ITunes Freezes/Crashes On MacBook Pro When Connecting iPad

iTunes (v10.7) crashes on my new MacBook Pro Retina (OSX 10.8.2) almost all the time when I connect my iPad Retina (IOS 6.0.1). When i connect via USB, iTunes comes up but the iPad does not appear as a recognizable device. This problem started about a week ago and prior to that there was no problem connecting. What can I do to correct this problem? Is it related to iTunes 10.7? Is it related to a MacBook Pro Retina problem? Is it related to an OSX 10.8.2 problem? Is it related to an iPad Retina problem? Is it related to an IOS 6.0.1 problem?
I have tried using a different iPad-to-Mac USB cable to connect with no success.

Turns out all I had to do was reboot the Mac and the problem was cleared.

  • ITunes freezes on my macbook pro when i sync my iphone

    Hi guys --
I've been following tons of threads to get an answer - can you help?
Out of nowhere, my iPhone can't sync with iTunes - whenever I plug in my iPhone, iTunes freezes, and I get the rainbow beachball. After a bit, I get a message that my computer is set not to allow synching -- do I want to allow synching? I select yes, and then I'm told this isn't allowed. When I select override, it's still not allowed.
    Here's my specs:
    MacBook Pro (2011, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7), running OS X 10.9.4
    iTunes 11.3.1
    iPhone 5S, running iOS 7.1.2
    Here's what I've done:
    - repaired disc permissions, and restarted the computer (nothing changed.)
    - followed every suggestion here (iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) -- including installing updates to both OSs and iTunes, disabled sync (and iTunes STILL freezes), deleted every podcast I had from both my iPhone and laptop, and rebuilt my iTunes library following the instructions that they gave.
The only other thing I can think to do is to start a new user on this laptop, copy over my music (which is all backed up to an external hard drive, so no biggie - just annoying), and/or reformat my iphone or this computer. Would REALLY love not to do that. Any other suggestions or ideas?

    Hi there,
I have the same issue as you do, this has been going on for quite a while now (2 months) and I have tried everything, including creating a new user - did not work. Perhaps you might have better luck than I did.
I really don't understand how this can just start happening for no reason.
If you have any luck I would be keen to hear how you fixed the problem.
    Good luck!

  • Constant Crashing of MacBook Pro when connected to Iphone 3GS 4.3 via USB

The USB Personal Hotspot works great with 3GS and MacbookPro EXCEPT for the constant crashes where you have to reboot. This ONLY Happens while connected via USB to 3GS with Personal Hotspot.
It never happens via regular wifi connections.
Is there a bug in 4.3?

You people do not know how relieved I am that this isn't only happening to me. The thought of returning my 4-day-old 2011 macbook pro is just plain torture.

    the solution's here.

  • Can I use the "Find My iPad" app in my MacBook Pro when the iPad has a different Apple ID?

Can I use the "Find My iPad" app in my MacBook Pro when the iPan has a different Apple ID & password than the MacBook Pro?

On your Macbook you access Find My iPad via a Web Browser at http://icloud.com
This will require you to sign on using the Apple ID and password used for the iPad iCloud.

  • Why does my 27 inch LED cinema display freeze my Macbook Pro when connecting?

    Hi,
I've had a 27 inch cinema display for about 2 years now and love it.
However, a good 50-70% of the time whenever I attach my MacBook Pro, currently 15 inch late 2011, rather than waking up the MBP, it just freezes the computer.  The same thing used to happen with my 13 inch MBP.
    Any ideas why that is?
    thanks,
    TT

I finally decided to just take my MBP down to the Apple store and see what would happen if I connected it to one of their new ACDs.  At 1st, the guy at the Genius Bar told me that my MBP only supported 1280x800 as a maximum resolution.  I told him that was for my MBP screen, and not an external monitor.  Finally I convinced him to let me connect my MBP to one of their monitors.  Low and behold, looking at the Display settings pane I saw some addtional resolutions, including 2560x1600!
So, now I have confirmed that my MBP can drive an external monitor to a resolution of 2560x1600, using just the single mini displayport connection.  I just have to figure out what's wrong with my ACD.  Suspecting that my older ACD might not support this higher resolution, I did finally discover that my model only supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1600.
    Sorry for all the confusion...

