ITunes installer won't recognize QuickTime

Hello - I've been using various version of iTunes for the last 2 years. With the upgrade to 7.0.2 though, the installer will not recognize my QuickTime install. I've followed the various sets of instructions on the FAQ, most recently just completed rebooting the the selective msconfig settings. QuickTime IS running on my machine - I've opened it up to make sure the it's installation is still valid. Any suggestions welcome.
iTunes installer steps:
1. Starting QuickTime installation...
2. Gathering QuickTime information...
3. An error has occured
3.1 Popup: The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime.
Many thanks.

Using Chrome on my 2008 MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, OS X Lion 10.7.5 [11G63]).
If using latest version of Chrome which eliminates access of the QT Plugin, then switch to Safari or download the trailers or trailer URL for direct playback in the QT X or QT 7 player.

  • ITunes Trailers Won't Recognize Quicktime

Using Chrome on my 2008 MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, OS X Lion 10.7.5 [11G63]).
Quicktime and QT Plugin are both updated but iTunes Movie Trailers won't play the trailers.  Instead I get the following image in the player window:
Secondarily, I've run the recommended "Pro Video Formats" update twice and the Mac keeps suggesting it as a necessary update, even after the update has been installed. (not sure if this problem is relevant to the primary QT problem.)  I have also restarted the Mac after both updates.
    Any suggestions?

  • Please Help - My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic

My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic 80gb. I try doing the trouble shooting steps on apple, but they still did not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to add some newer music to my old iPod for listening in the car or when travelling. Thanks a lot.

    Hello dmbnewfie,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPod classic is not being recognized in iTunes when you connect it to your computer. I know you have tried some troubleshooting on the Apple website as well, but without knowing which steps you have completed, I would suggest working through the attached iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant.

  • ITunes still won't recognize my iPhone after I've followed every step

I purchased an iPhone4 off of a friend, he had completely restored it back to its factory settings before he sold it to me.
When I connected it to my iTunes it had asked to update it, so I did to 6.1.3. Now Every time I plug it into my computer it asks me to restore it, I click restore and it says it's updating, takes 4 hours then says there was an error. I've googled this and gone through all the steps and nothing is working. My iTunes still won't recognize my iPhone.
I had tried it on my brothers iTunes and it says "pairing record missing"
I also looked that up, followed all the different steps and nothing helped.
I've tried updating my iTunes, every time I try it crashes and says it "failed to install". nothing at all is working and I'm getting very frustrated and losing my faith in apple...
If anyone has any other idea, or advice, PLEASE let me know. it would be greatly appreciate.
    Thank you
btw: I've tried the unplugging, rebooting, bluetoothing, everything I saw in the other forums and nothing helped.

why would your be frustrated and losing your faith with Apple?  Sounds like your friend sold you a jailbroken phone.

  • ITunes 8 won't recognize iPhone

I'm experiencing this issue on 2 separate computers.
When I was prompted to install iTunes 8, I downloaded and installed. During the installation, an error box popped up saying that the iPod service wouldn't be installed. Of course, once installed, the iPhone is no longer recognized by iTunes, although it's picked up fine by Windows as a "camera". Wanting to transfer my latest podcasts to my iPhone, I installed iTunes 8 it to my work computer (Win XP instead of Vista I run at home) and had the same issue.
It says that the iPod service is running, but iTunes won't recognize it. And of course, iTunes won't let me roll back to an older version. I've been searching for a resolution to this issue. I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling, and no luck. I've found other mentions of this issue, but there never seems to be a resolution for it.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem with an iPod touch 32gb. If you go into "Diagnostics" under "help" on the itunes menu bar, and run the "ipod connection test" or something like that, it'll show "failed" and have a "help" button next to it. This takes you to a web page that lists various steps in solving the problem, beginning with reinstalling iTunes 8. It then recommends several other steps including deleting all iTunes files and shutting down all windows services through "msconfig". The final step recommends wiping your drive and reinstalling Windows then reinstalling iTunes 8. I've tried all but the final step to no avail, but I'm guessing since you tried it with a fresh windows install that it may not even work. I'm hoping there is a resolution for this soon. I still have iTunes 7.7 on my laptop, so I'm considering migrating all my stuff to that until there's a fix. I know it's an iTunes 8 issue, because I synced my iPod +right before+ installing it, just fine. iTunes 8 has never recognized my iPod. Apple has left me with the choice of of re-installing Windows (and subsequently, everything else on my computer) or wiping all traces of iTunes 8 (including music libraries) and rebuilding my entire music collection from scratch, including playlists. Awesome. Just fix the stupid program?

