ITunes 10.6. Cover art taking CPU power

Can somebody (who can see cpu percentages) try this:
-open iTunes (10.6.) and use the last option in the right showing cover flow + list of music underneath
-play random
-put iTunes in the miniature mode (green button) and press forward (next piece) for about 10-25 times
-look at the CPU percentages - they go high! -at least for me
When I press the green button again (open window), it seems the cover flow is stuck and it starts to look for the right cover.
Anybody else with this problem??

Hate to say it, but I'm having the same issue with the Mini Player after updating to iTunes 10.6
For years now I have enjoyed waking the Mac, clicking the play button on the Mini Player and resuming where I left off.
At this point I really don't have an answer and I'm still trying to sort out what has changed..?
The strange part is that everything else is working as expected, except that after a short period of time (sometimes after 2, 3 or 4 Albums) the CPU usage for iTunes jumps up to around 50 or 60% just like you have described. Even weirder is the fact that when I switch back to the normal full size Cover Flow window, the CPU usage instantly drops back to normal.. After trying a bunch of different stuff (restarting, repairing permissions, etc...) and playing around for awhile, kind of chalked it up as a beg or malfuntion between the Mini Player and Cover Flo same as you.
One work around that seems to be working for me is, I have switched the main iTunes window from Cover Flo to (boring) List view and now the Mini Player seems to be fine.
Other than that, at this point our best hope it to contact iTunes Support and send Feedback to iTunes.

  • ITunes not finding cover art

During the process of ripping my CD's into iTunes on my new Mac Mini I am frustrated by the fact that iTunes cannot find cover art for multi million selling albums from Metallica, AC/DC, Queensryche, and other obviously popular artists. Cover art that is easily found by Windows Media Player on my Dell PC. What is the problem here? It is not like these are obscure B sides or anything like that. Any solutions to this problem would be appreciated.

Well, I got the artwork back by opening the first track (sometimes it had to be the second or even the third track) with CMD-I then clicking ok.

  • ITunes 10.6 Cover Art for Movies Missing and Wont Redownload

After the upgrade to 10.6 all my cover art disappeared on my movies. When I right click and ask it to redownload nothing happens

I have just encountered this problem as well.  When I clicked get info on the 30+ movies that my artwork disappeared on only about 7 repopulated.  I then quit itunes and restarted my computer and the rest of the movies are still blank.  All the info is in the get info section including the artwork but it will not show up in my library.
Any new ideas on this subject?

  • Recent itunes convert, organizing, cover art, etc.

im trying to gather as much best practice info about ripping large quantities of my cds to mp3 using itunes. ive previously used other windows or opensource apps in the past, and the folder organization can always be counted on (but unlink itunes, they dont download cover art).
also, ive run into a few situations where a popular/recent album is unable to find cover art. is there also some sort of best practice that covers getting the highest probability of it actually finding the right cover art? (ive also had some movie soundtracks pull the wrong cover art too)

Ok, Richsadams et al: I think I have all this artwork missing problem figured out, here is how.
We just need to chill out and simply wait. They will all eventually show up there on their own. It took me few hours to realize all that, but it is true, it will be there on their own, as long as you have them in your pc/mac library hard drive.
Thanks all for the replies. This is a brand new service, and of course it will have its problems at the beginning, especially when millions of people do it at the same day. At the end, we'll all be happy with iTunes match and iCloud, I know it! Especially streaming all your iclouds library via Apple TV is simply awesome!!
I’m not sure how "waiting" would have helped in this case.  Had I not been proactive, the cover art would still be missing.    Overall the service is still "buggy" IMO and users shouldn't have to wait or go through some pretzel logic to resolve problems.  If it were one or even a couple of issues that’s one thing...but this did not go well on a number of levels.
I understand "early adoption" caveats, but based on numerous posts here and elsewhere, this was not a pleasant experience for a lot of folks...with many still struggling to get things back on track.
We have admittedly been spoiled by Apple's usual high standards.  However with all of the issues with the rollout of iOS 5 and now iTunes Match, recent events have been very disappointing.  Apple has previously set the customer experience bar very high and almost always met or surpassed it.  These past couple of fairly major events felt rushed and unpolished.
I'm the first one to come to Apple's defense and will continue to do so, but this experience has soured my outlook on Apple's ability to continue to deliver at their previous levels.  I hope they are able to regroup and learn from this because I truly want them to succeed and stay on top.

  • Album with mixed artists is being split by iTunes and loses cover art?

It's got different artists for each track, and the album is split up and the cover art goes when put onto iTunes. How to fix?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Why is it that I upload The Wall into my iTunes and the cover art is never recognizable?

