ITunes 7 grumble

I'd just like to grumble about iTunes 7. When I went to get my free download this morning, iTunes told me I need to upgrade to iTunes 7. While that's fine, my choices are my dial-up account at home or my account at work, of which I'm not an administrator and therefore can't download new software.
So I'm just a little grumpy, coz now I have to finally organise my upgrade at home, and I was really looking forward to this weeks free download*.
And since there's alot of people already complaining about being unable to play music since upgrading, I think it's a bit poor of Apple to insist on you upgrading before you can purchase, and then there being problems with it.
* PS. I am not a cheapskate - I usually end up buying way more songs than I should after tasting the free offerings.
PowerBook G4 12" SD 1.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   G5 iMac at work (OS X 10.4.6)

I was just grumpy at the time. I'm over it now.

  • My latest OS upgrade (to 6.1.3) resulted in loss of all music on the iPhone. It is still on my computer intact, but cannot get it back on the phone. If I click on music under the iPhone icon in iTunes, it shows me only voice memos.  Help!

after upgrades, suddenly no music is on or can be synched to the iPhone. It is all there on my computer but cannot get it to synch back. I tried copying over older itl fils t no avail.
If I click on music under the iPhone icon within iTunes, it shows on a dozen or so voice memos. (also shows them under "Voice memos").
    Itunes version is 11.0.3 (42)
    Any suggestions?

From the requirements point of view, you can happily move to iOS 6. From the user tranquility pov, it's a crapshoot. Remember that MILLIONS of iDevices have been sold, a couple of those just this past Xmas season and hence all with iOS 6 preinstalled. "Many complain in the forums" is a number that ranges in the 10's or 100's: i.e., a minuscule amount of the total devices out there. And. of course, nobody comes here to gush excitedly about how well his iGadget works; everybody here (save those of us regular users who attempt to help, we're not Apple employees) has a gripe, grumble or complaint.
I can tell you from personal experience that my i5 with iOS 6.1.4 works as desired. All my colleagues' iPhones with iOS 6 work as expected. And we have a particularly flaky Wi-Fi environment thanks to our less than stellar netadmins.
But in the end, it is entirely up to you. Will you bite the bullet, or wait some more? Check the new stuff that came with iOS 6 and decide whether or not to risk it.

  • How do I manually backup to both my pc & icloud via itunes?

When I plug my phone in and open itunes, there's a backup section with both icloud and my computer listed.
I want to be able to make a manual backup in both places (you can't be too careful! :-).
I can freely checked either my computer or icloud, and then click the sync button, but I must be missing something else.
What are the relevant Settings that must be selected on the phone?
Does the phone have to be on/active?
What do I need to do in itunes to back up first to one place and then to the other place?
I'm not getting prompted to enter my icloud login/pw--is that a clue to what's not working...

Well, t'uh! (insert apple rant here)
Maybe someone will come by later and explain that bit to us. At least for now, I can mostly do what I want, although it's rather awkward and kludgy.
Thanks for the info, both of you, I appreciate it.
(still grumbling about the apple universe under my breath ;-)

  • My App store and itunes has disappeared from my iphone

My app store and itunes apps have disappeared from my iphone.
I suspect Apple is responsible and is trying to force an upgrade. Does anyone know if this is true? because if it is we should object to this.
The upgrade on my ipad was such a horrible experience, I don't want to do it to upgrade my iphone. (Upgrades have been a nightmare every since the itunes interface was changed. In my view, iTunes is the now one of the most unintuitive interface imaginable - [bar windows 8]. Prior to that it was generally easy to do upgrades and backups without hiccups and the interface was great. Now its too obscure to find what you need to do.)
I have been an Apple fan since the original Apple computer - but am not very happy with recent changes that affect use-ability and reliability.
General grumbling aside - every time you upgrade, you have to reload all of your apps; and a lot of favorite apps won't work with the new system. That's another reason I don't want to upgrade.
Without the App and iTunes application - you can't selectively update the apps you want to update or even access your music.
    Questions:
    1. Does anyone know why the Apps and iTunes apps disappeared? (I'm not the only one complaining about this.)
    2. Does anyone know how to get them back without having to effectively erase your phone and start over?
    3. Does anyone know how to get iTunes on the computer to recognize your iiphone when the itunes app disappeared off it?
    Thank you.
    DD

    Hi Dahveed,
Thank you again for the advice. But, rebooting did not help.
In the end I was forced to upgrade.
I am relieved to say that this upgrade went very smoothly compared to other upgrades.
I did not have to re-download apps and they appear to be in their normal folders - except a new app page 2 (after the primary page) appeared containing only the missing apps. This was not there before.
Answer to the disappearing Apple App Store and iTunes Dilemma:
The answer to this problem unfortunately appears to be to upgrade the system.
In my experience the Apps (which presumably are removed to force the user into an upgrade) then re-appear.
On the positive side, at least on this occasion, it did not turn out to be a nightmare make work project.

