Issue with CS5 shortcuts

I am running Photoshop CS5 on my Vostro 230 desktop and have had a lot of issues with my shortcuts not popping up menus and switching tools.
The ones I have had the most problems with is switching the brush tool (B), gradient tool/fillbucket toggling (G), brush menu (F5) and opening history (F9). The brush and gradients won't switch unless I click on the canvas which usually means I have to undo then go on to what I was doing. The brush menu and history just won't come out at all unless I do it manually.
Is this a bug that is fixable? I switched over from CS3 and never had this issue and it is really interrupting my workflow.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

When you get a condition where it's not accepting a keystroke, check something:
Look carefully to see if some of the letters in the menus in the Photoshop main window have been given underlines.  If so, this may indicate that you've invoked the menu key introducer (Alt key), and Photoshop is waiting for a menu key.
There is some subtle difference in the way Photoshop handles the Alt key combination with CS5 vs. earlier versions, and because of the way some folks press the keys on their keyboard they end up invoking it (which is easy to do:  Just hit the Alt key once and you're there).
There have been some workarounds where folks have created software/scripts that translate keystrokes to lessen the problem.  There was a thread on this forum active for a good part of last year which provided some download links...

  • Compatibility issues with CS5.5 and Maverick 10.9

I'd like to know if there are any compatibility issues with CS5.5 and Maverick 10.9 before I upgrade from 10.6.8.

To be honest, I use the CS5 Premium Creative Suite and have had to upgrade all my app's to Mavericks because I have a new iMac, the other one just died.
I used the 'Time Machine' to backup and to transfer all the files, the Mac apps almost transferred 100% but not all successfully, especially iDVD, it was probably something that I did not click in the 'Time Machine preferences'.
If I had the choice, upgrade to 'Mountain Lion, I would revert back to Mountain Lion but not got the discs, I find Mavericks very clunky and slow and causing lots of issues with my Adobe applications.
So if it is not too late, I would wait a few months before upgrading to Mavericks.
    Hope this info' has helped.

  • Windows 7 Firewire Issues with CS5 and ADVC-700

I've got a Windows 7, 64 bit system with CS 5. In dubbing out for playback, I route a firewire cable from the PC to an Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC-700. Both units are less than a year old and are having issues with "black outs" during the dub out process. I've read different things about Windows 7 having issues with firewire drivers. After speaking to someone with Adobe, I've changed my firewire driver to Legacy. That hasn't helped.
The ADVC-700 has s-video out running to preview monitor and BNC out/XLR audio running to my playback system for ingest. When the video goes to black (usually for a 1/2 second), the audio drops out with it.
I've reset the settings on the ADVC-700 with no luck.
Any suggestions on a fix or something else to try?

I did test with a JVC GY-HD200U and there weren't any performance issues which led me back to the PC or other on the PC.
The system is running Windows 7, 64 bit with CS5 Production Premium following an upgrade from the CS4 version.
I've got 12 GB of Ram, (2) Intel Xeon Quad Core E5560 -2.8 GHZ processoCrs.
    (1) 500GB SATA2 hard drive, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (System Drive)
    (3) 1 TB SATA2 Hard drives, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (3 TB, RAID0 Storage Drive)
    Nvidia GeForce 9800GT graphics Card
    Supermicro X8DAi motherboard, Intel 5520 Chipset, 2-PCIe X16, 1 PCIe x4, 3-PCI, 10-USB2 ports, 2-pro/1000 NIC, 8-channel HD audio, 6 SATA ports, RAID 0/1/5/10
I've got the legacy drivers for the firewire card. I've checked to make sure all of the power save options are off along with all screen saver options. I've cleaned my Adobe Cache out, deleted my Adobe Preferences, went from the 4pin/6pin cable to a 6pin/6pin cable to feed the ADVC-700 from the PC, reset the ADVC 700 back to factory specs...all of this with no luck.
The problem seems to be worse since the move from CS4 to CS5 but it's hard to tell.
I've also hooked up an older ADVC-500 unit with the same output results.
I think I noted in the first post that this is happening on two indentical systems with the same cabling and programs and the same ADVC-700 boxes.
I've been told by Adobe to clean my C; drive and reload the OS and Adobe CS5 as I should have done that when I upgraded instead of just upgrading the system from CS4 to CS5 using the discs. I haven't done this yet as I have to budget time/workflow to accomodate.

