ITunes 12.1.1.4 won't launch on Windows 8.1 64 bit

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 8.1 64 bit. I recently let iTunes update to 12.1.1.4. Ever since I updated, iTunes will not start. When I go to the Windows Application Log, I find the following error:

I have followed the directions for a complete removal and reinstallation of iTunes. Upon completion of the reinstallation the app will launch, but then after I reboot, the same error occurs. I have tried running in Windows 8 and Windows 7 compatibility mode, as well as Run As Administrator.
What else should I do?

If Jason's post hasn't helped then for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Photosmart C4680 software won't install in Windows 8.1 64 bit. The installer starts, then never does anything. I see it in Task Manager consuming resources forever:
Here is the version I am trying to run:

    Hey!
Sorry for the drop-off from the thread, I must have missed your response, I apologize.
When it comes down to the actual installation and issues revolving around that; it is no longer an HP printer issue. It is an MSI (Microsoft Installer) issue.
For MSI support, I recommend for you to call Microsoft Technical Support at 1-800-642-7676.
Best of luck and let me know the outcome if you think of it. Have a great day!

  • ITunes won't launch in windows 7 64 bit

itunes used to work fine under Windows 7. Recently it stopped responding. It won't launch. I can see that the processes are running, in Task Manager. But iTunes never opens.
I have tried a dozen ideas from hardware review forums and I have done all that the Apple site suggests here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 64 bit  and Quicktime and removed and re-installed the Apple Application Support.
Nothing so far has changed anything.
Can anyone help me find out why this is happening and how to correct it?

    Quicktime does NOT start
    Many thanks.
In recent times, the error-message-free iTunes and QuickTime launch failures have been indicating that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Itunes upgraded but won't launch with Windows 7

    Hi
I upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes 2 days ago (5 April 2010) and now iTunes simply won't launch at all. I have tried some of the remedies in the posts and have even tried a complete reinstall but iTunes still will ot launch.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I had the same problem: after updating to iTunes 9.1 (no errors) I just couldn't launch it. In Task Manager I saw that the iTunes process was running but it never really opened.
After nights of frustration of scanning the net for solutions I finally managed to get iTunes to run again.
    1) Firstly I deleted the new iTunes 9.1 and all programmes associated with it according to the directions given here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
It also mentions you should remove the Bonjour service but I could never make that work (no privileges or something like that).
    2) After that I reinstalled a previous version of iTunes. In this case 9.0.3.15. I got the download here: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php
    3) Then I disabled the Bonjour service with the MSCONFIG method mentioned at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292?viewlocale=en_US
There they state that you should check which service clashes with Windows by trying to disable one service at a time. I found out pretty quickly that it was just the Bonjour service that caused the problems. All other services could run normally.
After the reboot iTunes finally started up again and I was able to restore my library.
Only thing is that I can not use the Remote App on my iPod Touch. That apparently required the use of Bonjour.
I hope this method helps for some of you!
    Cheers,
    Bart

  • Itunes 10.1 won't launch on Windows 7 x64

itunes version 10.1 for Windows 7 64-bit won't launch after install. I tried launching it under a different user. I tried disabling my antivirus software. I tried using the desktop shortcut, Start menu shortcut, and itunes.exe. The Event Viewer does not log any errors or warnings during installation or when trying to launch the app. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app too. When trying to launch the app, no messages are received, absolutely nothing happens. I had the previous version of itunes installed on the same hardware configuration. During installation, no warnings or errors are received. I checked possible conflicts under msconfig.exe, but only a few apps are checked to start at startup.

When trying to launch the app, no messages are received, absolutely nothing happens.
Some questions in the interest of narrowing in on possible culprits with an error-message-free iTunes launch failure.
    (1) Does your QuickTime Player launch, or do you get an error message of some kind when you try to launch that?
    (2) If your QuickTime seems to be launching fine, try (by way of experiment) disabling the BonJour Service.
In your Start Menu, right-click Computer and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Maximise the window to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the BonJour Service and select "Properties". In the "General" tab, set Start-up type to "Disabled".
Restart the PC, and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch this time?
If iTunes launches with the BonJour Service disabled, by any chance do you have a recent version of IOBit's Advanced SystemCare utility currently installed on the PC? If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling Advanced SystemCare. Can you launch iTunes without having to disable the BonJour Service now?

  • ITunes won't launch in Windows 8

Recently bought a new laptop which came with Windows 8. I cannot get iTunes 11 to launch in Windows 8. Whenever I launch it, I simply get a completely white screen and Windows Task Manager reports it as "Not Responding." I have attempted to "Repair" the installation, uninstalled, and reinstalled iTunes multiple times (I've also tried running Apple Software Update as well).
On a somewhat related note, Quicktime won't launch either. I can double-click the icon on the desktop as much as I want, but the program simply won't launch, at all. Windows Task Manager doesn't even display it as an active process.

If you are still having this problem, Sony Singh posted this fix in another conversation, and it worked!  I have the same Windows 8.1 and iTunes version you have and had the same problem.  This totally fixed it.
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
Simple, huh?  Just reboot after youo copy and paste the above file.

