Itunes choppy, slow since upgrading to 10.x

Ever since I upgraded to version 10.x or the latest as of this date, when I want to listen to itunes its horribly choppy, slows down and buzzes during playback.   I've updated quicktime to version 7.x still didn't help.  It doesn't appear to be CPU or Memory related as the system is running at CPU levels of 25% utilized and memory is about 50%.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try emptying the cache and reset Safari and see if that helps.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
If you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.

I noticed that my mac is a bit slower since upgrading to Yosemite.
I get to see many times when opening an app the spinning colourful ball.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

My Mac has gone really slow since upgrading to Mavericks. Any suggestions as to how to speed things up again?

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Is there a fix for Mail running very slow since upgrade to 10.8

Mail is running extremely slow since upgrade.  Open New Message window (or auto link to new email from another applicatin), click on outgoing email address field and begin to type.  Takes 15-30 secods per letter in the address to populate the field.  Click SEND and it takes up to 2 minutes to send... another 3 minutes to show up in SENT mailbox.  Sometimes completely chokes and have to Force Quit.  Have already run Disk Utility (Permissions and Directory Corruption Diagnostics and Repair), have Rebuilt the Mailboxes, have reinstalled OS 10.8 from Recovery partition.  IT IS STILL CHOKING, HANGING, AND NOT FUNCTIONING NORMALLY.  Any Ideas ??? Please help!

I have my 'Check for New Messages' set to 'Manually'.  This is a problem with setting up a New Message to send out.  I did go into settings under Composing Tab and unchecked "Automatically Complete Addresses".  This has resolved the issue of the spinning beachball when attempting to enter an email address into the "To:" field.  So, it is running at normal speed now, but I suspect there s a bug related to that setting... something that is causing a very slow background search through existing address book directory for recognizable email addresses to 'auto fill' in that field.  I have already trashed preferences for both Mail and Address Book and that did not resolve the issue, so it must be something else.  I can live without Auto Complete.  Thanks for the input!

  • My iPad2 (wifi only) is significantly slower since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2. Is Apple addressing this?  Any way to go back to iOS 7?

My iPad2 (wifi only) is significantly slower since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2. Is Apple addressing this?  Any way to go back to iOS 7?

I run an iPad 2 on iOS 8.0.2 and have no significant speed issues (FWIW).
Try resetting the iPad by holding the home and power keys down until the Apple logo appears.
Any way to go back to iOS 7?
No. Apple does not support iOS downgrades.

  • IPad one is slow since upgrading to the "Cloud" .

iPad one is slow since upgrading to the "Cloud" photos don't load on blog pages and I get blue questionmark.  How can I force the photos to load?
I also notice a slight delay when my home screen or apps start.  Is it something I can change. I am using the most recient update for the iPad.

If there's an iPad 4, which itself would be interesting since there is not an iPad 3, but  its not on the apple on line store anyway, just the iPad mini. But the chances of getting an 'new' iPad are really good if you want to pay for it. The hardware warranty only covers you for a replacement though.

  • Full screen flash slow since upgrading to 10.6

Before 10.6 sites like youtube and hulu worked just fine since upgrading ive had issues.
My biggest issue is trying to watch fullscreen hi res videos on hulu. They still play, but it looks like they are running at something like 15fps which is really annoying. Before upgrading to 10.6 fullscreen flash videos played perfectly.
Im fully updated to 10.6.2 and have the latest flash player from adobe.com. The issue is on my 24" iMac with 3gb of ram. Fullscreen videos run just fine on my slower MacBook and a friends new MacBook Pro.
I have no idea why this is happening.

  • Scrolling Unbearably SLOW Since Upgrading to Mountain Lion

I have a LOT of Playlists set up in iTunes, and previously if I were trying to drag and drop a playlist onto my iPod, it was very easy - scrolling acted just like it did in every other program.  However, since upgrading to Mountain Lion recently, it takes FOREVER to drag a Playlist from the bottom of the list all the way up to my iPod to copy the playlist to the iPod.  I can't seem to find the "sweet spot" to make the scrolling MOVE - I drag up to the top of that window and usually it would begin scrolling up the playlists at a normal speed - but now when I point the cursor to the top of that window, it will scroll maybe 2 or 3 playlists and then "stall" - I have to jiggle up and down over and over to get it to move at all!  It literally is taking over 2 minutes to get from the Z's to the top to drop to my iPod!  This can't be right...??
Is this a bug?  Or is there another way you're supposed to do this?

How bizarre is that??!!  But yes, it worked for me, too.  Just wish you could hold it instead of having to hit it over and over to keep the scrolling going.
Another "trick" I found by accident was that if you hold the cursor towards the top like you're trying to scroll up - but then drag it back and forth (left and right) - it causes the upwards scrolling to speed up.

