ITunes automatically deleted Podcast file location?

Hello,
I recently had an interesting situation that I can't seem to solve so I thought I'd turn to the community for help.  I currently subscribe to a particuar podcast and have the iTunes settings configured to ONLY keep the two most recent episodes before iTunes automatically deletes older episodes. Everything was going smoothly until this week when I realized that I actually wanted to keep an episode that was automatically downloaded (the episode that was deleted was deleted today and I started serching for it today).
The simple answer would be for me to just re-download the episode that iTunes automatically deleted...but that is not possible.  Unfortunately, the episode that I was saving is no longer available so I can't re-download it (yes, an episode from three weeks ago is no long available to download because the podcaster changed the episode and re-uploaded a new shorter episode in it's place).  After checking the trash, I noticed the file wasn't there so I turned to a file recovery program (Disk Drill).  After running the utility, I was able to locate all of the podcasts that I had manually deleted, but the podcast episodes that iTunes automatically removed (due to the settings I put in place) are not included in the list of files.
I'm assuming that iTunes must delete the files in some other method, but if that's the case, the files have to go somewhere, right?  Any ideas on where these files may be located...or any thoughts on how to recover the podcast episode?
Thanks to anyone for any assistance or thoughts.
T.J.

Thanks, Jeremy292.  I was looking for a word and didn't notice the icon.

  • ITunes is deleting podcast files when I don't want it to.

I installed the latest version of iTunes and set my podcast settings to only dowload podcasts from the last week (since it was trying to download podcast files that I had previously listened to, then deleted), and delete podcasts was set to off.
Now, all of the sudden, it is deleting podcast files that are 1) older than a week and 2) dowloaded with the new iTunes.
I want to go back to the old iTunes behaviour of downloading only the most recent podcast (unless it has been previously downloaded) and only deleting files if done manually!

I have to agree. I've been using iTunes/iPods exclusively for listening to podcasts since 2008, and within the past year it's just gotten increasingly frustrating and confusing to use both iTunes and my iPod for this purpose. I just found this thread because my iPod auto-deleted a podcast that I'd only listened to for 10 minutes; and I don't want it to ever delete podcasts without my consent. Truly infuriating.

  • Can I delete podcast files from iTunes?

I am running iTunes11.2.2 on an iMac, OS X Lion. In older versions of iTunes I could use iTunes' Delete function to remove a podcast from the iTunes library; a dialog box would display confirming removal from iTunes, then a secondary dialog box would display asking if I wanted to keep the file or move it to the trash. This function is similar to the workflow that displays if you want to delete a song from the iTunes library.
Over the past several versions of iTunes I have found that I cannot delete podcast files from the iTunes interface. I can remove the podcast from iTunes, but no dialog displays asking me if I want to keep the file or move the file to the trash. I must now navigate to the file's home in Finder and manually delete it from there.
Does anyone know if this delete functionality was removed altogether? There may be a setting in iTunes that I am missing but I need help being pointed in the right direction. It is frustrating that Apple would seemingly take away this function for podcasts, yet leave it in place for other media types in the iTunes library.

  • Automatic Delete Podcasts in iTunes

I have iTunes set to only keep unwatched podcasts. But if i look in the folders iTunes stores these items, played files are still present. How do I get iTunes to delete them after they are played?

So I'll assume there is no way of doing this besides deleting them manually?

  • ITunes 11 deleted podcasts

So iTunes 11 deleted hundreds of podcasts due to the bug discussed in detail at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5324634?start=0&tstart=0
Apple supposedly fixed this issue (see http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/apple-releases-itunes-11.1.1-to-fix-delet ed-podcasts-problem-with-itunes-ex ), but there has been no statement from them about this bug. Some of these episodes are no longer available, and even if they were, it puts undue strain on the podcast to have their listeners re-download hundreds of gigabytes. Bandwidth isn't cheap (well, audo bandwidth isn't cheap, anyway).
This was a major bug that no large media irganizations are covering, but they should. This bug deleted hundreds or even thousands of files on users' machines, and if you didn't have a backup, they're gone; many are no longer downloadable.
I am not a happy camper and needed to vent a little. Bottom line: backup your data, as even Apple can no longer be trusted. They should at least apologize.

