ITunes 12.0.1 crashes at end of movie download from iTunes Store

I have a Mid-2011, 21.5" iMac running Yosemite v10.10.1.  I upgraded from 4 to 8 GB of RAM about a year ago, but I don't think that's an issue with this problem.
I can no longer download movie or tv show purchases from the iTunes Store to iTunes v12.0.1 on my iMac.  The download starts and lists in the Downloads pane in iTunes.  However, once the download has completed and the Download progress bar message changes to "Processing..." iTunes crashes.  When I start iTunes back up again, the downloaded movie is not present in my iTunes Movie library.  However, if I navigate to the iTunes\Movies\ folder, I can see a folder for the movie and a file instance of the movie (in m4v format) for every attempted download.  Something seems to be going wrong with iTunes ability to add the link to the movie file into my iTunes library.
I tried adding the movie folder and file manually to iTunes using the iTunes->File->Add to Library... menu option, but iTunes instantly crashes the moment I click the "Open" button in the Add to Library... dialog window.
I have several movie purchases and gifts that I'd like to add to my local iTunes library, but this error is blocking me from doing that.  (Poop!)
Some weird things about my iTunes library on my iMac:
My iMac does not have a large enough built-in harddrive (only 500 GB) to store my iTunes library.  In a prior version of iTunes, I located the library on an external 3 TB USB-3.0 harddrive.  I'm wondering if there's a bug in iTunes 12.0.1 that occurs when adding content to the iTunes library when that content is located on an external harddrive, i.e. in a folder other than \User\{my username}\Music\iTunes Media\.  Perhaps I need to change the iTunes folder structure on the external harddrive to mirror the new folder structure in my \User\{my username}\Music\ folder.  I'm a little leery about doing this as I do not want to break all the links in my iTunes library to existing songs, movies, etc.
Thank you,
Isaac

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes.  Before iOS 8, movies played fine.  After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive.  Anyone else have a similar issue?

I checked with SanDisk's own online support and they indicate that they have notified Apple of the issue.
According to SanDisk, the problem lies with Apple not having the iOS 8 version of the Safari browser having DRM decoding enabled that the Media Drive relies upon to decode and play iTunes DRM titles. Non DRM encoded videos will play in the browser.
DRM audio is not effected as this is handled by the native iOS music app.
As of the date of this post SanDisk have not been given a timeframe by Apple for this issue to be resolved.
I hope that Apple resolves this issue quickly as I have a large collection of DRM video titles on a 128Mb memory card installed in the Media Drive that I am unable to view.

Okay, you need to contact support definitely about what's going on. Here is a form that will send an e-mail into support for you:

As far as the prices, the difference is likely the laptop version is the SD version and the iPad one is available in HD. That's the only reason you'll see a price difference. It has nothing to do with the device with movies/movie rentals. Apps yes, these no.

  • Issue playing movies downloaded from iTunes on TV when linked to computer via HDMI cable.

Recently I purchased the advance digital copy of "Star Trek Into Darkness" as it was it was released just in time for  moving some people into another state; we planned to watch it when we rested for the day.  After hooking my windows 7 laptop up to a Samsung flatscreen TV using an HDMI cable, iTunes refused to play the movie.  It would play when the computer was disconnected from the TV, and the same error would appear when reconnected.  The error stated that I had to be connected to an "HDCP compatible device."
Is this some way of iTunes forbidding me from watching movies downloaded from their service when connected to an exterior device?  My computer has no issues playing other content, such as netflix, when connected to a TV.
For me it's pointless to buy movies now from iTunes; I feel like I've wasted $20.  Why on earth would I want to sit in front of a computer to watch it when there's a TV five times the size available?

    Hello happylilvampyr,
Unfortunately, this is due to a lack of HDCP support provided by the TV in use. More information regarding HDCP can be found in the following article.
iTunes for Windows: Unable to view or play HD video content that requires HDCP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3354
As an alternative, you can always download the movie in standard definition, which will allow for viewing on non-HDCP devices.
When you purchase an HD video on a supported device or computer, only HD video will be downloaded. To download the SD version, you need to download the video again from your Purchased page. Conversely, if you purchase an HD video on an unsupported device, the SD version will be downloaded. Then, you will need to download the HD version from your Purchased page. • Can't see movie downloaded from iTunes on iPads

Hi. I purchased two movies from iTunes via AppleTV, then downloaded them to my iTunes library. I can see and play them on my computer, but they don't show up in the "shared" tab of the Videos app on either of our two iPads. I've tried force-quitting and restarting the Videos app, turning the iPad on and off, and resetting the iPad; I've quit and restarted iTunes on the computer. Nothing has helped.
All the other movies in the library appear, including others I've purchased and downloaded from iTunes, but not the ones I downloaded today.
    Running OS X 10.8.1, iTunes 10.6.3, and iOS 5.1.1.
    Help?
    Thans.

