Issues loading lessons from classroom in a book

I am having problems loading some lessons from classroom in a book. Some work fine with others I get an error message that says there is a file import failure as the file format cannot be recognised. I have reloaded the lessons from te disc but the problem is still there is there an issue with the disc?
I am new to editing and find this most frustrating.

That is a project file, not a data (video or sound) file
When you copied from the DVD to your hard drive, did you copy with the complete folder structure, to a folder on your hard drive?
If you tell PPro to load a project file, and the various data files are not where the project expects, you may receive an error message
But, I have never worked with Classroom in a Book, so don't really know what the project files need to work

I'm new to Premiere Pro and teaching myself. One book I'm using is the Adobe Classroom in a Book Premiere Pro CS5, which has a sticker on it stating that it has "Free CS5.5 bonus content."
I'm trying to import one of the lesson files that is an AVI file but PP gives me a File Import Failure for this one file (MPEGs imported with no problems) stating "Codec missing or unavailable."
I opened the file in MPEG Streamclip and exported it using "Apple Photo - JPEG" compression. It imports just fine now.
My question: Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a one-time fluke or can I expect that other files on the CIB DVD may also require conversion to work on Mac?

Todd, thank you for the response. There were a few things going on, mainly about files that were not yet up at the Peachpit website specifically for the CS5.5 version of the book/files. In addition, there were some proofreading issues in the CS5.5 EPUB that is downloadable.
I received an email from someone at Peachpit who explained what was going on and pointed me to a link for downloading the updated files (4 or 5 GB of them). I've put them on my system, but haven't had a chance to use them yet.
So, with that background, I'll tell you about my system:
Mac Pro (MacPro3,1) with 2 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Xeon processors, 10 GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 supporting two 1920 x 1080 LCDs. I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and QuickTime 7.6.6 as well as QuickTime 10.0. Final Cut Studio 7 has been my editor of choice, but with the release of FCP X I decided to purchase the Master Collection CS5.5 and learn PP and AE. (I work at a University and got a discounted price for the MC so I decided to upgrade my Design Collection CS4.)
My apologies for WTMI (way TMI). Give me some time to get through the newly downloaded stuff from Peachpit. If I'm still having issues I'll post again. Thanks again for your offer to help.

Trouble loading dvd in Classroom in a Book

While trying to download lessons from dvd to hard drive in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 "Classroom in a Book" I received a message "DSC5680 cannot copy. Access is denied..Make sure disc is not full or write protected or that the file is not currently in use". When I went into the dvd folder, Lesson 4 I noticed that DSC5680 is a NEF file not a jpeg file. Would this be causing the problem and if so how do I overcome it? All the other lessons have downloaded on to the hard drive.

I am still trying to figure out how you got to the Premiere Elements Forum since yours is a Photoshop Elements or Adobe Press matter. The nef file will open for editing in Camera Raw ONLY in Photoshop Elements (of course given the Camera Raw plug in support). The installation of a Camera Raw plug-in will allow you only to import a raw or dng image into Premiere Elements (the video editor). The Camera Raw dialog needs Photoshop Elements for it to open in Photoshop Elements.
I do not believe updating the Camera Raw plug-in is at issue here. If it were, I would ask if you have a purchased copy or tryout . Purchased and tryout are essentially the same, but as Barbara Brundage pointed out in a recent thread here, you cannot update camera raw plug in in the tryout. That is the way I am interpreting what was attributed to her in:

This really sounds like a DVD disc issue so I agree with John T. Smith's suggestion which should provide a quick and easy remedy. Does the book supply the contact information on matters such as this? But, I would have thought that the Photoshop Elements Forum would have been the 2nd best place to take care of this.
By the way, when you open Photoshop Elements 11 Full Editor, go to the Help Menu/About Plug-ins/ what version of Camera Raw do you see installed?

Have you gone online to see if you can download some sample nef images? Then you can see if they will open in your Photoshop Elements 11's Camera Raw Plug.
A Google search should bring up several opportunities for you to try this idea out. Let me know if you need help finding such a link. Do you have a camera that shoots raw images? If so, have you tried editing them in Photoshop Elements Camera Raw?

Issue loading data from PSA to Cube

Hi Gurus:
I have a strange issue. My DELTA load to ODS from R/3 come thru fine. However, the load fails while moving
from ODS to the cube. The error is in 'Fiscal Year/Period'. It is a straight 1:1 map in update rules. If I bring the
data just to PSA there is no error. But when the data moves from PSA to cube, one record in each of the 2
packages the valiue of Fiscal Year/Period changes from "012/2009" to "015/2009".
Any idea why this might be happeing and suggestions on How can I move this data to cube?

