Is there a way to switch to single-user mode for screen sharing in Lion?

Hello,
with the new multiple user mode one screen sharing guest can not see the mouse cursor of another - even if they use the same login.
It's a pity, because we use screensharing to discuss the content of the screens with multiple screen sharing users.
It is necessary to point with the cursor to show the other members of this 'screen sharing meeting' things while discussing.
This is not possible anymore with Lion and multi user screen sharing.
Does anybody know a patch or terminal command to switch back to single user mode for screen sharing?
Kind regards
Carl M.

  • Is there a way to add a single jar to an existing shared library (war)?

    Hello,
Is there a way to add a single jar to an existing and already deployed shared library (war) in weblogic directly?
Basically, instead of building and deploying the war each time a new jar should be added to the list of jars present in the war and deploy it in weblogic, is it possible to make the process more automatic and efficient by just adding the new jar to the existing deployed war (no matter if the consumers must be reloaded)?

Extract the WAR file and rearchive with theJAR file included.

  • How do i repair my hard drive in single user mode when disk is full?

    Hi there Apple Community!
I have an old Macbook Pro 17" with an upgraded 500GB harddrive and 4GB memory. I'm running Mac OSX Lion.
Was hoping you could help me out.  THis is the situation:
Long story short I spilt wine on my macbook and the screen went a bit blobby. Switched it off for a few days, removed the battery etc. etc. Opened it up cleaned out as much of the wine as possible, but unfortunately some of it came in behind the LCD, so now the screen has a nice red stain.  Obviously I'm not going to try to clean that out of the LCD.
My Macbook Pro still worked for a few days after that, but then my harddrive gave up.  I booted in the Recovery HD menu, verified the drive and I got the error "Keys out of order - This disk needs to be repaired, click Repair Disk." I attempted to repair the disk but got the error "Keys out of order - Disk Full Error - The volume could not be repaired".
Unfortnately of this 500GB I only have about 7GB free on it, as I have a huge iPhoto and iTunes library. I did make a TIme Machine backup of my user directory, but not the system files.  I don't really want to do a clean install because:
    1) I'm paranoid that there's something I did not fully back up
    2) I don't want to have to download the whole Mac OSX Lion again. I should have made a USB bootable backup when I had the chance.  I don't have access to a broadband connection.
What I feel are my viable options, are as follows:
    1) I did buy a replacement internal 500GB harddrive, so I can probably try to make an image of the hard drive to this new drive, but not sure how. I believe it's through the Disk Utility with the "New Image" option but not sure how to go from there.
    2) Start up in Single User Mode and delete some unnecessary files and re-attempt to run the fschk -fy utility again (I tried this earlier and got the same Disk Full Error).  - the problem with this is, I'm not familiar with the command line and have no clue how to delete files.  I don't know my way around Unix.
    3) I can also probably attempt to make a Ghost Image or Acronis Image of the failed drive to this new drive, but not sure if Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image will be able to read this HFS drive - I believe it's possible as it's a simple hard drive clone.
If you can guide me in the best option - probably there is a better solution than my proposed ones above, I appreciate any feedback and comments you might have!

    hi Baltwo,
So I ended up copying my user folder to another harddrive. I managed to download the whole osx lion again, reinstalled, and recovered my home folder using this discussion:

I have managed to get all my files back. My iTunes library works fine, but my iPhoto library when I open it, get the following error:

I've done an Apple Software Update but it didn't find an update for iPhoto.
One thing to note is, this library was originally created on iLife 08, upgraded to '09 and it stayed on that version. It hasn't een upgraded to iLife '11.  It worked fine on my previous install of OSX Lion.  How do I recover the library without upgrading to '11 ?

  • Single Window Mode for Windows version?

    Hey there,
as some might know, there's a "hack" to get Single Window Mode for Safari on Mac. Normally. links with "target=_blank" will open in a new window instead of a new tab. In order to get Single Window Mode, the following code needs to be typed into Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true
Unfortunately, this won't work on Windows, so I would like to know if there's another way to have Single Window Mode.

No, there isn't. That feature is not implemented in the Windows version The only way to open targeted links in a new Tab is to Control-click or Right-click on the link and select Open in New Tab from the contextual menu.

  • Mount USB Device in Single User Mode

    Hi All,
Can anyone give me any assistance of mounting a USB stick in single user mode?
I am trying to use the command:
    $ mount -uw /dev/disk2s1 /Volumes/usb
    But it get the error:
--specified device does not match mounted device
If I put the USB stick in normal OSX mode, then run 'df -k' in terminal, it is mounted by automounter, but I can't seem to get it to mount in single user mode.
    Thanks,
    Nik

    Hi Nik,
I don't believe that there are enough services started in Single User Mode to do this; you'll have to start the services yourself. However, I haven't tested this so I don't know. Wanna be a Guinea Pig?
If your going to need to write to the boot drive, mount it read/write with:
    /sbin/mount -uw /
Next, start the basic services, including diskarbitrationd:
    /usr/libexec/registermach_bootstrapservers /etc/mach_init.d
The above should be one line, modulo wrapping. Then start diskarbitrationd:
    /sbin/SystemStarter start Disks
You should probably check /dev and see what disks are already mounted. (without the USB stick) I assume that the services that mount removable media are now started so insert the stick and see if it appears mounted in /Volumes. Otherwise, check /dev and see if there's a new disk. If it only appears in /dev, you can use the standard mount command to mount it. If it doesn't appear in /dev then you might reboot into Single User Mode and repeat the procedure with the USB stick already inserted. If none of that works then this must not be the right method and you have my apologies.

