ITunes 9 against Windows 7 x64

Hello,
I'm running Windows 7 x 64 (RTM) with the latest updates. iTunes 9 Update worked fine from iTunes 8. After the reboot iTunes won't start. It still hangs at a several MB in the task manager. Also running in compaibility mode XP, Vista doesn't work.
After uninstalling iTunes 9 and reinstalling iTunes 8 - iTunes 8 has the same problem. Thanks a lot ...
Apple - How can u set up a new version without testing the new OS?
Any ideas?
Sincerely

No, Windows 7 may not be released yet but it is most certainly a final product. It has gone gold and nothing sort of the discovery of a catastrophic bug is going to change the code. It is final, period.
Apple - like many other developers - is in possession of the final version of Windows 7. It is not uncommon for developers to release software that is compatible with forthcoming operating systems in advance of the release of the OS. For an upcoming example, see Norton's 2010 line of security software, which is compatible with Windows 7 and will be released ahead of the OS. So yes, Apple could wait until Windows 7 is sold to the public but the fact that the OS is not for sale yet is no impediment to releasing compatible software.

Itune 11 on Windows 7 x64 and iPad 2.
On 3 different PC and 3 different iPad 2 when I installed iTunes 11.1 Windows Autoplay recognise the iPad but iTunes do not.
The device does not appear in iTunes and thus neither synchronisation nor backup are possible.
Reverting to the previous version of iTunes solved the issue.
However with IOS 7 iTunes 11.1 is required and I am back with the same issue. Could you please help?
Thanks and best regards

If you try syncing with iTunes again, perhaps the phantom album will be erased since it does not exist on the computer.
Have you tried restarting or maybe resetting the iPad to see if the album will disappear?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1

• Itunes wont open (windows 7 x64)

Okay, so as you see in the subject, i have a laptop with windows 7 64 bit installed. Previously I've had iTunes version 9, 9.0.1, 9.0.2 and 9.0.3 work on this laptop (and previous versions as well). I check for updates and I see that 9.0.3.15 is out and I decide to download it. I install it and let it start up itunes after installation is complete and nothing happens. I wait a good 2 minutes and nothing happened so I decided to try the shortcut and see if it opens. I double click it and then about 10 - 15 seconds go by then I get a popup. "iTunes has stopped working". So, I try uninstalling all apple software and re-installing it, that didn't work. so then I tried doing that and removing all registry entries, that didn't fix it. then I tried uninstalling it, and going through and manually deleting all files left behind and re-installing it. then I tried doing all that and installing previous versions, and those don't work. I've tried installing 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 and neither of those work now. I'm getting quite frustrated and want itunes to finally work!

• Itunes 10.4 Windows 7 x64 Ipod touch does not restore

Itunes 10.4 erased all data on my Ipod touch on my brand new Gateway Windows 7 laptop. But, it does not want to restore. It stops at the the final restore step. Error code 6 from Itunes. Brand new machine, fresh install of Itunes 10.4 from Apple site. No problem with internet connection or any other USB devices connected. Tried all Apple online solutions , including disabling my firewall. Nothing seems to work. Giving up on my Itouch and Apple. Time to move on.

Hello Apple, this message is to alert you to an abnormality in the synchronization of an iPod touch 4 on a PC (in French). Problem: Dévut synchronization => instead of "Start" ("Début"), it's marked "Dévut", thank you to correct this problem, Thx.

