Is there a way to keep my Mac Pro On the network without sleeping???

i'll try to explain this the best way I can. I often wish to access my Mac Pro over the network either for file sharing, or for use with Apple Remote Desktop. The problem is after about 20-30 minutes, the Mac Pro sleeps and disappears from the network. Is there a way to keep it on the network without turnig off sleep mode? I really don't want the hard drives working 24/7 if possible....
Thanks in advance!
JPT
P.S. I'm sure it doesn't matter, but just in case..I'm using the new Apple Airport Extreme base station.

In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, check the 'Wake for Ethernet network administrator access' checkbox under the Options tab, and then use an application such as this one to send it the signal.

  • Is there a way that I can control iTunes with the iPhone without any internet connections?

First let me say that I am ready to throw this POS in the lake.  Is there a way that I can control iTunes with my iPhone without any internet connections?  On my houseboat I have a wifi router and want to connect my phone to my computer to control my music which plays from my computer through my stereo.  I can easily do it with my laptop without having to jump through any internet APPLE BS , but I dont want to have my laptop out on the deck. I just want to use the phone as a remote control.
Remote wont do it because it keeps saying Im not connected to the internet, even though is is connected to my computer.  Same problem with JumiAmp.

It should have an option to manage iTunes library without network connection, like Bluetooth or connect directly to the computer without a router or wi-fi, i live outsite of the city and i dont have the ability to control my iTunes librry from the iphone

  • Is there a way to download/view PDF files on the iPad without using another computer?

I just recently purchased the new iPad. I have also downloaded iBooks and a PDF reader. Is there any way to view and/or download PDF files from my iPad, without using an outside computer? Please help!

One way is to get the GoodReader app. It has a built in web browser that allows you to web surf and download pdfs into GoodReader. You can read them in the GoodReader app or open them in other apps that can read pdfs.

  • Is there any way to buy a MacBook Pro in the USA, but with a European plug?

I'm going to get a MacBook Pro from the USA, but I live in Belgium, so I wondered if you could get a plug for Belgium straight from the US, or if you needed an adapter.

Apple retail stores will take cash.  But, I would say it is very uncommon, in my experience, in their stores.  The sales personal are all set up to deal with credit or debit cards remotely (ie. there are no "checkout" lines, it is all done wirelessly), so dealing with cash is not the normal mode of transaction.
Not many shoppers routinely wander around malls with several thousands of dollars in cash in their pockets (even most "cash" only folks would likely use a debit card, not actual cash)!  Plus, since many people get special compensation with their credit cards (not talking points and such, but my VISA card gives me double the manufacturers warranty, as well theft and accidental damage insurance coverage for the first 90 days), even those of us who never carry over a balance still prefer to use the credit card and get the perks (I especially like the insurance, as I have to at least get my expensive item home safely before I can use it).

  • Waking up a Mac Pro through the network?

I am using my macpro to share files to a macbook pro. after a period of inactivity, the macpro goes to sleep and I am no longer able to access it from my macbook pro.
Is there a way to wake up the mac pro without having to physically touch it?
    Thanks.

If it is connected with an ethernet cable, then you can wake it with some sort of wakeOnLAN utility--try searching MacUpdate or VersionTracker. You must tell it to wake on network activity in the energy saver preferences. If it is connected wirelessly, I don't believe there is a way to do it other than setting the Energy Saver prefs to not allow sleep.

  • Trying to print to Color Laserjet CP2025n from OS X Mavericks on a Mac Pro over the network...

Basically, the configuration and drive status all seem OK. But when I try to print something from Adobe Reader, nothing happens after I click print other than the dialog dissappearing. There are no indications of error either. And when I bring up the printer queue, it is completely empty, as if the document was not even sent to it.
I am seeing HP Color Laserjet CP2025n (F4F285) in the Printer selection, as well as in the System Preferences. And from System Preferences,  it shows up as "Idle, last used" with a green dot. I have attached full System Diagnostics, Bluetooth Diagnostics (although, I believe this is network'd over the LAN), and the System Report of my Mac Pro. You can see these @

The other week it printed fine, but it I think I recall seeing two options in the Printer selection box. Now it only shows one, but again, the drivers indicate that everything is alright. I can even view the amount of ink remaining?

    Hi @jahburnit
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community, as your HP Printer is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.
Click here to view the Printing and Digital Imaging. When the page opens you will see the option to 'Log in' or 'Register Now' on the right. The commercial forums are separate from the consumer boards, thus you will need to register if you don't already have a commercial account.
You may find the HP Color LaserJet CP2025 Printer series support page helpful while you wait for somebody in the commercial Forum to respond to your inquiry.
    Best of luck.

  • My new iMac is seen as my old Mac Pro on the network because I used Migration Assistant. How do I change its name to iMac?

I used Migration Assistant about 4 months ago to move everything across to my new iMac. Since then instead of being recognised as an iMac it's seen on the network and other places as my Mac Pro.
How do I change its name to iMac?
    Cheers,
    David
    Mac OS X 10.6.8

Hello David. Open System Preferences > Sharing. At the top you will see Computer Name and the old Mac Pro name. Highlight this and change to the preferred name.
Sometimes you also need to use the Edit button under the name. But if you change the name in the first view and then press the Edit button, it should show the new name you just set.

