ITunes can't locate my songs so I can transfer to ipod/iphone...

Hi!
I can see list of songs in my iTunes but it has exclamation mark(!) in every song and can't play them. I can't sync them either to my ipod/iphone due to this.
I think it has something to do with displaced itunes folder, but i don't know how to fix that. Please help.
JC

You can try this, called DFU mode:
1. Close iTunes.
2. Connect your iPhone to your computer and then launch iTunes.
3. Turn your iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone).
4. Then, hold down the sleep/wake button and home button together for EXACTLY 10 SECONDS, then release the sleep/wake button.
5. Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected. When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black. Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode.
6. Hit the OK message that should popup to restore your phone.
If that doesn't work, you'll have to go elsewhere for help.
Good luck.

    what to do?

    Hello,
Only option is upgrading your Mac's OSX, since Apple will not allow iOS to go backwards.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

  • Itunes can't see my iphone

Itunes can not see my iphone under the devices.  Recently used Windows Parallel on my Mac but made sure to de-select the USB in the parallels application and clicked associate this device with Mac OS and not the windows os.  I have tried un-installing iTunes, reinstalled with most recent edition.  Recycled the iphone on / off.  Removed the iphone from the docking cradle to direct connection with iphone to usb and no hubs, cradles etc.... in between iphone and computer without any success.  I know the mac and itunes are working correctly because it syncs my ipad, wife's iphone 3gs and kids ipod touch without any trouble.  I looked in the hardware listing in the system preferences and the usb lists my iphone as attached.  With the iphone 4 plugged in I rebooted my mac hoping it would auto open itunes and auto sync but no luck.

    Hello Barbara4090,
When the iPhone unmounts from iTunes during the backup phase, it can be due to some unreadable data on the iPhone that iTunes cannot deal with. It could be data saved by a third party APP on the iPhone, but there's no easy way to determine the what data may be causing the issue.
First try resetting the iPhone by holding down the sleep/power button and home button until you see the Apple logo (ignore the "Slide to Power Off" prompt).
Connect to iTunes and Sync to test.
Next would be to determine whether the issue is actually with the iPhone or the MacBook Air.
You mentioned that you also use an iMac.
If the iMac is running at least 10.4.11 and has a current installation of iTunes 8.0.2 on it, you can use the iMac to isolate the source of the issue.
If you have essentially the same information on both computers, you can do this test in the existing user on the iMac.
If you'd prefer not to intermingle any data from the iPhone you can create a new User on the iMac and test:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3309
Before connecting the iPhone to the iMac, put a check in the "Disable Automatic Syncing for iPods and iPhones" in the Devices section of iTunes Preferences.
Connect the iPhone and then right-click or control-click on the iPhone under Devices and choose "Backup."
If the iPhone cannot be backed up on the second computer, then it is due to some unusable data on the iPhone that cannot be backed up.
After the test, you can delete the new User if you created one.
If that is the case, then you may need to restore the iPhone and choose the option to restore from a previous backup at the end of the restore process:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
I would do this on the computer that you normally sync the iPhone with.
If, on the other hand, the iMac can backup the iPhone successfully, then there is possibly an issue with the MacBook Air or it's software:

    Hope that helps,
    Charles H.

  • ITunes doesn't provide the ability to upload media from the iPod/Iphone. Why is this and why can't it be a drag and drop option as windows

iTunes doesn't provide the ability to upload media from the iPod/Iphone. Why is this and why can't it be a drag and drop option as windows

Because Apple have designed it that way.
It's actually against the (Apple) rules of this forum to speculate about Apple's decisions, so if perhaps you should ask your question on a more appropriate (non-Apple) forum. If you continue the discussion here, you could simply find that your post gets removed by the moderators.

  • ITunes unable to locate my songs

Recently iTunes has struggled to find my music. It is on my hard drive (the same place it has always been). There are 3,000 tunes out of my 20,000 it can't find, although when I click on locate, I can manually find them where they are expected to be and then itunes starts playing the song.
Is there anyway to sort this out without going through all 3,000 tunes individually?

I'm having similar trouble, in the OS X 10.6.5 iteration of (latest; I did check for updates) iTunes 10.
Same symptom: iTunes opens to library on a USB drive fine, w/ playlists and everything, but any song I click on, from a playlist OR Library-Music, iTunes tells me iTunes 'can't find the original file', and shows me a Locate and Cancel button.
I can browse to a song (in iTunes-iTunes Music-<Some Band>-song and when clicked on, it plays. It won't play the next song in the (purported) playlist, so if I choose another song in iTunes, gotta browse for it again. Ad infinitum.
    Podcasts and Movies appear unaffected.
Rebooted, relaunched w/ (OPTION)-iTunes; I can point iTunes to my USB drive/iTunes/iTunes Library.xml, and iTunes appears to like that --but same symptom persists.
There's an iTunes/iTunes Library.xml on my HD and all that --but, I successfully launch to the USB drive. Which I wholesale copied the iTunes folder to, when I moved from one Mac to another (same patch-levels, same program iterations) and, all this worked up until, what? Three nights ago?
This issue has merit. I have a Genius Bar appt. tomorrow, but meanwhile, I looked here, found this discussion.

  • ITunes can't see iPod Classic

I have an iPod Classic (120 GB)
It asked me to recovery with iTunes.
When I connected it to iTunes it asked me to download last FW version,
but in that moment I had no internet connection,
so I choose to use the resident version.
Then the iPod has been recovered and it works. But obviously was empty.
After that, the computer see the iPod as a driver,
    but iTunes can't see it.
I try with another pc, and is the same.
The tutorial on Apple web site, give a lot of information to try to restore iTunes,
but my problem is not on iTunes, is on iPod!
There is a way to force iPod to recovery mode? Now I have the internet connection again...
    Thank You for your help
    (and sorry for my english)
