ITunes 6 wont open Need Help!!

I recently installed the newest version of iTunes (6.0.4.2). Every time i try to launch it i get an error message that reads "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" in the error report it says
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer:6.0.4.2 ModName: quicktime.qts ModVer: 7.0.4.80 Offset: 000346f0"
I have no idea what any of this means or what is causing my iTunes to not open but its really starting to frustrate me, i have tried reinstalling it several times and i still get the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi allstarpirate!
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Itunes wont open need help backing up music on external hard drive

My itunes wont open after upgraded to 8 , ive uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and quicktime and still wont work. i found a topic to possibly help me but i dont know how to tranfer my music to an external disk drive without being able to open itunes. i am getting so frustrated. please help

A usb hard drive that Windows sees doesn't need software for a simple back up.
Format the hard drive Disk Management, if it doesn't come already formatted, and then drag and drop the iTunes folder and whatever other data you want to back up to it.
What you're describing doesn't sound like something iTunes did. If you're having general install troubles you have another problem with your system and it's time for a little troubleshooting to find out what's really going on.

  • Itunes wont open- need help!

Whenever i try to open my itunes it says "itunes has encountered an error and needs to close." Ive tried repairing itunes, reinstalling itunes, uninstalling quicktime and installing the standalone version, and then installn ewido anti-mallware and trying to remove some of those inected files. Nothing has worked and ive read through some of the post at i cant find anything else. Please leave me some suggestions! thanks
    adam

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevents it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistance the next time you run it and you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
    Hope this helps.

yes, I tried that document first but it did not work.  I couldn't even open itunes in safe mode at all.  I have reistalled safari and repaired quicktime, I've deleted all itunes software and reinstalled, I've googled fixes and tried them all.  Nothing works.  I tried creating another user account, didn't work.  I can now open itunes, but I have to double click the icon and walk away from the computer.  It take 10 or 15 minutes to open, will sync my ipod once, then locks up and I have to reboot.  Any other suggestions?

  • Itunes wont open! help help help!

i just upgraded my itunes to 7.3.1. it wont open at all! i've uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing happens! it just does not open at all and i'm getting really really frustrated.
what versions of itunes work with the 30gb iPod video with color (all that, etc)? because i'm thinking that this version doesnt work with my computer or something like that and that really really *****!
    somebody help me! please!

Let's try to get an idea of what might be going on with some preliminary questions from b noir's "smack" for iTunes fails to launch situations:
Is there an error message associated with the launch failure?
If so, what does it say and what (if any) error numbers are there?
If there's not an error mesage, go to the XP Start menu > All Programs and try running QuickTime.
    Does it start?
If not, then the same question as for iTunes - is there an error message? If so, what does it say and what (if any) error numbers are there?
And one other question for now, do you notice any other peculiar behavior with QuickTime?

  • Itunes wont open Please help....

Every time i try to open Itunes it says " iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." so i havent been able to download any songs or pics on my new nano i just got. i have tried reenstalling it many times and it still says the same thing what can i do.?
    thank you.

    This is what helped me:
I was able to get iTunes launched (with the help of Tech Support) in a very unsafe environment. I owe it to those who may need this after me. It will get you going, but you will be extremely vulnerable to internet virus assaults. Please do not use this approach, until you have exhausted every other available solution for your issue in the KB.
There are three Steps 1) Uninstall 2) Disble and 3) Reinstall.
UNISTALL Uninstall iTunes using Windows utility Add Remove Program available in Control Panel.
DISABLE Disable all third party System Services and Startup Items using using MSCONFIG utility as described in Service Document http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    RE-INSTALL Re-install iTunes6 + QT7. Launch it under the Selective Startup Option.
It worked ! You realize among other things at this point you have your Antivirus and Firewall disabled. When I started my computer in the Normal Startup Option, iTunes fails to work again. So I have ahead of me the long and ardous task of ruling out the service that is causing conflict with iTunes6. Then work with the software vendor to arrive at a solution.

  • ITUNES WONT OPEN! HELP!

OK, so I installed iTunes, Quicktime, etc, and I plugged in my new iPod Nano but it said something was wrong with iTunes, so i uninstalled it, and then reinstalled it, still wouldn't work. Tried different USB ports, etc. Still wouldn't work. So, I restored my computer, and then installed iTunes again, and now this message is appearing: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
This message is appearing as soon as I click iTunes. I've sent the error report a few times, but nothing's happened. I've also restarted my computer several times, reinstalled iTunes several times, but still no luck. Please help, because I just got the iPod Nano today for Christmas, and I'm disappointed that I cant use it!! Thank you for everyone who replies. =)

Where are ya'll installing itunes from? The website or from a disk that comes with your ipods? I just downloaded itunes an hour or so ago from the website and had no issues...but only thing I can suggest is to be careful how often you unistall and install the program cause that will mess your computer up too...good luck!!! And Merry X-mas!

  • Itunes wont open, needs newer version of quicktime, but newest is installed

I installed IMesh a while back and as soon as I did my Itunes refused to open. Everytime I try to open it, it says "Quicktime version 7.1 is installed, Itunes requires Quicktime 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall Itunes". So then I tried numerous times to reinstall Itunes, uninstall it and then reinstall it, used the installer cleanup thing, and even tried to install Quicktime and Itunes separately - I feel like it's still malfunctioning because of Imesh, even though I deleted iMesh entirely. Please help! I'm absolutely desperate.

okay. let's try swapping out your QuickTime one more time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • LOGIC WONT OPEN NEED HELP PLEASE!!

so i have logic pro 8 on my computer and i click the icon it bounces up and down a couple times and will ask me which sort of template that i want to use.
After clicking on a template my mouse turns into the spin wheel and then it say that logic is not responding.
It has done this now for a few days and a few days before this i couldnt even get to the template menu.
After deleting the application all together and deleting the preferences i got one step closer. Is there anyone out there that can help me?
i am not to computer savy so please give me routes to take with your help.

i understand that logic is a serious program for only serious users. that is why i use it. i meant i am used to working with the registry on a pc not a mac. i can understand anything you ask me to do as long as i get a route. so like i said i uninstalled the program and reinstalled it twice now, as well as deleting the following files out of the user preferences.
    com.apple.logic.pro.plist
    com.apple.logic.pro.cs
still i get nowhere. i also deleted all the logic files that say (crashed).
i also tried creating a new user account and opening the program from there
i get the same error every time.
i have now gotten to the point where logic is trying to load the audio files, but the arrange window still never pops up and then the program will no longer respond.
So w/o the sarcasm i could use a little help. D-bags

  • TS1717 my itunes wont open , any advice to get it to open ? ive already tried deleting it and reinstalling but nothing seems to work.

my itunes wont open, please help. ive already tried deleting it and reinstalling it but nothing seems to work.

Yes there is.  You apparently have Hardware damage inside the iPhone from dropping it.  You would need to take it into an Apple Store and Pay for an exchange unit, which Apple will do; Apple's Warranty does NOT include replacement for "accidental damage", so the Exchange is not free.
