Is there a way to keep files out of the iCloud?

Is there a way to keep files out of the iCloud?

When you save them just make sure you save them to your Mac and not iCloud. For those that already exist, you can move them from iCloud by dragging and dropping them to somewhere else on your Mac. To see all the files in iCloud choose file > open in either pages or numbers.

Is there a way to keep unread email at the top of the list?  I do not delet email after it's read so I end up with many 'read' email between the un-read email.  Is there a way to cluster the un-read email at the top of the list?
    Thank you,
    Patrick

Just make a smart mailbox (unread mail) and leave it in the sidebar.

  • Is there a way to upload files directly to the cloud from bridge cc?

Is there a way to upload files directly to the cloud from bridge cc? I use bridge to organize my files. It would be a lot easier if I didn't have to drag and drop files into the cc folder, I was hoping that there might be an easier way.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Assuming you have finished with your old backup.....
You can see what your iCloud storage is used for and delete any unwanted content at settings > iCloud > backup & storage > manage......

  • Are there Apple translated (i18n) resource files ("out-of-the-box") for Objective C?  In the SDK?

    Hello, experts:
From previous experience, I know that both Adobe and Oracle provide some "out-of-the-box" translations for their respective UI language.  I'm new to Apple development and Objective C and looking to determine if any such localization support is provided by Apple for Objective C.  Hint:  Thinking it might be either included in the SDK or downloadable but I could not find any such information.  Does Apple provide any translated resources?
Thank you in advance for your help.

To follow up on Tom's advice, if you go directly to the downloads directory:
    https://developer.apple.com/internationalization/downloads/
There are resource files meant to be used by the old AppleGlot that provide a lot of Apple's translations.

  • Is there a way to force audio out through the Thunderbolt port?

I am trying to connect a 15" MacBook Pro to an InFocus 3916 using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
I know that the computer, adapters, and cables I am using support audio over HDMI.
I have tested 4 separate adapters, 2 cables, and 2 computers, all of them work when hooked up to a Samsung HD TV.
I know the Projector supports audio over HDMI, because I plugged a Apple TV into the projector using the same cable, and it worked fine.
When I am using the Samsung HD TV: System Preferences->Sound->Output shows "Samsung" in the choices of outputs.
When I try using any of the three Infocus Projectors, it only shows the internal audio.
I have tried resetting the PRAM, and SMC. I have tried plugging in an audio cable to my computer to force a refresh of the Sound Preference Pane... I have tried turning on and off the projector.
At this point I am trying to find a way to force Mac OS X to recognize the Projector as an audio output... Or at least to force the computer to think there is something there, so that it will push sound out the thunderbolt port.

    2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

endasil, Thanks for the reply. I'm currenlty running the program from within the NetBeans IDE. It is the output displayed by in NetBeans "output" that I'm looking at.
--- MikeI don't use Netbeans, but I would guess that it too pipes Standard Out and Standard Error to the same console. You didn't address my comment. Are you printing to System.err as well? This happens implicitly if you use Exception.printStackTrace(), for example.

  • HT4489 Is there a way to import my contacts to the icloud from my pc-based Outlook Contacts?

If you deleted them and they are not in the trash can, and you did not back them up before you deleted them they are gone.

  • When transferring data from an old hard drive to a new one, is there a way to keep alias files and folders in tact?

My mac and I rely HEAVILY on the use of alias files and folders. The simple version of my question is: When transferring data from an old hard drive to a new one, is there a way to keep alias files and folders in tact?  These are not symlinks or symbolic links, they're all alias files and folders.
Is there any software out there that might help me with a solution?  Are there any tricks or tips you can give me to try?

Use either Setup Assistant at first start, or Migration Assistant on subsequent occasions and all will be transferred intact. Given your wording I presume you are Unix savvy and will appreciate the problems that duplicate userids would cause, so of you use MA for the migration, make sure the target Mac has no userid equal to that on the source and you will be fine.
SA does not have these issues since it runs before any user account is created, so it can simply copy over everything. But MA runs after the fact and only solves the issue partially by changing the UID in the user directory, leading to permission problems.

  • Is there a way to keep an animation playing for a mouseout event when you start a new one?

I have some buttons that on mouseover they animate scaling up and on mouseout they scale back down. This is working great except the scenario when a user mouse's over one button then immediately mouse's out to the next button the animation on the first button abruptly stops and the animation starts on the current button. Is there a way to keep the animation playing for the first button AND have the animation play work for the second button?
I have uploaded a quick demo to illustrate what I mean. Also I've uploaded the project file if anyone can find a solution. Thanks!
    Dropbox - edgeAnimateButtonSample.zip

You need to create two symbols for these two buttons, so that both can play simultaneously.
    I have created a sample for you @ https://www.dropbox.com/s/e59agt7mr8r785l/newedgeAnimateButtonSample.rar?dl=0

CCC can  also custom schedule and save the changes between  cloned states for backup just like TimeMachine does or choose the strict mirrored clone option or even choose highly custom options in what gets saved to the clone and how.
Yes, it can, but since CCC and other cloning apps always compare everything on the Mac to everything on the backup, it takes far longer, and much more CPU, to figure out what needs to be backed-up, than Time Machine (which uses the File System Event Store, a log of changes that OSX keeps on each drive).  That means it's rarely practical to run a clone more than once a day, as there's a noticeable performance impact; but TM's quick backups are barely noticeable.
As an example, the TM backups on my small system rarely take more than a minute, and I rarely notice them unless I happen to see the icon spinning.  But I have my CCC clone updated early each morning (while I'm still snoozing), because it takes 10-15 minutes and slows performance considerably.
So it has the best of both uses now, and the clone is bootable like using the original drive, which TimeMachine lacks as it's only a backup system.
Absolutely.  I always recommend Time Machine plus a clone (minimum).
Also clones can be directly accessed, like any other normal drive, by any computer of any operating system that can read the HFS+ format of the Mac, unlike TimeMachine which only works with a Mac. This is beneficial as one can choose to use a Win or Linux PC with their Mac files in times of crisses, to transfer them etc.
That's a two-edged sword, as they say.  Time Machine backups are somewhat more secure because only Macs can read them.   But again, if you have both TM and a frequently-updated clone, you have the advantages of each.
Don't make me write a TimeMachine vs clones smackdown

  • Is there a way to transfer files from a mac-book to another computer?

I need to get files off of my damaged Macbook and I'm not sure how to do it. Is there a way to transfer files from my macbook to another computer? The damage is to the screen of my macbook and it is severe- you can only see the top left of screen, the rest is cracked/blacked out. Is there anything I can do?

If the MacBook has a FireWire port, hook it and the other computer up with a FireWire cable, start up the MacBook with the T key held down, and copy the files off.

  • Is there a way to keep my Mac Pro On the network without sleeping???

i'll try to explain this the best way I can. I often wish to access my Mac Pro over the network either for file sharing, or for use with Apple Remote Desktop. The problem is after about 20-30 minutes, the Mac Pro sleeps and disappears from the network. Is there a way to keep it on the network without turnig off sleep mode? I really don't want the hard drives working 24/7 if possible....
    Thanks in advance!
    JPT
P.S. I'm sure it doesn't matter, but just in case..I'm using the new Apple Airport Extreme base station.

In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, check the 'Wake for Ethernet network administrator access' checkbox under the Options tab, and then use an application such as this one to send it the signal.
