ITunes 11 Crashes When Attempting to Sync Podcasts

My two computers, a Mini and a MacBook both run Snow Leopard (10.6.8) so I can continue to use Photoshop CS3. I made the horrible mistake of "upgrading" to iTunes 11.1.1 at Apple's suggestion. While I agree with many of the aesthetic and functional complaints I've read on this forum, my issue is more serious. When I attempt to sync new podcasts iTunes immediately crashes. Specifically when I attach any of my four functioning iPods, ranging from 3rd Gen to 7th, the device comes up on the File page, the Summary page opens correctly and so does Music. But when I select Podcasts I immediately get the dreaded spinning beach ball of death and iTunes in my open Force Quit window turns red. Force quit is the only way out. I've "upgraded" to 11.1.2 and now 11.1.3 with the same results. I have sent in dozens of crash reports to Apple and have written the iTunes guy at MacWorld with no response from either. My crash reports are no longer polite though I'm aware the person reading the reports  is not responsible for releasing this buggy mess.
I have Time Machine and was able to install an older version of the application,10.6, but was unable to regress the iTunes library so now the app is incompatible with the library which is apparently permanently changed, even with Time Machine. Installing 11 also wiped out 6 years of carefully archived podcasts, many of which are no longer available at the iTunes Store.
Any suggestions are welcome. If I absolutely have to I guess I'd be willing to install Mavericks on the MacBook if I knew that would solve the iTunes issues but I resent that I have to do so. I have been a loyal Mac fan since 1984 but now that Apple is fat and happy it looks like it's going to replace Microsoft as the company with the black hat.

As I said that was a Test.
Now we know that iPhoto is sound, as is the Phone, it's the other Library that's damaged.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
However : Library Manager has not been fully updated to work with 11 yet. So, best to wait until Wednesday (when the release is due) to do this step.

  • ITunes crashing when trying to sync to apple iPhone4

When attempting to sync new iPhone 4 with my iTunes it crashes with no error message I've deleted all songs apart from purchased and ringtones etc but still crashes when attempting to sync. Any suggestions or ideas would be gratefully recieved. thankyou.

Sure thing. I got Windows 7 'cos I'm MS partner in business. Not that I like it too much.
I just though that someone could experience similar issue. If not than I'll wait until official release and we'll see. It is strange though. All coms in firewall and antivir are open for iTunes, it sees Apple TV just fine, and everything is peachy until I try to sync.

  • ITunes crashes when attempting to play purchased tracks

Hoping someone can help me here. iTunes crashes when attempting to play tracks purchased from the iTunes store. Music imported from CDs still plays fine. They have played preiously but not since downloading and installing 7.0.2.16. QuickTime is up to date and I only have 1 PC authorised. Help!

There's another thread on here that suggested re-installing iTunes. That works for me (in that the videos play), but I have to re-install iTunes every time I want to watch them which is a pain. So if anyone has a more permanent fix...

  • Itunes crashes when trying to sync Contacts

My itunes crashes when it tries to sync contacts with Outlook. I cannot even select the Contacts tab to change the settings. When I click the Contacts tab, itunes crashes. Has anyone experienced this problem?

    I'm experiencing the same problem.
A temporary fix is to open iTunes (without the iPod cabled into the computer.) Go to "Edit Preferences," then "Devices," and check the block that says "Disable automatic syncing..."
Then, attach the iPod USB cable. The iPod settings will all show up, but the iPod won't sync, and iTunes won't crash. You can then uncheck the block under the Contacts tab that says "Sync Contacts." (iTunes will ask you whether you want to save the existing contacts.)
Go back and uncheck the Disable automatic sync command. Tell iTunes to sync the iPod, and there shouldn't be an iTunes crash.
Admittedly, this is a bandaid until something better shows up. My suspicion is that it's a problem that originates with Outlook, and not iTunes.

  • ITunes crashing when trying to sync books from iPad

When trying to sync books from iPad to iTunes, iTunes crashes causing Microsoft error message. Any ideas?

There may be a corrupted video or image file on your iPad.
Try to download from the iPad using Image Capture instead and save the photos to a folder. If that succeeds, you can check the files for corruption before importing them to iPhoto.

  • ITunes crashes when trying to sync

I've just updated iTunes to the new 9.2.0.61 version, and have not been able to sync since.
Apart from the backup taking so long time, that I haven't let it finish for the last 4 months, iTunes either crashes or gives an errormessage, stating that the iphone has been disconnected once it starts syncing podcasts (I don't have any music stored on the phone).
I've tried reinstalling iTunes, restarting the computer, running diagnostics in iTunes and searching this forum - but no luck.
    Does anyone have similar problems?

Thank you for the swift reply, it solved the "unable to sync podcast" part of the problem, but the error message still occurs...
oh well, I suppose I'll just have to ignore it and hope they fix the problem in a later update. At least I can load new podcasts onto the phone now

  • ITunes crashes when attempting to download purchases. Solutions?

Ever since I installed iTunes on my current Windows 7 computer, I've had a persistent issue involving the program crashing when I attempt to download purchased items. I hav etried re-installing iTunes multiple time, but it has done nothing.
Is there a solution available that I am not aware of?

