ITunes Accidentally in Studio Pro Palette w/Assets folder

Is there anyway to delete the iTunes from there. It's probably making my DVD longer than the 75min than it really is...
n.

Nope nothing to do with it, it is just listed as potential source material (unless you dragged the music onto a track or elsewhere in your project)
Take a look at the other post, you need to encode your assets

  • USING I-DVD AND DVD STUDIO PRO TOGETHER

Can anyone tell me if its alright to be formatting a dvd in dvd studio pro and also Asset encoding in I-dvd on the same computer at the same time, its seems to work ok but does this slow both of them down at the same time and does it cause any problems with the formatting?

About the OP question, I never had a problem using the computerwhile building and/or encoding other than my CPU getting slow. But I prefer not using the computer while burning DVDs.

  • DVD Studio Pro won't accept my H.264 QT asset

Hi, I want to import my HDV 1080i FCP project into DVD Studio Pro v.4.2.1 to create a SD Disc. I exported the FCP project in Compressor using H.264 10.3mbps in the HD DVD: H.264 60 minutes folder. I was able to import the audio asset but not the video asset. Any idea why I cannot import this into DVD Studio Pro?
When I export this as MPG2 best quality and import it into DVD studio pro, formatting for SD (I have to make an SD dvd from my HD source material), the quality looks AWFUL. like a cheap camcorder.
    Running out of options....

A HD DVD will only play back in your Mac and the now obsolete Toshiba DVD-HD set top devices.
A standard DVD will play back on any DVD Video device.
    the quality looks AWFUL.
You are compressing to MPEG 2 and throwing a lot of pixel information away -going from 1920x1080 to 720x480. There's no way that it can look the same.

  • DVD Studio Pro not playing back audio of asset converted from FCP via compressor.

    I exported project via compressor:
    File Extension: m2v
    Estimated file size: 4.34 GB
    Video Encoder
        Format: M2V
        Width: 720
        Height: 480
Pixel aspect ratio: NTSC CCIR 601/DV
        Crop: None
        Frame rate: 29.97
        Frame Controls: Off
        Aspect ratio: 4:3
        Field dominance: Bottom first
        Average data rate: 3.6 (Mbps)
        2 Pass VBR enabled
            Maximum data rate: 7.5 (Mbps)
        High quality
        Best motion estimation
Closed GOP Size: 15, Structure: IBBP
        DVD Studio Pro meta-data enabled
This took about 7.5 hours.  I exported the audio separately as AC3. Finder plays it sound & pictures.  Quicktime plays the video.  DVD Studio Pro, when I drag the assets (video, audio) to the timeline editor, so I can play it in the viewer, it plays the audio the video is black.  No setting in view or any other setting will get it to play the video.  This project is due to ship today and I don't want to re import it if I don't have to.
I exported this project before the MPEG2 export as a Qicktime with .mov suffix.  This plays alright, but there is artifacting around motion.  I think this is due to low VBR, but don't know.  Can ayone help?

    If I may chime in...
I'm a little confused on the "what plays what" part, but  all that really matters is what DVDSP sees/plays.
I've worked on a system like yours and what I'd recommend is:
    1. NEVER export via Compressor. It's just ungodly slow on anything less than a Quad. Export a self contained QuickTime Movie using the first export option and use that to feed Compressor.
    2. Segment your output into manageable clips (I like 15-20 minutes) both to perfect the encoding and so you aren't re-encoding the whole show if something goes sour. It will all play fine as long as it's all in the same DVDSP timeline.
From what you describe, I'm thinking you're on an early version of Compressor that had A-Pack as the AC-3 encoder. This is no biggie, I mention it mostly to verify. Early Compressor was good too.
Make maybe a 5 minute piece to tune up. Just export as normal, then into Compressor. Your encoding values seem about right. Get the AV pair into DVDSP and it should play. I'm guessing that part of your problem is that the processor is fighting to handle the project size. Build the test clip project and look at it in DVD Player to view what would have been burned. If all looks OK, go for it. If not, bring back the results for discussion. This should be a snap, it's just a really big project.  Keep your head up, I had a friend do a 225-minute disk on his G5...