  • Color Profile issues with CS5

I´ve been having some issues with the color profiles since I´ve installed the CS5 on my laptop (Windows 7 ultimate).
To describe what I mean please see the images:
Every time I open Photoshop or Illustrator this message apppears:
so I hit ok, but I´m not sure if this affect the artworks that will be printed, I use the CMYK Mode but the colors does not match very well.
    Hope you can help me
    Thanks in advance,
    Diana.

You have some serious reading up on color management to do... I strongly suggest you sift through the Illustrator/InDesign/Photoshop forums and the web in general. Short version: Using RGB profiles makes no sense whatsoever if you are working in CMYK but in reverse working in CMYK does not make sense if you are only printing at home/ displaying graphics on your own computer. Anyway, this is an infinitely complex topic, so realyl, do some reading and then ask more specific questions in the program-centric forums...

  • "Interactive Photomerge issue with CS5..."

              Hello,
I've been attempting a 'merge with some photo's that I took over the weekend in New York... Some of them didn't have the apparent 40% overlap that's needed for a good 'Auto merge so I've been attempting to use the "Interactive Merge". When I was using CS4 I never had any problems with it doing its job... But I've found that with its use under CS5, that it doesn't just merge the images... "It actually drops the Scaling down by almost 50% each and every time I attempt using it.   If I start out with a "Height" of say 20inches, the merge will drop down to the 10inch +- area... If I attempt to use the "Merged" results of that attempt and merge it with another frame... the Height will then drop down to the 4 - 5inch range.
Is this a known bug with the use of the "Interactive Merge" with CS5..?  Because I'm at a loss as to why this would be happening.  Is this perhaps "Why" you Adobe boys removed the "Interactive Merge" from Photomerge in the first place..?
With all the hype that I've heard surrounding CS5's Photomerging capabilities its kind of, how shall I say it,... maybe, Drop The Ball'ish... to be polite about it.  Photomerge is and Excellent part of Photoshop since its inception.  But with the release of CS5 I was expecting actual Advances in the Photomerge process, not removal's of some of its features, such as the case of the Interactive Merge.   I was actually hoping that once CS5 had been released that the Interactive Merge would have actually been advanced itself... One of, actually, My Only grip with how its worked in the past... is with its "Zoom, or Magnification" limits...  Its never made any sense to me that a Panoramic Stitching program that would be working on "Several" images at a time, some already merged, others needing to be adding to the project, would actually have a Limit on the Magnification aspect of the UI panel that your attempting to work on.  Unless your working on only 2 frames at a time, it becomes useless with the more frames you have already merged...
"Well, I believe that I was as polite about the, shall we say, lack of foresight, with Photomerge's advances... However, as for me, one of the main things I use Photoshop for, is my Photography believe it or not... and Panoramic's are what I'm usually working on."
.... just hoping for a little help is all...

  • Anybody have this TEXT TOOL ISSUE with CS5???

i'm on a pc that meets all system requirements for cs5 photoshop and notice that whenever i use the text tool and try to increase/decrease the size, leading or anything, i can not see my results in real time, i have to manually CLICK outside of the text area or in the gray area of the document for photoshop to actually make the change, almost like when you use the transform tool and resize things but have to *commit* the changes, so imagine if you were doing that only you couldnt actually see what size you were resizing your object to.
someone else in the office seems to be having this exact same issue as well. it's like closing your eyes to do your work and then opening them back up once you *think* you have the right font size or leading.
any help would be much appreciated!!!!!