Seriously! I'm anal about having cover art...and there is no longer the option to upload an internet photo. What do I do? I even try calling it other album names and it refuses to recognize any Pink Floyd.

there is no longer the option to upload an internet photo.
Find the cover art for The Wall on a website.  Right-click the track, Get Info, and open the Artwork tab.  Drag the art from the web page to the space on the Artwork tab.  When you are done, click OK.

  • When I download a movie from iTunes the cover art disappears. I try get info and add the art, it doesn't show up. So it's just gray. It opens and plays fine. Apple can't figure it out. It's an nas drive. When I use a firewire drive I get the art

When I download movies from iTunes to my NAS drive, I don't get the cover art. It shows up while its downloading, but when it's finish it disappears. If it has an iTunes extra the cover art is there. I tried get info and add the cover art, it never shows. Regardless of how I add it. Funny thing is, if I download the same movie to my external firewire drive, no problem its there. I've called Apple with no success. I've even tried copying the movie with the art from the firewire drive to replace the file on then NAS drive I still loose the movie cover art. I also tried several times to re download it, no luck. Any ideas? I'm out of ideas.

Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?
In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown?

  • Wrong Cover Art in iTunes 7.x.

I let iTunes find the cover art for songs that I haven't gotten it for already and am now scared to death that it has replaced others that had art. As I have encountered the songs that iTunes picked the art for and it's way off. The songs are completely and accurately labeled and still I get "Three Burials OST" for "The Big Chill OST"
    What is this all about?

You can tell iTunes to "Clear Downloaded Artwork" to get rid of the wrong image.
Getting iTunes to select the correct image, especially for compilations can be quite frustrating. I've been slowly cleaning up some old artwork from when iTunes could not pull artwork from the iTunes Store for music from other sources. I've learned to check the album in question by using the iTunes Store link in iTunes - I figure if it goes right the the album I'm all set - Wrong! Today I'm doing battle with a bunch of "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection" albums. I can go through the album song by song and every one goes right to the correct album - but when I "Get Album Artwork" it still may not find the album or will pull in volume 2 instead of volume 1, etc. I've tried making sure my albums names are exact matches to the iTunes store with the same bad results.
It really seems like iTunes uses a different search method for artwork than for the iTunes Store link. At least Google has an image search...

  • MAJOR Cover Art bugs in iTunes 7.x.x

Here are some interesting observations in discovering MAJOR Cover Art bugs in iTunes 7.x.x
    1. Importing CDs
If you import a CD, you must wait for complete import to finish in hopes that all songs will populate successfully with cover art. Even here, success is random.
If you request cover art during the import, there are mixed results.
iTunes should be smart enough to detect if any album exists with partial cover art in the library database, then those tracks with missing cover art will be automatically detected and updated.
    2. Missing Cover Art
    This occurs on 2 levels:
    a. iTunes Store may just not have cover art for some (older) albums
    b. iTunes Store does find the cover art, but it is not applied to *all tracks* on the album
    The workarounds bring mixed results.
I have resorted to the "Get Info" approach and pasted cover art to random album tracks where cover art was only partly applied by iTunes.
In other cases, I scanned in the CD cover and applied it to albums where iTunes found no cover art. I assumed this would be a one-time fix as I expected some minimal tweaking would be involved in managing cover art.
No such luck! Here is why iTunes cover art represents a MAJOR bug in version 7.x.x
Day 1: I spend many hours tweaking and fine-tuning the cover art, assuming iTunes will "save" all my work. I browse different albums/tracks and everything looks great!
Day 2: Looks like iTunes only "saved" some of this effort. Sure enough, certain complete albums and random tracks from other albums now show NO cover art! How frustrating!
    * * * Here is what is MORE DISTURBING about this Cover Art bug! * * *
I resort to thinking about more workarounds, and here are the results:
Hmmmm. Looks like if I paste in the Cover Art twice on certain album tracks, the Cover Art is now applied to that track. Meaning, if you do a "Get Info" on a track, you will see two pastes in the Cover Art tab, yes, you add the cover art twice, one cover next to the other so as to force that album track to get the cover art to attach. On the surface, this seemed to work, and all album tracks now seem populated with Cover Art and the effort appears "saved" when I revisit the album on Day 2.
But all is not what it appears. The trick of adding missing cover art twice, in the hopes that an album and/or certain random album tracks might adopting the cover art you are trying to assign will produce the following:
IT ACTUALLY AFFECTS THE AUDIO TRACK!!!!
Multiple attempts to add/fix cover art will ADD TO TRACK DURATION, such that when you play a track, the lead-in portion of the lyrics (say first 10 secs or so) will REPEAT in as many times as you tried to add the cover art!!!!
Thinking this might be a corrupt library database, I even deleted the database, started over, and while adding missing cover art, was able to reproduce the lyrics repeating on those tracks where the cover art was added (pasted) twice. You can HEAR and see the increased track duration in iTunes 7.x.x
MAJOR Cover Art bug!!! So you are not alone. And besides all the wasted hours trying to fix this, I say wait for iTunes 8.x
Please post and let me know if you have had the same experience with this cover art bug and similar workarounds.
C'mon Apple! PLEASE FIX THIS. What gives?