Ah. iPad 2 can't play 1080p content. Got it. Sorry for the noise.

  • Itunes can't locate purchased songs even after re-downloaded from itunes

    Hello,
I had lost some of my data and with the help of this forum I was able to find my purchase history and re-download 580 songs to my computer but when I go to itunes alot of the items I just downloaded are not located by itunes? Did I miss something? Please help.
    Thank You.

I just bought an iMac and am having trouble getting my iTunes transferred over from my PC. Is there a faster way than transferring the songs to my external hard drive, then to the Mac? Also when I signed in as myself to iTunes on the Mac, I bought a couple of songs from iTunes and now it won't allow me to play them. It asks me to authorize the computer and then says it was successful. But then it goes through the same thing motions each time on the same song. I can't play them at all and I bought them on the Mac TODAY! I have only had one iTunes account, so that isn't the issue...any idea what I can do? Is this going to happen with all of my songs? Also it says I authorized 3 other computers to use my iTunes but I have no idea aside from my PC how that occured and how to undo it. Any help would be appreciated....

  • 10.8.5 ITUNES WILL NOT PLAY MOVIES DOWNLOADED FROM ITUNES

Downloaded the new iTunes last night and it seems to work well with music but it will not play movies I've downloaded from the iTunes store. The sore works, Radio works, I can buy from the store but movies I have from iTunes (Star Trek, The Incredibles, ST: Into Darkeness among others) strat then crash. I get a message about an error with a plug in (FX I think) that has failed or is not found.
Anybody else seeing this? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

Okay, I think I found my problem. I have SRS iWOw installed and the FX plugin is part of that. If I disable iWow all movies play as they are supposed to.
Looks like I need to contact SRS for an update/upgrade or dump it and find another sound enhancer app.
    Thanks fo looking.

  • Movie downloaded from itunes not playing on ipod video

I bought a movie off of itunes and downloaded it to my ipod video. But the movie won't play on my ipod. It plays perfectly fine on my computer. Why isn't playing on my ipod video? Is there something i have to do first before videos are able to play on my ipod?

Is it one film or all of them? I'm having a similar problem where this one film I accidentily deleted that used to play got reloaded and now plays fine on my computer but won't sync onto my iPod. Everything's checked off and ready to go on my computer, but when I sync the film simply isn't there.

  • I somehow lost a large amount of my music downloads and albums that I had uploaded to iTunes.  How can I get the items I downloaded from iTunes Store again?

I upgraded my Anti-Virus and it included a storage box which I tried to use but it filled up with my iTunes music so I deleted that but evidently it also removed a lot of my music from my iTunes libraries.  I can re-upload all the music from CDs but how do I replace the music I bought from the iTunes Store?  I really don't want to buy the music again, in fact I just can't do that.  Any suggestions?

    Download Past Purchases
Sign in with the Apple ID that you used for the original purchase. See which Apple ID you used to download an item.
2 )See if the content is available for redownload. Previously purchased items might not be available if they're no longer on the iTunes Store

  • Airplay won't show video of movie downloaded from itunes, only sound

i just got a new ipad mini. upgraded the OS. downloaded movie from itunes. video won't play on the tv, just the sound plays on the tv.
my other ipad is not having this problem.  The  IOS of the ipad has not been updated.
The appletv did just do any update this morning (in between me testing my ipad mini) and still didn't fix it.
any ideas? I still have 13 days to return this mini and get a regular one. any advice is appreciated.

    Hello mizgeministarz,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I only have a few suggestions for you, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to at least try. Have you tried accessing these TV shows outside the playlist they reside in? Just access them from the main list of TV Shows if at all possible or if that isn't what you are doing currently.
It might not hurt to also try to restore the iPod and start from scratch allowing fresh copies of the TV Shows to sync over to your iPod. There may have been a syncing issue that corrupted your TV Shows. If that isn't the case, your iPod is having trouble with the video playback.
    Hope this helps.

