ITunes 10.4 & Multimedia Keyboard

Since I installed iTunes 10.4 for Windows (Windows 7, x64), I can no longer use my Multimedia Keys for Play/Pause and so on.
I have a Logitech Illuminated and tried all the usual tricks like mmkeys.dll, but nothing worked.
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

ITunes Not Working with Multimedia Keyboard... help?

I recently installed a new keyboard and mouse software, where the keyboard is a multimedia keyboard. Since that, I've been unable to get any SOUND from anything playing in iTunes, whereas the sound for my computer and any other audio/video programs works fine.
I've tried fooling around with the multimedia buttons on the keyboard, but nothing helps this..
Can someone help me? I want to get back to using my iTunes!

MS Natural Multimedia Keyboard & iTunes

When using MS Natural Multimedia Keyboard & Media Player, the Play/Stop button works okay. However, when using this button with iTunes, this happens:
iTunes is playing and is minimized. I press the Play/Stop button. ITunes stops (as it should), but also maximizes.
When I press the Play/Stop button again, iTunes plays for about 1 second, and then stops.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
I use XP Home.

Most likly you will have to goto Microsoft and download a update to the keyboard software to fix this issue.

Multimedia keyboard controls

Was using iTunes 7.2 for a while with no issues. The multimedia keyboard buttons (play, pause, skip forward, skip backwards) worked whenever another window was active. I upgraded to 7.5, and that is no longer the case. The only time those buttons work is when iTunes is the active window, which is useless, b/c then i normally just use my mouse. Oddly, i use the keyboard functions enough to where this is REALLY getting on my nerves. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

on a side note, i don't think apple's website should flag iTunes as being a typo.

i have the same issue. i run itunes in the background while gaming so i can't really tab out to switch stuff easily. i went to update my drivers but the button was greyed out which leads me to believe that it doesn't need updating. any other thoughts on this one? computer's new since the last version of itunes came out.

Logitech Multimedia Keyboard (key not working)

I got a new Logitech Multimedia Keyboard and using xbindkeys I got almost all the keys mapped.
There is one key, however, (the Messenger key) that does not seem to be recognized at all.
It does not show when I use "xbindkeys -k", nor when I use "xev" and there is no "action" whatsoever when I press this key. Yet, being the key there I should be able to map it.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how could I find out and/or map this key?
In all honesty, it is not just about the key ... I can just as well use key-combinations and get Gaim going, but I want to know why it is "invisible". I other words, I want to understand the problem.

If pressing a key doesn't do anything at all (ie, xev produeces no output), run the following command in an X terminal:
dmesg
You will probably see some lines like these:
Code: Output of dmesg
atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0x96 on isa0060/serio0).
atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e016 <keycode>' to make it known.
This means that the kernel doesn't have keycodes mapped to your keyboard's scancodes. You will have to add one line in /etc/rc.local for each missing key as follows:
File: /etc/rc.local
setkeycodes e008 136
setkeycodes e016 150
... And so on ...
Where the first number (e008) is what you see in dmesg, and the second number (136) is an unused keycode in your kernel. In general you can find a good keycode by taking the last 2 digits of this first number, converting it from hex (base-16) to decimal (base-10) and adding 128.
This will set up the proper scancode - keycode mapping every boot. To set them up without rebooting, run the following as root:
sh /etc/rc.local
After you have the proper mappings setup, restart X and try running xev again, to ensure that a keycode is displayed for each multimedia key you want to use.

the volume keys on keyboard work how ever the on screen thing that shows you the volume doesn't come up anymore it only shows when I use my mouse to control the volume.

Navigating the song list in iTunes - sleeting songs with keyboard

Hi,
i try to manually organize my itunes library and therefore want to select multiple songs in list view.
I know i can command+click in the list to select multiple songs (list entries) but i try to do it with the keyboard.
I can navigate the list using up and down cursor keys and it is possible to select some songs using the shift key (some songs in a row).
But how can i go through the list and just select some songs out of the list i am scrolling through?
I am searching for something like ctrl+space on windows when navigating trough lists using the cursor keys ...

