Issues with Safari 3.0.1 for windows
Issues with Safari 3.0.1 for windows (at work):
Lenovo T60 with intel core duo T7200 @2.00Ghz plus additional monitor (Lenovo ThinkVision) in extended desktop mode running Windows XP Pro 2002, SP2
1. Taskbar is configured to autohide: when Safari is the top (active) window, it remains on top. If the taskbar pops up, it does so behind the Safari window, because I cannot see it.
2. If an open Safari window is dragged to the external (secondary) monitor, then maximized, it disappears to the side. It is not closed. I can still find it via Alt-tab or in the task bar and can, by right-clicking ‘Move’ from the taskbar use the arrow keys to move the window back into place. Clicking to reduce the window, then re-maximizing leads to the window disappearing to the side again.
3. In general my impression is that this does not function at a ‘beta’ level, but more of an ‘alpha’ level. Still very buggy.

This is a beta...thats why they give you the option to report probs via the bug icon. Since you are having these probs try and report them, I am not sure if apple has the time to scan these forums to try and find the big probs that people are having. So unless you report bugs, (and wait until the final realease) then they might never get noticed and or fixed.

Anyone else having an issue with TCP connections using iCloud for Windows?
Hi,
Before I asked this question, I did wait to see if any related questions came up, but none did, so I submit it now.
On my admittedly older laptop running Windows 7 64b Home, I've run into difficulties with the iCloud for Windows app to the extent that I had to uninstall it.
It would that, as my laptop was running, in the background, iCloudServices.exe would endlessly iterate TCP connections, which, while not actively sending or receiving any data, after some hours would number over 100 instances, taking up resources, and grinding my laptop's WiFi connection to a grindingly slow pace. I ended up, within the app, turning off everything, iCloud Drive and Photos, (I never used bookmarks), but still this would continue to occur.
I contacted Apple Support, explaining what was going on, and they stated they only dealt with IOS and gave me a Microsoft Support number. When I called Microsoft support, I came more and more to the realization that the issue was specifically with the iCloud for Windows app, as that was the only software that was endlessly creating and not closing TCP connections as it was. How was Microsoft supposed to solve an issue with Apple code?
So I called Apple back, whereupon they insisted it was a Microsoft issue. I explained other cloud services installed on the same computer were not having the same issue, it was unique to ICloudServices.exe. They stated they only dealt with IOS. I stated I purchased an iPad Air less than 7 months ago, and was trying to run iCloud in support of that. They again stated they only dealt with IOS, and suggested I again try Microsoft. I asked them if it was reasonable to expect Microsoft to solve issues with Apple code? They said regardless, there was zero support offered for anything having to do with Windows, and all I could do was uninstall the app, which I did, though that did not feel very satisfactory to me. My thinking is, if Apple writes a Windows app in support of their hardware, they should offer support for it.
Anyway, I was just wondering, is this an issue unique to me? or have others experienced a similar issue? I found this issue by opening the Windows Resource Monitor, looking under the Networking tab, and scrolling through the TCP Connections section to find 100+ concurrent iCloudServices.exe instances listed, whereas even Chrome, with multiple tabs and extensions, topped out at around 20.
My one month old Desktop, DYI, sports a solid Asus 1150 MoBo, i7-4790k cpu, 16GB Ram, and an EVGA GTX 970 video card. I list some specs only to illustrate this computer has no hardware issues in comparison to my long in tooth laptop. On this desktop, running Win 8.1 Pro 64b, at least as many, identifiably Apple, background service TCP connections are created even compared to Chrome, regardless of many tabs being open, many extensions, and even some related apps. Adobe does not even come close, though I run the full CC subscription. On this new computer, running Windows 8.1 Pro 64b, there are currently over 50 TCP connections and loopbacks that do not identify themselves, with just a - for the Image, and PID. With the experience on my laptop, I wonder how many of these are generated by Apple software, if not specifically iCloud software?
The frustrating aspect of these connections is they seem in no way active, While the Chrome and Adobe connections can be seen to be transferring data, as long as I am not running iTunes, or so have my iPad actually plugged in, it seems 99% of the time these iCloudServices.exe connections are just taking up ports, neither sending nor receiving any data discernable to me under the Processes with Network Activity, or Network Activity lists, both displayed in the same window as the TCP Connections in the Windows Resource Monitor.
Though I am fairly ignorant as regards coding, it seems as if there is no call to close a connection, very specifically, iCloudServices.exe, when it is no longer needed, and the next time a connection is needed, a new one is opened, rather than accessing the one previously opened. The only other reason I could imagine this might be occurring is if my Norton Internet Security software might mask and/or block the port after a certain time of inactivity.
Anyone out there have any ideas or advice about this? Thanks in advance. Thanks jared,
I'm still dealing with this issue through Apple. Some time after I posted this, I contacted Apple again. They did start a case up for me, as I was experiencing the same behavior on two different machines, with two different versions of Windows.
So far it remains unsolved. I've logged iClouds for Windows on my desktop, which is brand new, then logged for awhile after completely uninstalling Norton Security Suite, depending on the Microsoft security for some time, and finally logged after I uninstalled iCloud for Windows, restarted, installed a clean download, and connected using a completely different test account, which Apple set up for me. None of this made any difference. Looking at the logs, it seems every 10 minutes, iCloudServices.exe creates a new TCP connection to confirm I'm using less than 5GB on iCloud, (which I am by a good margin, using less than 2GB), it seems this connection is not closed, and when the next iteration rolls around 10 minutes later, a new TCP connection is created. I come very close to having 6 TCP connections created per hour, until I restart my computer. This works out to... 6 x 24 = 144/day.
Perhaps the article you posted will shed some further light on this. I'm thinking seeing the state of the connection through netstats, at the least, could help.
For the last week, I've been putting a hold on further logging, as Apple wants me to create a new user account on one of my computers, install iCloud for Windows there, and log it running in the other account. This however basically means I cannot use my computer for a fair number of hours, and I've been busy enough with work the past week that I haven't the time or energy to afford to set this up and run it. I've had need of my computers too much for the past week. -
Compatibility issues with AppleWorks 6.2.2 for Windows and Windows XP?
For several years I have used AppleWorks for Windows version 6.2.2 with Windows 98. This summer my school upgraded me from W-98 to W-XP.
On the new machine, I have found that text boxes in draw documents are locked and I cannot edit or move them or unlock them. I find that I have the same issue with an XP computer at home, but I can copy the same file to a W98 machine and everything works as it always did.
Apple says that AppleWorks 6.2.2. is compatible with XP, but I wonder if that is completely correct.
Does anyone have any insight?
ThanksI was trying to test this for you in AppleWorks 6 Windows XP in Parallels on my MacBook Pro, but each time I tried to open a draw file I had originally create on my Mac, AppleWorks 6 for Windows crashed.
I tried another, smaller draw document & it opens without problems & I can move the objects around. I'd suggest deleting the AppleWorks preferences, but I don't know where they are in Windows XP. -
Greetings everybody,
I have run into a peculiar problem with the Safari browser on mobile platforms (IPad, IPod, IPhone) which I hope I can find a solution for in this community.
I just launched a new website where I sell products with certain variations, for example please view this link: http://www.finerribbon.com/aegean-single-face-satin-ribbon.html
On this particular product, the product variants are supposed to work in such a way where:
If you select the value "1/8" from the "Choose Ribbon Width" field
THEN
The only options active and available to choose from in the "Choose Roll Size" field should be: 500 Yds, 20 Yds & Sample Swatch
Now, if we browse to the above link in Safari using a desktop or a laptop, there are no problems at all, but if we browse to the above link using an IPhone or an Ipad, then we have a problem where all the options are available regardless of the values chosen, basically the above functonality does not work.
I was told that there an issue with Safari in Iphones and Ipads where it does not recognize option disabled="disabled" tag properly, is this true? Can anyone advise me if there is a solution to this problem? I would sincerely apperciate it.
Thank you very much for your time and help!Hi...