  • Force 1080p Movie Downloads from iTunes Store

Hi everyone, my first post here.
I know that you can change preferences for HD movies between 720 and 1080p in iTunes settings, and mine is set to 1080p. When I am about to download a movie I can see on the movie page that it says "Available in 720p and 1080p, downloading 1080p", and then it displays the size in GB of the 1080p file.
HOWEVER, my concern is that when attempting to download a movie in 1080p with a device with a sub-1080p resolution (which includes every macbook except the Retina I believe) iTunes will automatically decide for you that the movie is larger than your screen and so it will download the 720p version. I have verified this by checking the resolution of the finished download, and also the size of the movie is ~1-2 GB (depends on the movie) smaller than the labeled 1080p size on iTunes store.
I borrowed a 1080p monitor and tried again, and I was able to get a full 1080 download. I am positive that my settings are right, and that the movie in question is available in both resolutions. (I have tested this with many movies actually).
So, yes it's true that my MBA screen resolution cannot handle 1080p movies, but my iPad can and so can my Apple TV so I don't think this arbitraty restriction is warranted. Anyone know of a way around this? I will not be buying movies from the iTunes store anymore if they are forced to 720p instead of 1080p resolution because of my Macbook Air. You pay the same amount of money for either resolution but one is significantly better and I am not able to download it (not trying to discuss whether 1080 is actually better than 720, with my TV setup it is).
Worth mentioning: The above issues have been with RENTED movies only, I have not tried downloading a full length movie because I'm not about to spend $15 instead of $4 just to have this issue again.
Try this yourselves!!! Many of you have probably had this same problem for ages but not even realized it. This should make you angry! Would also be interested if the problem persists for purchased movies, if anyone has tested this.

Same issue. I've been buying TV shows and movies on iTunes for a long time and copying them to my iPhone to watch on my TV. A few days ago, I tried to move a rented movie to my iPhone the same way I always did, click the "move" button next to the movie under the movies tab for the iPhone in iTunes when iPhone was connected and then click "apply". It would do a quick sync without copying anything.
I thought I had a bum file, so I e-mailed Apple support and they reset the purchase so that I could redownload, which I'm doing now.
But my recently downloaded episodes of Lost will also not copy to my iPhone. AND they will not even play on my iMac. When I try to play them, it shows only a grey screen with a progress bar. TV shows and movies purchased and downloaded weeks or months ago still play fine.
No changes have been made to my system. After the rented movie didn't play and copy, I did a update check and downloaded and installed the latest versions of iTunes and the iPhone firmware. That didn't fix it. I have the newest versions of the Quicktime and iTunes. The computer is authorized for these purchases. The iPhone is authorized.
I've looked at similar threads and have not found a solution. I'm stumped. If anyone has a solution let me know.

  • I can not play a movie downloaded from itunes.  it says not authorized

I have an iBookG4. I purchased a movie from iTunes but my computer says it is not authorized to play it.  I went under iStore an made sure authorization was on.  I still can not play the movie.   I can however play the movie on my iPad.

Did you open with the Videos App?

  • Can't watch HD movie downloaded from iTunes, only color lines come up!

I rented an HD movie from iTunes Store and when I try to watch it only color lines appear. My computer has all requirements to download and watch HD movies.
Why does this happen? Is there any solution?
    Thank you!

It's astonishing that this problem still exists. The same occurs with the 1st gen AppleTV.
Upload a movie from an iPhone 4 (in my case) it will appear on me.com in a browser, show up in an iPhoto sync, but not appear on the AppleTV. And, by the posts above it's still going on for the 2nd gen.
MobileMe is a PAID service. Is the team that works on MM asleep most of the working day?
It's so inconsistent. Don't give us the facility to upload from the phone if all the pieces are not in place.
I only have MobileMe for this reason, getting video and pics to the Apple TV quickly for the kids to see immediately. Heaven knows why I continue to pay now that another part doesn't work.
Don't get me started on the piece of junk that is iDisk!!

  • How do I play protected movies downloaded from ITunes to Ipad then on TV?

I recently brought an Apple product: IPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter, and also a High-res S/VGA cable....Thinking i could connect my Ipad to my TV and play the movies I brought from ITunes, but no it says they are protected MEG-4, so they will not play on my TV, WHY??? Wouldn't that be one of the first reasons for buying such a cable, it seems unfathomable to me, I cannot understand, what a waste of money. I get all my movies from ITunes.

    The following says:
    Additional Information
iTunes Store movies (SD and HD) and TV shows (HD) require an HDCP digital connection. If you attempt to play this content using the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter, an alert will appear to let you know that an HDCP-compatible device is required. To view iTunes Store content, do one of the following:
Sync the SD version of the TV show
Use an Apple Component AV cable to play the HD version at 480p
Use an Apple Composite AV cable to play the HD version at 480i
Attempting to play rental content on a device that requires an HDCP digital connection may start the rental timer. Use one of the recommended Apple AV cables to view your rental before the time limit expires.
