ITunes keeps asking for authorization and won't close

I have been having trouble with iTunes ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion.  iTunes will open and repeatedly ask for authorization.  I've tried resetting the authorization, using terminal to do it, deleting folders, etc.  I would like to try and uninstall iTunes, but I cannot get iTunes to close. Not even force quit will cause it to stay closed long enough to delete it and reinstall it.  Then there's the problem where it appears to have lost my library completely...which may be part of this issue or a separate issue.  Considering it started at the same time, I'm guessing it's just another facet of the issue.  I'd love to just reinstall iTunes, but I can't get it to not open and/or close.  I am about ready to throw the MacBook in the garbage, because this is the sort of problems I expect with Windows, not Apple.  Any ideas would be appreciated to save my laptop and sanity.

here is the fix..it worked for me

New hard drive installed in Mac.  iTunes keeps asking to authorize a very old email address which is not associated with my iPhone and I cannot sync iTunes to my iPhone.

It is referring to purchases made using an Apple ID that was set with that email as the Apple ID. Did you simply create a new Apple ID when the old email address was no longer being used? If so, then that old Apple ID is still tied (and will always be tied) to the purchases made with it, and you will have to sign into iTunes with that Apple ID in order to authorize the computer to it.
If you don't remember the password for it, you can go to Manage your Apple ID and click on Reset password. If you don't remember the answers to your Security Questions, you can contact Apple Support to get them reset:

The credit card security code is a unique three or four digit number printed on the front (American Express) or back (Visa/MasterCard) of your card.

  • What can I do, iPad disabled/lockout and iTunes keeps asking for password, I cannot restore...iTunes grays out backup and restore but my iPad and iPod shows on Apple etc..

What can I do, iPad disabled/lockout and iTunes keeps asking for password, I cannot restore...iTunes grays out backup and restore but my iPad and iPod shows on Apple etc..???

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer, leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • Why does iTunes keep asking for my password when I want to listen to my music on my iPhone?

When I want to listen to music on my iPhone, iTunes keeps asking for my password.  I am not purchasing anything.  It started today.  Why is that?

I've been having the same problem on my iPad and iPhone. I talked to Apple customer service this morning. They had me do the following on both devices in the Settings:
    * Sign out of iTunes & App Store
    * Sign out of FaceTime
    * Sign out of Game Center
    * Delete iCloud account
They also had me restore my iPad due to some glitchy behavior in the Music app.
Things seemed to me fixed for a few hours until I went into the iTunes Store app on my iPad and added a movie to my Wish List. When I went back to the Music app, the dreaded "Sign In to iTunes Store" popup started showing up again on both devices. Suspicious!
So, I cleared out my Wish List in both the iTunes Store and App Store. I've been poking at the Music app on both my iPhone and iPad since then I haven't seen that popup once since then. I'm not going to declare victory yet since it's only been an hour or two, but I thought that this was worth mentioning.

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

Though it's unlikely to be wrong if things were set up properly in the first place, as a check go to Mail Preferences>Accounts and check that the server setting for IMAP (incoming) is imap.mail.me.com (not just mail.me.com).
Your next step either way would be to go to System Preferences>iCloud and sign out, then sign back in again. (You can ignore warnings about data disappearing - your calendars etc. will disappear when you sign out but reappear when you sign back in).

  • Keeps Asking For Authorization...

Here's the gist of the problem: I bought a song, but iTunes keeps asking me to authorize my computer and then it says it's already been authorized. It won't let me play the song.
    Behind the problem:
I suppose I did a stupid thing. I started downloading the iTunes update, and then went and bought a song. The song downloaded and showed up in my library, where I could see the album as it was finishing up the download. Then the iTunes update finished, and the computer was restarted. When iTunes opened back up, the song I just bought was gone. I searched my computer and found the file, then added it to iTunes. Now when I try to play it, it has my re-enter my password, then it says the computer is already authorized. I can't play it! I can hear the song in Quicktime, but not in iTunes.
The song also is missing all its information (album name, song name, artist, etc.) but it was inside a folder that had the same name as the song. I tried right clicking on the song and selecting "Get Track Names" to see what would happen, and it says: iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes. To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes."
Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks so much in advance!

I also just played the song all the way through on Quicktime and it's messed up in the end, about 3 minutes in. It sounds like a song on a CD that's scratched.

  • Itunes keeps asking to authorize one song from an album purchased

I've seen that many people have posted something similar and I  have tried the various fixes like removing the /users/shared/sc info folder (which didnt exist on my imac) and also deauthorizing and reauthorizing the mac, reload etc etc. But one song in the Coldplay album I purchased doesnt play. The rest are fine. It keeps asking to authorise to play the song when the MAC is already authorised. Anyone have any ideas how I address this? I am sure if Itunes allow me re-dowload this it will be ok but how do you contact them? I should have just downloaded from Amazon, itunes does not make life easy.

Thanks for your help, appreciated, but I have no proxy, virus protection or such like. Its definitely a song. Its fully downloaded the Coldplay album and the song 'Paradise' just will not play without authorization and when I authorize it says my Mac is already authorized. I then go to play the song and it asks for authorization again. All other songs play without any trouble. The funny thing is I do an automatic download to my IPhone and the song 'Paradise' plays ok on the phone!! Its the best song the album as well!
Does anyone know how to go about getting ITunes to allow me to download just that song again?
Should stick to buying CD and then ripping the songs.

  • ITunes keeps asking for a disk while I am trying to uninstall

I am trying to uninstall iTunes so that I can reinstall it.  However, it keeps asking for a disk.  Also I have tried to use Windows Cleanup Utility 7.2, but get an error when I attempt to run it.  I think I may have started uninstalling the components in the wrong order.  Any help is appreciated.  I am using Windows 8.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
If you cannot get a component to uninstall properly move on to the next one, then delete the named folder. The reinstall should be successful.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Itune keep asking to authorize my pc

i having problem sync my app where my itune keep asking to to authorize my PC which i did.

Click on STORE at the top deautorize your computer and reauthorise it with your apple id, that should solve the problem.
Other than that it could be you have purchases from another apple id on your phone that you havent authorised on your pc.
