MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2010 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 with Mavericks is very slow
Hi everybody,
i have already seen this discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/message/24018625#24018625) started by campitor and allegedly solved by arthur but only for campitor's concrete case and already closed. Therefore I have made the same checkup with Etrecheck (see below). It would be really great to solve this problem because I need my mac for work and I am getting really desperate: it's just too slow for effective working. I am really desperate and really thankful for any kind of hint or help that could bring back my machine to normal workable speed.
cheers,
Cris

I have a mac computer 3.2 Ghz intel core i3 with memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, I have recently purchased an new macbook and have yosemite software and iCloud . I can no longer us my mac to open up recent numbers documents from my macbook. I am unable to upgrade to allow me to get the current numbers version on my mac. What do I need to do to get all my machines woking in harmony again
On each machine turn on iCloud and sync all the available apps. Apple explains how to set up iCloud in http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
After doing this run software update on each machine and install all the suggested updates. If you still need help installing the most up-to-date versions of iLife and iWorks open the Mac App Store - click the Purchased tab and update all that need to be updated. -
Bluetooth shuttted down after I updated to Mavericks, please help me !
I am 70 Years old and worked very happy with my iMac (21,5“ mid 2010, 3,2 GHz Intel Core 3)
until I updated him from SnowLeopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks 10.9.2.
2 Days all was OK. Next Morning-Start he needs (until now) 3 minutes to show me a SCREEN only milky white. After that he starts like ever with all ICONS in about 1 minute. (together 4 min.)
..But I must notice, that I cannot make anything, because the „BLUETOOTH APPLE WIRELESS KEYBOARD and the APPLE MAGIC MOUSE“ doesn't work anything like before.
I could nothing do, I must drop my APPLE only out.
That I maked ever 10x and all was the same... (Maveriks also 4x new updated)
I taked my Logitech-Bluetooth-Mouse from the WIN-Laptop, dropped it in USB from iMAC...and in one second I could work only with this MOUSE...I buyd the Logitech COMBO K520 and all was OK now with my lovely APPLE iMAC to work with him...But without APPLE KEYBOARD and MAGIC MOUSE...and with a 4 min. -START until now.
I asked the EXPERTS from APPLE-SUPPORT under Tel. 0800-6645451 in Germany, became a Number, maked many Things by starting new, but the mistake after all is the same like before.
When I look into ...Apple/ Info/System/ Hardware/ Bluetooth ..my APPLE says: NO INFOs FOUND (Es wurden keine Informationen gefunden.)
Under Hardware/ Diagnose : Selbsttest beim Einschalten: zuletzt ausgeführt: 15.05. 14, Ergebnis: Bestanden (that means OK) !!
I asked many Peaple, who sold APPLE-Computers in the STORS, but they all had no IDEA, how they can help.
I think, it could be a DRIVER when Starting the BIOS, JAVA RUNTIME a.s.o...
Is an Expert under YOU to help me by my Problem with this iMAC ?dietmarfromdeu,
if you start up your iMac in Safe mode, do you still have Bluetooth problems with your Apple wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse? -
21.5" 2.4 ghz Intel core duo with 4 GB memory iMac w/ OS X 10.5.8
my 2008 21.5" 2.4 ghz Intel core duo with 4 GB memory iMac is running OS X 10.5.8 and has recently started over heating and locking up .... even with applications that it has never had problems with before .... I don't think it's capable of being upgraded any further, right? can I upgrade the graphics card or is that even worth it?
Your tems are fine, nothing at all to worry about. One thing you can do is shut down the computer, remove the RAM plate cover on the bottom and vacuum out the air intake. As for the spinning beach balls that isn't a freeze it means a process is busy. You can run Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and when you begin getting SBBOD look in AM and see if you see any processes using a large %CPU and also click the System Memory tab and look to see how much FREE RAM is available at that point in time. As a general rule of thumb OS X likes to have 500MB or more of FREE RAM, if you see it's at or below 500MB then a RAM upgrade is needed or you need to reduce the amount of open windows. The graphic will look similar to:
Also I'd strongly recommend carefully reading the XLab's Spinning Beach Ball of Death article. It's an excellent guide on how to trouble shoot spinning beach ball issues. -