Thanks to Mandeep5062 Acrobat Pro download issue with Safari
Before your response arrived I shut down Safari, loaded Firefox, went directly to the Adobe download page and attempted a download. The download started correctly and then switched over to the Creative Cloud downloader and I thought, "Here we go again". However, the process completed and installed the Acrobat Pro software as advertised. This might be a work around others can use that are having issues with Safari.
Win 7 either comes with a virtural XP machine installed, or it's freelly availible. I forget which, but this may be a simple solution to your issue.
Here's a link that might help:

Connection issues with Safari 3
I'm having some connection issues with Safari 3.
When I connect wirelessly, Safari won't load any web pages. I go and use Firefox and everything is just peachy.
I've reset Safari, emptied the cache and whatnot. I went in and checked the permissions, everything checks out.
When I connect with Ethernet, there's nothing wrong, which is my dilemma.
Help would be greatly appreciated. There are a number of posts in the Leopard forum from people with direct experience with upgrading from Panther to Leopard. Here is a relevant thread from there that should reassure you.:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1418714
Your system should be fine for Leopard, but you will probably need a current version of Photoshop if you don't already have it. See this download:
http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/leopardsupport.pdf
Also, Leopard doesn't run Classic (OS 9) apps.
One caveat - first make a bootable backup "clone" of your present system onto an external firewire drive so you can recover if anything goes wrong. You can use the "Restore" tab of Disk Utility to make such a clone, and there are also Panther-compatible versions of Carbon Copy Cloner (v 2.3) and SuperDuper (v 2.1.4), both excellent for this.
It's even possible to a create second Panther clone on a different external volume to create a "dual-boot" system, using that volume to continue to run old applications that you can't run with Leopard. -
Can someone please assist me? My Macbook pro is having issues with safari and after 5mins or so it's shuts itself down and reports the below

