag a field from the data field list it shows like this <<fullname_2>>. So definitely, CC is not reading the data fields from InDesign CS4.
P.S.: The fields above («fullname_2» and <<fullname_2>>  are copy and paste from Indesign CC.

I'm attaching this image so this forum can notice the difference on the Data fields from CS4 and the ones added on CC

  • Is there a way to import metadata to wav files in my library?

Is there a way to import metadata to wav files in my library?
I have about 1,500 .wav files that are presently in my iTunes library, but as most of you are aware .wav files have their limitations with regard to how iTunes translates their specific track information. I haven't been archiving using .wav in sometime, I've since switched to another more iTunes friendly format. But, I have these 1,500 files left and I'm desperately trying to find a faster way to log the info.
I've built a data table with all of the track information I want to import. Does anyone know of a good macro, or script that will allow me to import this data so I don't have to manually open each individual .wav file and input this manually?
    Any help would be appreciated!
Note: I've searched the forums, and I've looked at similar posts, but nothing to solve this specific little quandary. If I've somehow overlooked a post, please forgive my repeat post.

I can probably help with this.
I have a script called TagFromFilename that can apply fill in the details that can be extracted from the file path if the .wavs are stored in the layout <Album Artist>\<Album>\[D-]## <Name>[ - <Artist>].<Ext> where D is an optional leading disc number and <Artist> is an optional trailing artist (otherwise both artist and album artist are set to the grandparent folder). You just need to make sure that before you add the tracks to iTunes, that it won't rename the files. You can do this by turning off the Keep option if the files are inside the media folder, or the copy option if the tracks are located outside.
Alternatively I have another script called ExportImport which allows for almost any editable to be adjusted, as long as you can export the internal track IDs of each track and then marry them up with the data you want to import. See Batch Add Comments Tag Solution? for a previous example of how if might be done. I'll gladly go into more detail if you tell me what fields you already have and what identifying information is present.

  • Is there a way to import/export tab delimited files to a table in Pages 2?

It seems like Pages is starting to get funtionality that might help wean me off of Excel. In this vein, is it possible to import or export tab delimited files to a table in Pages 2?

I had some success in Pages 1, but I've only tried a couple of times so far in Pages 2 without success. The trick was to make sure the table is the exact number of columns wide. It's very "klunky" but I've ended up converting the tab-delimited text to a table in AppleWorks, saving the AppleWorks file with the table as a "floating" object (fixed objects don't translate) & opening the file in Pages. It's quicker & easier for most of what I do to just drag & drop in Pages.

  • Is there any way to open an iMovie HD file with iMovie 4?

Subject said it all. My daughter did her iMovie homework on our home computer. When she took the iMovie HD file to school it wouldn't open with their older version of iMovie.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    lw

    Hi Lanny
install iM04 on your home computer :-/ (you can run both apps on one machine, but I recommend to install a second account for your daughter…)
because iM05 has a totally different system to handle the clips ("non-distructive editing") plus a different file-system (.pkg instead of files+folders) there's no way from 5>>4
(except, you export the project as a .dv and import that into the other app… but you loose the whole projects info as clips, transitions etc,)
no, 5+5, 4+4, or 4+5… you can import iM4 projects into iM5… once, single shot only
besides: great, your kids do such projects!! over here in Germany, we still use chalk and blackboards…

  • Is there a way to automatically populate a text box with its text's colour values (RGB, CMYK, etc)?

I'm trying to work a little faster and since Kuler now syncs into CC, I'd like to know if there is a way to colour text from a text box and have this text change automatically depending on the values of the swatch I selected.
It should work more or less like metadata, or variable text: you can customise what value will appear
I'm almost 100% sure the answer is no, but it can't hurt to ask.

The short answer is No. But I see that Ray has given you an option.

  • Any way to import Entourage XML **cache** files from its database to Mail?

I had a really bad meltdown and all I could retrieve from my address books (yes, I backed up, no it failed too) were Entourage XML cache files of my addresses and emails. They exist as "pointers" to originally stored info, not the info itself, so I cannot simply import them as tab delimited, or text, because of all the tags (or without a helluva lot of work editing) - however all the info is there. This looks to me like XML right? So is there someway to simply convert into another program - an in between convertor? editor? - that could get them to tabbed format. Here's what an address looks like to give a sense what I'm dealing with. Thanks for any suggestions.

