Delete the shortcut and make a new one. The 'real' application will probably be fine if you launch it from the Start/Programs menu.

  • Outlook won't close with iTunes 10 Addin

    Hey Guy's
since I updated to iTunes 10 (on two pc's) my Outlook 2007 won't close completely. There is always a grey Outlook icon in the statusbar and I have to close it with the taskmanager. If I deactivate the Outlook Change Notifier (an iTunes Addin) my Outlook will work fine. Is there anybody else with this problem? Any solution? I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

I'm having a similar problem - since I updated to iTunes 10, my Outlook 2007 just isn't working properly. When I close Outlook, it doesn't compeltely close. Like you, I have the grey Outlook icon in the status bar and have to close it (which probably isn't doing wonders for the .pst file) Disabling the Change Notifier doesn't seem to make any difference. Also when I actually have Outlook open, my messages are not being sent or received correctly - it seems to just sit there saying receiving message X of X and doesn't do anything else.

  • ITunes won't close down.

Hi. First time of asking a question so hopefully I will include all sufficient information.
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.
iTunes latest version as of today (15 April 2015).
iTunes won't close down.  Continually freezes and I have to use Task Manager to close it down.  Any suggestions?

    Hey Dave Hossack,
I understand that you are experiencing an issue with iTunes on your Windows computer. Here is an article for you that can help you address this iTunes issue with some troubleshooting steps:

  • Itunes won't close

I got the latest iTunes on windows XP 64. I can open it up but when I go to close it. It won't close! I just keep pressing the exit button it won't close. Not even Alt+F4 works. Or File>Exit.

I have the same problem intermittently (though I have XP, not XP 64).
I can tell when the program is not going to close properly because iTunes DJ stops updating properly...it'll keep playing, but the counter will still be stuck on a previous song, and once I force-quit through Task Manager, none of the "last played" times from that song on are saved.  Happens at least once a day since I upgraded from 9 to 10.5.
When iTunes DJ is updating properly, though, it closes without a hitch.

  • HT1751 I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I use a Flash Drive to do so?

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool  to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to  'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)
    Thanks for the info.

  • ITunes store won't open after Update - NO Error message!

    Hello everyone!
This morning I updated my iTunes to 11.1 upon being prompted (when I tried to connect my new iPad Mini). I run Mac OS X 10.6.8. The macbook also updated other softwares (auto update). I restarted my laptop, and now the iTunes just won't open. The first time I click it in the dock, the icon would just bounce thrice before settling down, and then nothing happens. Upon clicking again, it would bounce just once, but nothing opens. There is no error message either.
I have tried restarting, and also tried software update for the OS. I have checked the parental controls and administrative powers for the user.
    Kindly help!

Jason,I used the troubleshooting link you gave and so far have 1.Fixed Digital Signing for Windows drivers.(didn't help) 2.Removing Itunes configuration files.
In this one I was told to delete the SC info.sidb file (I didn't have one of these when I got to the folder where it was supposed to be)The thing I haven't done is the mscofig.instruction. I was saving it for last as it sounded like it could really make a lot of changes to my computer. The Itunes installation icon is still on my desktop so I clicked on it and there was a link that said it would repair missing or damaged files in the Itunes software. It didn't help either. I can click on Itunes all day long and it won't open.I can't access the library either. I am going to do the last step you suggested and uninstall my security software and see if that helps. I appreciate all the help Jason.

  • ITunes 8 won't burn a CD

iTunes 8 won't let me burn a disc. It gets as far as finalizing and then freezes. I have wasted to discs with this problem. I have been able to burn discs before, but now it is not working. Just last week I burned a disc with no problem. I am using8 8.0.1. I thought about downgrading to iTunes 7, but then I won't be ab;e to play video, which is why I upgraded to 8 anyway. Does anyone know a fix for this or is this an apple bug? Thanks ahead of time for any help.

