ITunes 5.0.1 and Quicktime 7

Right, first off, my apologies if this subject has already been covered, but I couldn't go back 35 pages of topics to check so forgive me.
Down to business then - I used to be on iTunes 4.9 which worked fine. I've had updates before and its all been well. I decided to download the update for iTunes the other day, which I may add took me 3 days (I only wish I was joking) and now everytime I click on the shortcut, or select it from the start menu, I get an error message saying that Quicktime version 6.5 is insufficient and I need Quicktime 7.
Now this is all well and good, because I'm not an idiot and I can do simple things. So I download the quicktime 7 update from apple, and still I get nothing. I've tried this many many many times, and I'm still not getting anything, so I turn to you.
Please help, I've been musicless for a week
Also, if it will get more people to take pity on me and help me, I may add I'm currently on dialup, and downloading all these drivers updates and anti virus gear is slowly corroding my mental state. So be nice

hi Matt!
before telling you to do stuff, i'd better make sure of something: do you currently have copies of the 5.0.1.4 and QT 7 installers on your hard-drive?
(i'd prefer that you weren't on line for another three days trying our first set of suggestions if at all possible ...)
love, b

With the updates came iTunes 11.1.1 and Quicktime 7.6.6. I am still using Garageband 2008 and iPhoto 2008. When I create music in Garageband I usually adjust the volume and save it. Even now when I share the Garageband created files with iTunes 11.1.1, the volime I previously set in Garageband is retained. However, when I use the music to create a slide show in iPhoto 2008 and export to Quicktime 7.6.6, the volume level I previously set is lost and seems to default to a low level. The problem seems to be either in the slide show export from iPhoto 2008 to Quicktime 7.6.6 or in Quicktime itself. Is there a work around, so that I can retain the volume level I had previously set in Garageband, a volume level that seems to transfer without problem to the new iTunes. But then iPhoto 2008 (slide show) possibly or Quicktime 7.6.6 do not cooperate. Before I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard, the new iTunes and Quicktime I had no problems with the set volume being retained in the old Quicktime. The reason I need control over the volume is that all these music files are uploaded to YouTube.

  • How do I reinstall iTunes 11.1.4 and Quicktime to Windows 7 PC?

I have noticed a fair number of users being unable to reinstall 11.1.4 by iTunes after deinstalling due to errors from the update. I have attempted to reinstall several times but the download installation never shows up on the desktop even though the welcome comment from the manufacturer thanks me for installing the product.
How do I reinstall iTunes and Quicktime and actually get the product back to my PC for use? I am using Windows 7 and have been a supporter of the iTunes for several years and would appreciate being a happy customer again! Thank you.

Try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • ITunes 7.4.2 and Quicktime now crash immediately on start up :(

    Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem.
I have just upgraded to v7.4.2 of iTunes with Quicktime and now when I startup iTunes and Quicktime the programs crash immediately saying,
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
Anyone been able to sort this out? I have tried repairing the installation but this does not help. I do not particularly want to uninstall iTunes as I will lose all my playlists / podcasts etc.
    Thanks,
    John

Hi all - I have solved this - I remember I uninstalled a codec pack and since then Quicktime failed to work.
To solve the problem, I downloaded the latest standalone version of Quicktime and uninstalled Quicktime from my system, then reinstalled using the standalone version.
Worked a dream...... Hopes this helps someone else

  • Itunes won't start and Quicktime, too

've been trying to search for answers in the forum regarding my problem. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it still doesn't work. I used to have Windows Professional 2000 but recently our IT guys changed it to Windows XP. Itunes and Quicktime work perfectly fine before but now it doesn't. Whenever I launch Itunes, it shows the following message:
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Quicktime doesn't even want to launch at all. Tried uninstalling Quicktime and it says it's got fatality error and won't even be unistalled.
Help!! I knew I encountered this problem last year and somehow solved it then but I forgot how I did it. Anyone who can remind me or help will be greatly appreciated!!!

So I try to uninstall Quciktime, but guess what? The uninstaller refuses to work and it won't appear in the "Add/remove" programs control panel applet.
    let's try this first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
after the PC has restarted, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into that PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
in Add/Remove, select iTunes. click "Change", and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, does iTunes launch properly again?

