ITunes for Windows 2000
Where do I find a version of iTunes to work with Windows 2000? My child just got an iPod Nano 3rd Generation and we need to be able to put music on it.
The new 3rd Generation Nanos require iTunes version 7.4 minimum. I don't think iTunes 7.4 will run on Win 2000.
To run iTunes on Windows 2000 you may need iTunes version 6, but again this won't work with the new Nano.

Not necessarily, you sort of can, but you'll need to get a REALLY old version of it, like maybe iTunes 4.1,
Really depends on the specs of your computer as well.

it will be very likely not to work on Windows 2000 and also not being accepted by Apple's servers. -

Antony.Whatever. The fact remains that it's highly unlikely, though no user can ever say for sure, that any future version of iTunes will support Windows 2000. So your choices are 1) to upgrade to XP or Vista or 2) don't buy any of the new iPods or an iPhone. Sorry, but that's the status as of today and probably how it will remain.
Microsoft is going to be supporting it until 2010.
Just FYI, it's true that Microsoft will be "supporting" Windows 2000 until 2010, but though Microsoft continues to provide security hot fixes and paid support, they will no longer provide any non-security patches. So any bugs or incompatibilities that remain will be there forever, and none of the support architectures, drivers, etc. that exist in newer versions of XP (on which the new versions of iTunes and QuickTime may depend) will ever appear for Windows 2000.
So your call. You know your options at this point. -

Sup Guys, I got my son an iPod Nano for his birthday and was trying to download iTunes on his computer but i see it's for windows 2000 or better. He has Win 98 SE on his PC is there any other way to iTunes on this computer??? or another alternative to get music into the iPod????? Thanks.
iTunes for Windows was first introduced for Windows 2000 so there isn't a version that works natively with either 98 or ME. You could have a look at XPlay or Anapod, both will work with Windows 98/ME. However both of these are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP if your computer will run it. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:

I have just downloaded the new iTunes software and QuickTime software for my iPod Video, and they have both been 'Installed Successfully'. But when i try to open iTunes i get this message entitled 'QuickTime Unavailable':
"iTunes requires Windows 2000 or later.
Please make sure compatibility mode is disabled in the Compatibility tab of the properties for iTunes.exe."
Now my computer is a Windows XP, and i selected this when i downloaded the software. And i made sure that the Compatibility mode was off. I have got the newest version of QuickTime which came with the iTunes download, and have restarted my computer after downloading it as it said. I feel completely stuck. Any ideas why iTunes isn't running?Okay, then that is the appropriate Windows OS & SP for iTunes to run correctly, it may be a installation error, I'd try going to the download page again, downloading it then when prompted click Repair. It'll repair all the missing startup files and such that iTunes needs to run. If that doesn't work, completely uninstall iTunes, install it again, and restart.

I put my cd in to install Itunes ( the one that came with my Ipod) and i have windows 2000 on my computer. When it started to install it said something about an error and that i need to upgrade my computer to either windows 2000 or XP. Im confused because i already have windows 2000. what should i do? please help!

I am running iTunes for Windows 10.2.2 on Windows 7 Home. I have my iTunes library on both this computer and another authorized machine running Windows 7 Professional. I have a large but not enormous library, as I'm one of those people who doesn't pirate, use torrents, borrow from a dozen friends, or whatever other shades of gray you might imagine. It's mostly iTunes purchases with my old CD collection imported. I have started using the following technique to sync my libraries between my two authorized computers, an ability which you can probably all agree should one day be added to iTunes -- that would be different from Home Sharing, because the music would be stored locally and thus available on the road. With the added benefit of the entire library being backed up on the other machine in real-time. Anyway, when I switch from my desktop to laptop and vice versa, I use the following technique:
Connect both machines to the home network. One machine is the "Active" machine, which has most recently been used for iTunes media, purchases, ratings, etc.
On the "Active" machine, File-->Library-->Export. Save the file as "Library.xml" on the shared drive of the other machine.
Right-click "Library.xml" where it's been saved, and open another file that has two lines in it: The root path of the iTunes library on one machine and the root path of the iTunes library on the other machine.
Do a find/replace all in Notepad to make the library XML file point to where the files will be saved on the "Inactive" machine.
Run Microsoft SyncToy to synchronize the files between both music libraries; the most recent files win. This avoids copying the entire multi-gigabyte library over the network.
Open iTunes on the "Inactive" machine.
Go to Music, Select All, Delete. Keep files.
Do the same for Movies, Music Videos.
Go down to Playlists, select the top one, hold down the delete button until they're all gone.
File-->Library-->Import Playlist. Choose the "Library.xml" file you saved.
First a status bar comes up that says, "Importing library." It has the continually-scrolling progress bar, not the one that starts on the left and steadily creeps right. Then after about 30 seconds, that clears out. Wait. Typically a few minutes. Eventually a status bar will pop up saying something like, "Evaluating gapless playback information," or something like that.
The "Inactive" computer is now the "Active" computer. I can now play my library, it has all my playlists and metadata from the other machine.
Delete all the duplicate playlists named "Music," "Genius," "Purchased," and "iTunes DJ."
Well, I just upgraded to iTunes 10.2.2 a few days ago and tried to do this again like I've done it dozens of times before. Now, iTunes just goes unresponsive after the library import. It got through the "Importing library" bar to the long wait and stopped. I can still multiprocess and use other programs, but iTunes is hovering back there not responding to clicks. Task Manager doesn't seem to think iTunes is using my CPU, and I don't see my hard drive rattling. Any thoughts on why iTunes might hang up when importing a large library?
... Also, please help lobby Apple to come up with a network sync tool built into iTunes for a user with multiple authorized computers. Something different than Home Sharing so I can pull my laptop off the network and still have the synced library with me. And all my metadata changes will sync. The technique I use seems a little kludgey, don't you think?iTunes isn't an editor. You need an app that's intended for editing audio files, like Adobe Audition (http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html) or Audacity (free in the App Store).

'm having a problem with downloading and installing the new version of itunes for windows (11.1.4) I have done everything the troubleshooting article has said and it is still not working properly. I have even done a repair to see if that works and it has not. Has anyone else found a new way to get it working?

Initially iTunes would not run although it had been running quite well up until now. Suddenly received this error on PC start-up "The program can't start because MSVC80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Research on Net pointed me to iTunes as the issue. Tried to start iTunes and received that message again. Tried installing latest version of 64-bit iTunes and received the subject message part way through the install: Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Keep getting this error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
iTunes has been running great on this PC for years. What's up?

I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes for Windows and now iTunes crashes everytime I launch it. I have tried re-downloading and selecting Repair with no luck. Any suggestions?

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

Family Sharing and iTunes for Windows
My wife and I have family sharing set up and working fine across iOS devices and my macs. She uses iTunes for windows and we can't find how to access my purchases on her machine. We looked in the same place it is in iTunes for Mac and there is no place to drop down and look at the other users stuff.
@TigerFrank, not sure whether you got your answer but for any reason if you haven't then here are the steps to see the purchases from all the family shared accounts in your iTunes for Windows...
Once you're in iTunes, you see your account name on the top, on the right side of the Apple logo. There is a little pointing down arrow, click on it
on the opened up menu, click on Family Purchases
on the Family Purchases window, on the top left you see your Name with the little pointing down arrow, click on it again
on the opened up menu, select the account you want to download the music from.
That is how you do it, because I just learned about it and thought I would share the information so that others also get benefited from it. Hope, this helps...