Hello. Apple don't read these boards for bug reports, but the issue has been previously raised in another thread for which I have submitted a report.
To fix this issue for yourself in iTunes 10.6.1.7 open <Program Files>\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\fr.lproj\Localizable.strings in a suitable text editor such as Notepad++ and replace dévut with début in line 8543 so
"4366.070" = "Attente du dévut de la synchronisation";
becomes
"4366.070" = "Attente du début de la synchronisation";
Translated by Google. Hope it makes sense.
Bonjour.
"4366.070" = "Attente du dévut de la synchronisation";
devient
"4366.070" = "Attente du début de la synchronisation";

• Itunes installation issues, Windows Vista x64

Ok, so I have been having issues with the new update of iTunes. I had tried to avoid updating because I had heard there were some issues with the cross format compatablility of the new software but after doing a massive cleanup on my harddrive i figured I had held out long enough. I updated, and I immediatly began having issues with the iTunes store. The bar would load about half way and just stick. I lost all the money on my giftcards from christmas and I couldn't buy the new music I wanted. I tried all of the troubleshooting I could find on the Apple website as well as the MS site, but no luck, so I uninstalled Itunes and thought that reinstalling it would fix the issue. I downloaded the installer exe. but every time I run it, it tells me that "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. Errors occured durring installation. Your system hasn't been modified."
I have purged my computer of apple software, both 32 and 64 bit. I have no idea what else to do, And i need a fix soon because I have people relying on my ability to have new, high quality music on a bi-weekly basis.
Thanks to anyone who can help, I am desprate at this point.

Try following steps:
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

• ITunes 10.5 installation issue on windows 7 x64

I can't install iTunes on my Windows 7 x64 laptop. After turning off UAC, I get the following error: "An error occured while attempting to create the directory: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" How can I fix this? Thanks in advance.

I am so frustrated. I have tried everything on here and the Microsoft forums but I cannot install iTunes 10.5.0.142 or 10.5.1.42 on my Windows 7 64 bit computer.
During the install, regardless of whether I do it manually or automatically I get the following error -
An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft VC80.CRT.type="win32".version="8.0.507276195".publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b" .processotArchitecture="x86"". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x80070057.
I have uninstalled all apple components, in the coorect sequence, cleared the registry and checked that windows is up to date. I have repaired the installation of .Net Framework and Visual C++ through control panel and I still get the error.
I can reinstall itunes 10.4.1.10 anytime and it works so I find it hard to justify why this doesn't work on anyone other than Apple.
Come on Apple, or anyone else, I am clearly not alone so please get this fixed so we can move to IOS5 too.
Thanks

• ITunes 9 Home Sharing does not work on Windows 7 x64

iTunes 9 Home Sharing does not work on Windows 7 x64.
Getting the following error message:
Home sharing could not be activated because this computer is not authorized for the account "iTunes account." Please authorize this computer and try again.
This is a bug since my computer is authorized in iTunes and there is only 2 computer authorized for my iTunes account, so I have 3 more left till I should get this message.
I've just upgraded my iPhone to OS 3.1 using it this morning.
Please advise.

I am using Windows 7 x64.
I am running iTunes 9.0.2.25
I am running Mcafee.
I can see and play music from the iTunes installation on my Windows 7 machine, but I CANNOT access the library to copy songs from this computer to other computers on my network.
YES, I have enabled "Home Sharing" using my iTunes account. NO, I have not authorized more than 5 computers on this account.
I believe this to be a Windows 7 related issue, as Home Sharing worked as advertised when I was using Vista (before I upgraded to Windows 7).
I CAN set up Home Sharing on two other (host) computers in my home network and it works. These computers are XP and a MacBook Pro. I CANNOT access my Windows 7 machine x64 to COPY music from one autorized library to another. Please help!!!
P.S. - I have attempted to get this to work by turning OFF my McAfee firewall. Windows firewall is disabled.

• ITunes 9.2.1 doesn't see my iPhone 3G 4.0 on Windows 7 x64

Hi everyone. I'm running Windows 7 x64 and have been having this problem since I updated my iTunes to 9.2. The problem is I plug my phone in, and iTunes doesn't see it. After plugging it in, iTunes seems to struggle a bit, lags, before finally running smoothly again. The phone doesn't appear in iTunes, though my computer detects it and I can browse the photos like I always could. Any help is appreciated!

yup same here
its a crapshoot, sometimes it happens other times it does not
only way round this i found is to do this:
reboot windows
and reboot iphone
eventually they will see each other.
what causes it? poorly coded itunes for windows, who knows.
but its something i've had for many versions now, 9.2.1 is nothing new. but it does seem to happen more now.

