Itunes error on start up

When i open itunes, you just see the outline and then it says an error occured and closes. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling about 20 times. Whats gooooing ooooooonnnnnnnnnn?

hi Sinnful Dayz!
okay, i think we're still probably on the right
track. it's a little disconcerting that QT refused to
launch without an error message for you. but
when you did the standalone reinstall:
"Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed:
QTInstallCode.QuicktimeUnInstallProc
... in this context, that usually indicates a broken
existing QT where the QT installation configuration
information has been compromised in some way. so
we'll keep proceeding under the assumption that your
itunes error message is being caused by a
broken QT.
we'll try applying the standard tactic for getting
past the 0x80040707.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp
utility. use it to remove any existing
QuickTime installation configuration on the
PC:
Descrip
tion of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
... then use the QuickTime component of the
complete uninstall instructions in the following
document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover
QuickTime program files and folders:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime
software in Windows
once we've scraped away all the old QT, let's try
another careful standalone QT reinstall.
does the QT reinstall go through okay this time? if
it does, does your itunes launch again?
love, b
Got this far with same exact problem, b, but I can't scrape away the old QT. I get a access denied error when I try to delete the QT folder, specifically the qttask.exe file. I also can't stop the process in the Task Manager, same reason.
I am logged in as the admin, I can't think of anything else?!

  • ITunes won't start up, no error message, appears in task manager

    Hi,
I have been running this system since quite a while and haven't had problems with iTunes for a while. I updated to the recent version not to long ago and it worked then once or twice, I even bought a game for the iPod (Tetris)...
Now iTunes doesn't start up anymore. I haven't installed anything new and I am virus free.
I try to launch iTunes and but the UI will not appear. I can see that it's loaded (or stuck somewhere) as the application is in the processes tab in the task manager and doesn't disappear.
Obviously I did the usual: curse a lot, removing everything incl. any traces of quicktime and itunes in the reg, 'application data' folders, the mysterious 'My Music' directory in my docs, reinstalling different versions of iTunes and quicktime, running hijack-this to see what processes I can't recognise, curse even more (**** MS monopoly) and reading a lot on the net and on this particular website.
There are holes in my firewall to accomodate iTunes. I use Sophos anti-virus software (not becasue I chose too).
Is there anything you could recommend?
Reinstalling windows is really not an option here, as I use this computer for work too.
I also use Linux on a seperate partition (Fedora 7), but I know that there were issues with iPod support on Linux and it once broke the whole **** database. Maybe Apple can one day release some software for Linux users? Afterall OS X is just a unix based OS anyways...
Please help, I wasted so much time on this already

    Hi, dengar.
Let's try to get an idea of what might be going on by running through b noir's "smack" for iTunes launch failures.
Based on your original post, I'm going to bypass some of the preliminary questions and make the following assumptions - if any of these assumptions are wrong, post back and we'll follow a different path.
    Assumptions -
    1) There is no error message associated with your iTunes launch failure.
    2) QuickTime itself launches on your computer without any problems.
    3) When you reboot your computer and attempt to launch iTunes, iTunes.exe appears and remains in the Processes list.
If those assumptions are all true, I'd refer you to this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.

    Hello, Jdragone.
Thanks for the question.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

If you receive any errors when uninstalling any components of iTunes, try the steps in the article below for each component that gives you an error.

  • I can not open iTunes. It started when an upgrade appeared. Now I get this message when I try to open itunes. can not find MSVCR80.dll     Then I get ERROR 7 (windows error 126)   I tried reinstalling iTunes but that did not help. Please Help Me!

I can not open itunes on my computer. It started when an upgrade appeared. Now I get a message that states This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. I tried to reinsall the application but it did not help. I also get a message iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes   Error 7 (Windows error 126)   Please Help me!

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • My itunes will not start in Win XP. I get an error that says MSVCR80.dll can't be found. I am scared if I just reinstall iTunes that I will lose all my music and apps that are in the old itunes. What can I do.