Controlling more aspects of iTunes from an iMac keyboard...

Hi All,
I've recently switched to using AirPlay to control my home stereo with a Marantz AV7005 pre-amp, and using an Airport Express in my bedroom. I used to use Squeezeboxes, but really like the way that AirPlay works, and love the remote app on my iDevices...
Question: So from my iMac keyboard, can I control more then just previous track, play, and next track if I don't go into iTunes? I'd love to be able to control the remote volume, for example, without first going into iTunes to do it...
Any guide to this? I found the Apple page that shows shortcuts to controlling iTunes when you have it as the currently selected app, but my question is a bit different from that.

It would help to know the exact computer you have. For instance, on my MacBook Pro, the keyboard offers function keys that perform some of the basic iTunes controls. Depending on your computer and keyboard, you may or may not have something similar.
I think there a few third-party apps out there that will also do this. I believe I used to have iControl, which worked fine. (I no longer need it with the new MacBook.) You might also find this helpful: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20021121043446531

ITunes with Microsoft Media Keyboard

I have a Microsoft Media Keyboard, when I press the "next track" or "previous track" media keys, Itunes skips two tracks instead of one - this doesn't happen with other media players. It works correctly if I click on the Itunes player buttons or use the left and right cursor keys. Any suggestions please on how to get Itunes to skip just one track at a time? There are no options in the keyboard's settings or in the Itunes options to do this.

I am trying to find out how to control Itunes 10 with my G15 keyboard while Itunes is in the background. It used to work in previous versions but has since stopped responding unless it is in the foreground

there is a .dll you can download that will make it work, but after 15 mins, it stops working. Used to work fine with older versions of itunes, so it's not the windows update.

Pausing ITunes Playback Using The Keyboard

When playing a song in ITunes, I can stop playback by moving the mouse over the pause button in the top left-hand corner of the ITunes window, and left-clicking. How can I accomplish this same action using the keyboard?

I use a wireless keyboard and mouse and want to use the multimedia keys on this keyboard. How do i add keyboard shortcuts in 10.5.5?

ITunes quits when using keyboard

I have an issue with iTunes with just one of my computers. Every time I use the keyboard iTunes shuts down. I realize there must be some sort of conflict going on but I don't know how to diagnosis or correct. I have removed and re-installed iTunes many times to no avail.

Because you are having unexpected quits and there is a chance the keyboard file is corrupt. It's a troubleshooting step. If it doesn't make a difference, well then you can rule out the keyboard as the source of the problem.
If that doesn't solve the problem, try disabling the keyboard shortcuts listed in the Keyboard and Mouse System Preferences pane.

Unusual problem: crashes repeatedly in itunes after latest ?keyboard update

Not wanting to divulge my sleep pattern too much( ),
I go to sleep at night by leaving the computer on, unplugging it and turning on itunes and the visualiser and letting it play a song on repeat. The computer is in full screen mode and it used just turn itself off when it ran out of juice.
Recently. since the last update, it crashes about 5 mins into this - the visualiser crashes, and the music hangs, playing the same chord dum dum dum dum dum dum dum.
The computer is totally frozen and the only shutdown option is keeping finger on the power button.
I went into settings and fiddled around with the power management settings to no avail.
Is there anything I can do?

I did do a search first, and did not see anything current on Mavericks, except for some launch issues. The vast majority were on Windows boxes and did not appear applciable.
I don't consider this a launch issue because sometimes iTunes will run for hours and then crash. I am going to experiment with turning off auto-refresh of podcasts and see if that gives any clues.

I have several physically challenged Dragon Dictate (MAC) and Dragon Naturally Speaking (PC) users asking for custom Dragon commands which will allow them to control iTunes by voice.
Has anyone created Dragon macros for iTunes? Does anyone have a list of keystroke commands for iTunes?
