  • Why is itunes automatically creating playlists!!!! Really annoying

I just got gifted an album and downloaded - itunes created an automatic playlist - which is totally uncessary - anyone know who to turn this off! Happens when I get something from itunes store.

    Hi Katy,
Could you please, give us more information about your problem? What's the name of this podcast automatically created by iTunes? Is it named "Purchased"?
    Thanks

  • Automatically create playlists when buying song collections

I remember that in previous versions there was a setting under Preferences/Store to the effect that when you bought an imix or another collections it would automatically create a playlist. Since this setting no longer appears in the prefs as of version 8, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a plist variable I could alter or add to re-enable this functionality.

Turning off the option - I doubt - will change the 'Purchases' list. I have it 'off' in my prefs and I still have all iTS purchases added to the 'Purchases' list.
From the iTunes Help menu and a search for "song collection": <You can set iTunes to automatically create playlists when you buy collections from the iTunes Store, such as iMixes, submitted by iTunes users; and iTunes Essentials, favorites chosen by an iTunes Store staff of experts.>

  • How do i stop Itunes auto creating playlists and auto playing imports?

HELP NEEDED - My PC crashed so i rebuilt with Windows 7, installed the latest itunes and so far so good. I then had to import my music library, first thing i noticed which it never did before, when i import folders it will automatically create a playlist for some of those imports, it doesn't create a playlist for every folder or album only some almost as if the smart playlist option is activated...how do i stop this happening? Second, when i import a folder Itunes autoplays the first song in each folder as it imports so it may play 2 seconds of a song or it may play a full song depending on the size of the folder, very annoying and because i have around 100 GB of music to import very very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    D

The current build of iTunes (10.4.1.10) appears to have a couple of issues with M3U playlists. The first is that when you import an M3U playlist, the list is created, and any files not already in the library it are added to it, but for some reason they just don't get added to the playlist. Secondly, when adding folders to the library, iTunes is also attempting to add any M3U playlists that it finds as well as any other valid media files not already in the library. The upshot is that iTunes may create a bunch of empty playlists corresponding to any M3U files you have scattered through your folders.
Use iTunes Folder Watch to scan your media folders for new files (and also for dead tracks) to avoid the issue. This is a more effective way of importing new media than simply adding in the entire media folder over and over again.
If you already have empty playlists you are struggling to delete manually then I've written a script for just that purpose called KillEmptyPlaylists.
As and when the time comes that you do want to import an M3U playlist then I have written another script to workaround the current difficulty called ImportM3U which does just what it says. It will also convert and add any WMA files present in the list on the fly whereas iTunes would normally ignore these.

  • Automatically create playlists from all albums

Is there a way to do this so that I can use list view and play one album at a time? I've looked on the list and searched on the web.
I know you can make album play lists easily, but only one at a time, by hand. I mean to simply get all them in one move.
I know that the grid view gives you the equivalent, but the grid view consumes so much memory that it turns the computer into an expensive CD player. The cost of looking at all those little pictures runs to about 200 megs of memory for me, and that creates a difficulty for me. (Strange as it seems, I work on this machine, too.)
In list view, iTunes does a great job, keeping memory use within 50 megs -- no problems there.
When I moved my music from one file server to another, I lost my playlists. I had the xml file that other programs can use, but not apparently not iTunes to re-create playlists. Now I face the trouble of rebuilding them hand. It would be trivial to rewrite that xml file to change all the file paths, but I did not see a way importing the entire collection of playlists.
It would seem to me that internally the iTunes database maintains an album by album list of songs (to show you in the grid view). One more step would loop through these and create playlists that show up in list view, eh?
My favorite music player is Linux-only -- Rhythmbox -- which just gives automatically artist and album playlists, and keeps within 60 megs of memory. I tried the new Mozilla offering, Songbird, which is only in beta and has its own rough spots, but it, too, automatically gives you artist and album playlists. I don't know about the Windows players.

    Barry

Why don't you use the Browser, you can filter your list view right down to a single album using it. Go to View>Show Browser to make it visible. Alternatively press the Command (⌘) and B keys together.

  • Can't get itunes to create playlist using songs on ipod

How do I integrate the songs on my ipod with the itunes on my new computer without losing my downloads? I successfully authorized my new computer (Windows XP) for my itunes account. When I access my account on the new computer it shows all the songs that are on my ipod (downloaded from old computer) but they are in faint print and I cannot play them or create playlists. Every time I log on, it asks me if I want to copy the songs from the new computer onto the ipod. I tried this once and it wiped out all my other songs. Luckily, I still had the old computer and was able to retrieve my music.

