ITunes/airTunes Problems

I bought my airport express a couple of months ago, it works fine connecting to the internet, but I have never been able to use airTunes. The external speaker menu does not appear in iTunes. I have tried everything that I can think of, and the people on the customer support help line weren't exactly helpful. There is an article for this problem when related to windows, but none for OSX. There have been a few iTunes updates in the last few months, but none has made any difference.
If anyone else has had this problem, or if you can think of anything that might help, please let me know; it's getting very annoying!

At the moment I'm not getting the internet through the airport, I'm just trying to use the speakers. This means it's currently flashing amber as there's no cable plugged into the ethernet port, however this doesn't seem to make any difference in connecting to it, or to the airTunes problem. But yes, in a normal situation I'm on a standard network setup as you described.
As for reinstalling MacOS, it's something that I had hoped to, and would still rather, avoid. If you think its the only other option, then how complicated is it?
one thought - is it possible that there could be a problem with the actual speaker connection on the airport itself that would prevent iTunes from recognizing them?

  • ITunes with Airtunes Problems

    I have a problem with iTunes/Airtunes,
I am using iTunes to access my music collection, which i consider fairly large ( approx 80Gb)
Every now and then itunes will ramdomly either skip a song half way through or it will not cross-fade its tunes. Even though the cross-fade feature is active.
I have tried reinstalling OSX and this made no difference, I have also tried resetting my airport settings ( as i play music through Airport Express) Although iTunes does this even when playing through my powerbooks speakers.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this problem is really annoying! I like iTunes and wouuld like to contunue using it but if it has bugs in it then will have fo find a new Music Player.
    help?!?!?!

I have had the same experience. I am using itunes on windows xp. I have the Airport Express configured as a client and am using a Linksys as my base station.

  • AirTunes problems with 10.5.2

    Hello,
after updating from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 this week I got the problem that AirTunes doesn't work anymore.
My Aiport Express is connected to a WLAN (WPA/WPA2). Under 10.5.1 everything worked well (except the known annoyance that AirTunes doesn't work with FrontRow anymore, but ok...) But under 10.5.2 I have to reboot both my wireless routers and to restart my MacBook Pro to be able to use AirTunes. After waking up from sleeping modus or rebooting the MacBook Pro, Airtunes doesnt work, even though my speakers are displayed in Itunes. The WLAN router the AirPort Express is connected to shows that they are connected correctly. AirTunes tries to connect to the speakers, but it doesn't work, so it still displays "computer" in Itunes. Still I can choose my AirPort speakers, they are still displayed, but no connection possible. AirTunes network requires no password, I reinstalled both WLAN routers, green light on my Airport Express is on, I can ping the Airport Express, but Airtunes doesn't work and requires a fully reboot of all systems.
Using a MacBook (10.4.10) in the same WLAN everything works well.
Is there anybody facing the same problems or having an idea how to solve this problem (except downgrading to 10.5.1...)?
    Thanks

Today I spent considerable time trying to track down my Airtunes problem. I disconnected and did a hard reset on my Airport Express and Airport Extreme. Rebooted my computer and tried a new Airport Express.
Most mysteriously I tried streaming to Airtunes using a G4 laptop that still has Tiger on it. I cannot use Airtunes on that either. But.... before the upgrade to 10.5.2 I could use Airtunes. This tells me it's a network problem that 10.5.2 made a change to.
Next I tried Airtunes to my Apple TV - worked fine. So Airtunes is sending the music, but the Airport Expresses are not outputting it to the speakers.
Lastly, I tried Airfoil. Same problem. It says it's connecting to my remote speakers, all appears well, but no sound. The green lights are on, the music is advancing in iTunes, and if I try to connect to computers to the remote speaker, it indicates it's already in use by another connection.
I'm at the end of my non-techie computer rope. I hope we have an answer soon. I miss my Airtunes!!

