Itunes 10 will not stop auto syncing

I have itunes 10 on a mac and a 160 gb ipod classic.
it will not stop auto syncing when I plug in my ipod, even though "do not auto Sync" button is checked as well as checking off "do not open itunes automatically.
It syncs FOREVER. I would love to find a way to stop this from happening. I dread plugging in my ipod to put on new music etc.

I have had this problem with Windows 7 and iTunes updates for some time. Each time it takes hours to solve but with the over the air upgrade to IOS6 on my iPhone and iPad, I was determined to solve and remember what I did, So here it is:

I hope this helps you and any other users.

  • ITunes will not let me sync my iPad 2...

iTunes will not let me sync my 8 month old, previously synced iPad 2.  It is no longer recognized over Wi-Fi and when i plug it in via USB I am given the 'Set Up Your iPad' screen.  I have tried restoring from a backup, and that successfully restores my iPad but iTunes still will not recognize this.  My only options remain 'setup as a new iPad' or 'Restore from the backup...'
Any ideas what I should do?  I have tried both soft and hard reboots, closed/reopened itunes, rebooted my MacBook...nothing has worked.  Should I suck it up and try resetting to the factory settings?  Or does this sound more like an issue with the iPad?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated - Thanks

ISSURE RESOLVED - there was an interupted/corrupt backup of this device that had to be deleted.  After deleting this backup file, iPad was recognized without issue...only wish is hadnt tried 'restoring from backup' first since my settings were reverted to that previous date once issue was resolved.

  • ITunes will not stop verifying

I have an iPhone4 with the latest iTunes (10.1.0.54) and when I plug my iPhone4 in, it will not stop verifying. I used to have this problem if I canceled a sync. It would verify the phone the next time I plugged it in. I did that this time. I canceled a sync, but now it will not stop verifying to do anything else. I have left it plugged in for 14 hours and it just verifies the entire time. I can do nothing else. It is not set to sync automatically. How do I stop this?

I'm having the same problem, but I've got a MacBook Pro (rather than a PC).
Not only does it continue to 'verify' but it won't even let me force quit (says it's restoring my phone ... but after a number of hours it must be done already).

  • Itunes will not let me sync my music after downloading IOS 7 the music is greyed out and will not transfer to my iPhone

Hello, so I have an iphone 4s and just put the update for ios 7 onto my phone but I am having trouble syncing the previous music onto my music app. Itunes will not sync my songs and when i click the "On this Phone" button it shows the songs i want but they are greyed out with a circle next to them. Idk what this means

You cannot drag a song to Touch. It forces you to be organized. Make a list in itunes then drag that list to the Touch icon in the side bar. That should work.

  • After updating my iPhone to IOS6.1.2, My itunes will not load or sync.  What should I do?

After updating my iPhone to IOS 6.1.2, phone will not load or sync with itunes.  When syncin it gets stuck on waiting for changes to be applied.  What should I do?

"What should I do?" -- Just wait a few hours and your battery will drain out.  Then you won't have to worry about loading or syncing tunes.
Hellooo???  Apple???  Are you out there???  Two months and counting now, and still no fix for the 6.1.2 battery-drain problem.  Hellooooo????

  • Itunes will not let me sync WHAT-SO-EVER

So i see where you would have to click "sync ipod" on itunes, but i cannot click it. The manual also suggests going under some place where it will connect me with my ipod. but i can not find that. i know my ipod is connecting to the computer becuase it's charging, but that's it. help?

The specs for a 4th gen iPod says "Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4 or later)" is supported, so it should work on that basis.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP73
If you are connecting it with USB (not FireWire), it should be USB 2.0, not 1.1 (although it may work at a painfully slow speed using USB 1.1 - some USB 1.1 ports may not provide sufficient power).
The system requirements for the latest iTunes 8 says you need XP or Vista, so iTunes may not work properly if you run it under Windows 2000. iTunes 8 does work with my 4th Gen iPod on my Mac. iTunes 6 is probably the last version that is officially supported with Windows 2000.

  • Itunes will not open and sync my Ipad after Imac update.  Why?

I had a computer udate on my IMac yesterday and now I cannot get into my Itunes at all.  I have no access to my music or videos, but my pictures pop up when I plug in my Ipad to the IMac.  There is a message that comes up on my screen when I try to click into Itunes and it says; "The file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."   I'm not sure what to do to be able to get back into my Itunes and sync my Ipad to it.  Any suggestions?

If you've reached five authorizations for your iTunes Store account, there will be a button in your Store account information that will allow you to deauthorize all systems associated with that account. Log into your Store account and you should see it. You can then reauthorize the computers you're using now.

  • Itunes will not stop downloading a song Help!!!

I can't get itunes to stop downloading a song. I have tried everything I know how which probably isn't much, however it isn't fixing the problem. Please someone tell me what to do!

In a peculiar twist, in 11.1.1 two particular podcasts (Science Friday audio & video) have two particular weeks of episodes (one was last week, so it may extend to the future as well) that won't delete permanently.  When you delete the already played episodes, they just download again on a refresh.  That behavior is described in lots of places.  I thought it might be a bug in the RSS code, but I've compared SciFri with some others that don't have the problem and can't identify anything glaring.
The peculiar twist is that if I mark the already listened to episodes as Played (so I don't have to look at the large counter number), after awhile they show up as unplayed again!  Some bit deep down in the iTunes innards is not sticking as it should once episodes are played, and it's apparently an intermittent issue that affects only certain podcasts.  One would think it couldn't have anything to do with the actual audio or video content, so it must have something to do with the XML or the metadata being read or set wrong.
Very vexing, because without constant policing, downloads and disc space keep accumulating - a problem for those on limited data plans.

  • Bought a new computer, transferred all my music.  Itunes will not let me sync my ipod because it says I have 2 computers.

I purchased a new computer and transferred all my itunes music by copying the music and transferring to new computer.  When I try to sync my ipod, itunes
says that I already have another computer.  The other computer no longer exists.  How do I rid the identity of the old computer?

If the Erase and Sync option does appear when this prompt comes up, restore the Nano to factory settings and then resync all your content back over to it from your new iTunes library.  This process will allow the iPod to associate itself with the new library.

  • ITunes will not recognize or sync my iPhone (or other devices)

iTunes used to pick up my iPhone and iPad when they were plugged into the USB port. Now it does not recognize any device plugged in. The USB works because I use it for other purposes (and it lights up the phone and starts charging it). Any ideas?
