ITunes 6.0.3 upgrade complaint

I would like to complain about the recent upgrade to iTunes 6.0.3.
During installation the installer clearly said that with iTunes 6.0.3 I would be able to buy from a selection of over 2000 music videos and TV shows. It even said so in Norwegian.
I'm still not able to find a single music video or TV show in the Norwegian iTunes Music Store. That's false adverstising and I'm very disappointed even though I hadn't expected videos to be available here yet. That is until the installer got my hopes up.
I'm sure there are lots of confused Norwegians out there searching for music videos at this very moment because of that false statement.

The iTunes 6.0.3.5 Upgrade from a "clean" installation of iTunes 6.0.2 above (on a clean install of WIndows XP Pro SP2 itself with no previous Apple softeware before this iTunes 6.0.2 and QuickTime Player 7.04 were EVER installed) left a file called "NewShortcut4_8C3BCD70236347B8A53EEE8A82FD5C78.exe" in "C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{501BADCD-F8F7-44CB-AC3F-6ED25C1A28B5}" besides the other file "Setup.ilg" left from iTunes 6.0.2 setup.

    Hi..
here can I get a version of Safari 5.1 that is compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.3?
Not possible. You need to update to v10.6.8
Click your Apple menu > Software Update
Or update using the this download > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
    Then restart your Mac.

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

  • IPod Songs Don't Show Up in iTunes After iTunes 6.0.2 "Upgrade"

After installing iLife '06, and the iTunes 6.0.2 "upgrade" that came with it, the contents of my 4th Gen. 40 Gb iPod don't show up in iTunes. The iPod mounts on the Desktop OK, and even shows up in the Source list in iTunes 6.0.2. And I can unmount the iPod by clicking on the little up arrow icon in iTunes. But iTunes reports only 919.2 Mb used and 36.33 Gb free in the iPod.
I tried copying a song from my iTunes Library to the iPod, and it showed up in iTunes. But when I unmounted, then remounted, the iPod, it no longer showed in iTunes. It was on the iPod, however.
I tried upgrading to the latest iPod software (iPod Updater 2006-01-10) but that didn't help.
I ran Software Update and it didn't find any software that needed updating.
I repaired disk permissions and Shutdown, then powered back up and restarted. Nada.
The iPod mounts fine on my G4 AlBook running iTunes 4.9, and the contents of the iPod are also visible in iTunes 4.9, so I'm pretty sure it's not a problem on the iPod.
Don't know if it matters, but all of the music on my Mac and on the iPod was ripped by iTunes from CDs (that I own).
    Anybody else seeing this?
    Is there a fix?

We're trying to force iTunes to rebuild properly.
With iTunes not running. Make a copy of the library database file (iTunes Library).
Try deleting the iTunes Library file. Start iTunes. Does this then show the missing tracks? To get the original playlists back you can import from the original xml file that you saved.
If you need to get back to the start point just delete the newly created database and .xml files and go back to the originals.

  • ITunes 10.1.2 upgrade on  Win XP Pro SP3 Kills Internet access

The latest iTunes 10.1.2 install on my Win XP Pro SP3 system kills my Internet access. Internet status shows that I'm connected but Internet Explorer and Firefox can't connect to the server. Running Win XP Pro SP3 with all MS updates applied on a Dual-Core Intel 6600 chip, 4 gig of memory and a couple of terabytes of hard drive. When I do a restore from my backup hard drive to the prior OS and iTunes version, everything is back to normal. I didn't receive any error notifications both times from the install. I first did the install from the Apple website directly (and lost Internet access), then restored my backup system and downloaded the update separately and then installed and lost Internet access again. Am now back up using iTunes 10.1.1.4. Is this update from Egypt? (supposed to be funny).
    Thanks-
    Richard

Thanks for the link. I noticed that "Swut" from Orange County, Ca (see the post below) had a reply in the link you gave me referring to "Vipre" , which is an Anti-Virus program that I also use, like "Swut".
I will investigate this further. In defense of Apple, there is no way that they can test against every bit of software that we run on these PCs. I would hope that if we find out that there is some problem with the Vipre interface, both Apple and the Vipre people will be made aware of the problem.
Before I try the iTunes 10.2.1 upgrade again, I'll contact Sunbelt Software- the people who make Vipre and see if they have heard of this problem. I'll let all of you know what the results are.

I didn't have to go all the way through with TRG10987s solution. When I got to step 4 I noticed that VIPRE had installed multiple virtual network adapters on to of the network adapters. I uninstalled VIPRE thereby deleting the virtual adapters ran the upgrade, and reinstalled VIPRE. Everything works fine now.

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

  • After itunes and q/time upgrade I get an error #63440

after the itunes and q/time upgrade whenever I try to acsess anything via q/time i get an error #63440 quick time was not found even though it is on my machine and I have removed and re-installed.