  • Automatic Deletion of Files in FRA

Ok, I am about fired up right now. I have read over and over how Oracle will reclaim space in the FRA if it is running low yet I can't reproduce this behavior to save my life.
    - I have archive logging enabled.
    - I am using the FRA.
    - I have a recovery window of 1 day set.
    - I have full incremental (level 0) backups for the past three days.
    - I am also backing up archivelogs and have "all not backed up" specified as well.
"report obsolete" does indeed report the backups that fall outside of my recovery window correctly. When I run another backup I receive the following:
ORA-19809: limit exceeded for recovery files
ORA-19804: cannot reclaim 9163505664 bytes disk space from 16106127360 limit
All I have at this moment is a strong desire to repeat the word "derp" over and over. Can someone explain what I am missing (or perhaps misconstruing) or point me at some docs that clearly spell this out for me?
Or is it simply that what is being stated implies that I run the following to cause Oracle to "automatically delete files" to create space for new FRA additions:
    allocate channel for maintenance type disk;
    delete noprompt obsolete device type disk;
    release channel;
    Cheers!

Alrighty then... I think this paints the appropriate picture:
    select file_type, space_used*percent_space_used/100/1024/1024 used, space_reclaimable*percent_space_reclaimable/10 /1024/1024 reclaimable, frau.number_of_files from v$recovery_file_dest rfd, v$flash_recovery_area_usage frau;
    FILE_TYPE                  USED RECLAIMABLE NUMBER_OF_FILES
    CONTROL FILE                  0           0               0
    REDO LOG                      0           0               0
    ARCHIVED LOG          8277.5077           0              36
    BACKUP PIECE           3864.931    2938.875              13
    IMAGE COPY                    0           0               0
    FLASHBACK LOG                 0           0               0
    FOREIGN ARCHIVED LOG          0           0               0
7 rows selected. So it appears that I cannot create new backups due to the Archived Logs being ineligible for space reclamation and NOT the backupsets.
Edit: I shall now work on recreating my test scenario (appropriately).

  • How delete podcasts files in ipad.

I am not able to delete downloaded  files from podcasts

If you are used to a Windows computer and now have an iPad, you might be thinking the same thing.  iOS doesn't want you to worry about files on your iPad, so everything is run through the apps themselves.
If you need a bit more control of your files, you might like FileManger Pro, it's 4.99, but it will manage them through Dropbox, iCloud, etc.  Everything is now run throught the cloud usually, which means you might have to pay for Cloud Storage with a Apple device.  Hence cloud storage is popular these days, and also dangerous if you know a little about hacking.
Here are your file management options through another app you download with the App Store,
Best File Management with iPad, iPhone:  http://bit.ly/X2KPHb
Now if you do have a Windows, or a Mac Computer, plug it into your USB on your computer and install iTunes Software.  It will lManage your files through the iTunes Software.  First on iTunes go to your iPad button on the top right, then click on your Menu where it Says Apps, and manually control the Files from there.
Dropbox is a helpful for a lot of this and the File Manger Pro will integrate the file management there, so it's worth the 4.99 for that option too, it also integrates with the iCloud and other Cloud option you may have.

  • Automatically deleting qtch files?

    Hello,
A times goes by, QuickTime cache files (.qtch) are accumulated in my profile folder (C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime\downloads) and they can reach several hundreds of MB.
Since I backup my profile from time to time and I don’t wish back this files, I searched for a way to automatically delete them from the QT GUI, but found nothing, so I had to delete them manually.
Have I missed a better way to do it?
Will apple add such a feature, like "delete cached QT files when exiting QT player"?

Thank you Gentelmens (I think... ), the "advanced" tab has a button to clear all the cache files and folders.
Which is nice to have, but please, is someone from Apple reads this - please add a checkbox to empty the cache as QT unloads (either from a full gui or from within a browser) - it will make our OS cleaner. Thanks.

  • ITunes not deleting renamed files?

Have other experiences this in iTunes...
I'm pretty manic about tagging my files, so whenever I get files from friends and whatnot that aren't tagged properly, I agonize and do so in excrutiating detail. All that's fine.
But now that I go into several actual folders, iTunes hasn't gotten rid of all the older named files. All the newly retagged files are in their properly named folders, but some of the old ones are still in folders with old album names. There's also an abundance of files like "song title" followed by "song title 1". What's with all these duplicates? Anyone else seeing this annoying breakdown in iTunes command of the file system?
    Thanks in advance!

Similar things happen to me all the time. I have not encountered your exact problem, but a host of things like it. Maybe someone can explain exactly how iTunes "sees" audio files. For example how does it determine the order of songs in an album? I notice the file names start with 01, 02, 03, etc which do not show up in the itunes screen. But when I try to inject these numbers in the original filename to change the order of songs it does not work.
The one thing I do know is that when you remove a song from iTunes the original file is still there - it just is not recognized in your song list. You have to delete it with a separate action.