Are you using or copying Busines Content in your start routines?
In the SD data extractors, the Fiscal Year/Period was provided WITHOUT a Fiscal Variant.
In the Start Routine, the Fiscal Variant was hard coded to "K4" (I think).
If you are using the code and a Fiscal Calendar other than the Hard coded one, you might get this type of error.
If so, consider setting the Fiscal Variant as a constant in the update rules.

Issue loading MC from library in MC Holder

I searched previous posts last week about this and learned that I can load a movie clip from the library in a blank mc holder similar to how I load an exernal swf. But so far that code is not working for me. I also need a way to close/make invisible the clip on user clicking an X.
I have a page with about 6 key words over which I will place invisible buttons. First button instance is named compworkBtn. I have a blank mc on the stage, name of mcLoadertop. My mc I want to play is in the library and named compworkMC. I read that I need to set the properties to export and I have done this (picture attached for compworkMC).
Here is my action script to load the compworkMC:

So first I need to get the thing to load.
Then I want the user to click on the X or close button and it goes away. I thought the easiest thing for this work be to program the Close button itself to drive the MC to a frame that had no content. It will still be there, of course, but not be visible. Then the user would click on the next key word and the next MC will load. Not sure that is a good solution though, because they will both still be there. So, I'd like a suggestion for another solution to unload the first mc and load the second one. I have done a similar thing with external swfs, but I will need a close button instance for each of the unloads, right?

If you look at the attachMovie() method in the help files they will explain most of what you need to deal with. The attachMovie method takes a minimum of three arguments..
attachMovie(id:String, name:String, depth:Number)
To remove a movie added using attachMovie you can use the removeMovieClip() method. That is also explained in the help documents.
As far as assigning functionality to that X button, you can do that after you have attached the movie via using its instance name... something along the lines of... (this is not a verbatum example, just the concept):
instanceName.btn.onRelease = function(){
removeMovieClip();

I'm stuck at Lesson 8 ( Classroom In A Book Photoshop CS6)

HI! I'm a beginner in photoshop and starting to learn everything from scratch. In Page 216 where you have to convert paths to selections is where i got stucked. I made the selection and in the operation area of selection dialog box, i selected subtract from selection and i click ok. It prompted 'Warnings: Pixels are not more than 50% selected.The selection edges will not be visible'. I'm not sure why as i followed the steps properly and did this few times. Anybody have any clue? Thanks!

It means that the remaining pixels are present, but more than 50% transparent.
Was your first selection feathered ?
With the first selection tool enabled you can see in the property bar if there's an entry for Feather.

Question about classroom in a book lesson 11 PS cs4

Hi, In lesson 11 of classroom in a book (Photoshop cs4) is a very little explanation about making a web site in Photoshop (looks like they where in a hurry to finish the book at the end). Did try to make my own web site but the problem I encounter is that when I make different pages from one design and save them in SAVE FOR WEB & DESIGN like home, contact etc. One page is overwriting the last page and the page get corrupted and the web site doesn't work when you click on the different buttons. Is there anybody who knows how to do this? Because the book is not helping here much and the help section as well. Making one page is no problem! I understand the slicing etc. The only problem I have is making a home page with 5 buttons
and 5 pages. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

Thanks! Yes I can work with DreamWeaver write and read CSS and XHTML, but that doesn't help me in understanding this lesson of Classroom in a book, because the lesson is delivered with the rest of the web pages already made and there is only one small example of using "SAVE FOR WEB AND DEVICES". When I try to make more then one page PhotoShop is overwriting the last saved file. So my question is: " can you only save one page"? Or what is the idea?!. When I import the index page in DreamWeaver the code looks like a mess your right about that for sure. And the slices are still all there. In Classroom in a book is no explanation about using it with DreamWeaver in this context and it's the worst lesson of the whole book.
Yes thanks about using sub folders I found that out yesterday by trying, isn't it strange that there is no mode to save individual pages???

What do you mean you loaded the lessons? They should just be sample files to follow along with the book. This likely has nothing to do with the issue you are encountering.
Do you get an error message when attemting to launch?

Hi all, I am a brand new student, so what I know about photoshop right now is virtually nill. I have the Adobe Photoshop CC classroom in a book. In the back of the book there is a key code to register your book at Peachpit.com. Upon registering the book, you are given lessons to download. I have done this. My problem is no device on my computer will allow me to view these lessons. I already have windows media player and real player cloud and neither one are allowing me to view these. I've already lost hours of study time trying to figure this out, does anyone out there know what I can do or know what I can download. On the RealPlayer cloud site they said WINDVD was a good alternative, this was not the case for me, it totally wacked out my computer putting me even further behind. Help?

