Isight Camera is slow with photobooth

Hi ,
My isight camera in photobooth is slow or delay for a second or 2 when capturing photos or video record anything. Is like if i smile to the camera , the isight in photobooth will only show it after a second or 2. Is there anyway to solve it or set it to real time ?
Thank you.

Open up another account to see if the delay shows up there?
If you have any peripherals attached, disconnect them. Issue gone?
Or you can see if resetting the PRAM helps. How much RAM do you have?

For your skill level, re-read the User Guide manual that came with your Mac and then use your Mac's "Help" to searches for basic info about any words you do not understand from my suggestions.
If you need more help, spend some time studying subjects of interest from the link below:

Mac 101 offers new users a great basic primer on using and troubleshooting your Mac.
If the above do not give you the level of detailed information you need, you need more training than I could write here. If you do not have a Mac friend who can help you, your nearest computer store can help you find low or no-cost help sources such as: a local Mac Users' Group, Adult Education courses, or perhaps even a computer club in your area. You can also find help in books or magazines dedicated to using Macs.  Many are available from bookstores as well as from the on-line Apple Store at this link:

  • Built in isight camera not working with flash

My built in isight camera on my macbook works just fine in photobooth and in skype or ichat.. but just in the past week or so, it will not work when im on websites that use flash. I've seen some threads that say that I need to go into settings and make sure that the camera chosen is the USB. When i go into flash settings, the only options are Google1, Google2, or Built in isight. It doesn't work with any of them. Does anyone have any idea how I can make it work again?

Your problem is not the same as that posted by the OP, and your system info shows you using Mac OS X (10.5.6).
For your symptoms with this system, I suggest you do the following:
    (1) Apply the 10.5.8 Combo Update using the following process:
      • Backup your Mac and turn off Time Machine
      • Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
      • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
      • Download and install
       http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
      • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
      • Test whether Flash works for you now.
(• Turn Time Machine on later when you are satisfied that the update worked.)
    (2) After applying the 10.5.8 Combo, if you are still having problems, download and install the latest Flash player compatible with your system:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
Also check any other third-party browser plugins or other add ons. Apply all available updates and uninstall any third-party items that are known to be incompatible with your system.

  • Isight camera not working with skype on Win 7 Bootcamp

So I was happily running windows 7 (need it for work) on my MACBook (mid 2009) with Bootcamp 3.2 until a couple of weeks ago.
I updated something (either Skype or Bootcamp, etc) and all of a sudden, my iSight camera takes like 4-5 seconds to initialize, and the frame rates on the camera with Skype are like 1 new grab every 10-15 seconds.
    Anyone run into this before?
    Thanks,
    Wes

I know this is an older thread BUT I've been dealing with this issue for the past four days and this is what I found... (perhaps if it helps another person....)
Assuming you've already checked while on a Skype video call that your camera isn't turned off...
    FIRSTLY
Open Skype Preferences to verify your settings.
(prob in your downloads, applications folder or on your desktop)
Then at the top your screen, next to the Apple Icon you should see Skype:
Select Skype, then scroll down to Preferences.  Verify settings.
(Mine, for example, under the "Calls" Tab was set to autoanswer so I can check on
my dogs while away and tell them to get off the couch!)
    SECONDLY
Make sure another apple app isn't hijacking your camera.
Open Finder, Devices, Applications, then look for IChat
Once open, Select iChat and scroll down to preferences.
(For my settings, I don't use IChat SO I changed the "default IM application" to Skype,
    under General settings tab.)
    Select the green Audio/Video Tab
and uncheck "Open IChat when external camera is on"
    THIRDLY
I verified that all other Apps using the camera weren't open.  My insight camera worked
when I opened Photobooth,  IChat, Facetime and ICamSource (a monitoring program)
    - just didn't work with Skype!
From Desktop, go to Apple Icon, select "Force Quit Finder", then scroll down and
close everything that uses the camera.
    FINALLY
From Desktop, go to Apple Icon and select Restart (pic same as above).
Upon restarting, once the screen blanks out hold down the following keys all at once:
Option, Command and P and R keys.
For me, I heard the computer "restart song" chime twice before letting go.

