ITunes crashes my windows session

Sometimes when I try to access the iTunes store from the desktop program, the application crashes out and I have to start it over again. Then, every once in a while when the store does load up and I click on an album or on a song, the entire computer shuts down and I get a blue screen with several error messages. Then, when I restart, I get a Microsoft error message that states the computer has recovered from a serious error. iTunes is the only program that I experience any problems with. I am using a firewall and virus scan provided by Cox, my ISP. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Try using the ewido, which is an anti-melware, and melware is a melicious virus which seems to be causing itunes to crash. I found out about this on the board where someone had recommended it, and it helped. It cleaned up several cookie files, and itunes is up and running for now.
You can find this at ewido.net, and it is free.
If you go to itunes again and download or just pull up the website, you will probably have to clean it up again, unless itunes or Apple does something about this problem. This happened again on my computer after I pulled up Help from itunes today. Seems like many itunes users are having this problem. I saw several people asking for help with this.
Don't know what to do for long term. Hope itunes or Apple corrects this. It is really frustrating. Sure hope it doesn't mess up my ipod.

If the problem is iTunes slowing down and not appearing to run correctly, you should check  this Apple article out-> Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
You may want to try resetting Winsock as a temporary fix.
    1. To do so, please do the following in an administrator user:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Right click All Programs and choose Accessories > Command Prompt. Choose to open as an administrator.
Windows XP: Click Start > Run and type in cmd.
    2. Enter the following command:
    netsh winsock reset
    3. Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note:  If the issue returns, third-party software may be reinserting the LSP.

iTunes and QuickTime have never been supported on the 64-bit version of Windows (look here for the official statement). Some people have managed to get it working (at least tolerably), but from what I've read, a recent update from Microsoft has caused a lot of problems. You might try rolling back recent Windows updates and see if you can get things working again.

  • Converting QuickTime Videos For iPod, iTunes Crashes on Windows

I was trying to convert some Quick Time movies (RvB Seasons 1-3) for my iPod, this is not my first time doing this but this is the first time I am having this problem. One day I open iTunes and try to convert these movies, like 10 seconds later the windows thing comes up and says “iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close” in the technical stuff it gave me it pointed to quicktimeessentials.qtx as the problem. So I searched for this file and deleted it Problem Solved! Or at least I though so when iTunes was able to convert my videos but now no Quick Time video will play right, so then I put the Quick Time file back where it was supposed to be, I can now watch my Quick Time movies but iTunes keeps crashing. Somebody Please Help!

    hiya!
I can now watch my Quick Time movies but iTunes keeps crashing.
just checking. is it currently crashing with that message when you try to launch itunes, or just when you try to convert those videos?
if it's just when you convert those videos, let's check to see if it's a problem with every file, or just the ones you have at the moment. will itunes crash if you try converting the sample file from this document?

  • ITunes crashing in Windows 7 when using Match

Have tried to uninstall iTunes. Have tried to allow traffic through antivirus (Kaspersky) everytime on the 2nd or 3rd step iTunes crashes.

Some music files can cause crash iTunes. I tracked down such files in my collection and just removed it from itunes while it was matching files. It worked, iTunes does not crashed any more. After that I could add them to my local collection and set to not upload them to iCloud. In my case the files causing crashes of itunes were those over 100MB.

  • ITunes Crashes on Windows 7 64-bit

I've been having a lot of problems with iTunes recently, crashing randomly.  Sometimes it crashes at start up, sometimes when importing a CD, sometimes when synching my iPhone 4, sometimes just when I plug my iPhone into my computer.  I had trouble finding a reference to the fix, and wanted to post this link.

For me, when I created a new user account, with Admin priveledges, iTunes seemed to work.  I tried the first couple of suggestions, in the article in the section labeled User Specific Troubleshooting, and iTunes has been working ever since that time.  Since I had trouble finding a forum post that referenced this article, I decided to post about it.  I'm sure there are forum posts that list it, but I didn't find them in my searches.  So, in case someone else is having the same problems, or similar, try the suggestions on the page above.  Good luck!