You have already seen that you cannot load the new iTunes into your 10.5.8, so as Neil says, you need Snow Leopard (current cost £14).    And you'll probably need to update the disc you buy via the combo update, though that is free.
As far as the new iTunes is concerned, there's been a certain amount of grumbling so you may want to study the forums before you update.   The main problem has been with album artwork which does not transfer easily.

  • ITunes on ios7 download music and movie error

I've been getting a download error when buying or renting movies or buying music.
    "Download error. Tap to retry"
    Then I get
"Unable to download song" select Done or Retry
If you select Retry, you get the same message as above
Problem is, if I can't download a rental movie, I can't watch it
    Any real solutions
    Thanks

I have this problem still: 3rd Gen 64GB iPad.
Downloading any video from the iTunes store is apt to result in this problem about 30-40% of the time on rented or purchased movies or purchased tv shows.  I have noticed that it doesn't happen with SD tv shows as often as HD (probably due to file size) and that is how I get around it sometimes -- just grit my teeth, give up on the HD and suffer through the lower resolution for that tv show (grumbling iOS7 poor QA related unpleasantries under my breath)
Basically if the download has to be paused or is interrupted odds are that I'll never be able to complete that download... it'll try and try and sometimes result in a download error that won't go away and sometimes it will just keep downloading and then starting the download over at some random time before it completes.
I have found that calling iTunes support and asking them to clear that download will then allow me to start over and usually finish.
It is EXTREMELY annoying and hopefully they are working on a fix and it woul benefit them to do so if thre are many in this situation becasue I buy fewer shows and movies right now because it's such a royal pain to get them to my iPad to watch while flying or in hotels while travelling fo work each week.
If anyone has found a viable solution please post because calling iTunes is the best I've come up with so far and while I can't say one way or another it does appear to be related to storage or file system access.
Also my iPad freezes occassionally and I've noticed a possible correlation between a freeze and a dwnload restarting.
    Best regards, all...

  • How do I manage radio stations in a different playlist other than itunes's main library?

First of all, I don't remember having this problem before. Second, for being apple's flagship software product, it's still really really buggy, but I digress.
In anycase I have some radio stations that I want to put into a play list on itunes. The problem is that they show up in my main music library as well, this is an issue when I just want to listen to my playlist and they pop up. I want my radio stations to be contained differently from my main music stash. As I said earilier, I don't remember this being like this before. Pretty much, ever since apple change the iTunes icon, I've been less and less thrilled about the changes being made to itunes.
    Sincerly,
(Someone who is Grumbling about how itunes doesn't handle album art very well, and gets annoyed when itunes inadvertanly delete's it.)

This question is no longer relevant. I now have a wonderful MacBook Pro and am happy using iTunes

  • After iTunes Update, Cannot Drag and Drop Music into iTunes

    Any suggestions?
    Windows 7 SP1, x64
iTunes... eh.. no idea what version.  I've looked for about a half hour and I couldn't find it.  Rather frustrating for a busy person like me to be dikin' around in iTunes looking for something simple like a version number.
Also, the new layout is kind of nice, but in many ways wretched and tedious.  What I wouldn't give to just be able to drag and drop mp3s to my iPhone like my android friends can do.
    Grumble Grumble.

    Using iTunes 11.0.1.12
Click on the box in the upper left corner, "Show Menu Bar," or press Ctrl+B.
    Help -> About iTunes
Shouldn't take a half hour to figure it out.