I tried a Skype video call from an Iphone to Mac Desktop and it went through just fine!

  • External iSight cam not working with iChat

I've got an external iSight cam that was working fine in 10.5.8 with iChat - I'm using 10.6.1 now. Now when I open iChat, the camera stays off (no green light) and iChat video preview says that another application is using the camera so it's not available, which of course, is not true.
I've tried everything I know, but can't get it to work. The camera works with Skype, so I know it's functioning properly.
When I checked the Connection Doctor, under Network, it says that there's something in my network setup that is preventing video chats, but I haven't changed anything since upgrading to SL. I have a direct ethernet cable to my DSL modem/router - Covad. My wife's iChat works fine with her new LogiTech camera, and she's on the same home network/router.

The iChat 4 version does not work in Snow Leopard/iChat 5 and that was why I was asking.

  • Is it possible to get an iSight camera to work with Yahoo Messenger?

Totally new to PC here. Been a Macuser all my computer life, but needed a second computer for work. Not thrilled, but there it is.
So, I'm wondering if the isight camera is PC compatible, and if so, how and what drivers do I install? Or do I just go out and by a PC camera?

    Hello maurice493windows ML
Until Tony gets back with you, here is some info you can consider.
iSight does not need an installer CD because it was sold by Apple for use with Macs. All software for iSight is built into Mac OS X, so no separate installer CD was provided.
Apple's Boot Camp software that comes with the iNtel Macs has drivers for XP, but I am uncertain whether you have one of the iNtel Macs. If you do have access to an iNtel Mac and the software that came with it, you can extract the driver using the info Tony provided in this response to "Lennysapple" here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4207189&#4207189
This apparently will work with a PC running Windows XP, but I have not yet seen reports of it working properly with Windows Vista. You may, as Tony suggests, need to experiment to find out.
    <hr width="75%">
I do not recommend iSight on a PC. If you have too much difficulty, a USB webcam that is compatible with YM for your PC may be a quicker and easier choice. Many of the PC compatible USB webcams are cheap, and they were designed to work with PCs.
This Google Search returned links, such as this one, which contains the following statement that may indicate more problems for you:
... Apple specific hardware will not work, such as the iSight, Bluetooth, etc. due to the fact that they're written for 32-bit Windows XP SP2.
I do not know whether that is still true, but it does support my suggestion that it may be easier to buy a PC compatible USB webcam.

  • External iSight camera's compatibility with OS 10.5.8 / iMovie 09

I'm new here and joined because I couldn't find the answers to my questions anywhere on the net.
I just upgraded my OS to 10.5.8 and then installed iLife 09, only to discover that my USB iMage webcam won't capture video in iMovie 09. So I've been researching a replacement, only to get totally overwhelmed by the options. I don't really need a more expensive digital camcorder . . . just a good quality webcam for vcasting.
I found an "A" model external iSight camera still new in box from an Amazon seller but am hesitant to push the BUY button for fear it won't do what I want or isn't compatible in some way with either the new OS or iMovie 09.
I surely would appreciate some input for you all about this iSight camera option and whether it's the best choice.
    Thanks,
    Janae

    (1) Although iMovie Help says you should use a firewire webcam, as shown here, your USB iMage webcam should be compatible with 10.5.8 and iMovie '09:
      http://www.ecamm.com/mac/imagewebcam/apps.html
Restart your Mac with your webcam connected and check iMovie function again. If you don't already know, this tutorial will show you how to record from a built-in USB iSight:
      http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-isight
To use your USB iMage webcam, the only thing you need to do differently from what is shown in this tutorial is to *be sure your webcam is selected* (instead of iSight) in the "Camera:" choices bar in the recording preview window.

