Itunes/iphone interaction
I would really like to be able to manage the music on my iphone differently than itunes allows me to. I have been managing which tracks go on my phone by un-checking the songs I can do without. But this means the tracks won't play in itunes either. I haven't tried managing the music by way of playlists yet, but I can already foresee a problem: If I don't create a playlist with all the tracks that are on my phone, then I have no common pool of tracks that are already on my phone and available for use in separate playlists etc. w/o transferring more music to the phone. Apple, what happened the ipod-style music management i got used to with my 3rd gen?
Since the last update the iphone's music can be managed the same as any ipod. I'm not sure what your trying to do really. You can go to the music sync settings and decide what you want to be synced and what not to do.
With the iphone I have found I just use one playlist. I have itunes set to only sync this playlist with itunes. I drag/drop and remove files from this playlist and just sync to make any changes. This is probably the easiest method I know of. This way it does not mess with your library on the computer and only effects the iphone's music.

Why does iTunes/iPhone 4S insist it can't find a song on my PC or my phone when it is on both? This is resulting in me being unable to use the ringtones I created from these songs, but I can still play the songs.If you have added the ringtone file correctly to iTunes, it will appear under iTunes 'Tones' library.
If you don't find Tones library in iTunes, go to iTunes menu EDIT/PRFERENCES under GENERAL tab, check the Tones Box under Library source to display Tones library in iTunes.
iTunes accepts only m4r file as ringtone and has to be less than 40secs. -
ITunes + iPhone 3G = no longer sees

I have a problem with my iTunes, it no longer sees my iPhone 3G.
Here's what I did:
- I uninstalled the Asus AI Load (manages the power of the USB ports when products Apple is connected).
- I deleted all the iTunes preferences (folder "iTunes" in Music).
- Depending on the Apple forums and the docs, so I put the DFU mode and I restored.
- I completely uninstalled components Apple and I have reinstalled (the last DL
iTunes).
Nothing worked!
I am in Windows Pro 7 x64, x64 with iTunes + iPhone 3G 4.1.2.
My mac, it is well recognized. By cons when I plug in Win, my iTunes stopped responding, but such moves well and I recovered photos.
If you have any tracks would be cool because I like (finally) to synchronize my phone!

ByeWell I'll give this a try, but I see no reason why this should necessarily help. My phone has been plugged into a USB port on an Iomega MiniMax external hard drive and has been instantly recognised for weeks before a couple of nights ago.
Its extremely frustrating that on a £1200 computer you only get three USB ports - absolutely pathetic considering the mini has 4. I've seen apologists for Apple saying that the keyboard gives you more, but what if you use bluetooth? And as anyone knows - try using a keyboard hub for anything more than a mouse, and misery soon results! -
Apps no longer downloading on iTunes, iPhone or iPad
I cannot update any apps on iTunes, iPhone or iPad. On iTunes, I get the error "There were problems downloading some purchased items." then there is a drop down stating that 6 apps had problems.
On both the iPhone and the iPad I get the same error and have been getting it for about a month now. The error is that some apps are not available to download now. Try again later.
Are theri people getting these errors? I have tried about everything and cannot seem to resolve this problem.I had to go to my hotmail account (on my laptop) and change my password. It's requesting that I do that every 72 days. My mail app and settings on my 4s keeps shutting down. Even with that, it was still asking for my hotmail password. I entered my new one and it does not ask me for a password any longer. I think that Outlook was asking everyone to reset their passwords after the update. Now, if I could just get my mail app or settings to work for any of my other email addresses, that would be fantastic!

Prior to the need to strip my laptop, my Itunes/Iphone backup and synch happened with ease. On the reinstall of Itunes, and the provision of my ID and password, I find that I can see a faded (greyed out) version of my apps, but I can't move them within Itunes, which I usually do to pop them in category folders. The songs and ring tones on the Iphone do not show in Itunes either. Any suggestions?
The phone functions fine by itself.Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPhone. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore it from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Here's what to do:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPhone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPhone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.

when I power on it shows go itune logo starts. Then I tried to download restore and update it shows Tunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. iphone could not be restored. Then an unknown error occuired(1604) shows.an unknown error occuired(1604). It also happened to me. What I did was to put my USB connector at the back of my PC (the main USB port) then I open my iTunes again and Viola, it solves my problem.

Itunes - iphone - failing to transfer previously deleted albums. Why?

I transfer an album to my iphone via itunes.
I disconnect my iphone from my computer properly.
I delete the album from my phone - via my phone. Why? I'm working on an album and I've realised a few tracks are not the most up to date ones.
I reconnect the iphone to my computer and try to transfer the album once again to my iphone again via itunes.
IT DOESN'T TRANSFER.
NOT UNTIL I RENAME THE ENTIRE ALBUM / ARTIST, PUT IT INTO A NEW PLAYLIST AND TRANSFER THE PLAYLIST.
ie, I have to trick itunes / iphone into thinking it is NOT the album I previously deleted from my phone.
Or, I have to "SYNCH" the whole damned thing after selecting the album in my "SYNCH" settings.
Why???? Why, once an album is deleted, do I have to go through all this rigmarole to get the thing back on my iphone?Hello Atlaz, Welcome to discussions.
Is there any other troubleshooting you have personally done other then attempting to sync an App one direction to the next? But have to download it to each location.

Having trouble with synching (iTunes/iPhone) & Security software
I use ZoneAlarm Security Suite on my PC. Ihave been using iTunes/iPhone successfully for a couple of years with this software, but after the most recent iPhone o/s upgrade I get communications errors that prohibit my iPhone from syching properly. It often comes up saying that I need to restore my iPhone.
Any suggestions on firewall settings that may be causing these issues?Find a new friend. If you don't have access to the last computer your phone synced with, you will have to force your phone into recovery mode & restore it as a new device to remove the passcode. All data on your phone will be lost:
Turn the phone off using the Sleep/Wake button, then the slide to power off. If you are unable to do that, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When your phone turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons. Then, leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, you will only be able to restore as new. -

You are correct. Syncing should transfer any purchased media, including videos, from your device to your iTunes library provided your computer is authorized for the Apple ID used to make these purchases. You mentioned that you have uninstalled iTunes before, but if you didn't follow this guide exactly, uninstalling iTunes and all of its components in the order specified, it may not have been successful so you should try again: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7.

ITunes/iPhone update and Authenticated proxy support
Itunes Iphone update fails to use username with proxy when trying to POST to http://gs.apple.com/TSS/controller
It is quite obvious that this is an Itunes bug, it is useing the proxy and will also use authentication for some portions of the process.
This happens with Iphone 3GSs and iOS 4.3.2 and Iphone 3Gs with iOS 4.2.1 iTunes 10.2.2.12, updates work fine with no proxy and normal itune functions like song buys, radio listening etc... are fine.