  • Missing cover art from iTunes on iPhone

Some of the albums on my iPhone (bought via iTunes) are missing their cover art. On my iMac all the albums in iTunes have their cover art. When I sync the iPhone on my iMac, the cover art doesn't update on the iPhone! The iPhone iTunes cover art used to be there, some of them were even bought from iTunes while on the iPhone.
Can anyone please please let me know how I can update all the cover art for albums on my iPhone?

I remember reading about something similar on the AT & T forum, http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=apple&message.id=94023 &query.id=478736#M94023

  • Album Cover art

I like the idea of being able to browse using cover art but it is only a useful feature if you can get most cover art . There are many albums for which iTunes has album cover art, albums which I own original copies of, for which I can't get album art.
Examples: Sigur Ros /Saeglour, T-Bone Burnett /True False Identity, Paul Simon/ Surprise, Graceland, all of Van Morrison's albums, most Dylan and Neil Young albums and many others.
Apple put this feature on I Tunes, but many album covers which you show on the Itunes store website don't download. I have both checked "automatically download missing album artwork" in preferences and requested Get album artwork in the Advanced Tab . If I control click on the album artwork on iTunes store, I can't even copy the image to paste it in manually. Also, when I request album art I often get an "unable to download certain artwork " message with no further explanation. If I'm supposed to buy the album art I'd like to know how and how much.
    What's up?

The spelling was ok since almost all were entered using gracenote. Anyway it suddenly started working. without changing anything I could tell I asked again to get album artwork from the Advanced tab and it started downloading 400 album covers. whatever. So my problem wasn't answered but it is solved. thanks for the google image search idea. So I guess I'll mark it answered.

  • Cover art direct to iPod

Is there any way I can get iTunes to add cover art to my iPod rather than just to the iTunes library and then having to upload all the tracks onto the iPod again?

Hmmm... well I guess I am glad that it's not just me, but that makes no sense at all. I can't think from a technical point of view why that would be the case. The iPod itself has all the cover art stored, so why in the world would iTunes not be able to display it?
Sounds more like a bug to me.

  • Airtunes and Cover Art

iTunes (v8) is running on my MacBook (OS X 10.5.6).
When I use airtunes to play my iTunes music from Macbook to the Apple TV (selecting the Apple TV as the speakers in iTunes) it does not display the cover art on the Apple TV. Music plays, and it shows the artist and track name, however the cover art is blank.
All of my iTunes music has cover art and is in Apple lossles format (.m4a).
    What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at.
I have iTunes running on my Macbook. When I play music on my MacBook, in the lower right corner of iTunes I can select the speakers I want the audio output to. I can select computer (local), airport express, Apple TV or any combination.
When I select the Apple TV, audio output from iTunes comes out of the speakers on my TV (where Apple TV is connected). On the TV it also shows the track info of the song playing and a progress bar. Unfortunately, it just shows a generic "musical note" symbol for cover art.
I'm assuming iTunes is also sending the track into, otherwise how would the Apple TV show the track info? Because Apple TV is showing an empty cover art image I'm also assuming it's supposed to send that too. What's wrong?

  • Cover art vanishes

    Hi-
I just bought an iPod touch - when I plug the ipod in and sync music, iTunes removes the cover art that I downloaded for ripped CDs or purchased from the itunes store. All I see is a black box next to the album on ipod and a blank spot on coverflow. The artwork is still in itunes. I've cleared the artwork in itunes (ver 8) and redownloaded - it still arbitrarily removes some of the art.
    Help!

*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

  • Music cover art problem

I just recently got a new computer and new iPod touch, I am getting messages stating that iTunes cannot find the cover art for over half of my albums, and another quarter of those that it does, gets the wrong cover art. For example, Disney's Enchanted doesn't get any cover art, and the soundtrack for "A Walk to Remember" gets the cover to "Top Gun". The soundtracks for both Blues Brothers movies gets covers from Aretha Franklin music and iTunes cannot find cover art for any of the Star Trek movies.
Since this is with a completely new computer, new iPod, and first time creation of an iTunes library, I am at a loss to find how to correct this.
Any ideas what can be done?

I would like to bump this since I'm having the same problems. iTunes 7 got them all but the new is messing up simple stuff, like Weezer's Blue and Green albums.