Adobe Premier CS6 Classroom in a Book - Lesson 11.prproj

I bought Adobe Premier CS6 Classroom in a Book and am trying to use the lesson files that are on the CD.
At school, I have an iMac and all the lesson files load up perfectly, whether they are being loaded from the included CD or from the external 7200RPM Firewire 800 hard drive I have.
Yet, when I try to load the same prproj files on my Windows 7 PC, I get a pop-up error that says:
This project contained a sequence that could not be opened.
No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type.
It isn't just happening on one file. Some of the files open, but most of them do not.
Does anybody have any ideas on what I can do here?

IIRC, the CiaB files are MOV. Is that correct?
Do you have Apple's QT Player installed on your PC, and if so, what version?

Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 classroom in a book lesson files "file format not supported" error message

Hey y'all. I have the creative Suite cloud membership and am learning Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and have the latest update. I have an iMac, version 10.8.2 and have been going through the lessons 1-8 so far from the 'Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Classroom in a book' with no problems. So far so good. Then, when I opened Lesson 9 project today, I realized that certain media was off line (see pic below-videos and maps) even though I had been able to open the project. I tried to see if it was a link issue but was unable to select the 'Link Media' option and the system did not give me the option to link media when opening a new project. The strange thing is that I am now able to open some lessons with everything working fine but when I try to open other lessons such as lesson 9 or 10 or 11 I notice media files offline after getting the "file format not supported" pop-up error message when attempting to open a project. It's random as some lessons I had opened previously now give this error message of file format not supported when they didn't in the past whilst others work. I have deleted all the lesson files from my hard drive and reinstalled them from the cd onto my hardrive but the issue persists. Any idea as to why all of a sudden Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is giving the error message "File format not supported"??? when opening the lessons. I have not changed any preferences. I've included some screenshots though I don't know how much help they will be... Is anyone else running into this issue??? Can anyone help???
NEVERMIND. I FOUND OUT ON MY OWN WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND IS NOW FIXED. YAY!

Why were you trying to link a file in the project to the project file itself? Shouldn't it be a video file or something? Like .mov .wav .avi .mp4 and not .prproj

I am new to PS PS6 and purchased PS Classroom in a Book as a primer.
In Lesson 1 (using the 01B_Start.psd example) I am able to type and move horizontal text but when I follow the instructions (exactly as writ!)
to change the text colour, via a swatch selection, the foreground colour and the Optios Bar text colour swatch change, but the text that I typed and then selected to change (per instruction!) does not change from default black.
Can some one help me fix what I am sure is a trivial problem? No tech support over the week-end. The only time I have to do this!

Using your advice I can change the color of the text I inserted in the
Classrooom in a Book Adobe Photoshop CS6 Lesson 1 lesson (Page 24)
Following the instructions in the Book however, the text I inserted does
not change color.
The Book instructions are:
1. In ther tools panel, select the Horizontal Type tool (T).
2. Drag the Horizontal Type Tool across the text to select all the words.
(When I do this I select the text in a "box" as shown in the Screen Shot
below. It does not "highlight" the text in colour as your methods do.)
3. Click the Swatches tab .... and select a swatch.
The selected colour does appear as the foreground colour and the text
colour swatch in the options bar BUT THE TEXT DOES NOT CHANGE.
Is the book wrong or (more likely) am I making a mistake?
Really grateful for your help.

Trouble with Lesson 10 in Classroom in a Book for Photoshop CS6

I'm working my way through Classroom in a Book and have hit a snag on Lesson 10 (Editing Video). The problem occurs when I do the Add Media step. As stated in the book, I select the 9 files and click the Open button. However, contrary to the book, the video files do not show up in the timeline. In the layer panel, the video layers have a little yellow error symbol and the tooltip says that video footage is not available. Here's a screenshot:
I've repeated the steps several times and always encounter the same problem. Can anyone help?

First thing that I would do, while gathering the info that Mylenium has asked for, is to check your video driver (Mylenium's suggestion), to see if you have the latest driver for your card. Do this from the manufacturer's Web site, and do not trust your OS to tell you, if you have the latest. Note: if on a Mac, the video driver updates will be applied, when you update your OS - update the OS.

The CD comes with the book and the practice files are not downloadable (AFAIK - but I haven't used the book myself). You need to buy a new book from Amazon if you want the lesson files.