  • DVD Studio Pro Asset Question

I have been rendering out to .mov files using QuickTime conversion out of Final Cut Pro. However, each time I try to import this .mov file as an asset in DVD Studio Pro it gives me an error stating incompatible format. How do I need to be rendering out of Final Cut so that it is an acceptable file format for DVD Studio Pro?

Why are you doing a QT conversion?
    And what you converting to?
    h.264? Won't work.
Export QT/Current Settings/Audio and Video/Self contained and use compressor to go to m2v and dolby 2

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 freezing when I click on video tab in palette

I have a recent problem with DVD Studio Pro 4. When I open the application it appears to be okay, but when I click on the video tab in the palette the application freezes. All other tabs open okay: Templates, Styles, Shapes, Audio, Stills, but when I click on video the whole thing freezes.
This has only recently happened and I have used this software plenty in the past.
I would appreciate if anyone could help or let me know if you need more details.
    Cheers

I renamed the current pref file, com.apple.dvdstudiopro.plist, and restarted the application. This seems to have corrected the problem. A new version of the file was created when the application was restarted. Hopefully this will be a long lasting fix.
Thanks very much for your help.

  • DVD studio pro track doesn't accept HD video asset??

    Hello,
I am ready to burn my project on a DVD but it doesn't seem to accept HD resolution in DVD studio pro?
I exported my project into a quicktime movie in FCP using Apple ProRes 422, aspect ratio HD(960x720).
When I drag the imported quicktime movie onto the track in DVD studio pro, it automatically corrects the resolution setting of the track to 720x480 and 1280x720 option turns not selectable.
Why does this happen and how could I set the track in DVD studio pro to burn the disc without changing the aspect ratio and quality of the video??
    please help!
    thanks in advance.

meanwhile i have exported the project using compressor with settings for DVD. this time DVD studio pro seems to import the video fine and is able to burn.
It is working but I hope i am making the right action for the best quality result. please let me know if you have any thoughts on this.

  • "file is not compatible when import assets in dvd studio pro, my file are .mov and .mp4, what is the problem?

i have a MacBook Pro v. 10.7.5, also have dvd studio pro 4.2.2
I have a file exported from final cut v. 7, using quick time movie option, it created a file with .mov. When I import to dvd studio pro, I have an error
message " file is not compatible". shall I export again using different parm? settings? thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks, Russ. I had my problem resolved by re-creating file from Final Cut using the "Video Format" as "MPEG-4 improved" instead of "H.264" before.
My orginial source is a dvd came from Taiwan, I used software 'Handbrake' to convert it to MPEG-4. Input to Final Cut to edit it. Exported out with H.264 as Video Format, wishing to improve the image quality but run into 'file impaitable' when import to DVD SP.
Now. I exported out Final Cut using the following parms, pictures quality is not bad.
    1. File format = MP4
    2. Image size= 1280x720 HD
    3. frame rate = 30
    4. video format = MPEG-4 Improved
hope this help people who might run into same problem. I never use the Compressor, will try it next time. thanks Russ.

  • DVD Studio Pro - Letterbox from Widescreen Assets ??

I shot my video on Canon XHA1's and edited it in 16:9 widescreen and exported it as full QT and then created a DVD Studio Pro project as 4:3 letterbox.  i chose a menu template (wedding) and it came up 4:3 but changed it to 16:9 so id have a widescreen in letterbox on the 4:3 screen.  however, the whole entire video is widescreen and only the center of the video is visable.
anyone have any ideas what im doing wrong here?