  • ITunes won't launch on Windows 7 after re-boot

I just re-booted my PC and now the iTunes app won't launch. It says iTunes was installed incorrectly but it's been working for YEARS. Before I rebooted, the window popped up to update iTunes but I figured I'd do it after the re-boot. I have over 2000 songs plus movies, etc. in iTunes.  And, because it is a PC, there is no Apple Support.  Any suggestions?

If all your songs and/or movies are saved on your PC, you shouldn't lose anything if you update or uninstall & reinstall iTunes.
Try to update your iTunes, if you're really worried about losing your songs and/or movies, you can place them on a USB flash drive or External Hard Drive or save them on a Cloud Drive (ei. Google Drive, SkyDrive, etc...)

Well that at least is a reasonable workaround. There are no major differences between the two versions other than going full 64-bit and tidying up Get Info a bit.
    tt2
It was, for a day.  Then I needed to spend an evening trying to fix it
But ... I think I have it working.  Via the less than reasonable method of uninstalling all Apple software from the PC (again) then nuking directories from orbit before reinstalling.
For anyone following/finding this thread, I did so being sure to follow the order at Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates and uninstalling "Apple Application Support (64-bit)" before "Apple Application Support (32-bit)" then uninstalling QuickTime (again) for good measure.
I then deleted the following directories:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple
    C:\Program Files\iTunes
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
    C:\ProgramData\Apple
    C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer
    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Apple
    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer
    E:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Apple
    E:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer
    E:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer
    and now it seems okay.
I've not yet reinstalled iCloud Control Panel or QuickTime, though.  And I'm fairly annoyed with Apple for lack of quality here, this is a point upgrade for goodness sake, and it's not like they couldn't afford QA.
    Thanks for the help, tt2.

  • Premiere Elements 13 won't launch in Windows 8.1 (Click the icon and nothing happens)

I'm running the trial version of Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8.1 64-bit. It's a brand new PC built for video editing. Everything worked perfectly for about a week and all of a sudden I'm unable to start the program. I click the icon and nothing happens. No splash screen, no error code, no spinning circle cursor.
I have the latest video card drivers for my graphics card.
I've tried uninstalling the program, removed every last Adobe file from my PC, uninstalled all instances of Microsoft Visual C++ and reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 13. I tried the same with a fresh download of the program. Neither worked.
I've tried installing a couple .dll files based on a similar thread (where a program called iLivid was the issue). I don't have iLivid on this PC and adding the new drivers didn't work.
For the few days that the software was working I loved it and was ready to purchase. Unfortunately I won't be able to buy it until I can get it to launch on my PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

My major problem was with the reliability of the uninstall reinstall of Premiere Elements 12 Windows. I did not encounter any issues in this regard with 11. And, I have only looked at the 30 day tryout of 13 from Adobe. My computers are Windows XP 32 bit, Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 and later 8.1 64 bit. The following describes what got me through the worse of these hassels.

I am not sure if the above will work for you with 13. But, it would be worthwhile to check them out.
Since you are dealing with current version 13, it might be a good idea to get Adobe via its Adobe Chat involved, with the hope of some remote control of your computer troubleshooting to try to get to the core of the issue. Chat Panels have been hard to come by for some of these issues, but let us try this route.
Please click on the following link
    Contact Customer Care
    Premiere Elements
    Adobe ID and signing in
Adobe ID, sign in, and account help
    Chat Panel
If the link does not hold its set, then you will need to navigate to the Chat Panel using the above titles as guides.
Depending on the outcome....if you purchased Premiere Elements 13 from Adobe direct within the last 30 days, you can request your
money back from Adobe. If you purchased elsewhere, then you are left to deal with the return policy of the seller.
We will be watching for further developments.

  • ITunes 9 on 10.6 won't launch not properly localized for this language

I have run the iTunes 9 installer on Snow Leopard in the UK. It appeared to complete the install successfully. When I open the app it fails to launch with an error - That this version of iTunes is not properly localised for this language - please install the English version. Given I am downloading directly from apple.com/uk this is frustrating. Given other UK twitter users have successfully installed I think the problem is my Snow Leopard install rather than iTunes.
I have rebooted, installed other languages from the Snow Leopard install disk and tried to repair permissions. I have re-downloaded the installer from apple.com with the same result.
    Any ideas?

Hey all, obviously I have the same problems with my iTunes 9.0.1. I've tried un/re-installing it. I've tried removing the cache. I've read a suggestion to place a new Localized.rsrc file in this extension: 'iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj.' but have no idea how to follow it nor how to open the .rsrc file. I've tried searching for those folders but they don't exist in that order, and I can't figure out how to use the .rsrc file. I hope someone figures something else out soon. I'm not very tech-savy so any help would be awesome in a dumbed-down version.
I may just re-install an older version... the only problem is I'd have to re-create all the library content because it would be too old to read the library stuff I have now... GAH! I won't update anymore until I've read reviews. I've had too many problems with updating iTunes and Quicktime. Sorry, I'm venting. Help, please!

If I have to uninstall and reinstall, do I need to make backups of my library and files first? I am not sure how to go about all this.
    Any tips welcome!

-- I asked for the download of 7.0
-- It worked and iTunes loaded at the end
-- I restarted the PC w/ the Security back on
-- iTunes still worked after this test