  • Itunes installer won't run in Windows 7

I am trying to install the latest version of itunes on my new laptop and the installer won't run.  It is a samsung sereis 7 notebook running Windows 7.
I have downloaded itunes multiple times and tried running as administrator.  I do not get any error, and occasionally a progress bar will flash up on screen for a couple of seconds but then nothing happens.  Other times I don't even get the progress bar, just nothing happens when I try to open the installer.
Would appreciate any help with this problem.  Its driving me crazy not being able to add new music to my ipod!

  • Please Help - iTunes installer won't run on double-click

I am facing a reload of Win 7 x64 tonight if I don't get this fixed. When I run the installer all it does is create a temp folder and put an .msi in there. Nothing else happens. No errors or messages, no hung processes. nothing.
I've completely uninstalled itunes and every apple product. I've tried QuickTime independently and it does the same thing. The Windows installer is clean with no Apple entries. I initially got the message "itunes + QuickTime have an invalid signature" when trying to upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2 which prompted me to completely remove everything. My iPhone4 is coming Thursday so I've got to get this working!!
    thanks all.

I had this same problem. I followed the instructions on how to use MSCONFIG listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275
In my case, iTunes & Quicktime were already uninstalled, so I just skipped the step about checking "qtask" & "iTunes Helper."
I used MSCONFIG to re-boot in selective start up mode. Then, I fully shutdown Virus protection. The iTunes installer ran after doing this.

  • ITunes Suddenly Won't Recognize Music Files

I have synced my iPod with my Toshiba laptop more times than I can count. When I opened iTunes this morning, iTunes did not show any of my music/podcasts, etc. After a moment of panic, I realized that everything was still on my computer and in my iPod, but it is as if this was a brand new version of iTunes. iTunes also "sses" my iPod, but will not let me change anything. I seem to recall accepting an automatic upgrade of iTunes recently (is this what I get for not using Safari?) but I think I have used iTunes since then. What gives? Do I need to reconstruct my library in iTunes? If so, will I lose my Playlists? Did the upgrade cause this problem?
    Message was edited by: ChefDad

yes i can play them with other players. i've tried 6.0.1 still the same problem. i had cleared my library, files kept of course, and just added my music folder to the library. they were all there before. i think it won't recognize cds that i've imported using musicmatch and itunes in the past. does anyone know why? thanks

  • Upgraded to iTunes 10 - won't recognize phone

    Hi,
Hate to make another "won't recognize phone" thread, but all I've found and tried didn't work.
    1. I have a iphone 3G
    2. I haven't updated to the new operating system on the phone (didn't need any new features and wanted to avoid sluggishness). Phone works great as is.
    3. I was running older version of iTunes, just upgraded to 10 yesterday.
I started the older version of iTunes and was getting a "moblilehelperapp has crashed..." or something to that effect with phone plugged in. When unplugged it was fine.
I figured "I'll upgrade iTunes which should solve the issue". After upgrade no error, but doesn't see the phone. I've tried rebooting both, different ports. It does charge the phone, but doesn't show in iTunes.
    All help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I would take a look here regarding iTunes 10 & 3G iPhones: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11903365#11903365
    Good luck,

  • Mac & iTunes 10 won't recognize iPod

I recently updated my iTunes to the new version (10 I believe) and now my computer (OS 10.5.8, MacBook) and my iTunes won't recognize my iPod. The USB is working as it charges, but the iPod doesn't show up on the desktop or in iTunes. I've restarted the iPod and still nothing... any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi there! I'm on the same case. My ipod classic 160 GB (bought in 2007) have been working fine until I updated to MAC OS to 10.6 and the itunes 10. I read a lot of discussions here and it looks like the itunes 9 and 10 i guess, have problems with the classic ipods, specially with those bought on 2007.
There's a lot of people with the same problem.
The itunes says my ipod it's corrupted and the ipod needs to restore, also in the finder doesn't appear. It's the same within irip, senuti or xilisoft that doesn't recognize.
At this moment I try a lot of things to fix the problem, but nothing works... and the disk utility says the disk couldn't be repaired.
I need to format it, but before I need to back up my files.
I will try Floola and also I will try Disk Warrior to back up my songs. (150GB of music!)
So sad that Apple doesn't say a lot about this big problem.

