Itunes 6 homesharing

I cannot get homesharing to work on ITUNES 10.6.  My apple TV is 5.0 and works fine with my ipad remote.  However, neither my Ipad nor my apple tv can see the itunes library via homesharing.  I have tried everything i know.  I have disabled my firewall (Norton 360 business suite) but to no avail.  It was working fine with itunes 10.5.  Any ideas?

More information.  I went and got a new router since I was using a Berlin.  I got a net gear and I am still having the same problem.  It has to be iTunes because the apple tv and the iPad see each other but neither see my iTunes on my computer.  Will someone please help

    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.

  • ITunes homeshare will not activate with wifi extender

I have a wifi extender which has a different ssid. The problem is that it does not consider that connection as being pa of my home network where my mac is which has my iTunes library on it. This means that iTunes homeshare will not activate.
some reading talks about bridges but I don't know where/to configure such things.
The extender is a d-link power line wifi device.
    Thanks

  • PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues, PC to Mac itunes homesharing issues

Finally copying iTunes from my PC to Mac.  It was suggested by Apple that I do this via homesharing.  Why is it that 1) PC itunes has 2196 songs 2) Mac itunes sees 2192 but only copying xxx of 2093.  Why am I missing 100 songs and no, not a purchased music issue...those are coming over quite fine!

SO SORRY, I Was disconnected in the middle of editing this (said Apple Discussions being updated)  After writing above, discovered my PC didn't still have Home Sharing enabled (may be necc to enable after every update)
    Corrected response as follows
You should try the following to at least determine which songs are misssing:
launch iTunes on both computers, Make home sharing on BOTH computers
Select your PC's iTunes Library icon on in the Leftside Sidebar on your mac. Give it a moment, till all items appear.
Now click the popup on the bottom left of window where it says "All Items", and choose "Items not on my Computer"
You should now be able to select a song and click "import"
Out of curiositly: try to analyze why those items didn't transfer:
    1. Are any of the items in your PC's library missing? (They'll display an exclamation point icon)
    2. Formats: Are the missing songs in WAV / WMA format? I don't know if  iTunes Mac supports WMA (iTunes PC will gladly convert WMA for you.). I don't think either version does WAV.
To test, on your PC, make visible the "Kind" column (via View Options- control-J)) sort by kind see if there are any WMA tunes
    3. Unlikely but possible: The method you used only transferred purchased items.
    4. There is something corrupt  or wrong about the songs in question (windoze permissions issues?)

  • ITunes Homesharing library never fully loads to iPhone

I had this problem with the 4th gen iPod, and now a new iPhone 5c.
An iTunes music library with 72,000 items will not sync with the phone. The connection begins, but halts at various places on the circle. It could stop at 1 o'clock, 3, and often stops dead at 6 o'clock. It never fully loads even if I wait more than an hour
In contrast, the Mac's iTunes library loads to Apple TV in 1-3 seconds.
I think the library is too large, or IOS phones don't like large Apple lossless files, which most of mine are. Four discussions with Apple support have yielded no solution.

At Apple's suggestion I created a small library and it loaded almost immediately. Apparently iPhones choke on large iTunes libraries via Homesharing.

  • Need Some Itunes Homesharing help

First off I don't own an ipad. i used homesharing to tranfers some movies from my itunes account to my dads itunes so he could watch them on his ipad and the next time he plugged in his ipad to his itunes to add some stuff to his ipad an "authorize Prompt" with my itunes ID showed up. he tried to cancel and the prompt will not go away. will this wipe the stuff he added through itunes on the ipad? also how do i get that prompt to go away without removing the movies he selected from his Itunes account?

  • PC1 / itunes: Homeshare turned on, but ATV3 says it isn't.