Back up all data, if you haven't already done so.
Select ▹ Software Update to install the latest Java update (if Java is already installed) or the Flashback malware removal tool (if Java is not installed under Lion), as well as any other available updates. Installing either of those items should clear the infection in most cases. You must update to the latest version of Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.7 before you can install the Java update.
The removal tool runs automatically in the background and is then deleted. Don’t look for something to click. If the malware is removed, you’ll be notified.

I just downloaded Safari 5.1.7 for Windows 7 and when I went to the YouTube page, it says that there is a missing plug-in and when I try to find a video, it shows this:
When I try to update the flash player, it only update my IE 9 and Google Chrome. I also have the lastest version of QuickTime and still doesn't work. Thanks for the suggestion - removing my adblock and reinstalling the
flashplayer solved the problem, working fine now with new adblock which
will go bye-bye before I do the next update (not a fan of resorting to

Having issues installing iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows 7 (64 bit).
Issues installing iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows 7 (64 bit). This install clobbered my previous version of iTunes. Error message is "service Apple Mobile Device failed to start". Cannot start the service manually even though I am the administrator of the machine. There is obviously some conflict that was recently introduced by a Windows update or in the Apple installation. I have tried removing iTunes and the AMDS (the Apple mobile device service) and reinstalling with the same error message.
Thanks for any suggestions you can provide!
MarilynHey there Marylin,
It sounds like you are unable to start iTunes due to this error message even after uninstalling the iTunes application and the Apple Mobile device. I would recommend uninstalling not just those 2 applications but iTunes and ALL its associated applications with the following article:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Odd font issue with Safari, iWeb
Ok, so I've been having this odd font issue with Safari for quite a while now, and I haven't been able to fix it. Some text on several different websites come up in a different font than the default font for Safari. I've tried changing the default font to something else, changing the text encoding and nothing. This has been happening with several releases of Safari.
Now, last night I discovered the same thing is happening with iWeb. Some of the text fields come up with the same font as the one in Safari! I don't even know which font it is. So somehow these are linked.
I'm at work right now, but I can get a screen shot of the font once I get home.
Any ideas on how to remedy this?Hi Tom, thanks for the response. I tried searching for those two fonts in my font book and they weren't in there. See below for screen shots of the odd text I'm getting:

If anyone can help resolve I'd greatly appreciate it. As much as I like Safari, this odd font makes me close Safari after a few mins of browsing =\ -
I've read of others having font issues with Safari 5.1 and Lion, but I still have Snow Leopard and am having an issue with some fonts showing as a block of As. This occurred when I set up Suitcase Fusion 3, but I did not touch any system fonts. I was able to solve part of the issue with activating Arial in the font manager, but some areas still do not reveal font, most notably, areas marked for username/password on forms. Any ideas? Btw, I do not seem to have a problem in Chrome or Firefox.
Thanks, Carolyn. I use a third party font manager but disabling it is not an answer for me. I put some fonts back into the user folder (never touched the fonts in the system library) and resolved SOME of the "A" issues, but not all. I have no problem in Chrome or Firefox. I've tried multiple solutions in the past couple days, including this fix for sandboxing conflict http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20087102-263/webkit-sandboxing-conflict-cau ses-safari-block-a-font-problem/ but then I got permission errors when I tried to change the file. I'm not even running Lion and I'm having this issue.