  • ITunes 11 won't recognize my iPhone 4S.

I recently restored my laptop back to Windows 7 factory settings. After I re-installed iTunes, I started getting an error message when I open it. "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
Before I installed iTunes, my computer would recognize my phone and begin charging when I plugged it in. Now neither my computer or iTunes will recognize it. I've already reinstalled iTunes about 3 times, unplugged my phone and plugged it back in, restarted my computer, and every other simple solution. I don't know what to do. Help please!

I also receive this error message from Windows concerning my phone.
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

  • ITunes 8 won't recognize my ipod Classic 80GB (Spinning Beach Ball)

I recently upgraded my iMac G5 to 10.5.5 and iTunes 8. When the first time I synced my iPod Classic after the upgrade, it erased everything on my iPod. Now when I start-up iTunes it works fine, however as soon as I connect my iPod I get the spinning beach ball and iTunes freezes. Sometimes if I leave it connected long enough (at least 15 minutes), it's recognized by iTunes and iTunes asks me to restore the iPod. I have done that, but once the restore is complete iTunes still does not recognize my iPod.
In order to get out of iTunes I need to force quit it. A couple of other things to note. My iMac recognizes and mounts my iPod without any problems, as does Disk Utility. I have performed multiple resets of my iPod, repaired permissions, reset the PRAM and even tried reinstalling iTunes 8.
Apparently a similar problem happened with iTunes 7.7, but I haven't read anything regarding this problem and iTunes 8. Has this happened to anybody else? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Ali Y.,
Have you tested this issue in a different Mac OS X user account? To do so, click on the apple (top left), choose System Preferences and then open Accounts. You will probably have to click on the padlock in the lower left and enter your admin password, then click on the "+" symbol to add an account. Once created, just log out of your current account completely (option also under the apple) and then click on the test account to log into it.
This would be useful in identifying if the issue is with the iPod itself, or maybe file in your original user account that needs to be recreated.
    Hope this helps,
    Raleigh

  • Itunes/computer won't recognize my ipod - my solution

I offer this only because I had a problem, it got solved and it might help others ...
And the answer was obvious, but only after I solved it ...
My computer wouldn't recognize my ipod. Connected it, nothing happened usually. iTunes wouldn't open. Sometimes it would recognize it for a second. It would toggle between recognition and nothing.
    The answer, was simple.
My computer was old. I only had 256 ram.
    iTunes is a memory hog.
When I realized this, I had better results when I closed out every other program and eliminated some processes.
But it still didn't work the way it should.
A new computer and a gig of ram ... all good.
    Just wanted to share ...

See if any of these articles help.
Windows XP cannot detect an iPod.
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • Media Encoder suddenly won't recognize Quicktime files...

    Hi there...
I'm on a Mac, and out of the blue, Media Encoder suddenly doesn't recognize Quicktime .mov files.  It says this file format is not supported.  Which is weird, because it was supporting it just fine this morning!  Does anyone know what might be wrong or how to fix this?
    Thanks for your help!

Im having the same issue.  Were you able to resolve it?

  • Unable to Connect to itunes & it won't  recognize iPod

"ITunes could not connect to the ITunes store. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network connection is active then try again"
For the past 24 hours, I have been getting this error code. I live with a roommate and their connection is running fine. Furthermore, I reinstalled iTunes 4 times and upgraded to iTunes 10 and ran all the diagnostics that was instructed to me but I'm still being shut out. Moreover, iTunes is no longer recognizing my iPod classic.
I am using a wireless connection and my internet is working fine. It's just iTunes that won't function.
    Please help if you can.

    - You have to contact Honda for an firmware update to the car system.
    - Or maybe Apple will resolve in a subsequent iOS update.
    - Sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility.
    - Remember the car system (I do not know if it has been updated) is about as old as when the original iPod Touch was introduced.