I've done a few test runs and the video quality seems pretty decent considering the quality of some of the original VHS recordings, but a "rough around the edges" look is noticeable when the source tape wasn't the best quality to begin with.
If converting the .asf file compromises quality further then I'll avoid that. The device seems at least like a great starting point for doing something with all of those old tapes. I figure I can at least experiment in the meantime and save up to get a more Mac friendly device that does the more direct conversion. At the very least I can get my old video projects from VHS onto DVD and work with them later on in iMovie.
I'm just a little irked that every now and then there's hardware or an application that is made PC only, almost like the manufacturer doesn't even realize that Macs even exist. The device wasn't made by Microsoft or one of the major PC makers, so I don't get not making it so that the video files are saved as mpeg4 instead of .asf
Now that I think about it, how common are SD cards outside of digital cameras (still and video cameras both seem to use them)? I have a camera that uses an SD card and if I didn't have the video converter, I wouldn't have known about using the cards for something other than pics or camera footage, and I wouldn't have known about needing a card reader because the camera plugs into a USB for downloading pics.

  • Is there a way to configure 2 Firefox browsers, each with it's own independent and seperate privacy settings, add-ons, cookies, bookmarks, toolbars, etc.?

I love Firefox, but I have 2 distinctly different needs. I need 2 separate Firefox browsers with very different settings, consistent with very different uses:
    1. This use of Firefox will be for visiting many different websites, a wide variety of interests.
    2. I need this use of Firefox to be very limited and restricted, consistent with handling personal investments, banking, financial transactions. There will be very few websites, but with extremely secure, private, connections.

You can do that with multiple Firefox user Profiles.

is there a way to import music from my ipod to the camputer?
I have music from all over the world and i want to import all of it to my computer..

Sorry for insulting Apple. This whole thing has me frustrated. You would think that this is an easy thing...which it is after downloading the third party software and all.
I am just a bit edgy after talking to 3 customer support folks for almost 2 hours, who I could barely understand and then having them just tell me to download the files again. 3500+ songs...jumping out the window was looking more pleasant (jk). Now I have to explain to the wife why the phone is busted in-two...lol.
Anyway, I was able to get hooked up with some software and it seems to be downloading fine. I am using iPodCopy. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction and putting up with a bit of attitude. I am sure they have their reasons for not making this an easier operation.

Is there a way to import music from my windows media player, if so how?

Exploter the settings in Windows Media Player. It should tell where it is currently storing files. You can also enable the path column in WMP to see where individual tracks are stored. See also Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely.

Is there a way to import phots from just 1 album from my iPad to my PC?

Yes. Just sync that one album of photos. Its that simple. If that album is nested inside another photos album, just select that particular album in the Sync Photos From heading in the photos tab of iTunes.

Is there a way to import several tracks at once from my Boss BR8 so that they show up as separate tracks in GarageBand?

I had to google your device - looks like it's a vintage multi-track recorder that records to Zip disks. So I guess there's no digital USB or Firewire multichannel output and no way to transfer your tracks digitally - or is there? If not, your only option is to record the device's audio track by track into GB.

  • Is there a way to import Raw files into LR catalog ..including..any edits performed in an external raw file editor such as Capture One?

Is there a way to import Raw files into LR catalog ..including..any edits performed in an external raw file editor such as Capture One?
I can import the Raw file successfully but cannot see any edits that were applied in Capture One. Im assuming no but just checking.

Your assumption is correct, Capture One, Lightroom and other third party raw processors have their own proprietary processes and profiles for rendering the raw data.
They do not make permanent changes to the raw data and store the changes to an .xmp file or to a catalog file like Lightroom.

  • Is there a way to import tracks without using the mouse in Logic Pro?

    From the user manual:
You can import existing audio recordings by simply dragging them from the Media area, shown at the right of the Arrange window.
My question is: is there a way to do this without dragging it with a mouse? I'd like to use a shortcut to open a browse folder and select a file. The reason for this is that I am nearly blind and I can't use my mouse for dragging because I can't see it.
    Thanks in advance.

Can't see the mouse pointer.. even if you increase it's size using the Accessibilites features in OS X's System preferences...?

How can i import my e-mail contacts? i don´t want to type one at a time.  Is there a way to import all at once?

Sync your old address book with the one on the iPod.  You may have to import them into an intermediate address book like Google contacts since that can be done by importing a file you should be able to export for your address book.  Without know your old address book that is all I can say.
