Is there usb to firewire adaptor for macbook air

I have macbook air and want to connect my lacie drive via firewire but dont have a firewire port.  can you connect via a usb to firewire adaptor?

Going down such as Thunderbolt to Firewire might be an option, but best bet for that is probably going to be Apple...Thunderbolt is an Apple invention.
Sonnett makes really great products, I put one of their G4 processor cards, when you could still do that, into my PPC Mac and changed it from a 604e processor to a G4.  Worked flawlessly.  Their products are very likely to do exactly as advertised.
Speed of connection goes: USB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, Thunderbolt.  Unfortunately there are not very many Thunderbolt drives on the market at this point.  Too new technology.

  • USB to Firewire adapter for MacBook Air?

I would like to switch to a MacBook Air, but I still need to use my video camera via firewire. I found out that there is no direct way to connect firewire to MacBook Air, isn't it?
Then I have found PCMCIA cards supporting firewire connections. The remain question now is: Does a PCMCIA drive with USB connector exist where I can plug in the PCMCIA firewire card? It seems that such a kind of combination works for UMTS PCMCIA cards. But does it work also for firewire cards? Which adapter could work?
Or is there any other way to get my camera working at MacBook Air?

    Hi Michael,
I am facing the same difficulty.. would like to plug my camcorder on my mac book air..
but without firewire... do not know how to proceed.. which is very annoying..
I ll get back to you if I come across some useful info

  • Is there an SDXC adaptor for Macbook Air 11

Is there an SDXC adaptor for Macbook Air 11

For computers without a built-in camera card reader, you can purchase one for use
with a USB port. So long as the adapter is qualified for use with SDXC, it should work.
    Good luck!

Where can I find a driver for STLab, USB 2.0 to VGA Adaptor for Mcbook Air

    Thank you for the response.
I downloaded it and it keeps telling me "No Scanner Detected." I looked on their website under supported scanners, found my Microtek ScanMaker 3600 and it says "NO" for Mac.
    http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/microtek_scanmaker_3600.html
I just sent an email to them asking if VueScan does support a my scanner. I hope it does. I have been searching but am not proficient or know enough of what to look for. I just don't want to have to buy another scanner.

  • USB TV Tuner Card for Macbook Air

    Dear all,
Hello! i'm using a Macbook Air (mid-2012) 11.6". i'm in need of a USB tv tuner card. Which brand i should choose?
Please note that, Gadmei is the most available brand in our country. is it possible to use this brand of tv tuner (USB) with Macbook air? OS is- MacOSX 10.9.2 (mavericks). Please suggest.
Also plz tell me is there any way to use Gadmei or RealMedia TV tuner with mac without official mac driver? (i mean using EyeTV or such third-party TV app)
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

Unfortunately most of these TV devices require USB2 bandwidth so are not suitable for the iMac G3.
The Firewire versions (EyeTV 310, 410 and 610 depending on input type) are the only options.
The EyeTV 250 is an analogue only Tuner that does work on USB1.1 but in a low quality mode only.

  • Difference between batarries for Macbook air A1245 and A1237?

Hello. Is there any difference between batarries for Macbook air A1245 and A1237(the very first air)? I often see ads in Internet where baterries are described like *for A1245/A1237*. Please, help.

So, just to make it clear. What is a1245? I know that there is no such MBA, but why people mark batteries as *a1245/a1237*?
If I buy battery marked *a1245/a1237*, will it work? See an example http://www.ebay.com/itm/Battery-for-Apple-MacBook-Air-13-A1245-A1237-MB003-MC233 -MC233LL-A-MC234-A1304-/300934966726

There has never been a reliable firewire ---> USB adapter suitable for external high speed storage.  This was a major issue when the MacBooks lost the firewire port a number of years ago (Apple subsequently brought it back).
The only high speed port on the Air is the ThunderBolt port.  There are external ThunderBolt drive options out there, but they're somewhat more expensive than traditional USB/FireWire options.

