It's 2014, but thoughts on the Classic MBP?

Hi all,
I'm a new mac user here, and I'm sorry if there is a similar post. I recently purchased a late 2013 rmbp (8gb ram, 256ssd). It's working quite well now, but I'm finding the screen is a nice bonus but not a necessity. I'm having some serious second thoughts about returning this unit for a classic mid 2012 mbp after reading some scary problems with the retina models. My main concerns are 1. chance of image retention issues, 2. non serviceable battery, and 3. no repairability. At the time when I purchased this machine, I had researched all these facts but convinced myself that I could just buy warranty and be covered (I was planning to buy Best Buy's geek squad plan). Now however, I'm worried that warranty would only help me by getting me a refurbished machine which once that happens, fufills the warranty contract (since the computer is "unrepairable").
I know that the 2012 non retina models use an older processor and are heavier. If I exchanged for a 2012 mbp, I would likely upgrade the ram and HDD to SSD (but it will be my first time opening a computer). My question is what is your opinion on the 2012 non retinas. Are they still a good option to purchase as they're already 2 years old? Also, has anyone had any experience with battery exchange with the new retina models? Should I just stay with this late 2013 rmbp and hope for the best?
This is a nice machine. I just hope I haven't been reading too much internet speak to spook myself out of this computer. (ironic I know that I'm posting)

I have a 2011 MBP and have no inclination or incentive to change.
If the less attractive display of the 13" non retina MBP suits you, There is nothg 'wrong ' with it. It does have the flexibility ti install your own RAM and HDD>SSDs. In addition id does have an integral DVD player/burner.
The decision is yours but I would recommend that you purchase Applecare if you keep the retina rather than the Best Buy option. Should repairs be required, Apple technicians work only on Apple products and the chances are much better that any repair will be done correctly.

With the newer Intel Macs, you have to run a Classic emulator such as SheepShaver, which requires you to extract the Mac ROMs from your older Classic Mac and then install Mac OS 9.
A related program is Chubby Bunny, which comes bundled with all of that included (google the term "Classic-On-Intel v 4.0.1 chubby bunny").

How do I install the classic environment?

I have an iMac slot loader that I got for my daughter. I have a retail version of OSX 10.2 installed on it and working fine.
I also have alot of games but they require the Classic Environment.
I have forgotten how to install the Classic environment! I think at one time, I had osX on there and Classic but I don't remember exactly how I got it on there if that was the case.
I have a retail OS 9.?.? but I don't think that is the answer. I am afraid if I boot to that disc and try to install, it will over write my OSX instalation with OS 9. That would prevent her from using the OSX games that I have for her.
I don't mind doing a complete new installation if need be because I have not started installing the games just yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I set these iMacs up all the time. I use a retail 10.3.2 or 10.4.3 installer and a 9.2.2 image or a 9.2.1 iMac dedicated installer to set them up. Archive and install will work for either just make sure to install OS 9 drivers if you format your drive in X extended (journaled).
I do the minimum install in X no language and no printer drivers.
The installer in 9.2.1 is white with a large orange 9 on it.
I have a ton of software for OS 9; Living Books, Kid Pix and Zoombinis being amoung the most popular.
I've made images of the CDs ( actually SMIs ) so the kids don't need the CDs to run the apps. These often get totally messed up.
Actually I have cloners of all these setups on various setups on my MDD G4 and use CCC to clone them onto the target drives. Often I'll have to use an install CD to get it to work anyway. Some of the more stubborn will require an in situ install with the CD.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
AirPlay Mirroring is supported on your Mac, but it needs OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
You have two possibilities:
1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion to upgrade to this OS X. Then, you will find the AirPlay Mirroring icon at the top right of the display, on the menu bar, or on System Preferences > Displays.
2. Keep OS X Lion and use AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com
Both options work properly, but I recommend AirPlay Mirroring as it doesn't need a third-party program

The "Photos" view has been replaced by the Media Browser.
Most applications will show you the Photos icon in the Sidebar, when you need to select photos in a file chooser dialoge. Mail, Safari, the iWork apps. See Terence Devlin's User Tip: How to Access Files in iPhoto

This might be a duplicate-I neglected to click submit-so am trying again.
Since I upgraded to v. 31, my location bar makes me type the address in exactly, or else it says not a valid address. I guess somewhere the awesome bar got lost. Also, my search box does not have any search engines listed at all. Back around v. 29 I added the classic theme restorer addon, but did not think that would have affected the location and search bars as it upgraded. Any help you can give me will really be appreciated. I have worked on this for days. At one, time the location bar was gone completely.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

I'm using 2 PCs, each with video files (.MP4) on their respective hard drives, and also one external drive with other video files on that I move between the two devices.
iTunes on one PC will (sometimes!) let me add video content from the external hard drive, which is clearly iTunes-compatible, because I can then copy it over to my iPod Nano. On the other PC, I couldn't load that same video from the external hard drive. But if I copied that same video on to the PC's internal hard drive first, then iTunes would let me import it. That was yesterday - now iTunes is refusing to load any files from the internal or external hard drive(s).
Any thoughts or suggestions, please?

So I tried copying the files from the external hard drive to a USB drive. I could import the video files from the USB drive!
So then I tried importing the same files on to my PC's internal hard drive again. I could import the video files from the internal hard drive!
So then I tried to import the very same files that failed to load on the very same PC previously. I could now import them!
I still can't import from the external hard drive directly, though.
I really don't think I like the process of importing things into iTunes very much... any suggestions on what's causing any of this behaviour would be very interesting.

My photo does show up when I click on "edit copy" or "edit original".
How can I correct that so that I can open up a photo from Lightroom WITH the Lightroom adjustments? Thanks!

I'm having a similar problem, but only with jpg's. I have PS CS6, CC, and CC 2014. Other image file formats function normally with regard to the "open with" list. PS CC 2014 appears on the list. But with jpg's only PS CC appears on the "open with" list and 2014 can't be added by the browsing for it.
The curious thing is that if I have any of the three versions of Photoshop open, click on Photoshop CC in the "open with" list, the image opens in whatever version is already open on my computer. This is true of all image formats. No matter which version I pick from the "open with" list it opens in the currently running program. I use only the latest version so keeping it open all the time is an easy work around. I won't uninstall any of the earlier versions lest more file association quirks result. it would be nice to have this matter fixed.

Unfortunately, you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forums.
However, there are many highly experienced volunteer users here willing to help.
Can you please clarify: are you saying that your Flood filter (whatever that is) is in your Bridge folder but not in Photoshop?
UPDATE: I Googled your Flood Filter and discovered it's not an Adobe filter at all. Have you contacted its manufacturer, Flaming Pear? What do they say?

I uploaded last release of CC (05/28/2014) but it did a mess on the entire pc: when I launched Photoshop it appeared a driver error on my graphic hardware; internet stopped to work and photoshop itself didn't respond.

Hi, this morning I installed last upgrade of CC (05/28/2014) but it did a mess on the entire pc: when I launched Photoshop it appeared a driver error on my graphic hardware (I checked, everything was up to date nd correctly working) and Photoshop didn't respond; internet stopped to work too.
The only way was to uninstall The CC App and create a restore point after uninstalling (It wasn't possible restore a previous one BEFORE the upgrade of this morning....)
My Processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4500U CPU @ GHz 2.40 GHz
RAM is 8GB
What do I have to do?
Reinstall it without upgrading it?
I would really appreciate that upgrades would be tested before being released.... -_-