If it's a "Mobility" card then chances are it's in a laptop, and many laptop manufacturers are required to be the source for driver updates.  You might have
to check with the computer maker.
If there's not a driver update for it, it's possible you could try downgrading the driver to an older version if one can be found.
What operating system are you running (XP, Vista, 7, 32 or 64 bit)?
I see they have a new release for your card for Vista and Windows 7 32 bit, for example, here:  http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-32.aspx

  • Issues with CS5 Liquify in my iMac with a AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB Graphics Card

I have been trying to get to the bottom of this issue on my own, but to no avail.  I am running Photoshop CS5.1 Extended on an iMac with an i7, 16 GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB graphic card.  I am running OSX Lion.  Speed of the computer should NOT be an issue, but my liquify tool is impossibly slow.  I have seen others having this issue, but am not finding resolutions.  I have updated all of my software (Lion, CS5) and updated my drivers.  I have uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it, but still, no help.
My Liquify tool is so slow that it is impossible to use.  It does not register if I release the mouse either and I often have to click a few times to release the brush.  I have Photoshop 5.1 on a PC and the Liquify runs very smoothly.
Has this issue been addressed?  I am wondering if it has a root in how CS5 is reacting to the graphics card?  When I called Adobe, they swore it was Apple's fault.  When I talked to Apple, they were positive the blame lay with Adobe.  I just want a fix.  (Hey, I'll take a CS6 beta if that'll fix it.  )
    Thank you,
    Rachel

Do you have any third party plugins installed?  If so, have you tried disabling them?  (one was showng to cause a slowdown, but I don't have my office notes handy at the moment to remember which one)
Also, there was one obscure third party utiliity program (haxie) that also caused slowdowns in Liquify. (and again, my notes are at the office, so I don't recall the name)
And you can try the usual: trash/reset Photoshop's preferences.
Oh, and Lion still has a bunch of video driver bugs that Apple is continuing to work on.
Sorry I don't have more definite info right now.

  • What exactly is the issue with CS5 and the retina display?

Just picked up a late 2013 MBP with retina display and have PS CS5 running on it.
What is the exact issue that I should be having when it comes to running CS5 on these machines ?  Is it just that the UI looks fuzzy?  Other than that it seems to run fine and my photos look fine also.

    What issue?"
That is what I am asking...Like I said, I am able to open CS5 on my new retina mbp and edit image files with no issue..the only thing that I notice that seems off is the text of the UI seems "fuzzy"....
So, what I am asking is what exactly is the problem supposed to be that I should be seeing?

I searched on the forums for a bit and found suggestions that I should uninstall Flash Player and AIR, so I did that to no effect.  Then I ran across this article http://forums.adobe.com/message/4393571.  So I took the suggestions and renamed the suggested items (I found them on Windows).  The installer didn't even initialize after that, so I reversed the changes I made and restarted.  Now the installer still won't initialize.  Any ideas?

I solved my problem!  Since the computer was new and there were a few things wrong with it, I decided to reinstall Windows.  After the reinstall, the two CS5.5 installs went flawlessly.  I believe the issues I encountered above were due to some edits to the registry I made in order to make the default program install location on my HDD instead of my SSD.  That combined with the suggestions I took from the internet completely messed up my installation.
I did try the CS Cleaner Tool before posting, but it didn't help.  But thanks for the prompt response!

  • Licensing/Downloading issues with CS5.5?