  • Lion 10.7.2 Constantly Freezing Crashing on MacBook Pro

I am at my wits end! My MacBook Pro (MacBookPro2,2 2006) is constantly crashing and/or freezing. Everything was perfectly fine until I installed the 10.7.2 update. Then things started to get progressively worse. Now I can't go 15 minutes without the system freezing up or crashing. It crashes 20 times a day or more and is completely unusable at this point. I really need to get work done and don't know what else to do.
It doesn't seem to matter what applications are open. I thought at first maybe it was Safari or Mail but I've had it hang or crash with just the Finder open. Sometimes it just freezes up yet, if iTunes is playing music, the music will continue to play in the background but you can't interact with anything. Sometimes the mouse pointer will still move and sometimes it won't. Sometimes I'll get the spinning beachball of death. Other times it will just instantly restart on its own. A couple times the screen just rolled to grey then died. I never get a crash report that I can post or send to Apple.
I am very technically proficient and have done absolutely everything I can think of at this point including:
    * Resetting PRAM.
    * Repairing disk permissions and running a disk check
    * Ran TechToolPro and everything came back OK.
    * Updated all software and removed any weird kernal extensions.
    * Unhooked any attached peripherals.
    * Tried different networks or switching to wired ethernet.
    * Logged in with Shift key down so no extra software loaded.
The ONLY thing that seems to work is starting up in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key at boot. Which is what led me to think that maybe some rogue kernal extensions were to blame but I removed all but the blessed Apple extensions. Safe Mode loads only the most basic system software so is not very usable. The fact that it runs OK here makes me believe it must be a bug in Apples 10.7.2 update but who knoes what part since so much of the OS is not loaded in Safe Mode.
I've also tried running Apple Hardware Tests (AHT) but can't get it to run for the life of me. I followed another postwhere we copy the .diagnostics folder into /System/Library/CoreServices from the original software discs that came with the computer but holding down the "D" key on startup still doesn't invoke the tests. Won't run off the CD either. I get some weird circle with a slash through it. Going to take it in to the Genius Bar tomorrow and have them run the hardware tests. I'll report back after but I don't feel too sure they're going to have a good answer.
A side issue now is that, after all this, my MacBook Pro takes over half an hour to boot each time. It appears to be doing a Safe Boot no matter what even though I don't hold down the Shift key at startup. I always get the progress bar under the Apple logo and I think it is doing a fschk each time. But when it finally comes up it's not actually in Safe Boot mode. It never used to do this and I can't get it to stop. With all the crashes and now this incredibly long startup each time I'm about to throw this thing out the window.
I've read hundreds of other posts across the Internet with like experiences but no good answers. A lot of people seem to think it is an Nvidia graphics card related issue or a discrete graphics issue but my older machine doesn't have swithable graphics and it's card is ATI. But I do sometimes get strange graphic artifacts on the screen before it crashes and some Apps have lines through their interfaces so I'm wondering if the latest system update screwed up graphics drivers?
I'm posting here in the hopes that someone, anyone, can help me!!! I think Lion 10.7.2 has serious bugs and is one of the worst updates Apple has ever released.
Is anyone else having similar problems and does anyone out there have a solution?!!

FINALLY got Lion to produce a crash report during one of these disasters. Like my gut was telling me this seems graphics driver related. Here it is:

  • What can I do to make sure all my information (Notes Included) transfers to my new MacBook Pro when connecting for the first time?

I am about to connecting my Iphone to my new Macbook Pro for the first time. I just want to make sure that all my information: contacts, messages, notes, everything will still be on my phone. I just dont want to connect then find out I lost everything on my phone.
Help! I am really bad with technology...