  • Running very slow since upgrade, please look at ETRE Check

So basically the issue is my computer has really been slow since my upgrade to 10.10. I had read some of the forums and because my Etre Check was showing a lot of problem system launch agents, I decided to reinstall the OS via the Wifi recovery mode. The first Etre check I ran post reinstall showed that all of these were resolved, but since then the Etre check has began to accumulate more and more failures. Any idea what might be causing this. I would really appreciated any feedback greatly. Thanks in advance.

  • Time machine ridiculously slow since upgrading to Lion

    Hiya,
I have a Macbook Pro and an Apple TimeCapsule, since upgrading to Lion last week, it is having stupidly slow throughput, i've had to cancel the backups as i don't have the hours in the day to let it complete.  this isn't a 3rd party device, it's a 1TB native Apple TimeCapsule.  Is anyone else seeing this speed issue?  It's making the Macbook run super hot too while it sits backing up so slowly.
Since the update it now wants to backup 8GB which at this rate will take all week!
Please tell me i'm not going mad
    Many thanks,
    Emma.

The first backup after installing lion is going to take a while due to all of the new files and such. I also noticed that lion does a lot of file indexing after installation, both for spotlight AND time machine disks. When checking out processes, mdworker/mdworker32/mds (all indexing services from what I understand) were running for 1 or 2 days, but now the HDD activity (and time machine backups) are back to "normal".
My advice is to leave your Mac on overnight for 1 or 2 nights so it can get caught up...

  • 10.5.8 & Page loading...now VERY slow since upgrade

I'm continuing to fight a very slow pageload problem since upgrading to 5.8. It appears to be a DNS like problem. Ping times to both my router and known servers on the Internet are fine, 72ms for pings across a set of routers, that traceroute fine. However, all pages on my browsers, whether Safari or Firefox are now much slower than before the upgrade. I now routinely wait 15 to 20 seconds to load pages that take Vista only a few seconds to load. To be clear, my Vista computers are fine. No load problems at all. Everything else seems to be normal.
As a test, I ran the Speakeasy Speed test on my connection, download of 1335 kbps, 745 kbps up. So the bandwidth seems to be there, per usual. It's the same on my Vista machines.
I looked on the board, and couldn't find any similar issues. Anyone seen this? Is a reinstall the only way back? Or is this something that is DNS oriented? I show my router xxx.xxx.xxx.1 as my DNS pointer in Airport.
    Other ideas:
    - Related to IPV6?
-Related to the AirPort Extreme card or it's 1.4.16.2 firmware?
    - Firewall at this point is allowing all incoming connections.
    Thanks in advance...

Same type problem. Starting two weeks ago, it is taking between 15 and 20 seconds to load any page, even my google homepage. Same with Safari and Firefox. Reset browser, cleaned out all cookies and cache, dumped and reloaded browser. Speed test shows connection speed to 5.8 mbps on a nominal 6mbps connection, so that's not the problem. Disconnected power and reset modem twice.

  • Slow since upgrading

Since upgrading to Leopard, I've had issues with a slow machine, windows open slowly, like it's lagging, typing text sometimes lags, ..... it sometimes will revert to previous passwords, and file/folder sharing loses functionality ..... seems like it needs to defragged or indexed but I can't find the option to do this

I'd launch the Activity Monitor utility, set the list at the top to "All Processes", then click on the CPU heading until the top CPU users are at the top of the list. Continue to work until things slow down, then see what's consuming CPU time.
seems like it needs to defragged or indexed but I can't find the option to do this
OS X (at least the newer versions) does a pretty good job of keeping things from fragmenting in the first place.

  • Continous iTunes play problem since upgrade

Ever since upgrading to 7.5 a cd (commercial or custom) will play only 10 minutes or so before the applications stops responding.. quitting then beginning again is fine but---wotta pain...advice (Discs will however burn continuously?)

I usually rip my CDs and play them from playlists. That seems to work fine. Today I tried just playing a few discs directly, and iTunes consistently beachballs after about two tracks, requiring a force quit.
What's more, this problem exists on the three Macs in this room, two G4s running 10.4.11 and an Intel iMac running the latest Leopard. The common denominator seems to be iTunes 7.5.
I guess it's somewhat reassuring that I'm not the only one pulling my remaining hair out.

  • Mac Mini has slowed since upgrading to Yosemite

I have recently experienced a decrease in the speed of  of my Mac Mini. I have upgraded to 8GB of RAM and still doesn't seem to help... Any suggestions?

Take a look at this article: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/five-tips-to-speed-up-your-mac/
    Try these steps:
    - Shut down your Mac
    - Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button
    - Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key
    - Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign
    - Once you see Desktop, start a Disc Utility scan to detect and repair file system errors (don't forget to choose your main hard drive)
    - Click on Verify Disc and then, if asked to fix problems, on Repair Disk
    - After this, click on Verify Disc Permissions and then on Repair Disc Permissions
    - After the process is finished, shut down your Mac and turn it back on after about 30 seconds
    Hope this helps!