  • Itunes hates me, please help

    ok first some background info,
    i have 3 computers
1 (my net book) i take to work then i connect to my projector at home and use as my main computer (now running windows xp)
2 my server pc running ubuntu desktop but holds all my media and my own personal webserver
3 my "gaming" pc (made absolete by my ps3, wii and two xbox 360s...yeah i like gadgets) running windows 7
ok this may take a while to read but im trying to explain all of my problems and what i have tried so you get an accurate idea of what i need and may even think of a solution more tailored or a method i havent thought off lol
now my netbook was running ubuntu 10.4 and doing a **** good job of it, i could add my server pc using sshfs, i couldcontrol the server pc with a terminal and i had full control over all of my programes ...then i brought an iphone, and discovered that apple hate linux users and refuse to release a linux port of itunes... there are work arounds and i explored all that didnt involve me jailbreaking my iphone (i was acused of jailbreaking my phone as the new libmobile in ubuntu 10.04 mounts the phones filesytem (not all of it but the parts its aloud to, with out jailbreaking it, and was promptly given no more help despite me explaining that!) so i switched yeasterday to xp (grumble mumble grumble)
in the meantime i had been using my gaming machine and its tiny harddrive to store a duplicate of all my music just for itunes sake (aint i kind) but since to use the gaming pc i have to swap cables about and move it, and since i now have xp on my netbook i did the following,
i installed itunes from the website so i have the most recent one 9.1.1.12? i think
i mapped my server pcs storage drive as a drive on my netbook (z: drive)
i set the itunes music library as z:\music (this is where all my music is stored and audio books and mp4 files from my camera)
it took forever but it scanned the folder and added them to the itunes library and organise them (a nice little by-product of itunes)
i disabled auto syncing as i do not want my itunes library completly on my iphone only the music audiobooks etc that i choose
and connected my iphone to itunes
    it verified it
    and i could see it
so i clicked it and began setting it up
now the way i had it on the gaming pc was to copy the files by drag and drop from my library to my iphone icon (with the exception of apps that were auto synced, though i would rather this be a drag and drop affair too...i like to control what i put on it not any of this auto lark)
but here is where my problem starts, when i clicked apply it told me that my iphone was synced with another itunes and would have to be WIPED!!! to sync with this one, (it took 3 hours to cherry pic my music for my phone and even longer wittling the list of free apps down from more then i could fit on the phone (stupid 148 app limit) down to just the ones i wanted and the trial versions of the ones i intend to buy payday. deleteing them all NOT AN OPTION
i dont intend to sync my phone with itunes i just plan to copy the files i want to add to my iphone onto it using itunes (as apple have made sure there is no other way)
so howdo i get around this? how do i tell this silly little program that deleting the contents of my near perfectly organised phone would be a hanging offense and get it to just let me add files to my phone, back up the ones that are on there etc ?

well i had deleted my music that was duplicated on my gaming pc when i was downgrading my netbook to xp for this rather silly program so i may of deleted the file, i have no back ups of the apps, but i do have them still on my phone!
    i came up with an idea, i told itunes to back up my iphone, when it finishes ...if ever!(its taken over an hour already) i just need to;
    1) locate the folder it backed up into copy all the apps mp3s and movies into a spare folder
    2) erase the phone
    3) link it to my new itunes
    4) back up my iphone again
    5) copy the apps and movies and mp3s from 1) into the backup folder of 4)
    6) restore the backup created in 4) with the extra files.
    7) live happily ever after (optional)
well thats my cunning plan and the back up is almost done (bar looks to be 98%ish) anyone know where it puts the backups ?

  • ITunes - new iMac freezes & beach balls when trying to sync iPhone 3

I have a new iMac running Lion. When I try to sync my old iPhone 3g, iTunes freezes with the dreaded spinning beach ball for ever! When I do connect the iPhone, iTunes recognizes my phone in the list, but does not ever give me the option to even erase all my old content. Stranger still - when I get tired of the beach ball spinning and disconnect the iphone, the itunes list briefly displays all my iphone content (playlists, etc.) and then goes away. We have successfully synced a very old ipod shuffle (after wiping its contents) to new Imac, so cables, etc are not the issue. we did have to de-authorize all computers to get new Imac going, perhaps a clue? I have backed up the iphone to both an old mac mini (where it still syncs flawlessly) and have migrated data to new imac so I could recover. I am willing to lose iPhone data so I can sync. I am too cheap to buy newer iphone as it still works great.
    my thoughts:
    1. erase all content on iphone and then try to sync?
    2. grumble and get new iphone?

do you guy's fix the problem?

  • ITouch won't connect to itunes, computer or wall charger.

    Hey,
My 2nd Gen iTouch started playing up yesterday, and wouldnt connect to itunes properly, however after a bit of fiddling and wiggling of the USB cord it was fine.
Today? Nothing. Won't even connect to my wall charger, the screen won't even light up when i plug it in. Ive tested all of the cords (we have 3) with my sisters Nano in both the computer and the wall charger, and they all work fine.
Is there something up with the actual connection in my Ipod? What can i do about it?
    thanks guys!

However it does, as i just discovered, still connect to my alpine sound system in my car... which unfortunately dosn't charge it (it charged my classic, stupid apple... *grumble grumble*). So its not a loose connection in my ipod... any ideas?

  • Two versions of iTunes on the same computer?