  • Firewire to usb adapter for macbook air

    Hello,
Just purchased the latest version Macbook Air.  I'd like to transfer video from a Sony video camera w/mini DV tape, into iMovie '11 on the laptop.  Trouble is, I can't use my existing firewire cable as before on the iMac desktop.  There are prior discussions on the forum about this but none current.  Have there been any new developments in the firewire adapter arena for Macbook Air?  Thx.

Sonnet Technologies is supposed to introduce a Thunderbolt-Firewire adapter called the Sonnet Allegro later this month. http://www.sonnettech.com
"The Allegro™ FW800 Thunderbolt™ Adapter enables users to plug in a FireWire® 800 device, including a bus-powered drive, to any computer with a Thunderbolt port."

  • USB to Firewire adaptors

I've seen cables advertised as USB to Firewire adaptors. Can these be used to connect USB devices to a Firewire port? One of my USB ports is dead and the other can be flaky at times.
    Thanks

    Hi Tar,
I'm afraid there are no such converters available that work in the required direction.
There is one I'm aware of which will run from a FW device to a USB2 ported computer, but associated software is for Windows only, as I understand it - see http://www.pixela-1.com/captycable/
It won't work in the reverse direction (which is what you would need), and, as I understand it, can only be used for connecting a video camera's FW port to a USB2 computer (by reporocessing the FW signal into video , and then sending this to the USB port) , not for other purposes such as general firewire devices like drives, burners, etc etc. So its not for you. Even to achieve only this it costs $120US.
There have been some "dual" firewire /USB hubs on the market but they all require you to have a cable to your computer's FW port and another cable to your computer's USB port to provide both forms of connection.
Your answers , I'm afraid, are to get the existing USB ports sorted out or to see if you can find FW peripherals to replace the USB ones.
    Cheers

  • Usb or Firewire adaptor that would fit a 25 pin scsi cord?

I have an old Iomega 100 ZIP reader that was compatible with my G3, when my G3 died I had no way to access the zips with my new Macbook Pro, since there is no SCSI port.
Is there an USB or Firewire adaptor I can purchase that will connect to the 25 pin SCSI cord so I can hook up my Zip reader?
If there is not an adaptor, does anyone know how or where I can back up these files to cd's?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There is a device here that converts UltraSCSI to FireWire, but the ZIP 100 is not Ultra. It's an expensive gadget.
You could probably find a used external ZIP 100 USB fairly cheap. See:
    http://www.amazon.com/Iomega-Zip-100-Portable-Drive/dp/B00000J3Q7
We have one and used it to move all the files we'd put on ZIPs from two old Macs with SCSI ZIP drives to our newer non-SCSI Macs.

  • Is there any usb in full box of macbook air?

I bought Macbook air 13 in Apple Store Reseller in last year, they settuped my mac osx, and then give me full box of macbook, but when i checked the box i didn't see any usb for restoring osx? i don't know is there any usb in full box of macbook air???
    <Edited by Host>

If yours is the mid 2011 model, then no, it does not come with a USB system disk. The computer has a Recovery Partition, and Internet Recovery mode to provide all you need to restore the system. All you really need is a reliable internet connection.
Yes, I know, for some people it is a tad disconcerting, as they may not have a fast internet connection in the event that a restore is required. The best workaround is to create a clone of the system onto an external disk (using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper apps). Potentially, if you do it early, you can fit everything onto a 16 GB flash drive.

Yes.  You can use one of a higher wattage, just not a lower wattage.

Not at this time. It would also be great to have an adjustment for sensitivity too.

  • Compatible at-home printer for MacBook Air 13"?

Can anyone recommend an at-home printer for MacBook Air 13" for my granddaughter?  High school now requires papers typed and printed.  Thanks.

Personally I like Canon inkjet printers. When I connected it to the USB port, the MacBook immediately recognized it and it worked without a hitch. If you're going to be printing mostly B/W then there are many inexpensive laser printers that typically print faster and crisper for text. IMHO.