You need to connect the iPod to the original computer. Open Preferences and select the iPod tab. Choose "manually manage songs and playslists."
You need to do it on the computer you want to manually manage songs on, not the original computer.
You will now be able to create the playlists on another computer.
As stated abive, you will hav to set this on teh new computer, not the original.
Also, you don't even need an iPod conected to create or manange playlists on the computer.
If you want to create and manage playlists on the iPod you obviously will need to connect it to a computer.
But doing this only on the iPod is not a good idea because if theiPod crashes, you lose them.
Create them in iTunes and sync them to the iPod.

  • Automatically create playlist name from name of folder containing mp3s?

Hi, if I have a lot of folders with mp3s organized and distributed among them in a way I would like reproduced in iTunes, is it possible to create a playlist which is named after the name of the folder containing the mp3s I would like on the playlist?
For example, say I downloaded a folder named "XYZ" containing a variety of mp3s. Can I then create a new playlist in iTunes and then drag the folder in some manner to iTunes so that the name of the new playlist switches from "untitled" to "XYZ"?
    Thanks

Just drag the folder to the word Playlists in iTunes.
It will create a new playlist named same as the folder and add the files to iTunes and the playlist.

  • Adding tracks automatically creates playlists

    Help!
I have 47,000 tracks to add to iTunes and when I begin the process, it immediately creates a playlist for each album.  I stop the import immediately and delete the 20 or so playlists that have been created, go back to File > Add to Library, select my folder, click Open and it does the same thing - it adds all of the tracks to my iTunes Music Library AND creates playlists for every collection of tracks it thinks is related!!!!!  You can imagine how out-of-control this would be if I were to import my entire library!!
I've looked through preferences for some "create a playlist for every album I import" or something along those lines but I don't see anything.  I'm running Mac OX 10.6 and iTunes 10.4.
Please let me know what I can do to prevent this from happening!  I want control over my own, personal playlists, which I created, then exported to file, then emptied out my entire Music Library to start over again fresh.  BUT this time, the fresh start is going to cause thousands of playlists to be created on their own.
    Can anybody help me?

You got the correct answer!  I meant to click "Correct" answer to give you the points but I clicked "Helpful" instead because I'm new to the interface and I'm really tired.
That's what it was.  I found the m3u files and moved them to my Playlist folder, then loaded up my library and ba-da-bing!  My music is back.  Thank you!
How can I give you the full "Correct Answer" points?  Moderator??

  • Burning albums in iTunes without creating playlists ?

I want to burn 45 albums to disk tonight, however I don't want to have to create playlists for each one. Is their an easier way to burn all those albums without the hassle of creating playlists, i'm surprised I can't go into album view and press burn on each album that I wanted on disk.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Thanks for the quick response,
I will just select the album I want to burn and press shift + CMD + N to create a new playlist from selection and burn it that way I guess.
    Thanks once again.

  • Stop "garageband 3.0.5" automatically creating playlist iTunes

That's the subject-line I just tried in Google search, and got far too wide an arrray of results.
It does this completely randomly, 1 out of 10 times I save a current project to iTunes.
    But why I ask ?
And where can I stop it from filling in the artist name, creating a dopey-titled playlist, and automatically playing the darn tune ?

Since I no longer have access to the GB version you are using I can only speculate. The randomness may be caused by switching between projects: When you set your info, the artist name etc. is probably stored in your user preferences, but the same information is copied into the current project and used on export. There are property lists inside the project package (at least in my GB version); you can see them when you open a project by ctrl-click - Show package contents - and browse the files.
The files "projectData" and Output/metadata.plist store the output settings. To edit these file you will need a propertylist editor, since these files may contain binary data; Xcode will suffice for this. Don't edit your projects without making sure you have a working backup. It is easy to make mistakes and you can corrupt your project.

  • If all the songs in my playlist I want to burn are mp3 format, will iTunes automatically create an mp3 CD? I want the CD to be in a format that most CD players can play.

I didn't know I would have to add more. What I need to know is in the title. If all the tracks in a playlist are mp3 encoded, will iTunes assume that I want it to burn an mp3 disk? What I really want is a CD that plays in most CD players everywhere, not mp3. I tried to look up the type of file that is on most commercially made CDs, and I get .cda. But then I get an argument that .cda is a file that marks the gap length and track info, and does not contain the music info at all. Computers are just too **** complex for an old geezer like me. With computers, nothing is what it really seems.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Ken

Don't concern yourself with the type of file on an audio CD - they use their own special format.
When you create a playlist and choose 'Burn playlist to disk' you will get this pane:
Choose 'Audio CD' - that's all you have to do.

