ITunes 10 no longer recognizes my my iPhone4, wants me to set up new iPhone

My iPhone4 has been synced with my computer several times over the past 6 months. When I plugged it in today to upload new music and update to OS 4.2, it tells me "this computer has previously been synced with an iphone or another ios device."
It also says the last backup is from my iPhone 3G from over a year ago. Bogus! Obviously I don't want to wipe out everything on my iPhone just to update the OS, but I should be able to sync as I please no problem, right?
I did some research of my own and couldn't find a solution.
Please Help!

This has happened to my regularly with my iPhone4 since launch day and my iPad.  In both cases sync will work once or twice and then it gives that same message and claims not to know the device.  Redoing the whole thing which completely screws up apps/folders gets it working again but then after maybe a month or so it won't work anymore.  Not sure if it's tied to ITunes app updates or IOS updates but I tried many things and once in a while rebooting the computer and the IOS device worked but other times it did not.  My new Android tablet is working flawlessly in this regard but it's only a month or so now so I'm holding back on judgement... that said the USB input on the other device and SD card slot have sold me pretty hard so if it keeps syncing fine that will be my new "iPad" but I'll keep the phone till end of plan.

  • I recently upgraded iTunes to 11.1.4.62 and then itunes would no longer recognize my iphone 4s and iPod

I recently upgraded iTunes to 11.1.4.62 and then itunes would no longer recognize my iphone 4s and iPod although I can see the iphone but NOT the iPod on the computer (windows 8.1 Pro).  I checked everything , cable, services, stop and start and automatice, etc.and went through all the steps on the apple support site, to include removing all apple software in the designated order and reinstalling it.  iTunes still doesn't see the iphone.
The Apple iPhone shows up only under protable Devices in the Device Manager window and has a Yellow ! warning triangle, and there is no Apple USB controller in the devices menu.under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. When I look under the properties of the Apple iphone, it says in Device Status, to reinstall the drivers for this device (Code 18).
When I do this,  I get the following: "Windows found driver softweare for you device but encountered an error when attempting to install it" Apple Mobile Device Driver One of the installers for th this device cannot perform the installation at this time. I tried both suggested locations on the C: drive.
Also I can't seem to find out how to install the Apple USB Contoller or is that related to the problem above?
The iphone and my ipod work fine with this version of itunes on Windows 7 on my laptop.  is it possible that I am missing a critical update from Microsoft on the driver and USB controller?  I have been leery of installing them since my computer had problems with some updates in January.
I 've tried every thing listed in this forum, I think, and the Apple support page on this subject.  Please help!

Version 11.1.5.5 of iTunes was just released today. If you update to that, does that help with the recognition troubles?

  • Can I use iTunes to download iOS 8.0.2 once and then install on multiple new iPhone 5S we have at work?

Can I use iTunes to download iOS 8.0.2 once and then install on multiple new iPhone 5S we have at work?
Our 30 new iPhone 5S came with iOS 7.1.1.

The fact that the OS requires 3.8GB of storage is ridiculous to begin with.  Especially when they know there are a ton of 16GB models out there.  Clearly another big brother attempt by Apple to force new iPhone sales which amazes me beyond description.  If I experience pain with a product, I'm not going to buy another one and "hope" the problems go away.  I'm going to buy a competitor's product.  Apparently the lemmings keep following the herd or Apple couldn't continue these strong arm tactics.  I'll stay on iOS 6.x until I'm ready for a new phone then...by another manufacturer.

  • Will clicking "set as new iphone" delete my files on itunes?

I got a new phone and want to set my iphone on itunes as "set as new iphone" so that I dont get any "other" glitches so can i set up as new iphone and back up everything from itunes after?

You have two iPhones now right?
The new one if you click set up as new it will just let you start using iTunes without doing anything. After you do that you can unplug the new one and plug the old one in and backup the info to iTunes.
If you still want your contacts and stuff then go to setting and sync your contacts to iCloud or any email that you want. If you do that then all you need to do sign in to that iCloud or email account on the new phone and get the contacts back.
    Hope this helps!

  • Itunes will no longer recognize my phone

I just bought the iPhone 5c. When I plugged it in to my old itunes it synced all of my old music. I wanted to start fresh so i made an icloud account and deleted all of those songs. I then signed on with my new account. After this, itunes will no longer display my phone as a device. I tried everything from reinstalling itunes to checking the Apple Mobile Device services and still nothing. Can someone please tell me what I did wrong so I can get some music?!

    1-reinstall itunes(to last version)
2-reset all setting from settings(on iPhone)
3-change port of usb to your Computer
    was it helpful?

  • Set up new iPhone 5 with iCloud restore, then iTunes created new library with only content already on phone. How do I find and sync everything in original library?

My daughter got a new iPhone 5 and we set it up using the option to restore her iPhone 4 backup from iCloud. This worked great and everything on the old phone showed up on the new phone. Because we were traveling, we weren't able to sync the iPhone 5 with iTunes at that time.
She purchased new apps and music on the iPhone 5. When we returned home she synced with iTunes, and it seems to have created a new library, with only the content currently on the phone. I don't know if it prompted her to do this on the first sync or not - she doesn't remember.
So in iTunes, the library now only shows the music on the phone. A sync isn't doing much now because when choosing the phone in iTunes and selecting each content type across the top (Apps, Music, Movies, TV Shows) the box is unchecked to sync that content. When I check the box to "Sync Music", iTunes gives a warning:
Are you sure you want to sync music? all existing songs and playlists on the iPhone Becca's iPhone will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library.
Same goes for apps, except that warning also mentions that the apps and their data will be erased and replaced.
At some point she was also getting a message that this iPhone was associated with another library, but I'm not sure how she had triggered that. She says she canceled out of that. I can see all of the music
How do we get iTunes to see the "old" library of songs, videos and apps without losing the ones she's purchased already on the iPhone? The music files themselves are still on the computer, and include music both purchased from iTunes as well as music ripped from CDs. Thanks for any advice!

  • I had to restore my computer. All my music is on my iphone. Can I import it back to itunes? When I look to sync, it want to remove anything on the iphone

I had to restore my computer(windows). All my music is on my iphone and ipod. Can I back this into itunes? When I try to sync, it wants to erase data on the ipone or ipod.

Certainly you did not restore your computer without making sure that your backup copy of your computer was up to date.
Just use your backup copy to put everything back.
The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases

  • Itunes will no longer recognize my 5th generation ipod

Itunes will not recognize my ipod (running Windows Vista. My sons' iphone does not have a problem so it is probably my ipod.
Out of date software on the ipod, perhaps?

Did this iPod previously work with this computer (and the current Windows installation), and it is no longer working for some reason?  Or is this the first time you are connecting this iPod to this computer?
I would try doing a reset of the iPod while it is connected your computer.

Even if the iPod's software is out-of-date, it should still be recognized by iTunes.

  • ITunes Store No Longer Recognizes AOL IDs

Here we go again. The iTunes store once again will not recognize valid AOL IDs. I was just on AOL, and I logged in smoothly. Can't log in smoothly at the iTunes store, however -- it tells me that the ID I just used on AOL isn't valid!
Unbelievable. Why can't they get this right? Apple and iTunes has to be the most frustrating set of operating systems and websites in the world today. They can't get the most simple things to work right. And to think I was considering buying an Apple PC to replace my aging HP PC. Not anymore! Anyone know of music download sites that they like? I'm switching away from iTunes given all the failures they've had and their inability to manage their site properly.

Make sure that you selected the correct iTMS country when trying to logging into your account.
