ITunes is on a locked disc or you do not have access
Having a real problem with this.
Got a new PC earlier this week to replace a laptop that was stolen. It runs Windows 7 home premium. Basically the setup is this.
iTunes used to store and organise all music.
All music stored on external harddrive connected to PC via USB 2.
iTunes music also working through Squeezebox in living room and bedroom squeezebox radio. No problems at all.
Problem is, I want to listen to music on my Xbox whilst playing games. However everytime I activate media sharing, and get media center to monitor my folders I cannot start iTunes.
I get an error message as described in the subject line of this post. I got it the first time earlier this week and the only way I could get iTunes working again was to completely reinstall windows. All was fine until I set up media center this morning, and now I get the same error!
This is REALLY annoying and I wonder if anyone can advise?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like a problem with Media center or the X-Box.

I've been receiving an error message, "That the .itl file is locked, on a locked disc or you do not have write permission". Can someone tell me how to unlock the file or disc?

My MacBook was stolen, and after a find my iphone erase instruction I got the erase started message, suppose all info on that computer was vanished.
I then bought a new MacBookPro. I has a TimeMachine back up but due to battery cutoff it was blocked and the time machine could not be accessed. I could however copy to my new computer the information.
question 1 - How do I initiate on my new computer using info that I have copied already on the hard drive to make it transfer as though it was from another computer...?
question 2 - When I try to open itunes i get the message "the folder itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write accessability to the folder...
I already downloaded the new itunes but even after that the message continues to appear.... what can I do to make itunes work back with my previous library...?
RodrigoPerhaps you should ask this question in the MAC forum. I have asked the administrators to move your post to a more appropriate forum.

I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it
I've already right-clicked on the application, clicked "get info", and changed it so all people listed in the "Sharing & Permissions" section have the "read & write" privilage.
The error message is referring to your iTunes library, not your iTunes application.
You need to check and fix the permissions of the iTunes folder in your iTunes library. This is by default located in your "Music" folder.
Select the folder Music > iTunes in the Finder, right click on it or Ctrl Click and click "Get Info". At the bottom of the contextual window thatwill pop up, disclose the Sharing and Permissions brick, change your status from Read only to Read & Write. You may need to click the padlock icon to make changes. -

I have a Windows 7 Professional, 64 bits on my computer and have recently installed iTunes 11.1.3.8. but i started having this msg :"The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this folder" issues: how can i solve it?
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownneship from an account with administror privileges.

I keep getting the message"the IPhoto library is locked, on a locked disc or you do not have permission to make a change to it." Prior to downloaading Mavericks OS last week, have neever had a problem with IPhot. What can I do. All the suggestions on the program help had not worked. I cannot find "IPoto Library First Aid" (which was oneof the suggestions)
JoDriOption 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

"The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissio
"The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." Thats the error I have been getting recently. So I go on my pc after like 3 days of not using it, and all of a sudden I am getting the error in my title when I open itunes. I tried re installing- nothing. I googled this problem and tried EVERYTHING they said... making it not read only, allowing everyone to have permission... etc... Can someone please help! I am running windows 7 64bit. thank you!
On the permission thing, you say you have done this, but just to double check, the account you are using needs to have full control of the iTunes folder.

If you account does have full control of the iTunes folder, try a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library.
Navigate to your iTunes folder and choose iTunes Library.itl. -
The folder "ITunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permission
I just tried transferring all my songs from my PC to my new MacBook. I followed all the directions on the Apple website, but now when I try to open ITunes on my Mac a window pops up telling me..."The folder ITunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder." I also accidentally deleted all my music from my old computer so I don't know what to do. I think all my music is on my new computer, but I don't know how to access it.
I just went through this problem with a newly created user (should be the same for you, being a new user yourself). I had to go into the Music folder for the user and move the iTunes folder out of the Music folder onto my desktop (this already had all of my itunes music in it). You can find that folder by double clicking the "MacIntosh HD" on your desktop, then clicking the "Music" icon on the left side of the window. If you see an iTunes folder in there move it to the trash (unless you have music in there, then move it to your desktop). That would solve the problem of the locked disk issue. Now after you open itunes and agree to the terms of use make sure that the "find music" box or similar is checked. It will automatically find your music folder on your desktop. After iTunes has completed the process of uploading the music, you can trash your original itunes folder. This is exactly how I fixed this problem for myself.

I got a problem on running the iTune 64bit on Windows 7, error message says " the folder "itunes" is on a locked disk or your do not have write permission for this folder. Any one ran into this problem ?
It worked before.Open Disk Utility via Spotlight or in the Applications folder stored within the Utilities folder. Close all applications and 3rd party software and choose "Repair Disk Permissions." Reboot the computer when finished, and test to see if the issue is resolved.