  • ITunes automatically wipes playlists and settings

HI.  AFTER YEARS OF TROUBLE FREE USE I FOUND THE iTUNES SCREEN AS IF I HAD NEVER USED IT BEFORE HAVING RETURNED TO DEFAULT SETTINGS AND WIPED ALL PLAYLISTS.   IS THIS THEIR WAY OF GETTING ME TO LOAD AN UP TO DATE VERSION.   SO I DO THAT.  LEARNING THE NEW WAY OF DOING THINGS AND UPLOADING MUSIC FILES I THEN FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS WITH EVERYTHING WIPED OVERNIGHT.   IT'S LIKE A VIRUS BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A VIRUS.  I RUN WINDOWS 7.   PROBABLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.  WORKING OUT HOW TO GET HELP AND THEN GETTING THIS FAR WITH MY QUESTION HAS TAKEN HALF THE AFTERNOON.  I AM LOSING THE WILL TO LIVE.  ANY IDEAS ?  THANKS.

Thanks, and I noted what you said.
I found quickly that deleting AVG didn't solve it, but the fault seems to have been mine.  D'oh !
I had found the iTunes filing system tiresome in that I had to burrow down so deeply to find the music files passing through all sorts of irrelevant stuff along the way.  I found that I could move those files around so it might well be that by trying to tidy it up I somehow messed up the lines of communication.
I burrowed around in 'my computer' (the C drive ?)  ie My Computer / Packard Bell / Users / Charles / Music .....  where the chain of commands goes on even longer.   It takes some savvy even knowing what the C drive is.   I noticed that iTunes files were empty.   I found them elswhere though, probably due to earlier meddling.
Anyway, I have just spent ages copying everything into all its rightful place again in libraries and then back into the C-drive for good measure.
I was just a bit baffled as to whey loading iTunes afresh hadn't done all that but probably something to do with not wanting to wipe my entire music collection in the process, so it's just as well that it didn't.
I created another problem for myself along the same lines yesterday having made a short switch to  Windows Media Player in order to bypass troublesome iTunes.  But that reminded me how badly displayed Media Player is so I switched back only to find that Media Player somehow wiped some of the main iTunes folders in the process.
That's when an urgent hunt began and I stumbled across them elsewhere.
So you were right that Tunes couldn't update library files because, yes, files were disrupted.  But it looks to have been me who disrupted them.
It's confusing and I am still not sure but it did all spark into life perfectly well today.
For you trying to be helpful, it's almost impossible to know what the complainant has been muddling with.
I just didn't like having to click 'my music' and a forest of other files before finding the actual music.  Probably it was me who did the damage in tampering with that.
I am still a bit baffled because no hiccups occurred for ages.  And reloading the whole thing from scratch should have lined it all up correctly again.   We'll see but for now its ok having got it back to something like it was.  In particular, I copied 'iTunes' folders back into 'my computer' (the C Drive) from where they had somehow disappeared.  Result ? just one odd little point that the 'Libaries / My Music / iTunes ' now has the tag "C  " attached.  If it works, I don't care about that.  I only mention it as a curiosity in case you are interested.
In short, it looks like just another case of complainants causing grief from their own meddling.
I listen to hours every day.  I love the display.  So it really did matter to me.  And later it will synch with other iTunes gadgets that I am likely to buy for that reason.  So helpful techies like you are valuable to them and essential to me.  Thanks.
Meanwhile, I did like AVG but Microsoft Security Essentials ?  I noticed that and will pay attention.

  • ITunes Store preferences in iTunes-create playlists

In the preferences for the iTunes Store, there is an option to automatically create playlists when buying song collections. How does this work? I don't ever see iTunes create a playlist when I buy songs/albums.

  • Itunes Auto-Creates Duplicates of Playlists

Hello, I'm having a problem with my iTunes / iPod. Every time I connect my iPod, iTunes automatically creates new Smart Playlists named "Audiobooks", "Movies", "Music", and "TV Shows" on my iPod. This is getting really annoying since I have to manually delete them each time. But the worst part is that last time I plugged it in, I didn't delete the playlists since I was in a rush. Now, when I just plugged my iPod in, it created an ADDITIONAL set of smart playlists, meaning that now there's "Audiobooks", "Audiobooks", "Movies", "Movies", "Music", "Music", "TV Shows", and "TV Shows". How do I stop iTunes from doing this?

Now I downloaded a tool to delete them all with one klick. It always stucks because it counts more then 69.000 Playlists.
iTunes Match really needs to get optimised!

  • Program to Creat Playlists???

I have ~7000 songs and would like to create playlists the lazy way. Is there a program out there that can automatically create playlists based on artist and/or album? Something that looks at the whole list and goes to it. I'm using a PC.
    Thank You
    Mark

I finally turn on "Browser Columns". Pick "Genres" and "Artist". This is pretty good. Except if an artist has different albums under different genres it does not show them together. (away around that??)
Does picking just Artists and Albums get you there?
If you decide the column browser isn't for you, you could try Teridon's itunesalbumplaylists script:
    http://mysite.verizon.net/teridon/itunesscripts/index.html
(I don't know if that's been tested for iTunes versions 9.0.x though. You might want to check in at Teridons Google group for further info on that.)
