Is there a way to keep all the data on my phone while syncing to a new laptop? I lost all the data on my old one.

Recently my old mac laptop lost all it's data. Is it possible for me to sync my iphone to a new computer without losing everything on my phone?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

    Backup the old iPad.
Restore the backup to the new one.

Copy the music from Nano to computer by:

Then just sync to the new device

  • If you lose your phone and you get a replacement . does you imei number change? or do they keep it the same as your old one?

    Hi
Every handset has a unique series of identifiers, one of which is the IMEI number, so if you exchanged the handset (for example if it was not working & you were still under warranty) your new handset would have a new IMEI number.
What Apple do though is if you formally exchange your handset (again, under warranty etc) then they record the change on their system, but also give you a sticker which is meant to attach to the original box. That way, if you come to sell the handset, you have a proper record of why the IMEI number on the handset is different from the IMEI number on the box.

  • Is there a way to keep all my e-mails on my mac and just show the latest on iCloud?

Reached my 5 GB limit and unfortunately have already deleted plenty of e-mails on "iCloud" and didn't realize I was also deleting them off my Mac.
So is there a way to only show the last month e-mails on iCloud mail but keep them all on my computer?
I don't want to be setting up a lot of archives either...anyhow thanks for any info or links.

You're welcome.  I don't think that kind of rule is possible.  With IMAP accounts your email client is always reading from the server, just like iCloud.com.  Anything done on any device signed into your account (your Mac or iOS device), or on iCloud.com, updates the server and the change is then replicated everywhere.  There just isn't a way to have different email on one than you have on all the others.  Archiving allows you to store a copy that is only on your Mac so you can delete it from the iCloud.com (or any of your other devices) and the copy on your Mac will still be there.  That's really what archiving was designed to do; allow you to permanently save email.

  • Is there any way to keep all firefox files and settings in a specified place?

I recently put a version of firefox on a flash drive for when using public computers so I can always have the custom settings and addons available. But the inherent problem is that firefox puts files in the documents and settings folder on the computer, and sometimes the computer will not allow any files to be put in the directory and firefox will not run there. Is there any way to confine all the files in the same place short of putting the whole operating system on there?

You can use the portable Firefox version that comes with its own profile on the flash drive.

  • Is there a way to "delete all" iMessages in OSx instead of one at a time?

Is there a way to "delete all" iMessages in OS 10 (Yosemite) instead of one at a time? Now the only way seems to select each one, wait for the little "X" to pop up, select that, hit return to confirm delete, then do it again, and again, and again...

    Hi,
You can highlight a chat by the list in the left of the main window and then use the File Menu > Delete conversation
Using the x only dismisses the chat from view.
Individual iMessages can be deleted one at a time by clicking on a Bubble but not the text (you will see bubble and text change in colour slightly) and then the Backspace key.
It is not possible to Clear in any way all the chats/conversation in the left hand list.

  • Is there any way to play all files in a directory by one url?

    Hi all,
I am testing fms this days, I have put all my files(such as 1.mp3,2.mp3...n.mp3) in my directory.
I can play single file fine with url like this:
    rtmp://localhost/mp3/mp3:x/2
but i want to know is there any way to play all files in my direcotry?
for example, user click the play button, the player(smp) automatic plays all files in the directory, link windows media server.
Should I use playlist? Or there is another better way?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
FMS do not directly take a directory to play files, the file names have to be fetched some way (through script if needed) to make a playlist and then the play command needs to be repeated as many times.
    Thank you !

  • Is there a way to keep all the music on my ipod when using a new computer

i want to keep all my music but when i go to sync my ipod to my new computer itunes says it will erase all my music. I dont want to lose 600 songs

    Try this way:
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Is there any way to keep streaming the audio portion of a video podcast when I leave the Podcast app?

If I leave the Podcast app while playing an audio podcast, I can still hear the audio. However, if I leave a video podcast to do something else like answer emails, the audio portion doesn't keep playing. This means that if I have a video podcast going, I can't do anything else with my iPad while it's playing. I multitask all the time while playing my podcasts and then come back to the video if it sounds like there is something interesting to see. This one glitch unfortunately makes the Podcast app unusable for me. I'll keep using the Downcast app for a while longer because of this but if Apple fixes this problem, I'll be back since the rest of the app looks great.

Thanks Kiwi. It doesn't make sense to me though, as that would seem to be only a simple change in the operating system, not a hardware 'necessity'.

  • Is there a way to keep Bookmark Order from changing as part of sync?

Since I added Aurora on my tablet and my phone, and set up sync, apparently those bookmarks toolbar are in a different order than my ones on my desktop. Every time I start my desktop versions, the toolbars are in some random order (the most visited all the way to the right, list order changed). Now I generally put my items in order of use, and not in alphabetical. Is there anyway that I make it so that my sync with my mobile devices will not adjust the order of my bookmark sync?

Sorry, this is apparently a bug in Firefox Aurora for Android. I'll make sure the developers know about it and hopefully it will be fixed soon.

  • Is there a way to bypass all inserts on a track at once?

When recording with a ton of inserts, the latency is in the vicinity of about .5 seconds - so is there a way to bypass all inserts on a channel at one?
So far, I have to open each one and hit "bypass" but I do it so much, since I need to hear it after the inserts, it ends up taking a lot of time.
I also tried to save the channel setting, reset the channel, then re-insert the channel, but then all automation is lost....

Not as far as I know, but there are two things that might help.
    1) You don't need to open a plug-in to bypass it - just option-click on its insert slot.
    2) Check out low latency mode. (prefs -> audio -> general) which will bypass plug-ins which exceed your latency preference. Click it off when you're done.

  • My husband and I both have iPads and somehow when they were setup the both we're setup using the same email I'd address. When I go to delete and rename one iPad it says all info and pictures will be erased from my iPad. Is there a way to keep the info iPa

You can go to Settings/iCloud and delete the account, then create a new iCloud account.  You can still use the same account for the app store though.