I know I'm not alone in my disgust and dismay over iTunes v.11
I absolutely hate it! But I *need* it to sync with my iPhone 5S.  ::shakes fist @ Apple! and grumbles::
As for playing and organizing my music, I rather enjoyed iTunes v.8
It had what I thought was a good balance of features and kept my library (I'm a 'large library' user) very well organized. I could open playlists in separate windows, see album art, it allowed me to sync with my 1st generation AppleTV, etc.
SO>> What do I need to do, what trick do I need to pull to be able to run iTunes 11 on my computer for syncing with my new phone, yet ALSO having iTunes v.8 on my computer for my daily music player/organizer?
There must be some creative solution to this conundrum - short of buying a second computer!
Thanks in advance for discussion and hopfully some answers!

iTunes 8 is running happily under Mavericks?  That's nice to know.
I have not tried running different versions.  It may be possible but iTunes installers probably update components in the general system library which affects all users, and I don't know even if you could hack apart an installer and just install the application if iTunes 11 would run happily with only iTunes 8 components in the system library.
Of course the other thing you could do would be to create a separate partition with a second boot system there, but that can be a nuisance if you have to reboot your computer simply to sync.
I decided that I just won't buy an Apple idevice which requires syncing.  Admittedly they are pretty much the only thing out there now but I'd rather deal with some klutzy mp3 player that at least lets me drag files to its drive than have to upgrade my whole system because I have to run the newest iTunes.

  • Reverting to older versions of iTunes

Hey, just wondering if anyone knows the best method of reverting to a previous version of iTunes. I really hate how the new one (7.3) orders the artists by now putting # numbers last not first and anything with 'A' before it, ordered under the next letter (e.g. A Perfect Circle now under 'P' not 'A'). I dont know if I should open the iTunes file and choose 'Remove' it and re install an older version, but just worried about music being wiped from iTunes and having to re add all of it, which has happened and isn't fun. If anyone has anything on that, much appreciated.
    Thanks
      Windows XP

I've got the same question - how can I revert to a preview version, and will I keep my library?
    I've got 7.3.2 now and it *****!!
The whole music stuttering issue is back and it's SLOW! Both in recognizing I've hooked up my iPod as well as with syncing and ejecting it again. Just when they improved that.. grumble!!!
(sorry to complain in your topic, but this is really really annoying me).
Anyway, the 2 previous version were running a lot smoother and faster, so I too would like to know how to backtrack.
Or an even better alternative: I really wish Apple would get their act together and get everything to WORK.

  • Just Upgraded to iTunes 10 and Noticed WORSE SOUND QUALITY!! Please Help!

I have been using iTunes as my preferred media player ever since I can remember. I have never noticed a decline in sound quality. I recently upgraded to iTunes 10 and for the very first time found the sound to be simply inferior.
Initially I thought it was in my imagination, then i started testing to see if the speakers were at fault and they were not. I ignored it, but it kept on bugging me.. Eventually i loaded up old Windows Media Player and played THE SAME FILE and it sounded WAY BETTER!!
I tried fiddling with the sound enhancer and the sound check but it just isnt great.. I played songs off iTunes 9 on my sister's computer and the sound quality is higher..
Am I the only one having this problem? I have upgraded iTunes many times and this is the first time I'm experiencing this lack in audio playback quality.. I would hate to back up my library and re-install iTunes 9... Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I do have my grumbles with iTunes, the biggest being the installer.
It's not good at removing problems from previous versions and can bring up new problems on newer versions too, they just get carried across or are made worse. Basically they should have an option to do a clean install, (remove all trace of iTunes on the computer, not including the library, just runtime files.) I think you'll find it can mess up registry keys on new installs.
Make sure you backup your iTunes library first.
So you're probably better off finding a way to COMPLETELY remove the iTunes runtime files, and re-installing it again and see what happens.

  • Three movies I bought from iTunes this morning do not show up on the 1st Gen AppleTV.

I understand some file formats are not compatible with AppleTV (1st gen) but these films were purchased directly from iTunes.  One would assume they are formatted properly to work on Apple equipment, yes?  Previously purchased movies show up on the AppleTV just fine, so I'm not sure what's going with these three.  They were from the $4.99 Sci Fi collection:  Enemy Mine, Dune and Terminator 2.  Oldies but goodies.  The iMac, where the iTunes Library lives is used to stream the content to the AppleTV, and everything that is in my Library appears to be available for streaming, except these three films.  Any advice?

I have now restored Factory Settings on the Apple TV. Looked promising until iTunes hangs everytime I tried to enter the podcast page of the sync options. And I get errors that my newest movies, created in Final Cut Pro X with the Share with 720p Apple Devices export settings are not compatible with Apple TV.
    Unbelievable.