  • Password protected EFI and Single User Mode

    Hello Community,
if I protect the EFI with a password than the single user mode is disabled. But I thought that I can enter the single user mode by entering the EFI password but no password prompt appears. Only the possibility to change the startup volume is accessible by a password prompt. Do I miss a possibility or is the only way to enter the single user mode by bypassing or disable the password by using the firmware password utility on the installation disk without violence?
BTW: I know the act of violence by changing the RAM configuration but this isn't the way I want to describe in the system documentation
Thx in advance & Bye Tom

Try holding the Option key while booting. It should ask for the password, then allow any boot options after you select the drive. If you boot from the install DVD (using the Option key and password), you can use the "Utilities" menu to disable the password, after choosing your language.

    Hi ndmulderx,
If I understand correctly, your family has been sharing a single Apple ID and now you want to give everyone an individual Apple ID without losing any content. You can do this with Family Sharing. The article below provides details about the feature which will allow you to share purchases between family members, create shared photo albums and much more.

  • Is there a way to switch between workspaces in Spaces from the command line?  I want to write a script to set up certain applications in certain workspaces (without having to do it manually each time)...

Is there a way to switch between workspaces in Spaces from the comnand line?  I use several workspaces from Spaces, each workspace having a certain number of fixed applications running.  Rather than set all this up each time I log on, I'd like to write a script from the command line (I use gawk) to automate this. Currently I have a gawk script that, given a directory, opens a few xterms whose working directory is the given directory, and opens "preview" applied to a certain file in that directory.  However, at present I have to manually move an xterm through each workspace and run my gawk script in each workspace (applied to each directory that I'm working on).
There must be a better way...

Addendum: Can this be done via:   open -a Spaces --args xxx  , where xxx is some set of arguments (or something like this)?

  • I have question about take folders.  After recording multiple takes on a project of say 16 tracks. Is there a way to switch between takes globally?  Instead of one at a time which is tedious.  I am talking about a situation where all tracks are being

Oops , my body got put into the title sorry.   Anyway so when doing live recording and multiple takes of all tracks is there a way to switch between takes globally instead of switching them one by one?

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • Is there a way to switch plans?

Hey. I took my girlfriend to the movies for her birthday, and I don't have enough for the $14 unlimited plan this month, but I have enough for one of the cheaper plans for this month. Is there a way to switch to switch to one of those for now?

The issue of cross store purchasing comes up frequently so I'll just quote one of the most complete explanations (courtesy of Dave Sawyer) from the many given:
In order to buy from any given country's iTunes Music Store you must be able to show some form of residency which would be either:
    a) a credit card with a billing address in that country, or
    b) a mailing address in that country and a gift certificate or a prepaid card that was bought in that country.
If you cannot fulfill one of these two sets of conditions, you will not be able to purchase from any given country's iTMS.
.......this is due to restrictions placed on Apple by the record companies and other rights holders (who are often completely different from country to country and so all require their own individual negotiations and contracts), not by Apple's choice. And this also applies to all the legal download stores that carry major-label content, not just the iTMS.

  • Is there a way to switch to an earlier software update?

Is there a way to switch to an earlier software update?

Its not officially supported, but its really easy to do.
    Download prior versions here:
http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22056 (be sure you get the correct version).
To install these firmwares, download the files in the browser and save to disk, then use iTunes to restore.
First you will need to put your phone into DFU mode. Next, you will use the “shift restore” (PC) or “option restore” (OSX). This will bring up a file selection box in iTunes that allows you to find the file you downloaded to program.
Remember, if you are downgrading your firmware then you will get an error at the end of the process such as 1011, 1013, 1015 or such. This is normal.
This has worked for all prior versions, but who knows if Apple disabled this with 2.2, as it contains a new baseband engine.
You might be better served to find out why your 2.2 does not work, because going backwards in the long run is counter-productive. Getting it to work is a better idea. This method can be used to install 2.2 as well if itunes is having problems downloading.

Below are the instructions to set your modem to 3G-only mode:
Open VZAccess Manager with your card inserted, but do NOT connect to the internet.
Hold Control + D on your keyboard.
You will be prompted to enter a password. Enter diagvzw.
    Select "settings" from the menu.
In the for preferred operating mode section, select Auto CDMA Then click OK.
Your modem will now only connect to the 3G network. Just remember that you will need to manually change it if you travel to an area where you want to connect to the 4G network (if available).
We trust that you find the above instructions helpful.

  • Is there a way to switch back to the old color scheme for the keypad? The new black-on-white color scheme is more difficult to see and use for the visually impaired.

Is there a way to switch back to the old color scheme for the keypad? After upgrading to ios 6, the keypad switched to a black-on-white color scheme.  I have a severe visual impairment and found the previous white-on-black color scheme much easier to see and use.
The inverted colors option doesn’t make things look all that better.    My dad, who does not have any serious vision problems, has put off upgrading his iphone because of the color scheme changes.

I have exactly the same concern. It seems it would be a simple fix for Apple to allow users to turn off the camera (and even the mic) while keeping FaceTime open -- especially now that it turns out FaceTime must remain open in order to send and receive iPhone calls on a Mac.
I like to think this new functionality of FaceTime will be baked into a future release of Yosemite, as the current setup has that not-quite-finished feel of a work in progress. In the meantime, there's nothing like a little piece of Post-It stuck over the camera to keep the NSA from watching your face as you type a post to the Apple Support Communities.