  • Can't download music - seems to be an iTunes Match problem

I have iTunes Match activated, which is working fine on my iPad and iPhone.  However I cannot download purchased music onto the iMac.
In my household there is a shared iMac and each user has a different login & password.  Only I know my login password.  I have been using iTunes successfully on it for years, and have been using iTunes successfully for about 6 months now.  Auto-download has been disabled for several months now because I don't want everything downloaded automatically.  All has been fine until about a fortnight ago when the iMac stopped downloading newly purchased music whenever I clicked the little iCloud icon.  This is for music that I have successfully purchased and downloaded on my iPhone whilst at work, and now want to listen to at home.  Whenever I click the iCloud icon to download the new song I get an error message telling me that the computer is already associated with an Apple ID, and I have to wait 54 days etc to sign in with a new Apple ID.  However I'm certain no other Apple ID has been used with my account - when I go to the Store menu it is showing my current and correct Apple ID.
The most telling proof that my Apple ID is correct on both iMac and iPhone (and iPad as well) is that when I plug the iPhone into the iMac, the new music syncs across EXACTLY as it should - and it can then be played without problems.  Both the phone and the computer are correctly logged in to the same Apple ID, which is the same Apple ID that I use for iTunes Match.  Also when I click Store -> Update iTunes Match there appears to be no Apple ID conflict.
Obviously this is an iTunes Match problem which I cannot resolve, can someone please provide assistance / advice.
(iPhone 4 with iOS 6, iMac mid 2010 with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, single Apple ID for iTunes Store, iTunes Match and iCloud).

  • Need Help...Do I have The mother of all itunes software problems???

I am in desperate need of help. I have fried three new ipod touches in two days. I Purchased a new 32GB 2d Gen ipod touch on Mon. 11/24. Worked okay till Friday 11/28. When I tried to sync with new additions, a warning came up “the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista windows warning “USB device not recognized”
When I disconnected the touch I found that it could not be started. Tried a forced restore pressing the sleep switch and the home button together. That did not work.
Brought the touch to my apple store genius bar on Saturday and they too couldn’t get it to work. They switched out the ipod with a new one. Brought the new one home connected it and it received the new ipod touch software download okay. But when it tried to sync the same problem repeated…the two pop up warnings as before and a second dead ipod!
I then synced my ipod classic with no problems, so it appears the itunes software is okay. I’ve scheduled another appointment with the local apple store genius bar again.
When I took the new fried touch back to the Apple genius bar, it was switched out again. It was activated (by the initial step ipod touch software download on their computer.
I brought my laptop with me so we could test the syncing. The syncing proceeded initially for several minutes, and then the dreaded pop up warnings appeared
“the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista warning “USB device not recognized”
The new replacement ipod touch was also fried.
The tech gave me yet another new ipod touch. He had never encountered such a problem and advised me delete and reinstall itunes and call the APL CARE 800 support number and go over the problem with one of their techs who have a broad range of experience in dealing with possible PC related issues.
As my other ipod has no problem syncing from the same laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520 using Vista) I am wondering if the problem might be a corrupted Itunes software problem that affects only the touch and not the ipod classics.
Has anyone heard of a bad itunes software related problem? I googled this and could find no info. Thanks for your help!

If you click View, Show Sidebar you will see the other libraries under Shared in the left hand column. Click on the Library you want and you can expand it to select Music, Movies etc. Select whatever items you want and click import if you want to move them to your Library.
You will have to have all computers authorised with the relevant Apple ID's
    Store  >  Authorise this computer...
This is separate from the Home Sharing username and password and is to allow playing of DRM Movies, TV shows etc from the other computer.
If both Computers use the same apple id this step is not required.

  • ITunes Encountering Problems When Importing CDs

Since I allowed an iTunes update about a month ago (?), I've been having problems importing certain (apparently random) CDs. I import a lot of books on CD, and many times "iTunes encounters a problem and has to shut down." Not always. For example, the book I'm trying to import this afternoon worked fine on the first disc, but not at all on the second. I got the shutdown message after only a few seconds. I always join the tracks before importing.
Earlier today, I was having trouble with a number of discs, but it would occur when the import was much further along. I thought I'd figured out a workaround -- instead of joining all the tracks on the CD, I joined them into two sets, each half the size of the full CD. Then imported them one at a time. Worked like a charm for about 5 discs. Then I started importing a new book, thought I'd get brave and try to import a whole CD. Worked like a charm on CD #1. Then I got to #2, and not only did it only work for a few seconds before shutting down iTunes when they were all joined together, when I tried my workaround, that didn't work either.
I'm running iTunes 6.0.1.3, with CD Driver 2.0.4.3 and CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2.

Well, thanks for all the help, folks.
After playing around with every permutation I could think of under preferences\advanced\importing, in desparation (because the problem kept getting worse - to the point that I couldn't import any joined tracks at all) I allowed a version update to 6.0.4.2.
    No more problem.