• Itunes 11.1.4 update on Windows 7 X64

My "automatic update" running on Windows 7 X64 for iTunes just "bombed" with errors. The first and repeated error was a c++ related error 6304 which occurs when there is an incorrect or missing "manifest" for an attempted install. The second was a 1114 Windows error telling me that the install failed. After this occurred, I was unable to either use iTunes which had been working or to complete the install manually. I'm now without control of my downloaded content, my appple TV and my own extensive library of mp3 and other files which had been registered with iTunes. My attempts to follow posted directions to complete a "clean install" of iTunes for a Windows X64 system have only led to more problems! Since none of my Apple hardware is any longer under hardware warranty due to its age, I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. I can't get iTunes to work so I can't maintain my iPad, or serve content to my Apple TV! This *****! I have older versions of iTunes installed on older Windows XP and Vista computers which do not take advantage of the X64 hardware I would prefer to use to maintain my library and run my media server for the Apple TV which I've been using to serve content to my Apple TV for years.
When I try to follow posted directions to remove certain directories in the Windows Program Files (X86) directories to get a clean install, I find the files locked by running programs, some of which help support the x86 browsers I run in addition to Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 for X64, so I'm not about to raslhy try to blow away all the software I ever got from Apple just to get a good reinstall of iTunes. Can anyone gvie me suggestions. I'm quite computer literate and a retired software applications engineer.

I managed to take the "reinstall route" too.... Here's the lates diagnostic report from my system. I had to unistall the 32 bit drivers which Apple leaves lying around which are booted by default in Windows 7, reboot, then do a full reinstall not by downloading the full package and attempting to run the installer via the download, something that had failed a couple of times, but by "running" the installer directly from the web. The successful install was actually executed from a 3rd party web site, not directly from Apple, something that I am normally loath to do. Here's what the installed package says:

This is the second successive release that has given me fits. I'm of the opinion that the problem may have something to do with the need Apple feels that they must have their various "acceptances" of terms and conditions re-authorized on each successive version, or a poorly managed gradual migration of components from the 32 bit code base to the 64 bit code base that causes pathing problems when the automatic updater runs in this Microsoft "hybrid" 32 bit or 64 bit environent. At any rate, uninstalling iTunes completely seems to have had only minimal impact on my library. I did notice that the successful install paused and seems to have executed code which may have updated the structure of my library from that left behind after I unistalled the previous 11.1.3 version. I wish they would do a better job of testing their automatic updating procedure for us poor 2nd class citizens. I'm not going to scrap my newest intel based system just because their software testing folks focus first on Apple's version of the world.

• I have upgraded to iTunes 10.4 this morning, and now my iTunes toolbar no longer works. I'm running it on a windows 7 x64 machine.

After upgrading my iTunes installation to 10.4 my toolbar has stopped working completely.
The start/stop, back and forward, volume slider and restore buttons do nothing at all when clicked.
They worked perfectly before the upgrade, and I have rebooted/shutdown my machine numerious times and it still doesn't work.
I am running Windows 7 x64 on an HP 8000 Elite (Core Duo E8500 3.16GHz with 8GB)
Any ideas, or is it a code problem???

Well everything works fine for me using 64 bit Windows 7 on a Dell XPS.
I guess you could try a repair install of iTunes to see if that helps. Try disconnecting from the Internet disabling all security software while you do the repair in case something is getting blocked.
If that doesn't work, try another account to see if the problem is account specific. If it is Try the things in the section on user specific problems in this troubleshooting article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
However the section on content specific problems is probably not relevant.