When accessing Intranet sites with that have SSL Certificates issued by our internal PKI, FF for Windows gives an error messsage - An error occurred during a connection to myshaw. security library: improperly formatted DER-encoded message. (Error code: sec_error_bad_der)
Chrome and IE work fine. This is a new PKI using the SHA-2 signature algorithm.Hi Guigs2,
From the other post you link too, I can confirm that both the Root and Subordinate CA have been commissioned with the:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CertSvc\Configuration\IssuingCA\CSP\AlternateSignatureAlgorithm = 1
registry key set. As can be seen above, the Signature algorithm on an issued certificate is RSASSA-PSS. This is been Microsoft suggested deployment IF you do not wish to support either XP or Windows 2003 machine and lower. In fact, I believe the option has been around since Windows 2008, however, there were of course, a lot more XP machines back then.
The obvious answer is that we would like to maintain the updated algorithm, AND see support for it added for Firefox. I think you will see a LOT more posts like this as people deploy more 2012 PKI infrastructure supporting only Windows 7 and up. Heavens, we may well be forced to Chrome or even back to IE!!! Whilst I do not what to necessary open up other potential vulnerabilities, for the sake of testing, what do you mean by disabling mozilla:pkix? -
I'm having a few issues with Safari, can anyone help?
Hello, all,
I'm having a few annoying little issues with Safari at the moment, hopefully someone can help and it'll be an easy fix, but I'm stumped at the moment.
1. Every time I close and quit Safari it freezes and I have to 'force quit' the app. Not the biggest of problems but it's a little annoying.
2. Once I open Safari back up it reloads with whatever window was open when I quit, even if my Mac has been turned off.
3. Safari is eating up a lot of my RAM at the moment. 'Activity Monitor' is telling me it's taking up between 2-6GB of Memory.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.Try a basic Safari reset.
Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. -
When using my web e-mail (Outlook web app) Safari frequently closes the page and says it must reload the page...then it errors-out. When this happens I must close Safari completely then reopen it, and reopen Outlook web app. My cache is cleared frequently (at least once per day). I am also unable to directly attach docs to e-mails - I must go the through the process twice. This never occured before Mavericks.
Any ideas on a solution...anyone else experience issues with Safari/Mavericks operations?Hello Cabamyk,
It sounds like you are having issues loading this web app for Outlook. I was thinking that there may be a 3rd party add-ons interfering with Safari or perhaps one may need to ge re installed. Use this article to help troubleshoot add-ons:
Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3230
Use the add-on's uninstaller, if possible
Quit Safari.
Remove any unsupported third-party add-ons you've installed (see if the add-on's installer includes an uninstall feature).
Open Safari again.
If these steps fix the issue you were having, check the website of the software's developer to see if there is an updated version available, or avoid using the add-on.Manually uninstall third-party add-onsIf the software doesn't have an uninstall feature, quit Safari and try manually moving the third-party add-on files. These files are usually installed in one or more of the following locations:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
/Library/Input Methods/
/Library/InputManagers/
/Library/ScriptingAdditions
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
~/Library/Input Methods/
~/Library/InputManagers/
~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder. The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
To access the Home folder in OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion, or OS X Mavericks, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library.
To access the Home folder in Mac OS X v10.6 and earlier, open the Finder and choose Go > Home. Then, click the Library folder.
If the issue is resolved by removing items from the above locations to a different location, return the items one at a time and test Safari. That way you can determine which item is causing the issue. Once identified, remove the problematic item and put the others back. Check for updates to the items that are found to cause issues, or report the issue to the add-on developer.Important: When removing items from the above locations, do not put them in the Trash. Instead, put them in a new folder or on the desktop while troubleshooting. If removing the item does not resolve the issue, you can put it back where it came from. In Mac OS X v10.6 or later, you can use the Put Back feature of the Trash to automatically put items back where they came from.Files that should not be removedThe following items should not be deleted from your system:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/iPhotoPhotocast.plugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Quartz Composer.webplugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin (Mac OS X v10.5.x only)
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/VerifiedDownloadPlugin.plugin (Mac OS X v10.5.x only)
Reinstalling the above plug-ins requires reinstalling OS X. Some application or system updates may restore specific plug-ins.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

I am having a issue with getting data useage alerts for my iphone 4s
I am having a issue with getting data useage alerts for my iphone 4s from AT&T. I do not download anything huge at all.
I looked into it and figured out that the phone dials out nightly at 12:29am every night. I went into my settings and went to general..about..diagnostics and useage..then diagnostics and useage data to see this. I then clicked don't send...but I am still getting useage alerts. Can anyone help me please...
ThanksHonestly, from reading the thread linked, they all come off as a bunch of whiney people that cannot be bothered to help themselves.
Little to nothing in that thread indicates an issue beyond inept consumers. Yes, I read several pages on the incessant gripes. Very few made any actual attempts to troubleshoot issues before whining about the "Apple issue" and those that did actual troubleshooting got their issues resolved.
So no, Apple has nothing to fix beyond a few specific devices that are experiencing hardware issues.
If you have actually put forth effort and done the basic troubleshooting, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement. Whining will get nothing accomplished.

I am sick of my Q10 - no update to 10.2, no apps, no point in paying for data
I have a pay-as-you-go plan for my Q10, which includes 6GB and a hotspot. All said and done, I pay $140 per month. I can easily terminate my plan and get a discount on an iPhone at another provider. I do not want to pay $700 for an iPhone. I origi