I just tonight restarted and logged into my Mac after this upgrade being applied. I discover that I am completely unable to play back song samples in the iTunes store. The first time I double-clicked an item, I got the immediate gray-screen "You must restart now." After restarting, I tried again, and this time it didn't even crash gracefully...the top third of my screen display has been overlaid with Linux-level white-on-black text, explaining the Darwin kernel's inability to cope with whatever the f*&k just happened. "Frame not mapped or invalid" was the gist of the message.
Good thing I have my Windows machine here to login and complain...

  • ITunes crashes when trying to sync iPad and iPhone to Macbook Air

I would like to back up iPhone and iPad.  Every time I connect either device to my Macbook Air, iTunes crashes and I have to force quit.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • ITunes crashing when attempting to "download all" podcasts

Operating System: Windows 8.1 Professional 64
    Processor: Intel Core i7-3820 3.6GHz
    Installed Memory; 16GB
Hard drive: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 750GB (529 GB free)
    Software version: iTunes 12.1.14 64-bit
As iTunes default setting appears to be to deleting all played episodes, I've been forced to re-download available episodes of the podcasts to which I subscribe.  The issue, however, is that iTunes is now literally dying every time I attempt to "Download All", regardless of how many episodes need to be retrieved.
I don't remember having this issue prior to the newest release of iTunes, but I don't remember it being set to delete indiscriminately, either.
If there's a current workaround,  I'm amenable to using it, but I really wish Apple would quick tinkering with this to make it shinier for the dumb people...

    Hey there canidomini,
If your iTunes application is still quitting unexpectedly, I would recommend you use the troubleshooting in the following article about those kinds of issues, named:

  • ITunes Crashed when attempting to access Music Store

hello. I am using iTunes 6.0.5.20 as of today, and continue to have a problem carried over from the previous version...
when I attempt to access the iTunes music store in the regular manner the program closes without any error messages, the icon remaining in the system tray until i scroll my mouse over it upon which it disappears - the program crashes outright -
i have e-mailed apple support and attempted to use all of their automatically generated solutions in solving this problem including -
upgrading (was never the issue i stay up-to-date generally)
checking my network and program access settings including firewalls etc.
    run the repair process
run the un-install re-install process of both itunes and quicktime
i've also tried re-calibrating the itunes library by deleting the appropriate files and having itunes re-determine the included files... nonetheless the problem remains
this is becoming immensely frustrating and to be frank, i work in the recording industry and for all the talk about apple support - i have been immensely frustrated by the lack of personal support whatsoever - i have received only automated responses regarding online documentation... as if i didn't spend horus trying to solve the problem before sending an e-mail at all.
please if anybody has any ideas i'm desperate to solve this.
    cheers
    elias

Your problem is the same one affecting countless iTunes users, including myself. There seems to be a common factor in that most if not all are using Windows XP Pro and I've noticed that the computer make, when listed, is a Dell. I have been through all the same Apple fixes, waited on hold for support for 1 1/2 hours just to be hung up on. I've had this issue for over a month and it has transcended both iTunes ver 6.0.4 and 6.0.5. Interesting thing, sometimes I get an error message telling me iTunes has to shut down and most of the time, the application closes unexpectantly and I have the same icon in the system tray till I hover my mouse over it. Frustration has turned to anger and a desire to find another product to get music into my and my 2 kids Ipods. I'll keep an eye on your post and let you know if I uncover anything as well.

  • Itunes crashes when trying to download Podcasts

Just updated to 11.3.1.2, Everytime I press the Refresh button to download the latest Podcast, Itunes keeps on Crashing, I get the "Itunes has Stopped Working" error message and forces me to close it.
Is this happening with anyone else? I am unable to download the latest podcast if Itunes keeps crashing on me.

uninstalling and reinstalling did NOT work for me.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • ITunes Crash When Attempting to access iTunes Store

So, here's an interesting one for you. Every time I try to access the iTunes store, iTunes decides to crash on me. No error message, nothing. Just poof gone.
It worked yesterday when I plugged in my iPod Touch and got it running for the first time. Everything else I've tried on iTunes works (with the exception of .avi files not importing, but I assume that's normal). If I access the App Store via my iPod, it works. It's just the store interface in iTunes.

I'll go ahead and provide the entire diagnostic thing, since more information is always good, and the diagnostic's full text isn't that much longer.

  • ITunes crash when trying to sync music on Windows 7

I have an 80-GB iPod classic that I sync with iTunes. I downloaded the 64bit version of the installer and it's been working fine until recently. When I try and sync my iPod to my library, iTunes freezes, and then when I close it it won't open unless I restart my computer. Has anyone else had this problem?

A large amount of Other usually indicates a corrupt files on your iPod.  The only way to clear out this large amount of Other is to restore your iPod in iTunes.

hi guys! lately, i've been having a major problem with my iTunes. it seems like it crashes everytime i touch the "videos" section (either playing video, editing info of video, etc.), eventually freezing the whole osx and forcing me to shut down my computer via holding down the power button (eeek!). do you guys know where my problem might lie? it is freaking me out because i never thought this kind of thing would happen to a mac! haha any suggestions/help would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks so much!

Usually when you update iTunes it is best to check if there is a QT update too. It appears that when Apple updates iTunes there is some component in QT that also needs to be updated due to changes in the DRM scheme.