When you first sync with a new iTunes library iTunes will delete any iTunes media from your phone and replace it with the media in the library being synced with.  iTunes media includes things like apps, music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, books, custom ringtones and photos synced to your phone from a computer.  If you are also syncing your contacts and calendars with your computer it will replace the ones on your phone with those on your computer.  If your iTunes library, contacts, calendars and iPhoto are all empty, you will end up with all of these being empty on your phone.
To preserve these you need to follow the steps in the linked article.  This will transfer purchased media from your phone to your iTunes library and transfer contacts and calendar entries to your Mac.  As discussed in the guide, it will not transfer music not purchased from the iTunes store (which can only be done using 3rd party software such as the ones discussed) or photos synced to your phone from another computer (which can be transferred to your computer using an app like PhotoSync).  These will need to done first or you will lose them, as discussed in the guide.

  • Problem waking MacBook Pro when connected to external display

I have the new 13" MacBook Pro and like to use it connected to an external VGA display (Xerox) with the MacBook Pro in closed clamshell mode. The problem I am having is that after working for a a few hours, when I put the Mac to sleep with mains power connected, usb keyboard connected and the external display connected (via mini display to VGA adapter), the Mac will sometimes refuse to wake. I have a wireless Mighty Mouse also and the Mac is set to wake with Bluetooth devices. When I click a key on the keyboard or click the mouse a few times the pulsing sleep light at the front of the Mac goes solid but nothing appears on the external display. If I open the MacBook Pro the solid light goes out but the Mac does not respond. If I close the MacBook Pro display, the solid light comes on again. I have no option but to force a restart. This is an intermittent problem. I have yet to have this happen when no external display is connected.

I have the exact same problem.
    Here's my story:
To give you some backgroud, my setup involves having the macbook on a mstand hooked up to an external monitor. I run a usb hub from my macbook, this is where my mouse transceiver is plugged in. I use am Apple wireless bluetooth keyboard (latest slim model)
I recently purchased the 13.3' inch 2.26 MBP as I gave my older 2.0 uMB to a family member. The computer is in the stock configuration with no hardware upgrades.
I have noticed weird behaviour when waking the computer from sleep when the lid is closed. When i wake the computer up (by tuning on bt keyboard), the keyboard light blinks like there is not bt connection and the computer will wake in an inactive state. The led light will be on, but when i flip the screen up....nothing. Screen is dark, keyboard pressing does not illicit any responses. I have to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button to restart the computer. Unfortunately any previous data or work is lost.
I work in IT so I completed troubleshooting and also things outlined on forums in google. Reset PRAM, reset SMC and also reinstalled OSX. Still I get the same result. Fearing I purchased a defective unit, I called Apple and they told me i could exchange the computer so I dropped by the apple store and exchanged it quite easily.
I've spent hours restoring from time machine and I am experiencing the same issue on my new laptop. I'm now assuming its not hardware but more firmware related as I had to do a bluetooth firmaware upgrade when I bought the computer when I checked for software updates.
Is anyone else having any wake issues with their new MBPs? And what should I do next? Should I exchange for a 3rd unit? Thanks for you help everyone.

  • No response from MacBook Pro when connecting Samsung Galaxy S4 to a USB port.

The PTPCamera process starts, but is only visible in the activity monitor. The phone itself reports being connected but it does not show up in Finder. I am using the USB port on the MacBook, which works with everything else. I have also tried Kies, which does not find the phone either. No problem when connecting the phone to a PC. Any known solution to this problem? I would be greatful for helpful ideas.
My MacBook Pro: OS X 10.8.4 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5 8GB. All available updates installed.

Hello HowardShachter! Yes I can see how that can come across as puzzling! I can certainly step in and review this with you! Where did you purchase the Uniden device? Have you verified that your Bluetooth settings are correct within the phone? A hard reset is typically a last resort to try and resolve the issues, but definitely is a possibility to try if the problem persists. Keep us posted! Thanks in advance!