Anyone else purchase CS5.5 recently to get the free upgrade to CS6 and run into a bunch of issues?  I purchased Production Premium yesterday (5/3/12), and aside from an initial confirmation email, I've gotten zip since.  None of the programs were showing up on the licensing site (which is now down for "scheduled" maintenance) meaning no chance to download what I bought or get serial numbers, no email with my order number, no history of my order or transaction in my account info, online chat support stating that it's a 72-hour wait to get your downloads/serial numbers instead of the "up to 24 hour" time frame specified by the email, getting transfered from one department to another only to have the call dropped, a 2-hour hold for the licensing support line and no reps available for chat...
And of course the weekend is upon us so I'll likely have to wait until next week to (hopefully) access the software I purchased.  Kind of ridiculous.  Buy an online product somewhere else and you get download access as soon as you make the payment.  Spend $2000 on Adobe products and get no the runaround about what's going on with the order, why the delay, shoddy support/web services, etc.
Ugh.  Am I the only one?  Has annyone else made a purchase in the last couple of days without a hitch, namely a Creative Suite product in anticipation of the free upgrade to CS6 when it's released?
Do other users find this type of experience typical for Adobe purchases/support, or is it usually a hassle-free and straightforward process?  The software itself is going to be fantastic, no doubt, but the ordering process and customer support thus far has been absolutely dreadful.

Things are always busy and response times prolonged around the time of a major new release at Adobe.  As you saw, CS6 was released then so there was quite a bit of preparation and cutover going on and increased traffic...  But you should almost always be able to access the free trial downloads to get started with your product right away (no interruption and they're good for 30 days), until the permanent serial numbers arrive.

  • How to update revoked certificate issue with CS5 suite?

I have a security issue found with a Nessus scan that states:
Synopsis: An application installed on the remote Windows host is signed by a revoked certificate.
    Description
: The remote host is using Adobe software that has been digitally signed by a revoked certificate. An Adobe build server was compromised, which has caused at least two malicious utilities to be signed with Adobe's code signing certificate. Any software signed by this revoked certificate (including legitimate Adobe software) is no longer trusted.
I have followed everything I found on how to correct this, but most information is regarding CS6.  I have updated the certificate through Acrobat (version 9), but that has not fixed my issue.
The programs it says that are affected are:
    Bridge.exe
    Extension Manager
    Illustrato
    Photoshop
I see no way to update anytype of certificate in these programs.
Is it just that CS5 is no longer supported, or have I missed an update?
    Thanks,

  • Having a issue with CS5

I started a drawing in CS4 and currently working on it in CS5 which is why I'm wondering its the reason why I'm getting this issue. My issue is that my layers are locking sort of. Like if I place a colour on the layer I cant place a colour ontop of the previous colour. It allows me to place the new colour around it but not on it. It was not like this but now its slowly happening to all of the layers I have for this picture so could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong and if I can fix this?
Also I'm getting a issue where the colours are changing on me. Colours that I placed down turn out diffrent if I use the eyedropper like the hue or it turns out a bit lighter than the colour I'm trying to get. Bit of help with this issue too please?

Turn off OpenGL in the prefs and use the correct brush types. I can't really make sense of your description, but hardware drawing issues due to bad OpenGL setups and e.g. using the color replacment tool or mixer brush instead of the conventional brush seem to explain the problems best.

  • Color issue with CS5

    Hi,
I recently bought the latest version of photoshop CS5, but when I open my pictures in CS5, the colors doesn't look as good as when I was using CS2. They look more flat, with less contrast and it's driving me crazy because if I add more contrast and save it, when I preview it in other software, like windows viewer, than they look too contrasty.
Also, when I open my raw files in Adobe Camera Raw and set (camera calibration) to lanscape since my original picture from my camera was taken as lanscape (I just prefer that setting!), they look good. If I save it as a JPG and then open it in photoshop CS5, the JPEG image doesn't look as good, it looks flat. When I open the JPG in windows picture viewer, the image appears good, the same as in ACR.
I've checked the proof mode under View>proof setup and both CS5 and CS2 were: Working CMYK. I've tried to play with these setting in CS5 to see if it would help, but I can't get the same image as I had with CS2.  Also, when I go under edit>color setting, it's the same setting in both software (sRGB EIC61966).  In ACR, my image is also in set to sRGG.
Why are my picture looking so flat in CS5. I can't work on them because I'm affraid I will add to much contrast.  Also, I edit them in ACR, contrast looks good and than when I open it in CS5 I have to restart again because there is not enough constrat :S  This is so frustrating!!!! I would love some help on this.
    Mary

