ITunes 6.0.3 + Quick Time 6.5.3 = headaches

I love my iMac. I love OS X. I hate Apple's evil business plan to FORCE every Mac user on the earth to upgrade to the latest Mac or the latest OS X while GIVING the wonderful advance features of iTunes 6.0.4 and Quick Time 7 to Windows users without a second thought.
Thanks Apple for giving me yet another reason to use my Dell laptop more and more and more.
It's just very frustrating to try and keep my little iMac as up to date as possible when the company that made the thing is doing everything possible to make me get rid of it ... or just let it gather dust in the corner.
iMac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   Older iMac DV Lime

Why are you ranting and not trying to fix your problem(s)?
I have 3 Macs, all of which have been kept up to date since their first power-on. They have been thru 2 OS upgrades and countless other updates.
I have not had any major problems that could not be easily rectified by doing some research.
What seems to be your problem? What can we do to try to resolve?

You have Acrobat Pro on your system. It will try to open PDFs, and of course it will fail. You must uninstall it. Then, you will need a PDF reader. So install Adobe Reader. That seems quite simple, but perhaps something is wrong. If anything goes wrong with these two steps (1) uninstall Acrobat Pro (2) install Adobe Reader, then please let us know the details.

  • ITunes (as well as Quick Time) doesn't work

Just bought an iPod (Classic Video 160GB) and tried to install iTunes 7.5 (incl. QuickTime 7.3).
Installation goes perfectly well. However, when I try to start the programs, the problems begin.
QuickTime gives me a 'Buffer Overrun' when I try to start the program.
    +Buffer overrun detected!+
    +Program: C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QuickTimePlayer.exe+
+A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.+
I tried to uninstall Quicktime but this doesn't work as the (un)installation program does a rollback at the end of the uninstallation not completing the uninstallation (even reversing it if I'm not mistaking). Have tried uninstalling it with Zsoft Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller without success.
iTunes on the other hand gives an error as well. It's one of those errors in which Windows asks you if you want to send a report. If I do, the 'Microsoft Solution Website' tells me that I haven't got the latest version of iTunes, not true offcourse.

    What I already tried:
    -Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
-Deleting all temp-files through disk cleanup as well as manually
-I have Windows XP, _fully updated_
-Running multiple anti-virus and anti-spyware programs
-Ridding my C:\Windows\system32\ directory of any Quicktime files other than QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx (as suggested in the QuickTime-forum)
-Installing an older version of QuickTime (obviously didn't work because a newer version is already installed.
-Cleaning my Registry with Abexo Free Registry Cleaner
For your information, have never used or tried to install iTunes on my laptop before. I have had QuickTime on my laptop in the past but installed the Quick Time Alternative instead (which I uninstalled yesterday, hoping that would solve the problem).
As I have tried to find a solution to my problems all day now and am not able to find any answers, I hope someone here will point me in the right direction..!! Thank you very much in advance!

OK you need to uninstall AVI and Ace Mega codec pack and you have already uninstalled Quicktime alternative.
Once you ahve uninstalled the codec packs
    Download the stand alone Quicktime:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method here (just Quicktime):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
    Or for Vista
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305409
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • Converting Quick Time Movie to MP3 in iTunes

In iTunes version 4.9 Quick Time Movies converted to MP3 files without loss of audio quality. After upgrading to iTunes 5.0.1 and Quick Time 7.0.2 the conversion results in a great deal of static. Can anyone suggest a fix?

    Hi affilgraph,
Yes, it can be done. First, go to iTunes preferences, choose "Advanced", click on the "Import" Tab and select "MP3 encoder" next to "Import Using". Close the window. Now select the files in questions, go to the "Advanced" menu and choose "Convert selection to MP3". However, if your files are already encoded to AAC this will not decrease the size of your library significantly AND you will lose sound quality. In addition, converting your library in one go might bring your computer to its knees risking data loss. So, I would recommend buying a bigger HD instead.

  • I-tunes - Quick Time version

I have a large number of tunes on my i-pod, which comes off of itunes. When I clicked on itunes today it said "Quick time version 6.5 is installed. Itunes requires Quick Time version 7.03. Please reinstall itunes. When I inserted the disk it asked me if I wanted to replace itunes? I do not want to lose all of my songs on itune - If I do this will I still have my songs? If not how do I get them back. I do have an itunes backup CD but it is not current with the recent songs put on my ipod. Would appreciate someone's help and advice. Please reply to [email protected]

I aslo tried the windows clean-up on majorgeek.com but that didnt help at all either
Walk us through what happened with CleanUp, Michelle. In particular, was there no entry for QuickTime in the list of programs in CleanUp?

  • Quick Time  requires a QuickTime.msi file to install? Not installing?

Ok, I uninstalled Quick Time, because i h8 it, but now iTunes says it requires quick time. so i go to the apple website, get the installer and when i go to install it it gives me a message about quicktime.msi in my appdata\local\temp... folder, and I cant install quicktime without quicktime. Help? Plz... I have $130 on my itunes and I want to buy music.
P.S. I have also tried to uninstall itunes too, and then install them both again, but it still gives me the message "Quick time could not be installled..." or sumtin' like that! HELP?

If you're getting a missing QuickTime.msi message, I'd try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
[Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301]
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and select "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Reboot the PC and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through any better this time?

Thank you for contacting the Apple Developer Connection regarding the issues you've
experienced when attempting to upload your app to the App Store via iTunes Connect.
We ask that you please use the following troubleshooting information to assist in re-attempting your upload:
Your Info.plist must list your icon file with the proper .png extension. If your
file is listed as .tiff, please update to .png
Ensure that your icon file is the correct file size. The large Icon should be 512x512 and the
    small icon should be 57x57
Ensure that you have a valid bundle identifier
Detailed informaiton regarding the Upload page and uploading applications via iTunes Connect
can be found in the iTunes Connect User Guide which is posted on the iTunes Connect site.
If you continue to experience an issue wtih your upload, we ask that you please let us know so that we may further assist you. We would ask that you include the specific name of your application in your response to expedite this process.
I concern about "valid bundle identifier" and my info.plist shows
    com.mycompany.${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier}
but this value never changed since I uploaded the first version.