  • My 2 TB Time Capsule's memory is full because it will not automatically delete old files as it is supposed to, so it is giving me zero backup of my two computers now.  How can this be fixed so my Time Capsule deletes the old data and saves the new?

My 2 TB Time Capsule’s memory is full because it will notautomatically delete old files as it is supposed to, so it is giving me zerobackup of my two computers now. How can this be fixed so my Time Capsule deletes the old data and savesthe new?
Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem.  Working with the choices in the TimeMachine, there does not appear that there is any way to change the frequency ofthe backups either, so, after a year has elapsed, the time capsule is full, andmy only choice appears to be to erase all the current data on the Time Capsuleand start over, something that I do not want to at all let alone repeat on anannual basis.  My questions are:
What can be done to have my Time Capsule delete old filesas it is supposed to do, so it has memory available to allow my computers toback up?
Is this a software problem that can be fixed online or isdoes this require a mechanical fix of defective hardware?

How much data is being backed-up from each Mac?  (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room.  Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't.  Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).

  • N79 automatically deletes my files

As the title says, my nokia N79 kees deleting my files. The files are mainly pictures or videos I have captured. I am very sure I don't do delete them. It does it on its own and it is either photos or videos, but not both at the same time. I am soooo mad, because I have lost sooo many files!!
I suspect it has something to do with connecting it on the pc, because when I press the safly remove option on my pc the phone still displays the "connected" icon, so maybe the files are damaged when I remove the cable, as thesynchronization icon "a blue windows-vista-like circle" over the folders is still there.
    Any solution????

Hi brianthedog. I don't have a solution for you but I want to share that I experienced the same problem with my 5800...Lost about 5 videos of my wonderful kids singing and dancing. (I wouldn't mind if it were the freebie videos that got deleted.) The videos had been in my phone for a couple of weeks and then they were gone. I just could not believe that they were all gone! I am also sure I did not delete those videos. I hope Nokia takes notice soon as this is really a deal breaker for me.

  • ITunes pointing to multiple file locations.  Want to consolidate.

    Hello,
I am not sure how I messed this up but..
A couple months ago I got a external drive to house my media (music, movies, etc.) and moved that media to the drive and pointed iTunes to the drive.   Well, after review only some of the media files are on the external drive (where ITunes says all the files should be) and some are in the original iTunes folder on my hard drive.
What is the best way to take those media files that are on my computers hard drive and consolidate them with the appropriate media files on the external hard drive?
I am using a iMac with the latest version of iTunes.

  • ITunes KEEPS DELETING PODCASTS!!!!

What the **** is wrong with iTunes? I have set it to never delete a podcast, and yet it still keeps doing something with the files as they start showing up as missing. This really makes me mad.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but when you control click on the Podcast, does it have a selection for "allow auto delete" or do you see "do not auto delete"? As I said, I don't know if will do the trick, but I noticed it there only on Podcasts and the Podcast's files (not on regular music files.) It seems logical that it is there as an override to the preference for individual Podcasts, so they don't "all" delete by rule of the preference. I switched one of mine to "allow auto delete and nothing deleted after quitting and restarting iTunes, but it may take a day or so I don't know. I am interested in your response to see if this is the case.

  • Automatically Delete Troubled Files

You know those stupid files that have those stupid exclamation marks next to them is there a way to simply delete those without having to click multiple times on the song and manually do it?

  • Itunes ipodservice windows log file location?

I'm having an issue with one of my ipod touches. it's stuck in recovery mode and when I plug it into my computer (windows 8.1 64 bit with iTunes 12.1 64 bit). iTunes will not open. If I unplug the ipod touch 2nd gen, and kill all iTunes processes, iTunes will open. If I plug in my iPhone 5s, it will read it usually without many issues.(sometimes I do have an issue with it where iTunes opens but is frozen for a few minutes doing whatever it is doing.. but that's another issue for another day.)
What I'd like is to see some log files. I believe the ipodservice is what's hanging up my iTunes when I plug in the ipod touch 2nd gen that's stuck in recovery mode.
I've even tried jail break tools which attempt to fix recovery loops and or attempt to put the device into DFU mode which then I should be able to go into iTunes and restore my ipod touch 2nd gen. (note I only use the tools for their recovery options rather than for jailbreaking since I have no intent to jail break it.)
Nothing appears to work. I cannot get iTunes to open up and see this device. If I open iTunes without it plugged in first, then plug it in once iTunes is opened, iTunes doesn't recognize it at all.
I've yet to find any documentation that explains how you can turn on logging of iTunes services and or where they would be located. I'm sure the answer to my problem may lie within the logs..
Anyone know where they could be?

    *bump* anyone out there?
