Itunes 10.7 won't open on windows xp

Just installed itunes 10.7 on my PC. It seems to be installed ok, but when I click on it the hourglass appears briefly then disappears. Nothing happens.

Can you check something for me please?
Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?

Are you trying to transfer the GarageBand projects or the rendered audio files? What version of GarageBand do you have on your iPhone?
I do not think you can share your GarageBand projects from your iPhone to GarageBand on your Mac, unless you have iCloud, afaik, only the audio files.
How did you transfer the song?
To share from an IOS device the Projects or audio files, see:  Share GarageBand songs

  • Itunes downloaded but won't open on Windows 8

I just purchased a laptop with Windows 8 and Itunes downloaded fine but it won't open.  It says "Itunes has stopped working".  I have a Sony Vaio and my previous computer was a Sony Vaio so I know it should be working.  Any tips or advice on what to try?

If that doesn't solve things then for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • ITunes STILL won't open on Windows...help please?

    So, I am pretty frustrated.
I downloaded the lastest version of iTunes 7.2 a few days ago, and after installing it, I kept getting Symptom B as mentioned in the announcement above, "If iTunes 7.2 won't open or stay open on Windows..." posted by Roy B: my iTunes library gets updated after opening iTunes but only gets to about 80% until it becomes unresponsive and I have to close it. I tried the suggested solution one, but then as it's importing, it freezes and becomes unresponsive again. And I would try solution two, but I don't know how to revert back to the last version I was using if it's been replaced by the faulty one...Please help, I'd greatly appreciate. Thanks!

Which version of Windows do you have? I have a similar problem ... "iTunes has stopped working". I have some diagnostic info in my windows logs if any one could use them?

  • TS1717 iTunes won't open on Windows 7

iTunes won't open on Windows 7.
Error message says MSVCR80.dll is missing.
Re-installing iTunes over the top didn't work, it couldn't get passsed a mobile devices error. Any thoughts anyone?

    Howdy rtih,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after a recent update. I suggest the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • ITunes 11.3 won't open

    iTunes 11.3 won't open on 13" Mac Macbook Pro mid 2012  OS X 0.8.2

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari, iMail, iTunes, and Dashboard won't open

A week ago, Safari, iMail, iTunes, and Dashboard won't open but other applications will, like Mozilla, iPhoto, Word, Excel, etc. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get Safari and the other programs to open? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi, I'm replying to myself to add more information on my case. I wasted half my day yesterday trying to fix this, looking into forums and trying to talk to people about it and there it absolutely no answer. Yesterday I installed the programs necessary to sync my phone in my wife's macbook and nothing bad happened. So I'm guessing it isn't about the phone plugins I installed. I've tried to download combo updates but they crash as soon as I try to install them - I even tried to install a 10.4.10 update.
This is the error message I get:
    Command: Installer
    Path: /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer
    Parent: WindowServer [114]
    Version: 2.1.9 (104)

I put part of in on google to check if there was anybody discussing anything related and someone suggested - bizarrely enough - updating adobe reader. I did it just in case and, of course, it didn't work. I repaired permissions a million times already, I rebooted in safe mode, I scaned the computer with apple jack, I verified the disk with diskutility - which showed nothing. I tried downloading an anti-virus (ClamXav), but I couldn't open it also, I trashed my prefs, I deleted all internet plugins, but still.... nothing. I'm about to quit and take it to the very expensive - yet reliable - authorized tech support apple has in Rio. Any ideas, anyone?

  • ITunes 10.7 won't open some Libraries

I just noticed that iTunes (10.7) won't open some of my libraries. I have 5 that I use for various purposes. The main one with all my music is now grayed out. Only 2 out of the 5 will load, and they are not the most important ones, so I am kind of stuck.
A few weeks ago I upgraded from Leopard 10.5 to Mountain Lion 10.8, then got an iPhone 5, but iTunes worked for a while after the upgrade and I put some songs on the iPhone.
I just got the fix for iPhoto 4.9 which was causing it's own problems, and now iTunes isn't working. (Actually it wasn't working when iPhoto had problems too.)
So what can I do to fix this? Delete my library files and start over just when I had it all set up for the iPhone? And will it happen again?

A valid iTunes library has a file called library.itl  The .xml file is a copy in a different format put there by iTunes so other programs can read the library, but itunes itself uses the .itl file.  So in essence the folders with no .itl have no library.  You can create a blank library by holding down the option key while starting iTunes.  Now import the .xml file from one of those orphan libraries.

  • XCode 4.6.2 Won't open any window when launched

    Hi,
I have been running Xcode On OS X 10.7.5 for quite a while without any problem. Launching XCode I had an update request to which I agreed. After the update lauching the XCode won't open any window. I have seen that there were similar problems but on previous versions of XCode.
I deleted the application from Mission control and dowloaded again from the Mac App Store. Lauching XCode still won't open any window. No freeze, no error messages, the applications sits in the dock and is marked as open, but now window appears.
    Your help would be welcome.
    Regards.
    Alain.

    Hi,
I am going to reply to my own question.
The main Xcode Window didn't open by default as I was used too, but had to be selected from the windows menu.
    Too simple I guess!!!!

I update my iPhone in iTunes, and after some time, opened a window saying "rosolvendor conflict" and asking me to choose, giving me two options, showing the name of a friend who also has an iPhone.
    Can anyone help me?

    Dear Tim,
I saw your message. Below are the problems:
Whenever I connect my iphone 3GS to my PC through a USB. My itunes software comes up automatically.
    1. After that a message appears from the itunes that states that 'itunes could not connect to the itunes store, an unknown error cccured (306).
    2. After the above, an alert message comes up which states that A new iphone software version 5.1 is availlable for my iphone. It then states would you like to download it and update your iphone now? With the options buttons as Cancel or Download and Update or Download Only. Whenever I clicked on Download and Update or Download Only, the next message that comes up is that The iphone Software Update Server Could not be Contacted and suggest make sure your network setting are correct and active or try again later.
The above is the challenges I am facing now.

  • IPhoto won't open any windows...

I recently upgraded my Early 2008 MBPro to Lion. When I launch iPhoto, it doesn't open my library. In fact, it won't open any window but the preferences. I've reinstalled iPhoto with absolutely no luck.
My library package is still there, and accessible from the finder. How can I get iPhoto working again? Is there a way to manually reconnect the library to it?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • ITunes 11.1.1 won't open on Windows XP

this morning I tried to sync new music into my iPhone 5, but I guess since I just updated to iOS7 I had to update to the new itunes, so I did but now the latest version of iTunes won't open up on my Windows XP. Uninstalled and reinstalled and still, nothing. Thought about reinstalling the last version but it would be quite redundant considering the fact that the only way I can sync new music into my phone would be through the new version of iTunes. any solutions to this?