• ITunes sync poor performance [iPhone 4 iOS 4.1] [Windows Vista x64]

I am using an iPhone 4, iOS 4.1 and am running iTunes on a Windows driven laptop, x64 Vista. I have been an iPhone user for 2 years now, and recently I have gotten some trouble that I can not seem to fix by myself, nor Google.
The thing is, iTunes is really slow while syncing. Most of the time Firefox is unusable while syncing. iTunes.exe does not take up a lot of CPU usage, AppleMobileDeviceService.exe however often does take 50% of CPU usage (running dual core, so it might be 100% on one of these cores).
iTunes has worked properly on my device, heck, sometimes it still does, sometimes even during sync it works properly fast, only to come to this slowness somewhere during syncing.
The worst I have seen iTunes perform is during "Synchronizing apps with iPhone (step 4 out of 6)". Here, iTunes passes all my installed apps (200+), and takes at least one minute per app. I have recently only once seen iTunes doing this properly, than it covered 5 apps per second, the way it should be I may assume. Also, when cancelling or interupting this sync, and than reattaching the iPhone, I get an error ending with 0000065. The only way to clear this seems to be rebooting iPhone.
I am afraid of reinstalling iTunes alltogether, because I do not know what will happen with my iPhone backups (syncing multiple iPhones with this computer; 3), apps and music playlists.
Quite some text, but I really hope it's enough troubleshooting so we can fix some of this. iTunes is just unworkable right now, and seeing as I have a few problems with the iPhone as well, it has to start working on me!
As for the iPhone problem: the camera shutter won't open up! Can get the small front camera to work, however not in Apple's camera app itself .
Please, what can I do to speed things up? Many thanks in advance!
Edit: I'm running iTunes 10.1.1.4
Also, this might be worth mentioning: I removed some backups/restore-points (using Dutch version of iTunes, not sure what US/UK calls them, "reservekopieen") of the iPhones I sync with iTunes, ones I ought useless. I can not imagine this made iTunes slower, but I can not rule out either that this problem has occured since I deleted these backups from iTunes and HDD.

No data is stored with the iTunes app. iTunes accesses data that is stored elsewhere. Deleting iTunes won't touch or affect any data accessed by iTunes no different from deleting Word not touching or affecting any Word documents saved on your computer.
Even if your iPhone's backup was deleted with iTunes which it won't be since it is stored completely separate, you can manually create a new backup for your iPhone without syncing your iPhone with iTunes, and your iTunes library on your computer which is also stored completely separate should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data stored completely separate from the apps that access the saved data.

• Windows 7 x64 bit and iTunes not recognizing iPhone 3GS

Hello,
I'm sorry to bring this up again and I know the community has seen it a million times but I'm definately needing someone to point me in the right direction. I have an Acer 5552 Laptop with Windows 7 x64 bit. It does not have the Intel P55 chipset as what I have read before in these discussions, so updating the BIOS will not work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes x64 bit, removed and reinstalled the drivers and Apple Mobile Support software (which should do it by removing iTunes as a whole) and whenever I hook my iPhone to my laptop for a second sync it takes a long time to back up and then it gives an error, then when i try to connect it again iTunes says that the iPhone cannot be recognized and needs to be restored. I have done this 3 times in the past 2 months. This is a brand new laptop that I have. There should be no reason for this to happen unless I'm missing something. Is there any workaround to this? for the time being I'm syncing everything on an old, slow desktop that has Windows XP. It's worked with my old laptop which had XP on it great but sadly I gave my old laptop to my dad which he now uses to sync his iPhone with now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..also if anyone has the same laptop model I have and have Windows 7 x64 on it..please let me know what you did if you got your 3GS to sync all the time with no problems.
Thank you very much.

4 days and no response...really??

There is no version of iTunes that truly supports the 64-bit version of Windows XP and never will be. If you search this forum for "XP 64" or do a web search for something like "iTunes Windows XP 64", you'll find threads describing the process some people have used to "crowbar" iTunes onto XP 64, with varying levels of success, none of them complete.