  • A solution for iTunes install problems

I upgraded to the latest ver of iTunes and immediately had ALL the problems posted all over the 'net.
The following is what worked for me.
BACKUP!!! Set a Restore Point. Back up your REGISTRY. It is critical that you back it up beforehand and use caution while cleaning it. Please do this in case everything goes T. U.
Remove all references to iTunes, iPod and Quick Time. There are literally thousands and you must get rid of all of them.
Find, download, install a copy of jv16 Power Tools.
    Then:
    1. BACKUP! Set Restore Point! Back up your Registry! Did I mention backing up?
1a. Be very careful cleaning out the Registry. Take your time. Go slowly. Make sure that what you delete is only iTunes-related. Check twice before deleting. Take. Your. Time.
1b. The Registry is your PCs mind; do not scramble it. You will be sad.
    2. Using jv16s Software Manager, uninstall iTunes, iPod and Quick Time.
    3. Using jv16s Registry Finder, one at a time, search for and delete ALL references to iPod, iTunes, Quick Time and Apple Computer (BE CAREFUL; it will give you references to various 'applets" and "appletalk"; do NOT delete those. Only Apple Computer stuff.)
    4. Using Microsofts Search function, search for all remaining references to iTunes, iPod, Apple Computer (leave applets alone) and most importantly-Quick Time.
    5. When you are certain that everything that says Apple Computer, Apple, iPod, iTunes and Quick Time exists no more on your PC, Reboot.
    6. Go to www.old-software.com and download an old copy of iTunes. The one that finally worked for me was iTunes v 6.0.5
    7. Install an old version of iTunes. DO NOT USE THE LATEST VERSION OF iTUNES! Thats what caused the problems in the first place.
    8. Reboot.
Even though you previously "uninstalled" iTunes, probably using the Add Remove Programs application in Control Panel, there remains behind thousands of pieces, parts and references to iTunes and Quick Time, in the Registry, TEMP files, Documents and Settings (Application Data and Local Settings), in Windows/system32 and a hundred other places. You gotta get rid of it all.
Quick Time seems to be the main culprit, but in the end I had to get rid of all traces of all of the Apple applications before I could install again and get it to work.
It took me 3 days to figure out this procedure but once I did, it took only an hour to do it.
I've seen a couple other procedures recently posted here that look good. If you are uncomfortable with going into the Registry, try one of those others first.
And fer cryin' out loud, Apple. Yank the latest version of iTunes off your site. I did a Google search for "iTunes installation problems" and came up with 700,000 hits. Do ya think you might have a problem?
Windows XP   Try testing your upgrades before releasing them!

Im trying your method right now, when im finished ill let you know how it worked out. I agree with your comment on apple needing to pull the latest version and get a version that actually works.

First try updating to iTunes 11.1.5.5, using an installer downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Solution to the "One Moment Please connecting to the iTunes store" Problem

Thought I would post this as a new topic because I see many people had the same problem as I do (did).
I kept getting the "One Momement Please connecting to the iTunes store" problem and could not figure out what was going on. I basically turned off everything I could think of "firewall, antivirus, antispyware, you name it and it still was not working.
Then I found in a thread the suggestion to delete my iTune preferences file. I did it and voila... all was fine.
So... here are the instructions. Do this first before you try anything else. It may save you A LOT OF TIME.
For VISTA the pref file is found at: C:\Users\+user name+\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes. Delete the file named "iTunesPrefs.xml", restart i-Tunes and it will reset all of you preferences. You will need to enable "show hidden folders" in Folder Options in the control panel as "AppData" will be hidden otherwise.
Hope this helps. I wished I'd seen it earlier.

Unfortunately deleting the iTunesPrefs.xml didn't work for me and others.
Try this. Click on Edit..Preferences...Parental Control and place a check mark in the box to the left of iTunes Store, also place a check mark in the box to the left of Allow access to iTunes U as well and then click OK.
Now go to the store. Finally, return to Parental Control and remove the check mark beside iTunes Store.
Hopefully you will now be able to access the iTunes Store without the dreaded One Moment please message.

The results show that you have a proxy server set and this can often cause problems with iTunes.
The proxy setting can be accessed in Internet options>>Connections>>LAN Settings.
Try un-checking the proxy server check box.
It might also be a good idea to run a malware check if you didn't know you had the proxy server set.
You can download a free version of an excellent scanner- Malwarebytes here:

  • Latest iTunes update problems with repeated error messages every 65 seconds??

After this mornings' update of iTunes.  Problems with Applemobiledeviceservices.exe.  Error message every 65 seconds - software exception (oxc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812fd3.
    How do I stop this?

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

What troubleshooting techniques have you tried? Have you restarted the app? Have you restarted your computer?
One idea is to Trash this file; Mac HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist and restart.