    Hi!
Thank you so much for trying to help!!!! Unfortunately, I'm afraid that it doesn't solve my problem .   I still don't understand why I never had this problem with CS2 (image were looking much better) and the color setting are the same.  Also, I don't understand why the image in CS5 doesn't look the same as in ACR.  ACR seems to give me a much better image and this is the image I want to open in CS5.   Even when I open my Jpegs that I processed months ago in CS2, they look much better in ACR than CS5. The image in ACR is the same as CS2.  How can we explain that!!  Could it be a display setting in CS5 that I need to change???
Wolf, see below some of my comments on your tips.  Thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything It's very appreciated!
Mary, welcome to the world of colour management.  Thanks!
Tip #1: if you are having colour issues you can be virtually certain that the problem does not lie with Photoshop or ACR. They are fully colour managed applications and understand colour far better than most users.   You are right, I wish I could understand it like them!!! hehe!
Tip #2: comparing colours between Photoshop and any other non-colour managed application is futile.  Yes I agree, I shouldn't compare with Windows Viewer, however, I think that my image in photoshop and ACR should look the same but they are not
Tip #3: turn off the Highlight indicator in ACR (click the right triangle in ACR's histogram).  Done but it doesn't solve my problem..
Tip #4: sRGB is a colour space with a very limited gamut and explains your "flat" look in Photoshop. sRGB cannot capture the vibrant reds captured in the (cute) child's sweater.   In CS2, even when using sRGB, the colors were vribrant and very nice!
    Try the following experiment:
In ACR save the file as an 8 bit sRGB (as you have already done). Then save as a 16 bit ProPhoto RGB tif file. Open both in Photoshop and compare. The sRGB image likely looks more muted especially in the red tones. (Ensure that you have your Photoshop colour preferences set to Preserve Embedded Profiles.)
Now take the ProPhoto RGB image and choose Edit -> Convert to Profile. In the Convert to Profile dialog click the Preview box and set the destination profile to sRGB. See the difference?  I did the experiment, but unfortunately it doesn't solve my problem   But I was able to see the difference between Prophoto RGB and sRGB!
What you were seeing in ACR was the ProPhoto RGB version and in Photoshop the sRGB version.
Another example with histogram and more details...
    Many THANKS,
    Mary

  • Unknown issue with CS5 (x32)

    Hello All,
All of a sudden I'm getting the following error when I open CS5 (x32) on my Windows 7 (x64) computer:
The procedure entry point__CFConstantStringClassReference could not be located in the dynamic
    link library CoreFoundation.dll
If I click on the "OK" button several times, Photoshop seems to come up just fine and everything seems to work as normal. I've searched the Adobe site and these forums for the "CFConstant.." string, but no hits. If I delete my preferences file, and then open CS5 (x32) it opens normally without issue. However, click File>Exit and then re-open the app and the same error pops up. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? It would be a royal pain to have to remove my preferences file every time I want to work in CS5 (x32)!
I'm running under Windows 7 (x64) with 9GB RAM and plenty of free harddisk space on my C: drive, if that helps.
Thank you for any insight provided.

What other plugins do you have?
OnOne Software has a tendency to install CoreFoundation.dll in the Photoshop main installation area.
What happens if you temporarily rename that file (e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\CoreFoundation.dll to CoreFoundation.disabled).
Does the OnOne plugin still work?  It might.  From what I gather it's a redistributable component that originally comes from Apple for doing multimedia.  It may be only installed by OnOne in order to provide a way to play their instructional videos (this is just a wild guess).
If it doesn't you can still rename it back to .dll.