    PC1 / itunes, Win7 : Homeshare turned on, but ATV3 says it isn't.
PC2 on same network, also running Win7, itunes installed, ATV3 sees the Homesharing from that PC.
Deleted all Apple programs on PC1, rebooted, installed iTunes -  situation unchanged.
So, I have 2 PCs on the same network, both Win7 (PC1 is 64 bit, PC2 is 32bit) both using the same up to date iTunes (11.1.0.126), but ATV3 only responds to one of them.
I really need to get PC1 to provide a Homeshaare service. It did do Homesharing prior to the latest update on the ATV3. I have reloaded the software to the ATV3.
    Any ideas please???

Okay folks am gotta keep this short sorry! I had myself in the same place after just a simple update failed to install properly......
Here's how to fix...... simply uninstall Bonjour, Apple Mobile Devices Support, Apple Application Supportand of course iTunes after all this has been done head over to App "C:\Users\Stephen\AppData\Local", "C:\ProgramData", "C:\Program Files (x86) & "C:\ProgramData" Delete everything to do with the programs that have been uninstalled but be careful not to delete any iCloud stuff or Safari as its a pain in the arse to go and repair. Just for good measure run a Desktop Cleaner or manually delete your temp folders to help make sure the reinstall is clean as possible.
After All that has been done Restart PC and Download a nice fresh install of iTunes 11.1 and run as normal and all should be good if you need to agree to the terms and conditions again....
Just FYI I found it to be the "iPod Module (64x)" that fail to install correctly with already having a previous version install which seem to create all the problems with the firewall...
Hope This helped you all.....now go back to your wife before they find someone else while your on here tearing your hair out lol!!

  • ITunes HomeSharing Issues

I have some problems with the new HomeSharing feature on iTunes 9. I hooked up my computer and another in my home to HomeSharing. Via a wireless network, I was able to access the other library on my computer. However, when I tried to access my library on the other computer, a pop-up came up with an error. It read: "The iTunes library is not responding (-3589) ... port 3689" HELP!

Tried firewall, reinstalled itunes, turn everything off and on repeated again and again and... no result. I did have it working but I think after the last update it stopped working and now can not share anything. The Icon does not appear
    Drives me nuts

  • No apps and can't connect to iTunes/Homesharing!

I hadn't used my Apple TV for a few weeks. Turned it on and now cannot see any apps. The home sharing won't connect and neither will my itunes account despite it being connected to my network no problems. Triple checked all my user names and passwords and no go. It still won't connect and I have nothing! I've reset it and just now have attempted several times to do a restore via itunes and it keeps dropping out even with an ethernet connection.
I've searched these discussions but nothing has seemed to make it work! The issue can't be my internet as my iphone, laptop, ipad and PC are all connected to it no issues.
What is it's problem!!! Help!!!!!! I'm about to throw it out the window!!!!

All fixed. Finally restored via iTunes by turning off Windows Firewall.

  • ITunes Homesharing

I  installed iTunes 10.5 and my home sharing no longer works. I can connect to my home server and play individual songs, but iTunes will no longer display my shared library on either my iMac or my PC.  All I get is a message that the libary is loading. How do I get 10.4 back?

Ok mate, had a little mess around and seem to have it back working. I turned off Library Sharing in the iTunes preferences and also turn off Home Sharing as well. Restarted iTunes on both machines and then turned both sharing features back on. The simplest solutions are usually the ones that work, but I just find Lion is a bit Windows-ish, it doesn't always "just work"

  • Books not showing up in iTunes HomeSharing.

I have an odd problem. I am sharing my iTunes library from my iMac on the local network (ran through an Airport Extreme). On my girlfriend's MacBook Pro, the iTunes library shows up nicely, and shows/plays Music, Films, Podcasts etc... EXCEPT... Books.
That is to say, the Books category is showing up in the list of the Shared Library on the MacBook Pro, but it is empty, while I have a dozens of books and PDF's in that library. As mentioned, Musics, Films and everything else that is supposed to be shared shows up as it should, and plays.
Both Macs are running OS X 10.6.8 and the latest version of iTunes, 10.4.
Naturally, Books are ticked in the Sharing tab of the Preference tab of the iMac iTunes library.
I can't for the life of me figure this one out. Any thoughts anyone?

