ITunes 7 will not recognize my 5g iPod

I have a 5G 30GB iPod with firmware version 1.1.2, I upgraded to iTunes 7 yesterday and thats when the problems began. After iTunes launched I plugged in my iPod and windows would detect it but it would not show up in iTunes. I ran the built in iPod updater to see if there was a new firmware version that I needed to install. I get a message saying my iPod is up to date. So I uninstalled iTunes and rebooted, I then downloaded 7 right from the site. I installed it again but I run into the same problem, windows detects my iPod but not 7.
So I ran through the recomended fixes, I tried the COM fix, Windows cleanup utility fix, and several others listed on the site. After of all of that, I still get the same message from iTunes. Well I am downgrading folk's, I will go back to 7 once Apple gets this whole mess fixed. Apple has also lost a purchase, I had my credit card out and ready to buy a brand spanking new iPod 5.5 like I am sure alot of you did, but I will hold on to my money.

Borrowed from the Long thread.
Here's how to rollback to version 6 on Windows without it complaining about the new library:
1) Start downloading ITunes 6.0.5 from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
2) Go to add/remove programs and uninstall ITunes.
3) Go to your ITunes directory and look for a folder called "Previous ITunes Libraries".
4) Copy your old library out of that folder, and overwrite your current "iTunes Library.itl" file with it.
5) Install ITunes 6.0.5

There's a long article about that problem:

You have to go step by step, starting with: does Windows recognize the iPod?

  • ITunes will not recognize my 2G iPod Touch

Just got a new laptop with Windows 7 64bit and IE9.  I have dowloaded latest version of iTunes 10 and my problem is that when I plug in my iPod Touch it will not appear as a device in iTunes.  It shows up in mycomputer as a digital camera but say's it's my iPod and has an iPod icon next to it.  When I connected the first time it worked just fine but I have not been able to get it to recognize since.  I am not getting any errors and the autoplay window does not pop up when it's plugged in.  Had a similar problem with my old laptop (part of the reason I got the new one) but after unplugging it a few times or restarting the computer it would always work, not so on the new machine.  I should mention it works just fine on my old desktop. Tried a few things I saw in some other threads but nothing has worked.  Not a techie but I can follow directions.  Please help, this is really irritating, got a new computer so I wouldn't have these problems anymore!

I've tried all 4 ports on my computer, none of them work. When I plug in my older ipod nano, itunes recognizes it instantly.

  • Itunes will not recognize my new Ipod Nano

It will charge but my computer says a driver needs to be installed but it cannot find it and iTunes does not recognize it at all. Any help?

Okay. Maybe they're looking for the usbaapl.sys driver as well.
Try to bring the Hardware wizard up again. This time browse to:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
... and select the usbaapl.sys file.
Any better luck with that one?

Use the 'Add to Library...' option from the File menu and navigate to the DVD.
Be sure to tick the checkbox ' Copy files to.....etc.' in Preferences>Advanced>General.

  • Itunes 8 will not recognize my 2nd Gen Nano - HELP!

I downloaded Itunes 8 on Friday and the new version does not recognize my 2nd generation Nano Ipod as a devise. It does, however, recognize my husband's Ipod Classic so the port and the wires are okay. Can anyone help me?

I think there is a problem with the new itunes version for windows : only the new gen ipods can be recognized. So delete itunes 8 and install again itunes 7.

    (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303854):
    * Restoring and updating the OS in my iPod
    * Deauthorize and reauthorize my account in iTunes.
    * Recreate the iTunes Library
I also tried this from the page (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1770668??)
The iPod sometimes forgets it is authorized to play the songs.
    If this happens;
    1 - Quit iTunes
    2 - Restart iTunes
3 - Open the iTMS and log in
    4 - Play a purchased song
    5 - Resync the iPod)
Can someone please help me? I have purchased many songs in iTunes and I'd like to play them. One thing in that last solution mentions playing a purchased song while logged into the store. Does that mean through my "Purchased" area or somewhere else?
Finally, since my iPod serial number is registered under the same apple ID as my iTunes account, why can't it check that way?
    Thanks!

I meant to mention that I bought a new song from iTunes since getting the new iPod hooked up as a 'test' and it will not play either. I thought possibly the older purchases were associated with the other player...
    Thanks

  • ITunes library will not move over to iPod!!!

Please help! I am trying to simply move my music from my library to my ipod and it won't work. Every time I try to drag the music over or import or move songs into a folder and then into my ipod, the "No" symbol (ie: NO smoking sign) comes up. Each of these songs in file form has a little lock logo on it, I guess the songs are protected. I'm not sure why my Ipod is not recognizing these songs as mine. I have a ton of purchased music that I cannot get on my ipod. It is so frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

"Some of the songs in the iTunes music library, including the song, "__insert song name(s) here__ were not copied to the iPod because they could not be found."
As stated, this means iTunes cannot find the songs.
Look in iTunes at those songs. They're probably gonna have a yellow exclamtion point in front of them.
    The other error;
iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod

  • ITunes 8 will not recognize iPod or iPhone

I have iTunes 8 running on OSX 10.5.5.
I recently updated to iTunes 8. Since updating, iTunes will no longer recognize my iPhone 3G (8G) or my iPod Video 80G...I've even tried my husband's iPhone.
It's obviously an issue with iTunes.
I've restarted everything in every combination possible.
Is this a common bug that will likely be resolved with the next update, or do I need to go to the Genius bar?
    Totally frustrated!

You might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Check out this article:

  • Have windows 8.1. Updated to the latest itunes. now will not recognize my iPod or iPhone

I recently purchased a new labtop a few weeks ago and it came installed with windows 8.  I updated the next day to windows 8.1. I then installed itunes and my iPod 5th generation and iPhone 5 were working fine. I then updated to the latest itunes. When I plugged my iPod in, I received a message that my iPod was detected on windows but could not be identified properly. The same thing applies to my iPhone 5. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 3 times, restarted my labtop several times. I have followed most of the advice on these forums and I'm stuck. Nothing is happening. If i plug in my ipod, nothing. If i plug in my iphone nothing.  Please help me

    Hello there, jlynn84.
The following Knowledge Base articles provides great pointers for troubleshooting the issues your describing:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
If troubleshooting takes you to the point of uninstalling iTunes, those steps have to be performed in a very particular way for the step to work:

    Hi,

Try this otherwise surf this site as there are is a lot of helpful material about this very problem
Plug in Ipod and when windows recognises it right click on the ipod in my computer then select format. You will get several options first try selecting quick format. then exit and restart itunes. Itunes will say it needs to reset factory settings. Do this and follow prompts. This did not work for me. But it may for you. I had to do a full format inside my computer which simply means that I did not tick the quick format box. Then repeated the itunes process. This still did not work so as a last ditch effort after all this I did another quick format in my computer and this finally worked .
So three windows reformats and three itunes resets and finally itunes accepted my ipod again