First and no I did not update. I did it on it's own.
Nope. Didn't work. The first try the disc processed in a second and popped out unburnt. When I put in back in it was considered a blank disc. iTunes was totally unresponsive and had to be forced quit. The second time I took the disc the new window that used to be in the Prefs popped, I set my settings and hit burn. My list was checked, the disc was "initialized", it said that the first song was being burned which took a second. The it says that it is finalizing the disc longer before it should. Sits there for a while . . . still finishing . . . . still . . . still . . . . finishing . . . . still . . . . I'm thinking the way it was with the iDisc and your write would take a second but the "finalizing" was the actual write that would show a spinning candy bar for the time it actually takes to write. Still finalizing. Still finalizing . . . . Oh and the first one after the disc ejected all windows became unresponsive, the app would not quit and had to force quit. Still finalizing and I have no idea what is happening or how long this is going to take. I'm not getting anything like we use to get in the progress window; showing each song as is was being processed and burnt with a time and progress thermometer.
Yup. Burning in iTunes 8.0.1 is broken.
    Oh, still finishing.
    20 minutes later . . . still finishing . . .
    40 minutes . . . . still finishing . . . .
Tried to stop it and it says that it will break the disc if I do and gives the option to or not.
iTunes screwed up my library ages ago and this might be the perfect reason to dump everything and start over with 7.2 that was the last best version that I remember.
    Still finishing . . . .
Stopped the disc. It says it is Canceling and it may take a minute or two. If that is on the Disk Util scale this could be a month.
    10 minutes still canceling . . . .
Since the disc is supposedly trash, I'm Force Quitting iTunes . . . .
Trying to eject via the keyboard, it won't. My second burner ejects just fine. Saved this post and will restart to see if the disc will eject. Be right back . . .
The disc ejected right before the desktop came up. And when mounted came up as a bank disc which the OS tried to burn, did, and it failed at the finish. Ejected it and remounted it, it came up as a blank disc that I then burnt some stuff that failed during finish. then in Toast it saw it as a blank disc and burnt some stuff and failed during the lead out. So I son' think it's completely iTunes, but had noticed in 10.5.x I can no longer burn on the run like I use to in 10.4.x. I did more testing with other media and applications (up to date) and nothing works as is used to. So . . . .
Apple so sad. I remember in OS9 every update was new, exciting, you'd have cool new features and a faster smoother running machine and it didn't leave a mess. Oh well . . . .

  • New iTunes update won't open.  First it said Apple Mobil Device failed to start.  So I Stopped then Started Apple Mobil Device.  Now iTunes still won't load.  Tells me MSVCR80.dll was not found.  Wants me to reinstall app.  Will I lose all my music?

Current iTunes update won't load.  Tells me MSVCR80.dll was not found.  Wants me to reboot.  If I reboot, will I lose my music?

    Hi DDay@55,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
To resolve this error, I recommend completely removing and reinstalling iTunes and all of its related components using these steps:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
You can find the article with these steps and more information here:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
This process should not affect any music or content on your computer, but you may want to
back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
    Best,
    Jeremy

  • ITunes just won't open?

i don't know what is wrong with my iTunes. i double click on the shortcut and iTunes just won't open. then i try and click on it from the start menu, and nothing again. i have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes about 3 times and still nothing changes. no error window or anything pops up even.
can someone help me please? thank you, i would really appreciate it.

I was having the same problem - this fixed it for me:
    Remove iTunes Preference files
Some of the files that iTunes uses to store settings and preferences may be corrupt and cause issues. iTunes has two folders where preferences are saved. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The location for the two preference folders are:
    * C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
    * C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
There's another thread with a link to a larger article; this is part of it.

  • Itunes store won't load\open

So basically yeah, my itunes store won't open at all. I have no error messages, nothing. I can see its loading, then it stop and i just have a blank page.
    I have a iMac with Os X Lion 10.7.5 and iTunes 11.0.2.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi luluflower84,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If you're unable to access the iTunes Store, I would first try quitting the app if it is open:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If the issue continues, try restarting and resetting your iPhone:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If the issue continues, try accessing the iTunes Store through another app, such as the Music app, to see if you can access it that way.  The screenshot on this page shows the store link in the upper left corner:

  • HT1689 The iTunes Store won't open on my iPod, what happened?

My iTunes Store won't open. When it is clicked, it just flashes back to the home screen. I restarted it and turned it off and back on, but nothing helped. This all started after I upgraded to iOS 7.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    If no joy...
    Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.

  • Synch Issues : iPod iTunes Desktop

I reinstalled the OS on my laptop (XP Pro). When I did, I had to re-install
iTunes. Now when I try to synchronize my iPOD Nano, the iTunes Desktop does not recognize the Music (Albums) on my iPOD. I really want to do a one way music sync from my iPOD to iTunes (so that iTunes will recognize what I have on my iPOD).
When I try to sync albums from iTunes to iPOD now, the message says that all data on iPOD will be replaced by iTunes Library. This is not cool, because all twenty or so 'iPOD' Albums will be wiped and replaced with one or two Albums from my new iTunes install.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

After installing itunes, my desktop computer doesn't recognize my internal cd rom/burner.  I removed itunes and it works ok and when I reinstall itunes it won't work again.  I went into the windows registry files and deleted the lower filter which is one correction for this and it worked ok until the next itunes upgrade and now it won't work again.  If anyone knows what to do please let me know.  My device manager shows a code "10"

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". (If you're running iTunes 11.0.x you'll need to bring up your menu bar first to see the Help menu.) Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)