Let's go back a few steps here.  As you're using DVDSP I'm going to assume you edited in Final Cut.  What were your sequence settings?
If you open your exported Quicktime movie does it have black bars on the top/bottom?
In DVDSP which display mode are you picking for the track the movie is on?
ok, i completely forgot about this post or i would ahve come in and eliminated it.  i found the solution.  was supposed to click the menu, then select "16:9 Letterbox" from the menu and that fixed it wholeheartedly.  sorry i forgot to post the resply to myself.  i am REALLY liking DVD SP unlike my avid friends all told me, it is a full functional authoring suite.  i just have to "learn" where everything is and how to get some of the things to function, like music playing while the menu is running, sub menus, etc.
thanks "soundman1024" however for your response

  • DVD Studio Pro crashes when accessing folders with mixed formats

DVD Studio Pro 4 on Mac Book Pro OSX 10.6.8
Program crashes whenever accessing my movies directory. It contains mostly HD content in MOV format. There are some MP4 and M4V in there too.
To check this I copied an MOV, MP4, and M4V into a separate directory. I added this folder to the Video tab of the Palette in DVDSP and same crash occurs until I remove all but MOV content.
Project setting is 1920 x 1080 HD. I have successfully imported several assets in MOV format.
My question is why would DVD Studio Pro crash just because it is pointed to a directory with mixed formats? Would it not just ignore to incorrect formats and move on? Why the crash if I am not trying to import them?

I was going to let this go doc, but....
I discovered the crash by accident while doing Ripple Current training - yes I am a complete DVD SP newbie! Anyway my story: Oh look! There is an icon pointing at my Movies directory in the Video tab. Gee thats cool lets see what is in it. Ooooh s&*t the program just crashed! That can't be right, lets just try it again. Now thats just wrong! I'll beat this thing so lets experiment. Lo and behold its a mixed format problem. Why doesn't DVD SP just ignore any unrecognized formats like any other program? Hmm, being the newbie I am, and there was no hint in the Ripple training, I would ask the docs on the Apple forum. They will know why and what to do!
DVD SP seemingly by default maps my Movies directory. My Movies directory has multiple formats in it from years of use. I have movies for my iPhone, iPad, movies for Vimeo and iTunes, as well as other distribution formats in the same directory. I also have been experimenting with different codecs. My Movies directory has been used as an Internet distribution point. So please excuse me if I did not clean out my Movies directory before launching DVD SP! Little did I know this would even happen. If I could "unmap" this selection permanently I would - do you know how to do this? So far I cannot find any preference for it.
In a round-about way you got there, however so did I on my own - isolate the project to its own directory and NEVER pick on the "Movies" icon. I am not satisfied since it would be really nice to block this from ever happening again. God forbid an incorrect format should ever sneak into the sacred project directory "sorry but DVD SP and incorrect formats don't play nicely", so stop doing that!

  • DVD Studio Pro will not load videos

    Hello,
Ever since I upgraded the latest Quicktime Update I cannot load video assets into DVD Studio Pro. The program keeps locking up.
I have deleted my DVD Studio Pro preferences several times with no success.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike Kommersmith

When you try to load video assets from the palette, the spinning ball just comes up. I didnt leave it that long before force quiting. But the poster left if for an hour.
I'm using final cut studio. But it all happened on my imac and macbook pro right after the quicktime upgrade.
I did find a work around, which I posted above. Instead of importing thru the palette, just import by clicking file / import/ asset. But the heck would cause the palette to lock up like that? When you force quit dvd studio it says "not responding" next to the program name. I've tried all different video files on my desktop, one at a time. But I dont think the program even gets that far, it just locks up as soon as you hit the palette area of the screen.
I can import audio, stills ,etc without a problem.
I'm just amazed that noone else ran into this problem yet.