  • Accidentally took off quick time player and Itunes wont open now

so I have a pentium 3 windows 2000 IBM laptop
    terrible i know
i was trying to get more memory onto my computer by deleting programs i didnt need and a supposed "computer wiz" told me that i didnt need quick time player to run Itunes.
so i took it off and now Itunes wont even open. a message pops up saying that i need to reinstall Itunes
because i have such an old computer (and buying a new one isnt an option right now) the newest version of quick time player isnt compatible with my computer
i tried downloading an older version of quicktime and that hasnt worked either
so my fear is that if i unistall and then reinstall Itunes that
    a) i will lose all my music
    and
    b) there wont be a version of Itunes i can download since i have such an old computer
    any ideas or suggests?

Uninstalling the iTunes program should not affect your music folder however to be sure nothing goes wrong you should backup you music before starting. You might also want to have a look at this page, it refers to XP but you should be able to adapt it to 2000: Removing iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components
You can get the highest version of iTunes that will work with Windows 2000 at this link: iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000

  • ITunes will not load--says I need new version of Quick Time

I've used iTunes for a year and downloaded the new software 7.01--it will not run, says I need to install new version of Quick time. I removed all versions of iTunes off my computer and reinstalled iTunes with same result--Need to install new version of Quick Time. I did this and Quick time said--Can't install because a more current version of Quick time is already installed. Catch 22? Is this a do loop of apple frustration or what? Any ideas would be appreciated.
iTunes used to work great, I'm very disappointed in apple right now.

  • Can't play HD items on iTunes and Quick Time

    Hi everyone,
I think I went through all the posts I could find on the subject. If I missed the solution, please forgive me. First time around here.
    Here's the problem:
Whenever I open a tv show or movie I purchased on iTunes in HD mode, the audio will play just fine. However, the visual will consist of yellow, magenta and green colors and nothing else. Much like having the wrong codec installed. (Note: When the recent Mountain Lion update and iTunes update came out the vidoes played fine - until I rebooted.) All videos worked just fine on my old iMac. I should also note that VLC will show a progress bar, but neither play video nor audio.
    What lead to it:
I recently got a new iMac and migrated everything from my old iMac to the new one. Everything went just fine, except for the problem mentioned above.
What I tried up to now:
    - switching to SD (works - but doesn't really solve the problem, does it)
    - creating a new user account without any apps installed on it (still get the same result)
    - rebooting several times, of course
    - finger gymnastics with P+R+cmd+ctrl at start-up
    Basic system:
    27" (mid 2011) iMac, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6970M, OS X 10.8.2, iTunes 10.7, Quick Time 10.2
Hope one of you guys can think of a solution to this. I'm all out of ideas.

  • 10.5.2 iTunes on Windows 7 x64 bit laptop - Quick Time will play videos but not iTunes

I'm hoping you can help, I've looked for a solution to this for a while now.
I store my itunes library on an external hard drive. I completed a clean install of x64 bit Windows 7 on my laptop - all went perfectly. Downloaded and installed the 64 bit version of 10.5.2 iTunes and located my library...the music plays fine but no videos. I opened iTunes in safe mode and it said that I needed the up to date version of Quick Time. Downloaded and installed that...no problems. Now my vidoes will play in the Quick Player but still not in iTunes! They apprear in the "Now Playing" pane but the timer doesn't move - even after pressing pause and play. Can anyone help me please? Do I need to open iTunes in 32 bit mode? If so, how do I do that in Windows 7? i can only find solutions for Mac's....
    Thanks in advance

I should have posted this earlier, but anyway. I restored my laptop to factory version after backing up any useful data, and the first thing I the laptop was restored was connect to the internet, download and install the latest version of iTunes. And Bingo! It worked.

  • Unable to upgrade itunes or Quick Time

I recently transferred all my data and programs to a new hard drive. Since then I have been unable to run itunes. The message "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". When I try to delete itunes so I can reinstall it I get the following two messages:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable
The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it".
    Any ideas.

"+unable to delete older version of quick time" "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" "enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Quick Time.msi'".
With those symptoms, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?
THIS WORKED FOR MY SYSTEM. I have now reloaded both iTunes and Quick Time. THANKS

    Hi Tamekia,
I am sorry to hear nothing has worked yet. I have looked up some additional information and possible solutions. Follow the steps in this document to perform a level-three uninstall, register the Windows Installer Service, and then reinstall the HP software. An uninstall and reinstall of the software deletes and overwrites any of the files that might cause the error and resets the Windows Installer. HP recommends that you download the latest software from the HP Web site to remove any files that might be causing this error.
Level-three uninstall, and register the Windows Installer Service
Note: The title of this document is not specific to the issue you are experiencing or the operating system you have, but the 3 steps and instructions are what I suggest we do to resolve the issue you are experiencing.
    Hope this helps.

I installed itunes and quick time  but when I try to open itunes I get a message that reads "quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096).  I have removed both itunes and quicktime from my computer and re-installed them and I still get the same message.  What do I do to get itunes to work?

That one is often a compatibility mode problem. Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

One thing is for sure, and that is if the only page i visit is the Google homepage (not logged in) or this site (mozilla forum), the problem does not occur, ever. I can't make it happen.
If i visit yahoo.com (not logged in) (or ighome.com, logged in), as examples, it happens every time.