  • Itunes 8.02.02 and QuickTime 7.5.5 Problems

I don't know when it happened since I don't play a lot of video on Itunes or my PC, but yesterday I wanted to download a TV show but I kept getting a bunch of colored lines and then a blank screen.
I have completely unistalled both Itunes and QuickTime (following the direction on the support site), but I still have the same problem. If i try to play QuickTime outside of Itunes, I have the same problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions.
    Thanks

I upgraded all three downloads - iTunes, Safari and QuickTime and was unable to open iTunes after install. I read through some of these suggestions ans I installed QuickTime again, but chose the second option -- WITHOUT iTunes. I did not UNINSTALL anything. And after doing this I was able to access iTunes again.

  • ITunes store movie download and quicktime and other media players

    (1) Have bought a movie and downloaded it from the iTunes store. It playable using quicktime but not playable on the other 5 media players installed on my laptop. Is this the way it should be?
    (2) Quicktime is the only player (irrespective of the format)that does not work using the 's-video out'on my laptop. Is that the way it should be......thanks

II'm having the same exact problem! I rented this movie and tried to download it. It got all the way to the "processing" stage at the end but then failed and I had to retry the download. Well it kept saying that I had to retry so I restarted my iPad and checked tried to I check under my downloads in the iTunes Store. The downloads tab had disappeared so I decided to check under my videos and sure enough it was there. I went to the movie and there was a play arrow and a cloud with an arrow on it to download it. I tried to play it and I brought me to the movie screen but then closed and brought me back to the home page. Then I tried to download it from there but it would just say: "You've already rented this movie but it is not download. Go to the iTunes Store to manage your downloads."  So I go back to the iTunes Store but can't find downloads anywhere. (it's not by the purchased tab on the bottom right) I tried to search the movie again and instead of saying rent or buy, it says watch but when I try to tap "watch" it bring me to videos and the black movie screen but then closes again!! This is extremely frustrating and if anyone knows what to do that would be great. also I rented a movie today (divergent) to see if my previous movie, Hancock (the one I'm having troubles with) would appear in the downloads also. Sadly it did not, but divergent downloaded and played with no problems and it is also a larger movie.

  • Itunes 10.5.2 and Quicktime problems

I allowed my Mac to update my Itunes to 10.5.2, now I get the error "Itunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later. For more information on upgrading your computer visit http://www.apple.com/quicktime"
I went to the web site and cannot find a version 7.5.5 to download. It says quicktime is included in OS 10 (running OS 10.5.8) Version of Quicktime on the system currently is Quicktime Pro 7. Software update cannot find any updates, says my software is current. HELP!

I am having the exact same problem. Running 10.5.8 on a PowerPC Mac Mini. Any suggestions of what to do are welcome!

  • Itunes will not open and quicktime will not update

selecting iTunes results in popup message; 'iTunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later...', but QuickTime will not open.
    Control right-click did not help.

Wow, it looks like your software is very very old.
The current version of QuickTime is 10.3.  The current version of OS X is 10.9.1.  (Your profile indicates you are running OS X 10.5.8, Leopard.  Leopard was released in 2007.)
The current version of iTunes, 11.1.4, will not run on Leopard.
Anyway, it sounds as if all your software needs extensive upgrading.  You may be using a computer that is too old to run current software.

  • Itunes and quicktime will not open properly

My itunes freezes when opening and quicktime say there is a run time error. I have uninstalled everything and quicktime does not go away. then re-installed both and they still do not work. not sure what to do.

I have uninstalled everything and quicktime does not go away
what's the precise wording of the message that you're getting when you try to launch itunes?
what is the wording on the message that you get when you try to uninstall QuickTime?
(include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • ITunes and Quicktime downgrading...

Hi there... I have a G4 and am using OSX 10.3.9. This is my Pro-Tools computer as I have an older version of ProTools that doesn't run on 10.4 or upwards.
So... The story so far. I updated my computer with the more recent versions of iTunes and Quicktime (from iTunes 6.0.3 & Quicktime 6.5), as I was advised by a "friend" to do this. However, it turns out that the new versions don't work with OSX 10.3.9. So I was then advised by the same "friend" to delete (don't ask, as I'm still not sure who's pulling my strings) these recent versions of QuickTime and iTunes from my applications folder and to delete all the preferences associated with them, which I've now done.
We then located the old versions that we were originally using i.e. iTunes 6.0.3 and Quicktime 6.5 and have been trying to reinstall these... But with little success.
    So my questions are:
Do I need to do an "Archive and Install" from the original OSX 10.3 disks?
OR do I need to "Archive and Install" using the original OSX 10.1.3 disks?
Also, during an "Archive and Install", are all my files safe i.e. they won't vanish (we have an album's worth of material on there that the record label are expecting us to give them very soon)?
    If the above fails...
Is there anyway of simply installing the older versions of iTunes and Quicktime from web links?
    Yours hopefully!!!
    Karl