I am having the exact same issue, but running my shared media folder on a Mac Pro Lion Server.  On that computer everything works fine.  Neither our Lion iMac nor brand new MacBook Air see any books in the shared iTunes Media folder.  They see and can access everything else.  Books are a mix of epubs and pdfs. Prior to tonight's 10.4.1 update, the books list was at least visible on my older MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.  Now that has stopped working.  Installing 104.1 did nothing to fix books not showing up in the shared library on the Lion Macs.

  • Two  ATV2 devices and constant iTunes HomeSharing issues

    Hi,
When I had just my one Apple TV, everything was just fine.
Just bought another Apple TV and now, I have to close iTunes and restart it each time I want to connect to it.
It seems to go like this...
Connect from my first AppleTV... everything ok.
If I try to connect from the second AppleTV, it doesn't see iTunes until it is closed and restarted.
Go back to the first AppleTV - it loses it's connection again.
They are only losing connection to iTunes - Netflix, etc. still work.
Sometimes it will lose connection to iTunes in the middle of a movie as well!
As I said, everything was just fine until the second ATV was introduced to the network.
... I certainly won't be getting a third with these issues occurring.
Any ideas? I've rebooted the PC of course, but that didn't help.
    Thx.

Try going under Settings and making sure each Apple TV has a different name. Your network is probably getting confused if you have more than one with the same name.

  • When I try to set up Homesharing on iTunes I get this message Home Sharing could not be activated because an error occurred (5506). Any ideas what I need to do?

When I try to start iTunes Homesharing I get the message 'Home Sharing could not be activated because an error occurred (5506)'. Any ideas?? Thanks.

I have a brand new iMac with all the newest updates etc etc, Safari logs me in without any problem but iTunes etc is just not working.. and I have the same message...Any ideas how to resolve this?

  • Multiple Apple TVs - one iTunes Host ?

Is that possible at all ? I would choose Apple TVs to equip a building if it is possible to hook them up to one iTunes host.
I've built similar systems for audio, with Airport Expresses.
A second question I couldn't find an answer for:
Is there password protection for streaming access from a mobile device ?
I don't want guest A to be able to stream his stuff to room B....

    seahorsecowboy wrote:

yes, providing your network has enough bandwidth to handle all the traffic.
the original appletv had a limit of 5 devices to 1 itunes library, not sure if the new one has the same limit as it is using a different method to connect to itunes (HomeSharing).
A second question I couldn't find an answer for:

that is AirPlay you are talking about, and that isn't available yet (that only comes with iOS4.2 which isn't out yet).
so until that is released, you won't find an answer to that. however i doubt there will be password protection for that.

  • Windows Vista iTunes Home Share Not showing up on Apple tv2 through LAN

I have 2 new Apple TV's and I'm having the same problem on both, so I think it is an issue with my network or the Vista Laptop. I'm hoping for helpful suggestions here.
    My setup:
2 Apple TV2's connected with wifi
    D-Link DIR655 Router
MacbookPro, iPad, And iPhones all connected with wifi.
iTunes Home Sharing and Airplay all work fine with all of the above.
    The Problem:
I have an old Vista Laptop I want to use as an iTunes Server to store movies on and such, for use on the Apple TV's.
If I connect the laptop to the network with wifi the Apple tv's find the Vista iTunes Homeshare just fine. But when I connect the laptop via Lan Wire to the router the Apple tv's don't seem to find the laptop. This is a problem because i want to just connect it wired and tuck the laptop away in a closet, so it is not a waste of wifi spectrum, but no joy so far. I have checked firewalls and things like that but no luck. Any ideas out there?

I was also having this problem but in my case it was not caused by the D Link router. My problem was caused by mcafee firewall. To get itunes sharing to work I needed to add an itunes firewall/port rule to enable TCP=3689 UDP=5353 and enable this for ALL PCs. Setting this for PCs in Home/Work networks did not work.
