Is there a way to rebuild the database(s) in ARD without re-installing?

On my intel iMac (10.4.7) my lists will all go offline or "--" all at once... a restart of the app sometimes solves this for a while but eventually, I need to completely delete all of ARD and re-install to restore functionality. Id there a way to rebuild or replace the database(s) aARD uses for this stuff without a complete re-install (which, is not a trivial process)

the app is not crashing with logs. It will become non-responsive frequently while scanning or while refreshing my all computer list. I originally, suspected the not so great DNS and st00pid number of subnets I have to scan to work but I have ARD 3 on my Xserve and the same install has been running issue free for months, on the same network.
I have removed/re-installed ARD a few times on this box (and a dual G5 tower) with the same issue recurring... I just cannot figure out the trigger that makes it all go pear shaped.

I have set up the location of the drive in Preferences/Advanced, but it has no effect. What happened to your metadata? Are you sure the metadata is gone?
In theory, file carving could be attempted on the data LUNs, but you would need a tool that understands how Xsan lays out data across LUNs in a stripe group and hope your fragmentation isn't too bad. I doubt such a tool exists, but if one does it almost certainly is not publicly available. You should probably contact a data recovery service with experience recovering data from Xsan. Do that before you do anything else if this data is really important.

I have Finally figured out how to do this. The problem
is not overriding connection behavior in the application
module, but rather overriding behavior in the Default
Application Pool.
Create a class that inherits from ApplicationPoolImpl
and over ride this function
public void initialize(String name,

Hashtable env)
The DataURL is contained in both the Connect String, and
the Env Hashtable. Update them at this point to your new
DataURL, and the application will open the database
connection to the alternate location.
Now the only problem is getting your application to use
your connection pool, instead of the default, this is
easily done by changing the configuration of the
Application Module. You left click on the Application
Module, choose configuration, then click edit, then find
the property label Custom Application Pool
Implementation class replace it content with the
correct import path to your Pool, then click OK to save
the changes, and your are done, the application module
should be using your pool, instead of the default pool.
This is useful code when you have a separate database
for development, QA, Staging, and Production.

I wanted to preview the changes in a browser, but when I clicked on the Preview button (or clicked on preview in browser), I received a notification that it was checking for an Internet connection and the preview page never completed. Thanks for getting back to me! When our cable modem went down, we were still connected to Airport Base Station, and perhaps it appeared to Muse that we did have an Internet connection. In any case, we have now received a new cable modem and our network is working again. As you suggested, I disconnected from the network and tried preview in Muse again, and now it seems to be working just fine. Perhaps it was just the circumstances of our network problem this morning. Good to know I can use the Muse Preview function off-line!

Is There A Way To Normalize The Volume Of My Library Without "Sound Check"?

Is there a way to put the volume of my entire library at say, +1.0 dB? It's annoying to have music that's at -5.7 and then listen to something that's at +2.0 and constantly having to adjust the volume. I have Sound Check enabled on my iPod but it really doesn't do much at all. Does anyone know if I can basically highlight everything or something and normalize the volume of my entire library so that it's at a specific dB level? The Volume Adjustment doesn't allow for specific figures and would require me to do it track by track which at 23,000+ tracks would take me an obscene amount of time to do. Thanks

You are correct, many people have noticed over the years that Sound Check does not work as advertised.
A more effective approach is to treat the files with a 3rd party volume normalization program. Although I have not personally used it, many users on this Forum have reported good results from an inexpensive program called iVolume.

Is there a way to rebuild the ITunes Library XML file from my IPod?

After several promptings, I finally decided to install ITunes 7.4.3.1. Like a fool, I did not backup my entire library prior to doing this upgrade. Nothing is going to go wrong now mate, is it? Everything seemed to proceed just fine with the upgrade. I noticed that ITunes updated the XML Library in the process. Where the problems occured was after the upgrade, I was in the middle of listening to the latest "NPR Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" Podcast (I have some 3,000 downloaded podcasts in over 85GB worth of space) when ITunes crashed. When I brought ITunes back up, it had seemed to have reverted to an earlier backup ITunes Library XML file that I had made months ago.
I still have all of the .mp3, .m4a, .mp4 and .m4v files stored in my ITunes Music folder. Somehow when I brought ITunes back up, it had lost all of the music I had dowloaded from the ITunes store even though the files were still out on disk. It thought there were only 395 podcasts despite the 3,000 plus files out there.
Clearly, something went horribly wrong and I don't want to spend weeks downloading these files again when the only thing that really needs to be done is the ITunes Library XML data file needs to be rebuilt. It dawns on me that my IPod has an XML data file that save any updates I have not yet synced with it that it is quite current. Is there some way that I can sync my IPod with ITunes and copy the IPod XML data file into ITunes Library XML data file? I know that there must be some way to access the IPod since I can plug it into my Kenwood car stereo and read through the IPod's contents.
Is there anyone out there that has an idea that might be able to help me recover my ITunes library?

The XML file is not used by iTunes. It is created for the use of other programs. Your library is in the itl file. SInce you still have the file you could simply add them to your library using the add folder option instead of downloading again.

Help! Is there a way to rebuild the mail archive? all mail scrambled...

All my archive is scrambled... The emails are connected to the incorrect "from", "subject" etc. in the finder. I'll highlight, for example, an email from "susan x." in the mail finder and the email attached to that will be a totally unrelated email from a different person or company or something. It is a complete mess.
Is there any way to fix this?

In Mail, select the problematic mailbox and go to the "Mailbox" menu. At the bottom select "Rebuild".

Yes by booting the system from either the OS X install DVD or from the Recovery HD partition and using Terminal to bring up the Reset Password system.

Is there a way to reduce the size of a palette without dragging from the bottom corner?

My work bought me a huge new Thunderbolt monitor yesterday, so I took advantage of the real estate and expanded my Layers palette to be very tall, and along with several other adjustments, saved this out as a custom workspace. Today though I am working only on a laptop offsite with no Thunderbolt and the bottom of the Layers palette is offscreen where I can't get to it. I know if I change workspaces to one of the Adobe presets it will give me a standard size Layers palette, but if possible I would like to work within my custom workspace and just change the height of the palette.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Did you save your workspace with a name of your choosing?
Look at the Workspace selector at the upper-right. You can instantly change overall layout by choosing different workspaces.
Save the one you have before you lose it (it's under the Window - Workspace menu), then try the different ones.
You could, for example, save two different workspaces, one for the large monitor and one for the little monitor.
For immediate relief, you could choose Essentials and start to customize again.

I need to obtain an image's attributes such as dimensions (height, width in pixels) without placing image in indesign document.
I have full path of the image (say abc.jpg is stored at c:\my pic\abc.jpg).
I have obtained the IDFile for this image, tried getting size using GetFileSize() which correctly return size in bytes.
Is there any way to get the height/width of image without importing it in the indesign document.
Please, give me some hints. I have spent quite a lot time digging in CHM. I have searched in FileUtils, IDFile API's but found no method which serves this purpose.
At this point I am clueless where to search next.
Any help will be appriciated.
Just a point to mention, I am able to get image height and width for an image in indesign doc though Its not my requirement.

You might be able to examine the contents of the PlaceGun after calling kImportAndLoadPlaceGunCmdBoss without actually placing the image in a document. Not sure, but would be worth looking at.
Otherwise you will probably have to write platform specific code, ideally with a generic platform-independant wrapper (see SDKSamples/paneltreeview/PlatformFileSystemIterator).
For the Mac, look at CGImageGetWidth() etc., not sure what the best option is for windows.
Perhaps Quicktime could provide you with a platform independant solution.