Other readers should be aware that some webcams do not have built-in mics, auto-focus, etc., so check carefully for any features that are important to you.

  • Can iSight camera be used with a PC?

Hi. I have an iSight camera mounted on one of my computers, and one that is built into my laptop. I was thinking I might give the standalone iSight to my sister, who is a PC user, so that we can do video chats using appropriate IM software. Is it possible for her to use the iSight camera with a PC that is FireWire ready, if she is able to find a workaround driver?

Most Windows IM clients will recognize the iSight as is, but cannot get audio from it. There is no dedicated Windows driver.

I'm thinking about purchasin a used iSight camera so I can skype using my TV (which I now use as a monitor). Will this older legacy product work with my MacBook Pro (2011)?

It can work, but I'd recommend a new compatible USB cam instead.

Hi guys! I searched the forum and couldn't seem to find anything on this...I'm trying to upload an audition for Glee on Myspace using my iSight camera. The audio seems to be recording fine, but when I try to play back what I've just recorded there is no video. I checked the settings and everything seems to be connected fine but it's still not working. Any idea why this is happening or what I can do to fix it? Thanks so much!

    Hi,
A look here show me the Video shown is Flash based.
This would make me guess that the Record feature is also Flash based.
This should give you access to a Settings panel that you will have to tick the Allow Box and possibly select the camera from as well (icon to the lower right)

    camera works with ichat.
under preferences, I see myself, but I log into skype video/chat button greys out.
    any suggestions?

    (1) In general, to troubleshoot iSight itself: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
Be sure to check more than one Apple camera app (perhaps iMovie, too) in more than one user account.
    (2) If your iSight works with your iChat Apple app but not Skype in every user account you test, the problem must be ONLY with your Skype.  The first thing to try is restarting Mac and testing with ONLY Skype running.  If that does not help, repair permissions and retest.
    (3) If the problem continues, the best help for Skype-specific problems should come from Help for Skype – user guides, FAQs, customer support.
Skype even offers its own dedicated Mac - Skype Community.  To save time, you can search there for existing answers to your specific question or post your question there and wait for help from Skype for Mac users who post there.
If all else fails, you can even Sign in to your Skype account to get help directly from Skype technical support.
    (4) If you find that you need to reinstall Skype, try clicking this download and reinstsll the latest Skype version compatible with your Mac OS X (10.5.8) computer.  If a compatible version is not available at this current  Skype download site, and if you did not save a backup of the old Skype version that works with your Mac OS 10.5.8, you may be able to get what you need from Old Version of Skype for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (PowerPC) Download.

  • FaceTime/iSight Camera Slow

I've recently updated to Yosemite.  Since, I found issues with the FaceTime/iSight camera running slow, is really the best way I could describe it.  Glitchy uneven video quality.  Camera seems to be working fine on my iMac.  Updated to Yosemite at the same time.

Sorry - but for some reason your photo isn't being displayed - you can attach one to your message by using the little camera icon at the top of the composition bar.
AFAIK, there's no real way to 'tweak' the FaceTime camera settings, You could see if it is specific to your user account to rule out most software glitches by creating a new account (unless you already have one) and logging into the new account to check the camera again.
Never had a problem with the ATD camera - works very well for me.

  • FaceTime camera not working with Skype

Recently I've had trouble with my Facetime/iSight camera not playing nice wth Skype.
The camera works fine with Photobooth and Facetime, but if I try a video call in Skype, I just get the spinning graphic. Doesn't matter how strong the connection is. Until recently, I could get Skype to recognise the camera in the video preferences tab, but now nothing, just blank.
I've tried installing a plugin from Skype that's meant to fix the problem, but still no luck.
    Any ideas appreciated

For Skype specific problems like this, search or post in Skype's dedicated forum.
Also, your OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2) is out of date. Restart Mac, repair disk permissions, and apply the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo).  Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that completes the Combo install.