  • Is there a way to keep 2 mac and an iPhone in sync?

AS long as I have owned a Mac (about 20 years) I have had issues getting my multiple machines to be in sync. Now that I have a desktop a laptop and an iPhone, the issue has reached critical mass.
I know all about iSync and have used it since first introduced, but the problem I keep running up against is this:
No matter how I set things up it seems that I am unable to freely create calendar and contact events on each of my three devices without one over writing another at some point? The VERY common scenario is that I like to create calendar events on my iPhone, but when I sync, they get wiped out.
I believe I have all my setting correct and hope that there is something I can learn to figure out what I have been doing wrong all these years.
Thanks for any and all support.
    Henry

Unfortunately, the operating system used on the iPhone (and iPad) will not run the AirPort Utility application.
If you have the Express configured to operate in Bridge Mode to  "create a wireless network", you should not have to make any changes. I've traveled for years with an Express and have never had to change the configuration.
If it's an emergency, you may be able to download AirPort Utility on a computer down in the hotel lobby and configure the Express that way. Since you will not be able to configure the Express using wireless, connect an Ethernet cable from the computer to the Express to establish a connection that way for the setup.

  • Is there a way to keep apps from running in the background?

I just updated to an Iphone 6, with the latest version of IOS.  It's a great product, but for me there is one annoyance.  There are times when my memory gets low.  I find out that it's the apps that are running in the background.  I personally don't use this.  All it does is hog memory.  Then, to close the apps, you have to close each one individually.  I forgot how many apps I have open, I'm of the mindset that when I close the app, that it's "really" closed, not still running in the background.  It would be nice if there was a way to disable this function.  It doesn't seem to serve a purpose for me in the way I use the Iphone.  I just "cleaned up my list of "behind the scenes apps" and I had about 20.  It gets frustrating to have to go to each one to close it.  Any comments or suggestions?

    Some things that might help:
    1. Only the most recently used apps actually occupy memory (used to be the most recent 4, but may have changed in the latest iPhones). After 4 (or so), IOS writes them out of active memory, as it does for even the latest 4 if there's no activity for a long time. So the business of closing all the open apps, apart from the most recent ones doesn't make a difference. Tis article has a good explanation:
    http://www.speirs.org/blog/2012/1/2/misconceptions-about-ios-multitasking.html
    2. There are settings about background app activity that might help:
    - Settings, General, Background App Refresh controls which apps can update their data in the background
    - Settings, Notifications controls which apps can tell you things, which they have to wake up to do.
    - Settings, Privacy, Location Services controls which apps monitor your location - another activity that uses resources
    Hope some of that helps

  • Is there a way to run my Mac Pro & Macbook Pro on one 30" apple display?

I have an apple 30" Cinema display that, unfortunately, does not have an input for 2 computers. Is there a KVM Switch or something that will easily let me use my monitor on my laptop and desktop and use the full resolution of the screen?

  • Is there a way to keep my child from changing the passcode I set up on his iPhone4? If not, how can I gain access to his phone if he refuses to tell me the passcode?

He has an iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1.2. When setting up restrictions on his phone, there is no option to disable changing the passcode. He is very deceitful and has changed the passcode on it before, which resulted in me having to do a factory restore. I want to be able to see what he's looking at and doing on it.

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

  • Is there a way to keep an app downloaded to the computer but take it off my iPhone?

I'm just looking to get more space on my iPhone. And I don't necessarily want to delete apps I paid for completely. Can anyone direct me how to do that?

In addition to Julian's good advice, on iPhone to remove an App without using iTunes, just hold down a finger on an iPhone screen App, when the icons jiggle about, tap the X of the App you want to remove from the iPhone, and remove it.

  • When uploading my photos from my iPhone to iPhoto on my mac, is there a way to keep them in the albums I already have them in on my phone?

when uploading my photos from my iPhone to iPhoto on my mac, is there a way to keep them in the albums I already have them in on my phone?

No.  All imports go into a new Event.  How many new events are created is determined by what you set in iPhoto's General preference pane in regards to how Events are autosplit during import:

  • My daughter has an iPod touch using my apple ID, I just purchased an iPhone with the same ID. Is there a way to keep my stuff seperate from her ipod but still share the iTunes account?

My daughter has an iPod touch using my apple ID, I just purchased an iPhone with the same ID. Is there a way to keep my stuff seperate from her ipod but still share the iTunes account? I was looking through the photo section on my iPhone and found pics my daughter has taken from her iPod. I do not want my pics, emails, etc to show up on her iPod. Is there a way to stop this from happening or do I have to create a different Apple ID for her to use instead?

If you have iOS 8 on all devices then:
If under 13 years create a new ID for her by:
Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids - Apple Support
The use family sharing to share apps
    http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
If underage and not i)S on all devices then you have to create an ID for here under your name and supervise it use:
Create a NEW account using these instructions so yo do not have to use a credit card.
Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