  • ITunes freezes and doesn't respond when connecting iPhone 4

Well yesterday I had the two of the most common problems that a lot of people seem to be having with iTunes after the latest update- opening iTunes and not getting my iPhone 4 to be recognized. I solved the iTunes problem last night and iPhone is now being recognized on my computer but when I connect it to my computer iTunes automatically freezes and stops responding. When I disconnect it and restart iTunes it responds again and runs smoothly like nothing happened.
When it freezes beside "iTunes Store" it says "iPhone" and it seems like it freezes while it's trying to sync my phone. I've tried restarting my computer, leaving it connected before starting iTunes, waiting until iTunes comes up to connect it, but whatever I do iTunes just won't work with my iPhone connected. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hello cn12,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ITunes freezes for 60-120 secs when connecting iPod

This is weird. I have iTunes 7.6.1 and OS X 10.5.2.
Whenever I connect an iPod (my wife and I have three between us), iTunes freezes with the spinning beachball for anywhere from 60 to 120 seconds, sometimes longer. At times, when I try to drag a podcast or something over to an iPod, it won't "take"--it's not on the iPod in any of the menus. If I try to do a sync of all podcasts, for example, it freezes completely and even trying to force quit won't do anything.
I've deleted the plist files, but no luck. Any ideas?

It sounds like a hardware problem is messing with iTunes communicating with the iPod. I'd suggest the easy stuff first. Switch USB ports, switch USB cables, reset your iPod. If you are connecting via a USB hub try connecting directly to a USB port on the computer. If the iPod is still in warranty you can take it to the Apple Store or call Apple Care.

  • Slow wifi on MacBook Pro when connected to Thunderbolt Display

    Hello everyone,
I've had my MacBook pro (2012) for about a year now, and I bought the Thunderbold Display last christmas.
Everything has been working fine until a few days ago, when I realised that my wifi connection speed was very very low (less than 0.5 mb or even no connection) whilst my other devices like iPhone and Windows pc were doing fine on 10mb.
I tried changing the router channel options but it wouldn't work. Then I disconnected the MacBook from the TB and wifi speed went up immediately...
Consequently I'm guessing it's the TB's fault. Can anyone help me find a solution? Or if i should bring it back for repair? (btw it's slow both with lid open or closed)
    Thank you!

I am also experiencing very similar issues. For the past few weeks I have been suffering from really poor wifi performance on a Macbook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2012).
I have gone as far as purchasing a new router, changing router channels, encryption, switching back to 802.11g etc and nothing has really helped.
I downloaded a free app called NetSpot to help diagnose the problem. Today I had it open whilst plugging in my external monitor and I noticed a huge difference in signal to noise. The screenshot below shows that difference and I can re-produce it over and over again.
The external screen is plugged in via Thunderbolt. Interestingly only one of my thunderbolt ports seems to work with the screen (not sure if that is how it should be).
I can also see almost double the number of wifi networks with the screen unplugged and the internet performance is much better.
So my conclusion so far is that an external screen via thunderbolt is causing some serious performance issues. I am going to test the HDMI port later today and see if that helps the situation.

  • Why can't I sync my iTunes library from my MacBook Pro to my iPad Mini?

I have just updated my MacBook Pro with the latest iTunes, something I swore I would never do. But I had to do it in order to sync my iTunes library with my new iPad Mini. Unfortunately, after waiting 23 minutes for the software update, I STILL can't sync my music! The only songs I can see on my iPad Mini are songs I've purchased from the iTunes Store...all two of them. The remaining hundreds of songs simply don't show up. C'mon Apple, the reason I use a Mac platform is because it just always works, unlike MicroSucks. Is this what we can expect in a post-Jobs world...?

-_- this is a user to user forum.
Click on your ipad in the upper right- this takes you to your summary page.
click on music tab at the top.
    UNcheck all music and apply/sync.
When that is done, REcheck everything, and sync again. This usually works.

  • Itunes is crashing my macbook pro upon genius startup

total freeze up.. rainbow wheel.. as soon as the genius bar starts loading it freezes the whole system.. tried  to download new.. nothing fixed.. help! i need my music!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I can understand iTunes crashing. However, crashing your computer is another matter.
8 GB is not significant for a music library. Deleting the Library may be excessive.
Let's try a simple step first - go to your User Library/Preferences folder and move to the desktop com.apple.iTunes.plist. Restart iTunes (your preferences will automatically be set at the default values). Import music. If the crash stops, you had a corrupted preference file - you'll have to reenter any custom settings. If the crash occurs again, please post back.

I've had the same problem for a month and yet I still cant get iTunes to work, I've heard different solutions but none have worked for me
This may or may not work for you but its worth a try even though it didnt seem to work for me, Good Luck!