My iTunes will not start in Win XP. I am getting an error that says MSVCR80.dll can't be found. I am concerned that if I just do a reinstall
of  iTunes it will overwrite or delete all the music and apps I have on the current app that won't start. When I boot the PC I get the following:
APSDaemon.exe - unable to locate. MSVCR80.dll not found. Reinstalling application may fix this problem. How can I get iTunes started without losing
all my music and apps? Thanks

It won't unless a problem occurs. Back them up, uninstall iTunes and all related components, and reinstall them.

  • ITunes will not start:  Get same error message ever time...

I installed iTunes 6 and quicktime and now it will not start up at all. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling as many have. The only difference is I am actually getting an error message. I do not get an hour glass as many have. I have tried deleting the suggested file found at: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info
This did not work either. I keep getting the following error window, and never see iTunes even try to launch: PLEASE HELP!!!!
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienence. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on may be lost. For more information about this error click here"

    hi Josh!
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienence.
the first thing i check for with one of those is a broken quicktime. does your quicktime currently launch? if it doesn't, try these techniques:
    b noir, "iTunes doesn't start... Quicktime not installed ERROR 2093" #5, 03:28pm Nov 8, 2005 CDT
    keep us posted.

Same problem today. Took five times to reinstall without any error messages. Apple has posted a way to fix and you should follow their's first. I finally got to upldate correctly by doing their fix but with one difference. I did the following:
    1) Went to the C:\program files (x86)\iTunes and C:\program files\iTunes folders and moved every file ending in .dll to the desktop (even if two files in same location had the same name, just replace)
    2) Restarted computer and still got error message
    3) Uninstalled all apple programs possible in the following order......itunes, apples software update, apple mobile device support, bonjour, and apple application support.....all performed using the microsoft control panel
    4) put all the .dll files on the desktop in the trash and emptied (this is a step apple support did not specifically put in their fix but for a final try I wanted to delete everything apple).
    5) Restarted computer.
    6) Re-installed itunes from apple website
No error messages during re-install and was able to open shortcut in one try. Even updated my ipad to make sure everything was working.

Can Anyone help me as I can’t use my ITUNEs and am Handicapped when it comes transferring ITEM on and OFF my IPHONE...
    Thanks

That error suggests you may have a QUicktime problem rather than an iTunes problem.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them. They are bad news for Quicktime.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Why does my itunes crash after start up with an "APPCRASH" error every time i open it?! I have been trying to fix this for weeks but all i can do it re-install it every other day which does nothing!

Why does my itunes crash after start up with an "APPCRASH" error every time i open it?! I have been trying to fix this for weeks but all i can do it re-install it every other day which does nothing! I am desperate to get access to my itunes to get music on my phone and all of this just makes me want me to sell my iphone since there is no other way to add music to my phone. If things go get sorted soon you can say goodbye to my support.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I've tried numerous things including solutions posted in this forum but I can't fix it. I'm running windows 7 64bit btw. If anyone could please help that would be great, thank you.

the program can't start because avfoundationcf.dll is missing from your computer. try reinstalling the program to fix this.
Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

  • Please help - iTunes won't start anymore: unknown error -69

    Hello out there,
please can anybody help me: all of a sudden my iTunes won't start any more - it only shows a message stating an unknown error -69 and then quits.
I did not change anything on my system before that, so I just don't know what could trigger that...
I am using iTunes 7.0.2 on Windows XP SP2, both German versions.
Before posting this question I searched the archives and tried the following, all to no avail:
    1. disabled "safe mode" in QuickTime audio options -> problem remains
    2. set speakers to "stereo headphones" in Windows sound options -> problem remains
    3. deinstalled iTunes, downloaded the installation file again and reinstalled it -> problem remains
    4. deinstalled iTunes and QuickTime, downloaded QuickTime stand-alone version, installed this and afterwards iTunes again -> problem remains
    5. deinstalled iTunes and QuickTime again, deleted all iTunes and QuickTime data folders, reinstalled everything again -> problem remains
    6. ran a CHKDSK an the drive iTunes is on -> no problems found
It still won't start, always giving this unknown error -69.
Please, does anybody know what to do?
Any hints and help are much appreciated!
    Thanks a lot
    and best regards