I have mac book OS X 10.4.11 model No.A1181 (processor 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo and memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). To which newer version can I update and how?
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and then, you should be able to use OS X Lion.
First, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup of your data, insert the Snow Leopard disc and upgrade to Snow Leopard.
The disc will install Mac OS X 10.6.3, so open > Software Update to install 10.6.8, the most recent Snow Leopard version.
See if your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If you see that it's compatible, call Apple to buy OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 Also, check if your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com -
When I connect my MacBook Pro to a TV (Thunderbolt to HDMI) no display is recognized and I am unable to mirror. I have a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 running OSX v 10.8.3.
You are being scammed. Please ignore and close. Do not click any links or call any phone numbers!

Hello
I have a BookPro 15 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB Ram, that's more slow after updating to X Lion 10.7.5
Is my hardware not good for this new OS ?
Can I upgrade my computer to Mountain Lion OS and make it faster ?Mountain Lion won't make it faster. It may not even be compatible. Speed has a lot to do with what is installed, installation of utilities that actually slow you down, such as MacKeeper, or any cache cleaning softawre. Installation of utilities that you don't need such as anti-virus or firewall software. Peer2peer software. Other devices sharing the same network can slow it down too, make sure your network is secure, and you know what is sharing the network. Some websites may be slower on Safari, and an alternative browser* is needed.

After updates to Pages and several other applications I received an update to Mavericks 10.9, all of which were downloaded and uploaded to my MacBook Pro. After the uploads I created a document in Pages which I saved to my folder. Now when I try to open it I get a message that says I need the latest version of Pages to open this document. What do I need to do to reload the last update to Pages so I can open my document?
In both cases you have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Judging from sterling r's response Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:
http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=3527487677f0c 6fa05b6297cd00f8eb9&mforum=iworktipsntrick
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Macbook pro 13" 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 with temp at 90degcelcius
Hi, i just got a macbook pro 13" yesterday, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7. I previously owned a 13" macbook pro also. However, my concern is that when i'm not using any applications and nothing is running, the laptops' temp goes up to 90degrees celcius. Why is this so? And I have to manually increase the fan speed to 6000rpm using smcfancontrol.. Please help.
If there are no applications open, then clearly something is wrong. Take advantage of you warranty and have the Apple technicians at the genius bar fix the problem.
You could run a Apple Hardware test just to see if you can pick up any faults. I would not be surprised if your MBP has a bad heat sensor.

One icon that appears is the one prompting to move it into the applications folder, along the blue one (flat box shaped, with the white Firefox icon, and a slot in the front, on the right side of the screen). I can't get these to stop reappearing.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I first downloaded the most recent Firefox (3.6.8)That should read "along with the blue one..."

Thunderbolt Bus:That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications of the machine.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test, if applicable.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
Otherwise, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you. -
I have hundreds of these large image files to process. I frequently use SKEW, WARP, IMAGE ROTATION features in Photoshop. I process the files ONE AT A TIME and have only Photoshop running on my IMac. Most of the time I am watching SLOW progress bars to complete the transformations.
I have allocated as much memory as I have (about 14GB) exclusively to Photoshop using the performance preferences panel. Does anyone have a trick for speeding up the processing of these files--or is my only solution to buy a faster Mac--like the new Mac Pro?I have hundreds of these large image files to process. Every new tab opens to the Ad-aware SecureSearch page. When a new tab was opened I used to get a page with my most used sites. I have tried to find and remove this program but nothing I have used will find it. I have downloaded some add-ons to change what occurs when a new tab is open but none of these will replace the Ad-aware search page. Can you tell me how to get rid of this. this is the address of the new tab page now:

This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and
then resets your search preferences and home page to their
default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the
search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

Why are the audio levels on a MBP so quiet?
I'm a musician and the MBP's low audio output has been problematic. I've been using it as my main workstation at home in favor of my G5 desktop from 2003... and even as I'm running through my external audio hardware, my MBP's maximum volume is drasti