  • Using a .WMV file in DVD Studio Pro

    Hello All,
I'm so dangerously close to having this whole thing down, that the challenges are becoming excrutiatingly painful.
    I've completed my edit.
I've exported my FCP edit to Quicktime.
    I've downloaded Flip4Mac
I've exported a version of the FCP to a WMV file format.
Now I want to import both assets (QT and WMV) to DVD Studio Pro. I'm trying to make it so there are two seperate versions on the DVD.
As I attempt to link a button to the WMV file, I get the rainbow wheel turning, and it never stops.
So, I guess there are a few questions:
    1. How can I force the rainbow wheel to quit. Until now, I've just shutoff the computer (not a good idea).
    2. Is it possible to combine the QT and WMV files on the same DVD?
    3. Am I totally confused?
    Thanks.
    DG

Ussually it's a DVD player software matter. Windows Media Player is not intended for DVD playing. Did you use it when it failed? Try with the free and cross plataform VLC Player.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 crashes every time I try to import

Everything has been working smoothly for many, many video projects until last night:
    -finish the edit in FCP7
    -send to Compressor
-convert to .ac3 audio and .m2v video files in Best DVD 90 min option
    -open DVDSP4 project
-import ,m2v video file as asset is no problem
-as soon as I click on the .ac3 audio file in the import window, DVDSP crashes with a massive error message.
I redid the workflow using little changes like different FCP project sequence to send to Compressor, different DVDSP project, different folder in Finder, and even tried Best DVD 120 min setting in Compressor... all have same result of an instant DVDSP crash when I try to import the .ac3 audio file.
    Any thoughts?

After a cup of coffee this morning I thought of the obvious: the audio in FCP was corrupt for some reason so I made an AIFF version of the audio, replaced the old audio, and then sent to Compressor.  Everything has worked fine and I have imported into DVDSP with no problem.
Sorry for the slow thought process.
    Thank you coffee.

  • Final Cut Sequence to Compressor to DVD Studio Pro

Running latest FCP Studio apps. Have a sequence fully edited and mixed (via Soundtrack) and sent the file to Compressor for output to DVD Studio Pro to create the DVD. I used the H.264 for DVDPro compression template (H.264 for DVDPro - 120 min) setting as provided by Apple. The compression file worked like a charm. I have the file and it plays beautifully in QT player. However when I try to add the asset or import it into DVDStudio Pro it says it is in an incompatible format. What gives? Shouldn't the template know how to render/compress the movie if the template setting is supposed to be in DVDStudio Pro format? Scratching my head on this one. Any pointers would be of great help.
File particulars: 3 1/2 minute movie (film student project) that was sent to compressor as a sequence file. Encoder template is set up for MPeg2 format using 7.34Mbps Average Bit Rate/23.00Mbps for Maximum Bit Rate/2.0 seconds for Frame Sync and Multi-pass and Include PCM Audio are checked (all are the default settings as provided by Apple).
Message was edited by: William Lutes

That would be a reasonable except that when I used those preset settings the file was unplayable by Quicktime OR DVDSP. QTPlayer wouldn't play it (as it was unrecognized file format) and DVDSP wouldn't import it. So I am at a loss on how to use compressor with the DVD setting templates. All I need is to compress the 3.5 minute movie file in a format that DVD Studio Pro will import and allow me to build and press to a DVD for family members to watch. I should add that I exported (via the Quicktime option in FCP) a movie file and then brought it into DVDSP but when I built the DVD it encoded the movie file in a very weird way (strange flicker when close up shots played on screen). When I just tried to change the encoding settings (in DVDSP) to allow for the least amount of effect on my file (basically the movie is only around 500mb uncompressed so a 4.7 blank dvd has more than enough room) DVDSP encoding still encoded the file in the strange flickering artifact manner.
The project is basically a simple menu with two options one to view the 3.5 minute movie file and the second is a 5 min behind the scenes explanation of the project by the director. All together the project file in DVDStudio Pro is around 650mb. So, the question now becomes: should I be bothering with Compressor at all and if I eschew its use then what can I do in DVDStudio Pro's encoding to have the least effect on the movie file (which plays fine without any flickering artifact before DVDSP gets its hands on it to build the DVD).
Any ideas? Thanks for chiming in btw, I do appreciate it.