Go to - http://www.oldapps.com/downloadiTunesmac.php - to d/l your choice of iTunes.
Go to HD>Library>Receipts - remove the receipt iTunesX.pkg to the trash - you should now be able to install iTunes.
Have a b/u of your critical data before you do any 'archive/install' which I cannot see is necessary. Your friend appears to be steering you in directions that is causing you problems.
Why would you even consider doing a 'archive/install' from the 10.1.3 disk?
I am not sure about QT - however you can remove the QT receipt and see if that helps.

After this update of ITUNES 7.0.1, and QUICKTIME 7.1.3
I am getting tons of skips, blanks of silence, etc

    What's the deal?

    thanks for replying.
Yes I checked and the settings are standard.

I wonder what else could be the problem?
I do have ac lone copy of my HD before the Itunes and quicktime updates.
I havent done the 10.4.8 update yet, do you think that could be it?
also the latestsecurity update has not been done, could that be where my problem is?

  • Problem with itunes and quicktime

I installed the lastest version itunes, then itunes crashed on me, then microsoft crash analysis popped up with a message to unistall quicktime and then to repair itunes. So I did that and now itunes will not work and when I click on the itunes icon I get an error message about quicktime. I tried a system restore, and I tried downloading quicktime sepeartly, but I still get the same error message. I haven't tried re-installing itunes yet because I'm afraid of losing all of my music, help!!!

Katrina, maybe you can give me some information on how I can get the iTunes program installed, so I can install my music on my Ipod.
I've tried to install the iTunes program on my computer but every time I try to open the iTunes program after clicking on the iTunes setup, an error message always appears saying it need to close and if I want to send the error message to Microsoft or do I not want to send it.
I cannot understand this problem. I bought my Ipod over a year ago and I had the iTunes program installed on this computer and it was working fine, and when I tried playing a video that I had purchased from the Music Store, it would play the video but it wouldn't play the audio. I also had the other version of that same song, where it would only be the audio version, and when I would play that, it would play the audio. When it didn't play the audio and it played the video, I ended up erasing the whole program and erasing all of my music from my Ipod, when I restored my Ipod. I knew that all of my music would be lost when I restored my Ipod. I've been trying everything to get the program up and running again on my computer. Do you have any information on what I need to do in order to get the iTunes up and running again?

  • ITunes and Quicktime will not launch

I cannot get my iTunes or Quicktime to launch. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, upgraded, and tried several fixes that I found on this discussion board. No Luck! I'm using XP Pro SP3. When I first installed iTunes, it worked, but then quit working about 4 weeks later. I'm using the latest versions of both iTunes and Quicktime.

The error message you are getting suggests that you do have one of the problem codec packs installed on your system or you have had in the past.
Quicktime does not install Quicktime.cpl in the system32 directory.
It is possible that one of them was installed without you knowing with other software, I think Storm may get installed with other things although I can't name anything.
You must look for the things on my list and uninstall them if you find them. Check in Add/Remove programs to see if there is an entry there.
When you have uninstalled the problem items go on to the next stage. If you can't find anything you had better go on as well.
Download the stand alone Quicktime (the one without iTunes):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • ITunes and QuickTime will not work..Yeah, another one

Despite my best efforts to try to solve my problem on my own and not both you kind people, I've been working on and off at trying to get my iTunes working, with no positive results at all. It's honestly been so long, I don't recall what might have sparked the issues, but every time I try to open iTunes or QuickTime they will begin to open but fail, bringing up the common windows error message:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
QuickTime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
So far, I have totally deleted both iTunes and QuickTime twice from my computer- first just through Add/Remove Programs pathways, then more in depth with Registry Crawler to try to remove any traces of the programs- all before re-installing the two programs. Both times have failed, still leaving me unable to open either program, so I've broken down and come here- hoping to find anyone willing to lend a hand to help fix this issue so that I can finally listen to my music the way I used to.

    Perfect information, thanks.
That combination is almost always caused by some application stashing old QuickTime componentry down in your system files. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects, although some Games might do it too.)
Let's go looking for the old stuff.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