OK, here's something else to try (with thanks to B Noir and Mark Stejskal for the suggestion):
It's possible that the problem is due to an error in permission in the Windows Registry. To check (and correct) that issue, you'll need to run the Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> regedit). Look for the HKEYLOCALMACHINE section and find SOFTWARE -> Apple Computer, Inc -> Quicktime. Click on the QuickTime folder to highlight it, select Permissions under the Edit menu (or right-click on the folder and select Permissions), and make sure that your user is listed and that you have full permission. If not, correct that and see if the problem is then fixed. You may also need to check the subfolders/keys.
If you're uncomfortable working the registry permissions, you may be able to achieve the same result by uninstalling QuickTime, going into the Registry, and deleting the entire QuickTime folder (again, in HKEYLOCALMACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Apple Computer, Inc. and then reinstalling QuickTime.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes just downloaded and upgraded itself without my consent!!

iTunes just downloaded and upgraded itself without my consent while I was at work. Is this a new Apple policy ? Am I no longer owner of my own machine ? Isn't it up to me when and if I want to upgrade something ?
    /Tommy

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

If your phone isn't being recognized by your computer, you need to follow the steps in this article to resolve that
Also, some basic isolation needs to be done. Does it show up in itunes on any other computers? do you have other cords you can test with to see if it might be the cord? if the phone doesn't show up on any computers, it's likely your phone has a hardware issue

  • ITunes 8 / 2.1 upgrade killed my iPhone 3g.

I have today upgraded my iTunes to v8, then upgraded my iPhone to v2.1, the end result is an iPhone stuck in recovery mode that will not restore (unknown error code 13) plus the loss of my iTunes library (completely empty.
I dare not plug in my iPod!
Have started going through the Apple troubleshooting and trying the device in various USB ports to no avail.
If anyone else finds themselves in the same predicament and finds a solution, i would be most grateful.
Until now it has been a brilliant piece of kit, but is now rendered useless!

I also updated my iTunes to version 8, then downoaded the iPhone update version 2.1. (I had to reboot in between because my phone was not recognized after the update) After the download of 2.1, my phone got stuck in Recovery mode. I tried restoring to no avail. After reading a few posts of people with same issue, I logged on in my "guest" account (same computer) and the restore worked fine there. However, this meant I lost all of my settings and historical data like usage and other stats. I logged on with my regular profile and had to erase and sync the phone.
It is a mystery to me how we can restore from a back up instead of the default "factory" restore... I mean, it takes forever everytime we plug in our Phone for the back up to occur, it would be nice to be able to use it when needed. Again, after much searching, i found this link on Restore http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
So I tried to restore using my own profile since this is where the back ups are stored. Again, my phone failed to restore and I was back as square one.
What i suspect is that there is a file corrupted on the account we use to sync iPhone. Likely corrupted by installing iTunes8... This is why restore works on other computers or other accounts on same computer.
There might also be a USB connection issue. While syncing after the 2nd restore, it stopped in the middle saying my iPhone was no longer plugged in. I checked the connection and it was tight, the phone hadn't moved during syncing...
    Not impressed with this upgrade

Want to convert old movie files to put in Itunes.
What does "old movies" mean to you? File type, audio and/or video compression format(s)?
Can't upgrade QT player preinstalled, so downloaded QT Player 7 and purchased QTPlayer 7 Pro registration code.  Can not get it to upgrade.
Did you follow the instructions found here?
If you have a fix, you can email me direct at [email protected]
To which fix do you refer? Activatng QT 7 Pro or converting the files? Even with QT 7 Pro activated you may need to modify your QT codec component configuration depending on the file type and compression formats used to encode your "old movies." There may be many different problems here with each having one or more "fixes." Please try to be more specific regarding your questions. Converting a muxed VOB MPEG2/AC3 file would be very different different from converting an AVI DivX5/MP3 file depending on which application you are attempting to use.

I've imported a giant cd collection for my boss in wav format for the best quality audio using iTunes version 11.1.1.  I need to transfer this library to our Music workstation using iTunes 11.0.1.  That workstation version of iTunes can't be upgraded for compatability reasons with other software using iTunes.  When I try to transfer the library I lose all of the CD metadata and end up with only track names.  Is there a way to transfer everything along with the metadata?

Not easily.  WAV format does not store tag information in the file.  Realize both AIFF (equivalent to WAV) and Apple Lossless (full quality but smaller files) do, so WAV was unfortunately the worst format to chose.
If you have to go with what you have you will have to explore exporting the library as .xml, moving it and the files to the other computer, then rebuilding a lower version library with the two sets.  I am not sure if you can do it with the library.xml file that already exists or if it too differs according to version.  You may end up having to export the files as a playlist.  You will, of course, lose artwork too, though you can try fetching it from the iTunes Store later.
Some of what you need to do is outlined in these articles though you have the added limitation that you are not building a library of the same version.  (It really is a piity you choose WAV, otherwise you could have simply added the ripped files and most of the data would have traveled with them.)
